Why are Nissan Skylines illegal in the US? JDM OVERLOAD EP1

- Опубликовано: 7 авг 2015
- There are some myths and a lot of guessing as to why the Nissan Skyline is illegal in the US. Don’t get me wrong, I wish we could import R34 GT-Rs as easily as Canada and Australia. But there are some not so clear reasons why Godzilla has a hard time getting to American shores. This is the first episode of a new series. Bugatti: 1001 hp, W16 engine with quad turbos. Legal. Skyline GTR: 300 hp, Inline 6 with two turbos. Illegal.
Because skylines are japanese jdm ricer platforms so its worse
+Steev Don you gonna pay for it?
Over a Japanese car? Yes
+Steev Don Cool. Get me one too while youre at it.
+Steev Don And you can totally afford the tires, insarance and everything else, cant you?
So .. You can drive around a 1000hp Bugatti but not a 500 hp skyline
Tiago Ferreira emissions regulations and safety requirements, son
Itz Jetlife irony
buggatis are illegal in certain places of usa
Uh...really?
Itz Jetlife bro bhp an hp are totally different yea a Bugatti is fast but a skyline having 1000+ bhp a get to them high speeds ALOT quicker , on roads not on the highway the cops have NO chance .. while the buggati reaches high speed with luxury romance , but I still don't understand cause Supra is just as beast an they legal an a lot more cars but I ain't getting to details
USA: you can’t drive a skyline in America
Paul walker: hold my beer
Lmao
Yes
I think they asked to drive that car here to make the movie
Most were fake r34 Bodies sitting on a VW beetle. Only the veilside blue skyline was real. And they had to get it out of the US as soon as possible, so it was sold to someone in germany
Is a movie bro is fake
So essentially, the car is so fast and creates so much heat that it can in fact bond two hydrogen atoms to create helium causing nuclear fusion? That's dope asf
Jae Watkins don't tell CERN this because they'll feel like assholes for spending so much on their atom smasher!
Damn.. so you're telling me that all Osama Bin Laden had to do was buy some Skylines and he'd have nuclear weapons driving around the country?
no, your all blind, the reason is simple, the skylines have an addiction to guardrails. its obvious, the funds needed to repair the guardrails would be too much
I have no idea what that meant but I like it
Wtf lol
it's illegal cause it's less than 25 years old and needs to meet us emissions laws, however the R32 can now be imported cause it's over 25 yrs old
RepoDraghon There's more to it than that
Yes but that is the main, main reason. Another is the VIN
The video states the reasons why it's illegal (Nissan never made a US-Spec Skyine.) The 25 year rule is a RESULT of those reasons (the grey market, lobbying funded by Mercedes etc) The show or display rule, the 25 year rule are more like exceptions than they are limitations. I honestly see the 25 year rule as a loophole to getting cars that would otherwise be illegal in the states.
The VIN isn't an issue actually. The DMV and most insurance companies will work with you if you provide a shorter Japanese VIN
I actually am subscribed to a Japanese car auction and exporter site called Japan Partner and I asked them the regs. I'm just confirming what you said plus adding more. So don't get me wrong, I am agreeing here... cops were breaking down on the imports cause of the shorter vin thing a few years ago cause most insurance companies and DMVs would just add 0s to the vin or something like that to trick the system into accepting the car. The 25 year rule may have been cause of this but something similar was in place long before that for smog emissions on domestic vehicles (used to be anything made before 1975 didn't need a smog check I believe). Now it's set to 25 years.
So to summarize: the Skyline will go so fast, so quick, according to some extrapolations of Einstein's equations of general relatively (& special relativity), the GT-R, if it accelerates fast enough, and builds enough of a velocity(under a parametric curve)/speed (yes, faster than "c") will cause the car to travel back in time. I understand now. Thanks and NASA does not approve (like) Nissan because they beat them to their own game.
Reading this killed me😂😂😂
don't forget to your seat belt
you're thinking of the DeLorean DMC12.
The GTR though might possibly break the space-time continuum causing black holes leading to another dimension where American cars are actually good.
How exactly do you consider vehicals from the us shit when for instance the Ford f100 was designed and built to last a minimum of twenty five years before it even need any parts changed and fun fact they did.
