Been needing to see a video like this. Was tired of using "trim restoring" products only to be annoyed by how long it doesn't last, and whenever it rained the product would smear and leave an ugly oil trail. Thank you sir as a fellow Tennessean.
I've already known about this product, but haven't used it yet. You are the first I've seen not tape around all. And the first to wipe immediately, with no wait. I hope anyone who watches this understands......... finding that out made this video so amazing! Even if you already are aware, but about to try the product. Thanks man.
Yes well the guy in the video did it wrong you should wait at least 2 minutes before wiping it because you need to give it time to impregnate itself into the plastic pores. I know you can't spray alcohol over it afterwards notice how we didn't show you the rag after he was done wiping it with alcohol after you applied the product. It's like the blind leading the blind when I see videos like this
I bought the big bottle of Solution Finish Black Trim Restorer for about $50 or so. You really need very little so I still have lots, it will last me 20 years for sure. I'll do it twice a year. I cleaned the rubber, not nearly as well as in the video, but still pretty good. Dabbed a bit of it onto a terri-cotton cloth in it, and rubbed it along the rubber once. It works pretty much instantly and then buffed it off with a dry cloth. It looks fabulous. You can do a whole car with about five dabs. Its super easy to apply and to clean up. It wipes off metal with no problems. I didn't really need to do it again but I did anyway because I have so much of it. I store the car during the winter so I don't know how it would handle a Toronto winter. It's worth it if your car is.
So far that’s the best results on trim restore I’ve seen. Most products make the plastic shinny but the fade it still there. The back to black products continue to bleed into the paint near by when doing polishing on white paints is annoying. I’m gonna try this product for sure.
I do agree. Best restorer out there. A true restorer. My wifes cousins xterra trim was severely aged (it was a light gray in color) and her husband struggled with a restorer. Question I need to ask...How long does it last? All finishes make black trim look better-great at first application but how is it long term? Weeks/ Months? or longer? Also living in a hot dry climate how does it stand up to rain, snow & such? I like dyes much better than dressings, one coating I don't like which a lot of people do like is CeraKote but it leaves a gloss finish like the trim has been painted gloss black. Looks like Luke isn't reading comments. So, as someone who has used this product: it lasts pretty well for a good 6 months outside in Midwest weather. You can let it cure for 5 hours and retreat if the black is not dark enough and even enough. The next application in 6 or so months will require even less effort and will not take more than one coating. Recently, the company has released a topper for SF (wait untill it cures) called "Over the Top Plastic Sealer." In this country, Rag Company has an exclusive contact for the Sealer. It's supposed to add 3 months to the life expectancy, and you can reapply SF over the Sealer when the trim finally fades. You can top off more than once and so extend the time before reapplying SF. Note: I haven't used the Sealer yet. It's on order. PS: I don't know how anyone would have rain removing this, unless you did a really terrible job preparing the plastic. SF says to use 70% alcohol or higher. This targets silicone, which has often been applied. It's important to use a strong enough solution.
Would it then be good to put some trim protectant on top of the Solution finish? Just wondering how to make it last as long as possible, or maybe when (if needed) to do the process over. Thanks for a good video.
Maybe a combination treatment of the Solution finish and ceratrim would be ideal. The solution finish gets the black back and the ceratrim bolsters it with the addition of the ceramic protection making it last for ages. That would be a great video right there..

If you are secretly in love with Wilson, why don't you go and make your own video with him instead ? How about them apples ?
@Dane Why criticize at all ? I don't get why you need to be antagonistic. What did I ask that made your hackles stand up ? You need to lighten up and try and understand my position here before blabbing your mouth ok ?

Love your videos, hope you’ll look at Rustoleum wipe new as well. I started using and still use solution finish on occasion from Luke’s video on it in the past. What I found , it fails over a relatively short period reverting to the original full oxide finish hence I had to continue to use. ( Admittedly that might be because I had to wash or rinse my car off daily as I drive it professionally) Rustolrum wipe new actually dissolves the oxide surface and restores it. On my BMW X3 I used it once and never again! I sold it about year later and never touched it besides washes.
Idk if they changed the formula, but wipe new absolutely destroyed my black trim. The first time we used it it worked perfect, we bought more a couple weeks ago and now my trim looks like ashy garbage
@@mikki3274 I still use solution finish on some jobs but have moved on to Cerakote for more high end jobs. Many of my ceramic jobs have plastic that can restored with its application. Any product or best way to kind of mask, hide or make not so visible a couple of small light scratches on new matte black plastic car trim? The scratches are on the inside side of my right side mirror. The scratches appear as small white lines when in sunlight. Can't see then much when in shade. The car has only 800 miles and I have to look at the scratches every time I look out the side mirror. Painful on a brand new car. If they were somewhere else it wouldn't be as annoying. Not sure how it happened. I wash the car by hand. I was hoping it was just dirt but it's not. Doesn't wipe off. I didn't find any rocks or glass stuck in my sponges or wash mitt but buying new ones anyways. Not worth replacing the mirror. Just want to make it less noticeable. Would any of the typical back to black products help on new black matte trim or just make it worse?
Do you see any major drawbacks of not wiping off the excess right away and moving around the whole vehicle and then coming back around and wiping excess?

