Penetrol! Absolutely beautiful restoration of my 32 year old bumper to its full glory! Use a cloth to avoid streaking and wear a mask to avoid vapors. I put on three coats after each dried completely over a number of days. Really looks great after just one coat but I found three coats wearing rubber gloves made my bumpers look brand new! Wait a couple of days between coatings!
I've used Sonax "Xtreme Kunstoff Gel" - "Xtreme Plastic Restorer Gel". It pretty much instantly improves faded/oxidised trim and plastics. Sonax also make a rubber restorer which is great for putting on rubber seals in the car, can greatly reduce wind noise if the seals are getting a bit tired.
Another shout for Cherry Blossom shoe/boot polish. Works a treat. I only hear of people saying avoid using heat on plastics as it weakens it and turns it brittle and makes it more prone to cracking.
Have used it myself and it's great stuff. I think thin applications work well otherwise it can look a bit lacquer-like. Used in on a black roof box, little bits of door trim. AND also used it on a very faded gloss-painted front for which had turned very chalky. Probably worked best on old dry pain to give it a gloss look back.
Errm not sure I should admit this but I've uses kiwi liquid shoe polish it lasts about 6 months and two are just about enough to do a vivaro with two coats. Emptied them out into a takeaway tub and used a sash bruah to get into the nooks and crannies.
Heat gun needs to be REALLY close and it happens quick, quick enough to go from Nothing to melted - I hover my plastics I’ve the gas burners, 2/3 quick passes and they’re back to new 🤟🏻
Issue of black plastics isnt getting it black but rather keeping it black for longer than 2 years so far best solution I have seen on youtube was using ceramic coating as it not only brings back the colour but sort of prilotects it for some time still re applications is nedded thou
Again, as previous comments - Black Kiwi Liquid shoe polish from Pound Shop £1 a bottle & it goes a long way, last good 6 months. Gives an excellent long lasting finish.
I recently purchased an old van and the bumpers etc. have faded significantly. They would certainly benefit from something like this. However I am also of the opinion you can't polish a turd. Perhaps pertena rather than mutton dressed as lamb would be better. Its an 09 plate and its been named the Silver Fox. Grey and old but still plenty in the tank!

😲 just seen the price 😲
How long does it last, weeks or months?
@@Hellofa6ird$14….
Coconut oil from Lidl's....couple of quid and works a treat. Plastics, window rubbers and faded paint.

Owatrol products have been a favorite in the marine world for a long time. Gelcoat restorer, deck oil, paint additive etc..

Hello, thanks for your tip. I tried WD40 with a micro fibre towel and it also worked out nice...

Hey Tim, it's not a permanent solution, but mine lasted a couple years before it looked faded again.
That van will be lovely to it's new owner!!
Definitely doing a better job than the last stuff I used but like you say it’s probably worth a top up every now and then. 👍
But what I am actually wondering about is, if these oils are doing anything to the plastics or are they just sitting very shiny on top of them?

Thank you! I am refurbing my truck
Can't wait to try this when she gets out of the auto body paint shop!
Cherry blossom liquid Black shoe polish works wonders. 2 coats and lasts for a couple of years. Keep the vids coming. Great work
What product are you using?
Just ordered a tin, thanks.
Boiled Linseed oil and thinner 60/40 mix apply with a sponge applicator and microfiber cloth.

Yeah, the blow torch worked great on the other text but didn’t trust it near the paintwork! 😬
@@TheRestorationCouple that’s why I pop the trims off, house smells lush after mind, along with cooking engine parts on the oven🤣👌🏻
Great looking finish, would be interested to see the durability on it though. I have used Carpro PERL on the cars for a while with good results 👍
I used vaseline on plastic garden chairs and they came up a treat. Not sure of the chemistry, but they looked good for about 12 months.
The same company do a great rusty metal treatment that can also be added to paint to act as a rust inhibitor and let's the paint flow better!
Stunning transformation. What about doing the metal van wheels?
Some work to do on them but I have some gun caps to go on. 👌

I wonder if you could use this on tyres?
Looks impressive on the plastic I have to say.👍
Hi what did you use with the oil? Cloth or paper
Auto Glym bumper and trim gel is amazing stuff, tip from a car dealer I know. Tried it on my van, amazing results. Clear gel, not coloured.
That stuff is really good but only lasts a month. The oils last over a year.
@@DustyCR Hi Dusty. Yep, well I found that out too. Just not updated the thread. Obviously made for car dealers, not long term
Did it last long?
How long do you have to watch it before he tells you what the hell it is
Do u mention what oil it actually is?
I never heard him say what oil it was either
Teak oil is cheap and works very well. Lasts a couple of months
Ive used linseed oil works for around 3 to 6 months
What is the product called? Is it a secret?
OWATROL Polytrol Colour-Renovator Cleaner (0.5 L)
Couldn't see beyond those van wheels Phil!!!
303 aerospace, looks great and has UV protectants in it

Yes heard lots use that for black trim but no good for anything else like coloured plastics.
Can we have a tour of your camper van 🤙😀😀

Can someone tell me what this is please, cost and where to get it from please x
I've got a t-shirt like that.
Try tyre wall black. Works on all plastics.
Carpro DLUX is what is needed there.
I use a mix of boiled linseed oil and white spirit.
Interesting stuff
Apply with sponge…..so much faster 👍👍😎😎
Oooh first to comment. Great video as always, thank you!
Its been two years now, how is it now, would be great to do an update video
Boiled linseed oil
After a year, still holding up?
Any updates
It's like he's trying to hide it from figuring out what it is?
WD40 works well👍🏻 cheap as well
Solution Finish.
Peanut butter is supposed to work too! So I guess that fits with the notion that oils help...
Should have been restoring a toy car thumbnail 🙂
Think you should have been a little more patient with the heat gun
Why would you wear sunglasses to do a job like this? No wonder he missed so many bits 🤔
blow torch works for me
Bring the "natural" into the plastics. Now that is funny.
Yep, wrong choice of word! 😬
Well plastic is made from oil or gas, which is the remains of aquatic sea creatures and plants from millions of years ago, so sort of natural 😄

How's it looking a couple of years on now???
paint those nasty wheels
Such an annoying character. What is it??!!!

Does this really last on car plastics?????
@@philiphodge4254 yes, I did mine 6months ago and it's still really black. The wheel arch was grey, but has stayed black with cherry blossom