+NDRonin1401 lmfao!
Cause people got mad when they were staring at the ass end of a gtr everytime they were losing in Gran Turismo.
jacob anderson Well if we are going off topic, Skylines aren't always a guaranteed win against every other potentially fast car. (Minus the glitches and hacks)
TheXthefallenX obviously you never played Gran Turismo. Take a hike
Lol hahaha. The Skyline and one of those rally cars “opel btw” were op asf
lmao true... xD
Polyphony's favorite car... Lol
I think this is halarious because someone has a like 2500bhp street legal truck
HarryTheCubbyToaster is it made in japan ? does it need to meet U.S market specs ????? it's not bout power or speed dumbass
sh0bskib00b theres also an over 2000hp corvette
sh0bskib00b farmtruck?
*hilarious
halarious ?
Nah its because all the big bore american muscle enthusiasts didn't want the get chopped at the drags
Until you throw in some turns, then those muscle cars would spank that silly import.
+MadCarTK that's extremely ironic.
+MadCarTK I truly laughed my ass off reading your comment.
+MadCarTK Ummmm No.....Just...No
+MadCarTK ahaha good trolling :P
I think that the 25 year rule is stupid and as said Horsepower is not the thing because a 1500hp Supra is fully legal
Ikr even still Bugatti veyron still legal or your dodge hellcat
Even the world most powerful truck 3000 Hp is street legal
Yeah
A 1500hp supra isn't fully legal.. Those things have soooooo many illegal mods..
Chris Gamer there is a 3000 hp drag car that is street legal
I had a buddy years ago who had tried to buy a skyline. after going through all legal channels he found that the reason for the illegal status is due to safety reasons. after spending about $17,000 in safety modes he had a legal skyline. Cool for him but didn't think it was worth the money
Let me tell you the actual reality that why is it banned. Go open up the US history books of top-crime which is indeed top confidential of all time. Here, let me tell you the truth. Someone robbed a bank and stole a stash worth 2 billion dollars. The person I mean that had this Nissan R-34 GT-R completely tuned I think which he used to escape the bank but ended up getting caught after I don't know the exact time of chasing but you can guess it from the way He switched straight away three states in a single day. The safety regulation feature test on this car that made it banned is insanely false. The reality is that your dummy donut eating pups couldn't handle this beast so they pulled it out of the roads. That's the reality
@@zoltankhan2953 False.
@@zoltankhan2953 and who was that someone, toretto?
@@majorhurricane3712 😂😂
not true
"The US have very high standards when it comes to safety and EMISSION regulations"
Haha, damn you're funny!
707 horsepower stock is efficient
Lol with the beginning argument motorcycles shouldn't exist.. Most liter bikes can hit 190 stock.
Yeah it sounded like some fanboy "GTRs are too fast for Americans!"
lol...with you guys. I thought explain the Veyron.
+Gunfu Brizzo how the heck am i seeing skyline s and gtrs drag racing. why would us ban them i cant understand lol.
Yeah, he later explains the real reason some cars aren't legal in the U.S. A few other videos from California show that stock Skylines can't pass CA emissions test. Along with a bunch of cars that aren't even remotely sporty and have chances of outrunning a crown vic about as such of a bicycle. Nothing to do with their speed.
Speaking of which, I hate to disappoint some of you, but stock Skylines aren't the fastest cars in the world :-) And certainly there are faster cars that are totally legal in the U.S., including CA (which has it's own additional tightass car emission requirements).
I don't even know if it's officially legal in the U.S. Does that contraption have a catalytic converter at all? If it don't then probably not. DMV don't care if it costs $2 million or what.
But then, if you've got Veyron you can probably afford to pay a registration ticket every time you drive it and get pulled over.
BUT THEN - if a cop sees a Veyron - I think the registration will be the last on his mind. He'll probably still pull you over for something stupid just to look at the car, etc. See videos of a dude on a fire-spitting Lambo getting pulled over and talking to the cops.
