I don't think the Cerakote got a fair shake. That whole side was buffed when the instructions did not say to buff. I wonder how much better it would have looked if left to cure the way the manufacturer intended? I wonder how much product got removed by the towel?

It has only been 6 weeks and 2 washes though, but if it won't last, I already have the right clear now, so I'll just buff it again and apply the new clear coat.

Great video Josh. The Wipe Nu is the only one of these that I have experience with and I found that the instructions aren’t very good. While it’s still wet, it’s absolutely fine to overlap the Wipe Nu despite their instructions. The smoother the plastic, the more the Wipe Nu will streak so i buff it smooth. After reading comments I had great expectations of at least a 90% restoration on our 2005 headlight. I carefully followed the video's procedures.
Within a few minutes the cloudiness resurfaced. You can barely see the components under the headlight covers. It actually accentuated all the tiny cracks. Under daylight the surface is all fracked making the headlights even worse before using the product! I had applied the step 3 coating in the same speed and manner as the video instructed yet there are noticeable streaks.
Do you recommend buying another kit and start over?

    • @anguslean4058
      @anguslean4058 Год назад +1

You need to sand the light down completely
      Finish sanding with 800 grit
      Then when finished sanding
Use the 800 grit and do horizontal strokes on the whole headlight
But a can of 2k clear coat ( glamour )
      And spray it with that
Takes 24 hrs to set up
Don’t wash the headlight for a month
You want it to gas out
Any drips or orange peel can be sanded out later
This method lasts the longest ( years ) and looks the best.

@@imjoshv Try mother's back to black trim Cleaner, not restorer. Comes with a black bristle brush. It's a clear gel like substance, you clean the trim with. Gets rid of those pesky water drip spots and stains and anything else that stains the trim. Brings life back to the trim. You can use a non marring scrub pad instead of the brush if you want to, I find the gel falls off the brush and can make a mess or apply the gel with the scrub pad and agitate the gel on the trim with the brush. Wipe clean with microfiber, then apply any trim restorer you prefer. I did this concept recently on my Honda cr-v and then sold the SUV to carvana. It came out like brand new. I used wipe nu as my trim restorer. Hope you find this informative. Keep up the good videos.

I've never used the Cerakot before so I won't comment about it. However, I've used Wipe-New for 14 years on my 2017 Chevrolet Avalanche's exterior and interior plastic trim. And all of the vehicles trim looks amazing. The exterior trim has very little fade or UV damage, and has a very nice semi-gloss finish. The interior trim looks as good as new. My vehicle is not garage kept and considering these hot Georgia summers and sun, that is amazing. I definitely recommend t o anyone who asks me how I keep my trim looking so good. It lasts about 18 -24 months on exterior trim and top of interior dashboard; and for 3 - 4 years on on rest of interior trim. I won't even try anything else.

I agree with some of these other guys , he seems to like listening to himself and leaning on his own understanding like he's trying too hard to sell snake oil.

WTF??? Why didn't you follow the actual instructions for the Wipe New???
It's not an accurate comparison between the two products because you didn't follow the instructions, Jeez😢
If you wanted to see if there was a difference between following the instructions or doing it your way, you could have done it in a side-by-side comparison..

As you read the instruction saying to leave on for an hour, you then proceed to wipe it off immediately. Duh.

NOT a true apples to apples comparison. What you do to one side you MUST do to the other...and you didn't do that.

Two quick observations, first you wiped off the Cerakot which reduced the amount and the time to penetrate into the plastic and second none of these products contain the most important thing which is a UV protectant. I have used the Cerakot on my 2019 mustang it's been holding up for two months 5 washes and 5 rain storms my only negative comment is I would like more gloss.

Absolutely don't use Cerakote products on your trim if the car is evenly remotely new. They won't tell you this, which is appalling, but it'll wreck trim on a new car. The off gassing will push the coating away from the surface and can't be fixed. There should be a class action lawsuit against the company, no questions asked.

Well... I just treated ALL exterior plastic trim on my brand new Ford Maverick to eliminate fading from sun in Mexico where it probably sat a few months awaiting parts before completion of build. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake trying to treat it myself!
