  • @Geordo1960

    I found the product to be excellent! You do have to make sure the surface is completely dry like you said, and to keep it dry while curing afterwards. Unfortunately I had to reapply in one area as an unexpected rain came but the effect of the rain was minimal. Helps to tape off paint, it was visible on my dark paint where I went a little over. I have a whole lot of black plastic trim on my SUV and this has been the best an longest lasting trim coating I have ever used. Mine has lasted longer then claimed, however I do use a proper automobile soap and only air dry my vehicles. Your trim that had “MDX” on it will look even better with a 2nd coat.

    Adam's trim coating wipe is $10 for one wipe; Cerakote is $30 for 10 wipes...yeah I know which one I'm getting.

    • @Bigheadedwon
      @Bigheadedwon 4 года назад

      But Cerakote sells them in a single car kit for that $30. I've spoken to like 5 people who've used this and they told me used 7-10 depending on the size of the car. Makes sense since they're sold as a 1 vehicle kit in the 10 pack. Adams is saying 1 should do an entire vehicle. While I don't know how true that is, even if you needed 2, the 2 pack's only $17. And Adams is pretty much always running a 15-20% sale. Now I have no which lasts longer or looks better, but in the end, Adams will be the cheaper solution here. I just added 2 2 packs on Adam's, with the discount it would be 35 shipped, and according to them it should be enough to do 4 cars trims and the headlights. If that's accurate that's a pretty damn good deal.
      Now we need Brian to do a heads up torture test so we know which is better. *hint hint*

      Adams and tri nova wash off after three weeks.
      This actually lasts 5-6 weeks +
      The ONLY problem was the amount of wipes. My car is trim heavy and the amount wasn't enough.
      I needed 15 wipes ideally......

    WARNING: I had some major issues. Plastics that were right next to each other on a brand new vehicle (and looked to be the same) One looked black and the other was the milky streaky finish. I contacted Cerakote and they claimed it was "moisture during application" which it wasn't. That said, it works great on the OLD TYPE Pebbled plastics, but test a small area before doing you do the whole vehicle FOR SURE. Their response: "Cerakote Trim Coat is a permanent finish, there is not a way to remove the fully cured Trim Coat from the surface." aka you're stuck with a streaky milky crapy looking finish on your plastic. I liked the results where it worked, but where it didn't is a nightmare. I guess it will just have to wear off.

      Funny I used this on outboard motor trim and it dried very spotty....made it look like total shit! I received the exact response from them. Have still yet to find something to take this stuff off how is yours wearing off so far?

    • @TheAverageJoeX
      @TheAverageJoeX 5 лет назад

      I didn't get white streaks, but especially on smoother plastic trim, the product dries in streaks/high spots. It's like the wipes are too wet, so it's impossible to get it to do an even streak free coat on smoother plastic trim. Maybe if it were more like a traditional ceramic coating where you can apply it but then shortly wipe it to even it out and remove high spots, it would be better.
      Brian, how is your testing on this product going? I think I'll stick to Lithium Trim Serum.

    I used this product on all of the outside Black plastic trim on my 2008 Range Rover Sport. Everything was prepped asper instructions. I applied it to the non textured (smooth) Black plastic D Pillars and 80% of that application did self level and dry smooth and glossy. The other 20% of the application on the D Pillars dried with very noticeable streaking which can be felt as well as seen.

      If your plastic were new underneath, use the pink nail polisher remover which is non acetone and scrub of with magic eraser.
      If trim is old and beat up, sand it off with a maroon scotch pad for auto body. Then wet sand and polish with plain water and dish soap lightly with the used scotch pad or 1500-2k grit sandpaper.

    The gloss finish that CeraKote leaves is a deal breaker for me, I think it looks like you've painted the plastic surfaces gloss black. I saw another review of this Cerakote and over time (5 months) it was showing cracking throughout, cracks like you'd see in a antique oil painting and as durable as the Cerakote is and resistant to cleaning chemicals it would be a PITA to remove.
    Here's the vid of the other comparison test: ruclips.net/video/1C5fYWMpPeM/видео.html go to 3:50 to see the cracking, this was after a 5 month test to outdoor weather in Florida, sun & rain.