Police/Government are crying about a gtr that has 500 hp, smh. Dodge just recently released the Challenger Hellcat that come 707 hp STOCK! Come on now
+Fyurex 👍
its not about power
+Fyurex California Highway Patrol in Los Angeles PD keep whatever cars they impound Highway Patrol at special high speed units comprised of nothing but Lamborghinis Ferraris Maseratis hopped up muscle cars as well as any confiscated illegal vehicles one of which they use for show is an R34 Skyline even being a government entity they're not above the 25-year rule the truth be told I haven't seen the R34 in awhile possible that they retired it and sold it to a collector or just ran it through a car compactor
the hellcat is a fat slow car compared to other fast American cars. just because you have all that power dosent make it fast.
I get a kick out of people who bring up the Hell Cat. I been turned of by American cars for it;s cookie cutter looks and it awful interior.
the rules are bullshit i think so
JDM M4ST3R avs lets move together to japan :)
American rules are bullshit XD
Dan5611thegaming gaming of minecraft "FREEDOM"
R35 yes
bonoballistic 1 If the car is more than 25 years old, the rules no longer apply to them.
Basically if you want some kind of informative conclusion, the US 25 year import rule applies to any kind of car, that was originally not intended to be sold in the US. Back in the 1980's when japanese cars became more and more popular, the more expensive european cars weren't able to compete with the prices. So during late 80's, a bunch of Mercedes lobbyists were hired, demanding tighter regulations and the 25 year import rule for the foreign cars in the US market. Now some car manuafacturers kept some of their models to themselves because of the tighter regulations, while some models were never intended to be sold outside their homeland. An example of these cars are the Nissan Skylines ranging all the way from the 50's to the last production year of R34.
the us has very high standards when it comes to safety and emiss...
Hold on! Somebody messed up my script.
funny thing about that is the us spend loads to get throw the uk vehicle emissions yet we have the r34
The US has (or had) side impact, headlight and lighting regulations that Europe and Asia didn't have. That meant designing and building cars with unique US only systems which where expensive.
In the cars from the 50's if you take the exhaust filter off, it still passes emissions tests, so people need to find another excuse
Naythan Smith exhuast filter? you mean the catalytic converter? lol
emissions???? LOL, they so worried about emissions ( they allow 100+ leaking galore nuke reactors 40 yrs past their operation limits, and the banned (well killed) the hidrogen/water engine prototypes.... usa sucks dick
" 1v1 me m8, Ill rek u in cod" "my 1100hp skyline will eat your car" - your average r34 fanboy
pretty much.
Bro ill rek you in my gold camo r34600rr bro. Oh you never heard of that car? Cause you're a lame , it came with the Fast And furious Tokyo drift collectors edition . It does 5000 HP to the front right wheel , and has the marathon perk on the tires m8 so you know that shit fast. I also got white under glow on that shit , cause it's a fucking ghost mah boi.. I also got a V-Tec sticker on the front bumper , but you will never see it cause it's so fucking fast you knob m8.
i didnt know call of duty had skylines!
Josh River yh m8 its an exclusive perk called need 4 sweed. Comes with skylines and buagttis init
Call of Duty and Skyline , GTA and Supra?
United States where u can’t drive a r34 gtr but legally drive a tank
"its illegal because its too fast/powerful" meanwhile far more powerful cars are sold in the US some of which are also AWD
The Skyline is probably the best looking car in history
It's a sexy beast.
it's my dream car and
FINNALY I HAVE BOUGHT THAT CAR!!!!!! i was live in england by the way
the supra is one of the best as well
mehhh... i think its pretty generic looking. before all the tuners and ricers hit the scene nobody gaf nor did they care to hear about this car. me personally the supra is a better looking car
Fobidir
Yea the Supra is very nice. Still looks good today.
So. . . US Dealers got butthurt? That's like the shittiest reason ever.
no, that's lobbyism
If youre not allowed to do something and it doesnt really make sense its because some huge company paid millions to secure your politicians voteagainst it so that they can make more money. Never has anything to do with logic just greed power and money.. dont vote trump lol
presidents have no power
Actually it wasn't "US Dealers" but "Foreign dealers". Lets say I visit a country and buy a car for 15-20% less then in the US, depending on the cost of import it could be cheaper then just buying it here. The foreign dealers may end up loosing any additional profit. My theory at least.
