You made me break my rule, man. I've been a strict DeWalt cordless tool guy for years, but that Ryobi is exactly what I've been wanting to dry the grill and other tight spots on the Mustang. Picked one up today.
I went from using blower to now a combination of blower and towel. I also dont use drying aid as it kills my towels. If i apply topper it is with a separate towel. If you use drying aid on towels, leave towels in bucket with microfiber cleaner of choice overnight, then wash after.
I’ve been using the same drying towels for years before I rotate them out for house rags. I’ve had my business for nearly 7 years and I sometimes don’t even wash my towels for a week or two until it’s a large load for the laundromat. Maybe it’s the products I use, which aren’t the bottom line end, but I don’t really have a problem with product clogging my towels. SOME of my microfibers do get a film which I rotate out immediately. I also use more microfiber wash then directed, I put it in pre wash and use extra rinse cycle on warm. Air dry. I do clean my buffing pads immediately though.
I use the water demon drying towel/chamois. Its synthetic but its hell at drying. I still have some instant detailer that take out water spots and leave a shine out this world.
I recommend 'The Rag Company Gauntlet 20x30'. Two of those towels will dry a car (streak-free) in about 4 minutes. (The smaller size is good for windows. They have a larger size too but I think the 20x30 would air-dry faster and be easier to launder).
Josh... You da Man! - Thx. Just a Dad in the driveway. My whole Driveway Dad process is based off your YT videos. Keep 'em coming. ps. Also teaching the kids as they are both driving now.
I'm surprised you haven't tested the Ryobi compact workshop blower, the thing has become my favorite blower for drying my wheels and tires as well as any crevice. It's nice and compact and the blower attachment is made out of rubber. Highly recommended.
I've stopped using SiO2 sprays as drying aids as it has killed a couple of towels. Now I just use a simple quick detailer with no lasting protection. I will use a mini blower (Ryobi PCL016) on my wheels, tyres, mirrors , grilles and panels gaps and then dry the rest with a towel.
another tip is use superior products formula 4 spray wax before you rinse off the soap from your contact wash and when you rinse off it beads and falls right off, 1:10 dilution and a gallon is less than 30$ at orielys
I like using towels with drying aids I used to use ceramic sprays but now I just use rinseless wash that way I get slickness without clogging my towels
Josh, just ran across your channel and loving it so far. Thank you. For us nonprofessionals, how about just using a hairdryer for the smaller areas please? Thank you again.
In my opinion, the only time you should be using a blower off the bulk of a car (forcing it out of cracks crevices is fine when needed) is if you have a DI or RO water system to do the final rinse, otherwise you are drying a small amount of minerals into the paint/coating which can clog the coating and dull the finish over time. I'm also a big fan of using rinseless washes as a drying aid (even if you do a soap wash). It provides plenty of lubrication and will not clog up your drying towels (as long as you're using something without protection like ONR, DIY Detail, P&S Absolute, etc). It has the added benefit of preventing water spots that form if you're working in direct sunlight on a hot day and the water is drying on the surface before you can get to it.
Josh, nice video. Thanks. I gather this Ryobi is really new. Not a single retailer in my area has it available with the battery and charger. I can't even find it on-line.
Hey Josh I’m new to all this. I’m a DIY and learning from your videos. Do you have a video of washing a car at home without filter water to get no water spots. Thanks
I use my Echo PB9010T backpack blower. I took the middle tube off to shorten it up. 1110 cfm @ 220mph at the nozzle. Even uncoated vehicles dry fast with this puppy. Easier than swinging my Ego battery blower. I thought about trying a corded Worx 800 cfm handheld just for shts and giggles. Might order one.
Great video Josh. I recently bought the 1500 drying towel from The Rag Company and it states in the description that they don't recommend the use of drying aids with the towel.
I have that towel saved in my shopping cart right now too and also read the fine print of no drying aids. I do believe ive killed a few liquid8rs and gauntlets with drying aids unfortunately so the new 1500 I'll treat it right, no drying aids. A straight rinseless without si02 if i feel i need a spray 😅
you should test Ivan DIY theory of adding 1oz of rinseless wash to foam cannon with PH neutral soap and see if doesn't leave water spots in sunny conditions?
saw your previous video about towels and you seemed to like the rapid Dry towel 2.0. Do you still feel that way about it? About to purchase a towel and that one seems to be a good way to go but would like to hear from you again about it.
Great methods buy a few things to think about. Don't use the same towel on 2 different cars. Just in case you picked something up on one, you don't risk another car. The small 8x8 Amphibian or 12x12 Gauntlet work great for rins. Last, some car wash soaps, like DIY rinseless clean so good that the drying towels literally grab the surface. You almost need a drying aid to help the towel move.

Correct, filtered air on a leaf blower means nothing because as soon as the "filtered" air leaves the tip it then becomes one with the surrounding air and becomes unfiltered...

ruclips.net/user/shortsy-owKT6zblM How would you argue with him? I even asked question, if the car is ceramic coated, will it leave water minerals if you blow air? his answer is yes! Now I'm confused...
Unless you're using distilled or deionized water, using a blower will leave minerals on the car because not all of the water gets blown off the car, some of it evaporates and leaves behind the minerals. The best way to dry your car is with a drying microfiber towel, only use the blower to get water out of the cracks and crevices. If you insist on using a blower to dry the car, and don't have access to distilled or deionized water, then use a rinse less wash solution to rinse your car. This will encapsulate the minerals and even though they look like water spots, they are polymer spots and should wipe away easily with a microfiber cloth.
@@DizConnected even ceramic coated paint? Does ceramic/graphene make the paint smoother thus make the water slide...in your argument why do we use ceramic coating/graphene arr those mafketing gimmick? They say it help prevents water spots?
@@TheJeof1000 I would say you are safer with a Ceramic coated vehicle, but you will still have water evaporating when using a blower. I still would recommend the blower for the cracks and crevices but use a drying towel and/or rinse less wash. There is no doubt that ceramic coatings leave a smooth, hydrophobic surface that makes all drying methods easier.

I have that Ryobi blower, and while it is a cool tool, I use the entire battery drying 1/2 of my car
I still get looks from my neighbors when i use my blower to dry my car off after washing it.
Haha yeah people still come up to me and say hey that’s a great idea all the time
He said TDS. Has a few meanings some people have it really bad

How would you argue with him?
Easy way…..go drive 100 mph and use that to dry it 🤣
