    If i lived in Japan and was an experienced driver i would still put the beginner sticker on my car so people would just stay away from me and not tail gate use reverse psychology on them.

      in the UK we have the same concept but we have a red "L" that you put on your car to show people you are a learning driver. But over here it actually makes people drive closer to you and treat you like shit... LOL

      In Russia we have a similar sign for a new driver - black exclamation mark in a yellow square ( 365cars.ru/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/znak-na-avtomobile.jpg ). Some drivers do really respond with aggressiveness - they can cut you off or tailgate and etc. Funny how the thing that's supposed to decrease chances of RTI sometimes makes it more possible due to dumbness of some people. I still think signs like this are a great idea - I guess the majority of people in most places are adequate and will use extra caution when they see this sign.

    • @Jeerick354
      @Jeerick354 9 лет назад +1

      man those are beautiful pictures, great quality. where do you find car meets like this i have always been interested in meeting a large group of people that just want to look, talk, breathe about cars. My wrx is not the quality of these evo's but i would love to still bring my car and see some nicer ones :)

    • @TheRecon4
      @TheRecon4 9 лет назад

      Kevin Duby Yes they are lol and this meet had an estimated 1400 people attending (according to Facebook confirmed attendees). The garage could only handle 700 cars lol, but I made it just in time. Anyways...
      started going to meets when I got my 2015 WRX in April and the first thing I did was google Cars and Coffee Boston because I don't live to far away from there. Cars and Coffee is an old tradition that has spread to almost everywhere in the US. I highly recommend that you google Cars and Coffee in your area because most likely it exists and they are all encompassing meets which means you can meet a lot of people and find out about other meets.
      Next I went through Nasioc (Nasioc.com) and looked at the meets section in there and found a meet in my area which I now go to every week on Wednesday night and we eat food and talk about Subarus. Find your region on Nasioc and you will be brought to a chapter of Nasioc that has threads that correspond to your area and you may be able to find some Subaru meets on there.
      The number one way i find out about meets is actually through Facebook and that's literally all I use it for. The huge meet I went to was hosted by MassTuning and I highly recommend following the MassTuning Facebook page if you happen to be from Massachusetts and want to be a part of a huge car loving community. Through the meets I found I discovered other meets which usually use Facebook to organize events. These groups include Tuner Status, Night Kids, HardLine Motorsports etc. These are all Massachusetts based events but just incase your around here lol.
      Finally be respectful. A small group of people easily ruin these meets for everyone else and it's not cool. At that huge meet there were specific rules against raving your engine since we were under ground and it makes it hard to breath but some people violated that and a few even did burnouts which then set off the fire alarms and it turned into a mess and Boston Police were not very happy with us because of one guy... Don't be that guy lol

      @Jeerick354 9 лет назад +1

      Thanks man ill try that for detroit then. problem is there are a lot more old school guys here rather than a lot of tuners but we will see.

    When Americans first started using the JDM stickers over 10 years ago. It was because we loved the JDM look of cars, and wanted to embrace everything about the culture, even if its just a goofy sticker with no meaning in the states. Its still has color, its still a JDM item, and it makes your car stand out from others. This can be said with all the other 10,000 stickers or decals put on your car. This is an accesory just like the pointless tow hooks, the hanging stuff animals on drift cars, the giant screw driver shift knobs, and those random items on top of the VW cars with baskets and sport gear mounts. Its just another way to accessorize a car such as jewelry is to humans. I dont think its a bad idea to use it in America, but could be different in Japan.

  • @TheGrayWolf81
    @TheGrayWolf81 9 лет назад +8

    I think the reason that people with JDM cars who actually know what it means use the sticker since their car is so low they have to slow down a lot and try to avoid bumps and holes. Idk just an idea.

  • @Anmiphobia
    @Anmiphobia 9 лет назад +27

    A lot of people know it means "Novice Driver". In the USA, we just love our imports, we love Japanese Cars, we put them on our car because it is a Japanese thing. We all know JDM means Japanese Domestic Market, we just say JDM because it is a automobile term we chose over saying "Wow, that Supra is so badass because it is Japanese." Even if the car was made in the USA, we still say JDM as a way of saying the brand of the car itself is Japanese. Imitation is the greatest form a flattery so just take it as a compliment that even great drivers will put that emblem on their car to reflect on their love for the Japanese car brands

  • @dwaynE2099
    @dwaynE2099 9 лет назад +1

    In Australia you put a dirty great "L" sticker facing forward and rearward while you're on your Learner's Licence. On this licence you drive under supervision, (from a fully licenced parent, instructor etc.) and fill in log books to accumulate driving hours.....
    After a couple of years on your "L" plates you go for a driving test and if you pass you move to "P" plates that show others you're a Provisional Licence holder. "P" plate drivers are allowed to drive with no supervision but have a lot of conditions imposed while they are displaying plates - 0.00 BAC, driving hour curfews, passenger restrictions, restrictions on vehicle horsepower/weight ratios, maximum speed restrictions generally set at 80 - 90kph and others that may have come in since I went through all that....
    Although every state is slightly different in how their systems work you'll see Learner and Provisional drivers displaying these labels all over the country...