+Joe Ross I think I saw a discovery or some other documentary years ago. In that the reason of banning Skyline was the pressure on the us govt from Ford and GM. They were worried because it is easily tunable and youngsters loved the option to connect your car to the computer and tune it's attributes straight out.
I'm convinced that argument was written by a 15 yr old who just finished watching the first fast and furious
Ok completely unrelated from the video but, u can 2jz swap a r34. Does that mean I can add the awd components to my mk4 Supra? I know there are awd supras but do they use the r34 system?
muuuuuuuuuuuuuriiiicaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
guns = legal
skyline = illegal
+breezaur talking about safety when their cars cannot turn properly and use 50 year old technology
Why is it weird that guns are legal?
lmao u made me day
not all guns are legal lmfao angry fanboy
+Gartoselo damu love whats up mad american
I'm don't even live in America, why am I watching this.
HAHAHAHAHA seriously dude! you could be driving a r34 as we speak!!!
***** they are super expensive where I live and it has to be LHD to be legal. and the conversion itself is so expensive. I would just get a supra. or live in Australia where u don't even have to convert it haha. I know some people who left their country to Australia just to own a gtr without converting it haha talk about passion.
+Avarian Because it said Nissan Skyline in the title. That's why.
+Musa M Even here in eastern Europe it's legal.I've seen R33 GT-R,R34 GT-R and an R35.
its always good to learn about other countries. I watch stuff on countries I don't live in all the time.
What is the movie with the R31 you were speaking of?
if so ban the r 35 and r33 and r32 and lambo I mean they are all awd and can hit over 1k bhp
I don't get the point of your argument... The R34, R33 and most R32s are currently "banned" in the US. The "ban"" has nothing to do with hp at all.
Skylinedude did you not watch the video
Uh...you know I made this video right lol?
Skylinedude lol whoops man I didn't realize it lol sorry about that man but I still don't completely understand why they are illegal
It's all good:) Basically Nissan never made a US version for some reason. Because of that decision - the car doesn't US safety standards
American laws are just stupid :D
truuuu
Being civil usually is right??
They rather crush imports than terriosts
itzSalawMachuuu Haha :D Yeah, right^^
agree
It's to fast do have in the United States but it's ok to have a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini. Wtf
^this^
I was thinking the same! is just stupid as fuck!
Yeah the guy later explains the real reasons - they have nothing to do with power/speed.
its ok to have a expensive fast car but not a affortable fast car
Mooseman then buy a lambo dumbass
what song was playing in the background
does anyone know the name of the movie he was referring to with the r31?
plez halp I have family to feed. many appreciates to you
bon bon initial D. there was a cartoon made too.
+Mike Marvel Nope. It's a movie called Dash NSX 2. It was made in the 90s. Check my vids, I did a review of it.
Because, while it is a good car, it is massively over-rated and massively over-hyped.
Yes, the Skyline is a good car, but there are better cars out there.
+Christopher0184 no
R u crazy???
Probably u don't know what's a skyline
+John Alexander you must be 10
+EZ STANCE like really,,,,,it don't have a top rated car I don't know,,,,when it comes to time attack that's one of the best ,,,,when it comes to mods that's anoth best n they r plenty times cheaper than the cars y'all claim is better n dey r more violent than them all day
+EZ STANCE like really,,,,,it don't have a top rated car I don't know,,,,when it comes to time attack that's one of the best ,,,,when it comes to mods that's anoth best n they r plenty times cheaper than the cars y'all claim is better n dey r more violent than them all day
What a load of BS. There are many legal GT-Rs in the U.S. I see them a couple times a month on streets here in California.
The horsepower thing... Sure 500 hp is a lot, but there are tons of American cars that have as much and more. A Z06 Corvette in fact has a higher power-to-weight ration than a GT-R, and possibly a higher top speed and whatnot. And it can sure outrun the police Crown Vics and Ford Explorers. But not a police helicopter and certainly not a radio. Noone's gonna try to chase you down at 150+ mph. They just gonna track you in a chopper (multiple choppers if needed) - and wait till you slow down, get stuck in traffic or simply run out of gas (which happens quicker than you might think if you're doing 150+ mph btw).