@Dane You don't have a clue what I was talking about, do you.
Firstly, I'm not the one with a detailing channel. I, like you, come in search of appropriate content like everybody else with a hope to learn something.
You obviously don't have an understanding of the wider application of products except to try and belittle me for making a reasonable request that a lot of other people agree with.
What do you recommend for the black rubber around the windows that you said this product wouldn’t work for
Would you please write specifically what 'dye' you are using in the small bottle.
Btw first channel I've subscribed to. You are awesome. Thank you
What the heck happened to the Extra Tough APC you have been raving about ????????
I've got the Solution Finish and I like it, but someone told me flood penetrol will do just the same thing. Is this true?
Calculator watch? Wow I haven't seen one of those since the 80's! Nice video though. thanks.
Video recommendation: Can silicon spray like Permatex Silicon Lubricant be used in rubber in the door jamb, hatch and under the hood to protect them from being brittle?
In addition, can it serve as trim restorer? TIA! ☺️
No it has a petroleum dissolent in it and it will only make it dry rot or become soft and break down the rubber, search the internet for rubber rejuvenator and you will see products that are mainly used for
I'm hoping to do bumper trim and side trim on my car. Would 1oz be enough?
How long does this last looking like this in Florida sun and if car is being washed though????
Great advise! What product can I use to protect and enhance the exhaust cover and winglets on my Ducati Panigale V4? Thanks
Have you tried the Adams black trim restoration
what solution have you used on your eyebrows?
Love your videos, hope you’ll look at Rustoleum wipe new as well.
I started using and still use solution finish on occasion from Luke’s video on it in the past. What I found , it fails over a relatively short period reverting to the original full oxide finish hence I had to continue to use. ( Admittedly that might be because I had to wash or rinse my car off daily as I drive it professionally) Rustolrum wipe new actually dissolves the oxide surface and restores it. On my BMW X3 I used it once and never again! I sold it about year later and never touched it besides washes.
That sounds great. Thanks for sharing.
I can’t get the Rustoleum product shipped to Maui and no one stocked it here, it’s been almost 2 years now, just shortly after that post. Saying that it did wonders on my old BMW X3.
Good video. The 1 million dollar question? You applied this on 07/19 how is it holding so far? after car washes, sun, dust, etc.. is it still holding?
No Answer, is an Answer.
@@mk8530 not really, it's called having a life. The product works better than almost everything. I'd recommend also ceramic coating after use just to add another layer of protection but the sun will always fade it if left outside all the time
If you do it in sections and overlap a section you’ve already done, can you tell? Does it cause high and low spots?
Any product such as this one that would work with interior plastic black trim pieces? Thanks!
Thank you for this tip. Seems fairly easy to do. I appreciate it!
Purchasing from your link, thanks! Follow up? How long does this last?
Awesome video man! Can you do a ceramic coat over this product?
Could this also be used to treat faded exposed weather stripping?
You can actually put a trim coating on top of solution finish once it’s fully dry.
Wow. Do you really have on a late '70s calculator watch ??? Brings back memories.......
What? Lol
Either smooth or textured works for me
so much waffle, just get on with it for christ sakes
Yeah Definitely
Yeap
Right!
Had to hit 10 min for RUclips reasons.
I thought it was very educational. People are way too impatient lol
I have use black leather dye for years since cheap plastic bumpers and trim, try it out
Can this use for door handle ?
Can you use cerakote on top of this??
good tips nice finish on trim
Hi you didn’t show your cloth after wiping it over to see if it’s collected any solution on the solution
Why isn’t your link to this product available? It says it out of stock.
I personally love black trim.
Is this still the best option
Nice, good presentation - factual to the point!
couldn't figure out product link?

Any suggestions for a Avalanche that has gray plastic cladding?
I used back to black. Does that need to be removed somehow before using this
Do you see any major drawbacks of not wiping off the excess right away and moving around the whole vehicle and then coming back around and wiping excess?
WHAT'S THE LONGEVITY?
That intro threw me for a loop. I drive the same CRV and have a big scrape on the panel you intro with that I'll be working on/restoring tomorrow.