    I disagree with your logic that they would help in the US. They're a bad idea and shouldn't be implemented anywhere.
    Reason is very simple: Other drivers will cause accidents. Happens all the time in the UK which has a similar system with their L plates. ESPECIALLY with bikers. Many accidents happen because people see the L plates, then they immediately cut the person off b/c they don't want to get stuck behind them, and they cause an accident. They're a bad idea, because people don't use it as a sign of caution, they use it as a reason to be aggressive.

    That's actually a really good idea for new drivers to be marked. Why don't we do that in America? Hell why stop at youth/elders? There should be a sticker for people who have caused wrecks.

    Here in the US, when someone puts that sticker on their car they usually knows what it means, but instead of it having the meaning "noob" in Japan its a cool way to say hey I'm with this community and I like to par take in these activities

    Haha New Jersey has a red Velcro sticker on the license plate for kids who are 17. I didn't put mine on because I'm a bad ass but they do have that law actually

  • @FELiPES101
    @FELiPES101 9 лет назад +2

    Actually there are beginner stickers in the United States CZeroMedia . In New Jersey beginners are required to place these bright red stickers on the front and rear license plate to designate that they are new to driving. imgick.nj.com/home/njo-media/width620/img/traffic_impact/photo/nj-license-decals-kyleighs-lawjpg-34acd97fc61e7f1d-largejpg-08b92bf31647b38f.jpg

    • @FELiPES101
      @FELiPES101 9 лет назад +1

      I would say the law is 2-3 years old, but not heavily enforced due to its strong opposition before it was passed. There is a lot of concern about it causing more harm than good by giving predators easy targets.

    So this is the equivalent to the "L-Plate" in Australia?
    I legitimately almost fell of my chair with laughter.

  • @w3llplayedMTL
    @w3llplayedMTL 9 лет назад

    The beginner sticker became popular on the drift scene because drifters never passed the test to get the sticker off, so its a thing in the drift scene around the world cause its associated now with drifters failing the exam to take the sticker off.

  • @awo1fman
    @awo1fman 9 лет назад

    Australia has "L" stickers (magnets & brackets that attach to the side of existing license plates) for Learners and "P" ones for Provisional for a time after graduating from "L" or are restricted for other reasons. The rules are complicated and limit what they can drive as well as how fast; in my area L=80 kph, P1=90 kph and P2=100 kph (that's roughly 55, 60 & 65 mph).
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-plate
    I'm ambivalent about it - over here drivers are extremely aggressive and passive-aggressive and road rage is very common, and it's not really the L- and P-players you have to look out for.

    Honestly I'm sure some drifter, or let's say 'car enthusiastic person' (Very possibly Japanese) slapped that sticker on in a sarcastic matter where it would just sarcastically mean he's a begginer (Pulling off shenanigans with cars and doing 'tricks'), someone who is a bit ignorant saw it, thought it was *THE ALMGIHTY DORIFTO sign* and broadened the wrong definition.

    Rookie Driver Stickers... not a bad idea! But, would you tell Richard Petty(77) Darrell Waltrip (68) Cale Yarborough(75) or Mario Andretti(74) ... that they HAVE TO get the senior driver sticker??

    Could you explain concept of JDM style and how not to end up building something else which isn't JDM. It's a car from Japans for domestic market, or tuned with OEM parts which make it look like car from Japan,or Tuned using Japanese aftermarket parts??? I'm only concerned about exterior part not technical. Thx in advance.

  • @yoinks5475
    @yoinks5475 9 лет назад

    People say that the JDM Leaf Sticker is on every JDM car, but I disagree, because there are JDM cars out there with the Elderly JDM Leaf Sticker. But when people know what the meaning of the Leaf Sticker, they sure will take the Sticker off xD

    Japanese domestic market (JDM) is a term for Japan's economic market for Japanese-brand goods, such as automobiles and parts. The term's most common application is to Japanese-brand automobiles built specifically for the Japanese market, i.e., designed and constructed to conform to Japanese vehicle and equipment regulations and to suit Japanese market preferences. JDM vehicles migrate to other markets through ordinary commerce and the grey market.

    Here in Germany we don't have any "marking" for new drivers either.
    But I had a friend whose father bought a "tag" (big magnet reading "Fahrschule", German for "Driving School") that is used during the driving school lessons, and he'd secretly put it on the car whenever his son was driving.