What year GT-Rs are you talking abut?
Like, 2010+
Now that you asked - it does seem that there aren't any older models on the U.S. market. But the "they are overpowerred!" doesn't hold, as the newer ones are faster than the older ones... Well I was a bit quick to react. The newer GTRs aren't called "Skyline" either. Dunno why, but that nickname was dropped for them.
Actually watched the video now. Makes sense. Also - no Russian cars in the U.S. Would never meet emissions/smog test. Catalytic converter? Wat iz that? (c) Unknown in Russia. Compensated by the fact that there are much less population density, and even less car density there. Noone gives a damn about emissions. But here in Cali, if every car was puffin' smoke like an average Russian car - it would become a barely inhabitable wasteland very fast :-D
A shame the Skylines aren't available tho. I was in fact looking for one - saw only the 2011+ models for over 50k. Oh well. Probably too much for me now anyway. By the time I level up enough to drive a GTR maybe I'll save enough to get one of them.
+Mikhail Kabakov Thanks for the awesome comment! If you have the right determination and mindset - you'll for sure be able to get a GT-R!
Yeah, maybe in 2-3 years I will. Got a 335i bimmer for now. Gonna get some track experience on that first. A shame the GTR doesn't come with a manual (I kinda prefer manual), but hey I don't believe that I could possibly shift a stick more efficiently than a GRS's auto tranny does heh. So maybe it's good that it has an auto after all.
Is the engine legal? I might do a sleeper build with one.
Anybody knows the low budget Japanese movie mentioned in the video? Thanks!
Because the skyline is waaaay better and waaaay more fun than any American muscle So they ban the car. Loosers
+Naveen Warnakulasooriya Are you sure it's not for safety and emissions control?
Bro, American wins everytime, even sliding
+Robin360 you really think a Skyline is worse on the environment than the countless 5+ liter V8s and V10s that American automakers slap into their cars in an effort to make them appealing?
That's not even considering the jacked-up, double smokestack Cummins diesels that stalk around our cities, punting out giant plumes of smoke upward from every intersection they take off from.
American wins everytime? really? as in what? not drifting but sliding? LOL...I wish u could have a test drive of any GTR spec one day....then only u do the comparison. :)
Not really. Both are just as bad. The V8 is putting the exhaust out in as much of a quantity as a turbo'd V6. I've rarely heard of a V10 being a regular amongst the american crowd, even in supercars (except for maybe the Viper). Diesel may be a hell of a lot better than a gasoline engine would ever be (PS: the only good cummins is one in a Peterbilt (EXTREME DODGE BIAS)).
Americans should just come to Canada and find a Skyline...
We could but then can't bring it back and would have a difficult time if we wanted to stay because of citizenship. Don't get me wrong I would love to move to Canada, but it is easier said than done. Btw california is the worst state to live in the United states. Born and raised here in southern California and hope to not spend the rest of my days here.
That's what I meant. Since the U.S can't allow Skylines, if people want one, they could move to Canada and own their skylines here in Canada because the Canadian government does allow the skyline...
+Adrian James Godoy my point is its not as easy to move to Canada as it sounds...
+A13U53D I've lived in Saskatchewan all my life and fucking hate the 6 month, extremely far below freezing winters we get, but the blazing summers and JDM scene make it worth it I suppose
+A13U53D trust me man you would be cursing yourself, I don't know what -50 degrees Celsius is in Fahrenheit, which we hit a couple times a winter, and I assure you it is lethal if you go out without a ton of heavy jacket/snow pants. People die every year up here from their cars breaking down and being stranded out in the elements
Sooooo Centenario lp770-4 (hp770 awd) ok but 500hp awd skyline not ok?
Excuse me I need help!!! but is it possible to make the Nissan nismo gtr LM an all wheel drive ?
+Mista _Wo They designed it so the answer is yes...but why?
Skylinedude is it weird that I have one ?
+Mista _Wo Yep it would be unless you are part of the race team lol
Because cops can't keep up with it lol. Cop cars can't keep up with most cars anyway. A police car is just a normal American car with a tighter suspension and amost 400 pounds of equipment added into it. you have a cage, GPS, equipment, push bumper, sirens and lights. No other performance is added into it. So saying its illegal because of that would make every car illegal.
I think most people just can't get away from the crown vics because they're shitty drivers haha .
and the new ones are fwd XD. So they aren't keeping up with anyone without the Chargers, and even then, cars can still escape it. almost anything can out run a standard crown vic
I know some crown vics and the new dodge chargers come equipped with the police interceptor package (supercharger), but they are really heavy cars as it is and as you said they add a lot of weight to it with all their gear....
+RedTeamWolf you are stupid to the ford Taurus is awd with a sho engine they are quik cars the chevy caprice is also a new rwd car as is the dodge charger
conner butler who are you talking to?
True, if the Skyline was legal back in the days all other cars in USA would look like big old trucks on the road. XD
USA was afraid of the Japanese supremacy in automobile performance (so much with so little) and reliability. :-P
+Fábio Pereira (Serzedo) And still asian cars sell like hot cakes. I reckon Subaru is the no1 seller in the states.
Subarus are not even that popular... Lol
+Bizo221 pretty sure its toyota
+Bizo221 Subaru is not even one of the top 3 Japanese makes in the US (Toyota, Honda, Nissan in that order). In the US they are mostly seen as a good choice of bad-weather family car, because they are 4WD and about the only make that manufactures multiple 'station wagon' models.
They out-sell Mazda though, which is a shame since Madzas are about the prettiest Japanese cars of the big makers...
+Fábio Pereira (Serzedo) oh please the GTR is basically a Mustang with AWD and a turbo
Who is the owner of the blue r34 from michigan ( 0.10 )
Any body know what movie he’s talking about ?? Old downhill racer ??
not many humans ever Heard about the skyline but when they see IT they fall in lova
love*
lol true
never.. atracts only tuned gtrs pure perforrmance, im in love with silvias more.. atleast looks not like gtr boxes on wheels.. (anyway newest one is more mature style to me)
I love Skylines, and GT-Rs.
+Easy game , easy life Not many americans u mean. In australia they are everywhere. My neice has one.
It's ironic that the US impose spec restrictions on foreign cars. US cars in the main are truly awful. If you want anything decent buy Japanese or European!
what's the second car shown?
What was the name of that movie , of the down hill racer with the skyline.
Dash NSX 2
the common sense of some people just absolutely blows my mind. I mean the skyline isn't the ONLY fast car out there yet some people like this think that it is.
The US should sell this for a number of counter reasons.
"The US has very high standards when it comes to safety and emissions regulations."
This one made me laugh.
Yeah? How so?
what is the movie called
What was the name of the movie you referenced?
R31 are my fav Skyline, the best looking after the R32 and GTR-2000 ;)
Oh god, it's the "I own a skyline, I automatically know everything about skylines" guy.
+BIHMOSTWANTED I don't own a Skyline anymore...
Skylinedude good, then it's time to change your username.
I will...as soon as subaruwrxfan changes his to ecoboostmustangfan lol
You should check out my latest ride
+Skylinedude haha dont mind me hust living in nz things are worthless lol gangster asf just worth jack all also nz recived every car the rb platform was in so parts are everywhere
all skylines and gtrs look like bubbly sedans minus 2 doors. don't look sporty or exotic at all
Ah youre wrong because there are 4 door Skylines - so there some that look exactly like sedans
+Skylinedude ummmm no im not wrong at all..u see my statement was an opinion statement and im entitled to my opinion. and all u did was prove me right by stating that there are actually 4dr cars. and again don't look sporty or exotic one bit. so basically its comparable to a Subaru, evo, gallant vr4 ,Taurus sho, oh wait im sorry an sho would destroy one of those shitbombs. have a great day
+Marc Unger Of course you are entitled to your opinion:) It's my opinion that I proved you wrong as you talked as if you were unaware that there are Skyline sedans as well. I agree with you that a SHO might take some Skylines. The SHO is pretty awesome actually!
+Skylinedude im not wrong on anything. nothing factual was stated and I was unaware of a skyline sedan
+Marc Unger 'All skylines and gtrs look like bubbly sedans minus 2 doors'. You said all - which means you're saying 'all skylines have 2 doors'. Then you said you didn't know sedans exist. Im no expert but I think that would make you 'wrong':P
what song is that
3:18 song name?
For me it was probably need for speed underground that made me fall in love with the R34
+GaDaoud Gran Turismo 2 in 2000
2 fast 2 furious is the first time I heard of the Skyline.lol
Need for speed underground for me
skyline and Nissan GTR are well known all over the world except u.s. the only 'cheap' sport car embarrassed plenty of so called super cars including ferrari, porche, merc, lamborgini, mustang etc etc. In u.k. 50,000 pound easily beat 200,000 super car....hahahaha
Stupidly enough, the first time I heard of the skyline, was roblox. Thats right, roblox. You can't really blame me, I was a little kid at the time
Tru
Are there any gtr models that are legal??
How than that 917 was registred in us and brought back to eu ,cant you do the same with skyline
I'll never understand when the narrator says/mentions that in videos about North America..
"They have strict emission laws/regulations"
Soo.., how exactly is a Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang, Chervolet Camaro and various other petrol drinking american make vehicles doing less environmental damage than most of the European, Japanese or even Australia made vehicles?
+MrAndersie91 emissions is a fucking cop out they did it to protect US based manufacturers and even domestic german manufactureres like mercedes. all about the money and power. they like to do your thinking for you thats why drugs are illegal cuz we are too fucking stupid to make our own choices apparently.
MrSoLiDIcE A lot of European manufacturers have low Co2 Emission vehicles. So i dont understand why they arent allowed into North America.
The car i drive is 1.6TDI Leon it has 120hp and 290Nm, but only produces 99g/Co2 and can return up to 75mpg.
Like i said, how thats not allowed into America, i have no idea
+MrAndersie91 They need alot of stuff that supposedly makes it cleaner exhaust. even the Big 3 (cough) Big 2 (cough) need to follow it or even they get fined big time.
Jack Mendez What stuff though, thats what i dont understand because so many European and Japanese petrol cars and diesel cars are already way, waayy cleaner than the American counterpart. Like i said, things like V8 Pickups, Vipers, Mustangs and Camaro are supposedly cleaner? 😐
But the Big 3 and Big 2 what?
+MrAndersie91 A twin turbo inline 6 from the 90s isn't exactly "green" either.
honestly waste of my time
Stfu
“honestly waste of my time”
Then why the hell did you watch this video if you think it’s a waste of your time?! Dumbass!
So, you did not specify in your video whether they are only illegal for street use, or if they are illegal to own/operate in any fashion. Does this law only restrict you from making one street legal, or does it prevent you from legally owning one and transporting it to tracks via trailer, and operating it on the track as well?
Good question! From what I know...you can use it for race purposes and film purposes for a limited amount of time
can we drive them in another country
how some say its too powerful thats why its illegal, there are lambos and other exotics faster that are illegal, but here in new zealand, theres so many skylines that i dont even like them any more :/
Totally agree man! Im a HUGE Skyline fan but I know its not the fastest car in the world
Yea man there are some in Australia too, New Zealanders import jdm cars from Japan, and then we can get them from you guys with less restrictions than from Japan
+Skylinedude it's not illegal to have its just a pain in the ass and a big headache. Oh can't forget a big waste of money if the car isn't 25 years old or older yet. that's when it goes from grey to white market lol. if the car is 25 or older it doesn't have to meet us standards. I've spent 5 years doing research. Cal. Florida and Texas you have to get exemption plates and a right hand drive sticker on rear window. all other states that I've researched just require one to have it listed as a antique.
Thanks for the comment! I'm very away of the 25 year rule (my car falls under it). There are a couple of other ways to get a Skyline and other 'illegal vehicles' in the country legally. The rule I follow is this; if it isn't at least 25 years old...it's probably illegal, no matter what they tell you.
The Paper Ninja wow i thought i was going crazy lol there are sooo many skylines around here in hamilton im sure im like one of 2 or 3 people who drive a supra
Safety and emisions in the US? WTF. You don't have to pass any kind of safety test, you ride 5 and 6 liters engines, use hot rod and rat rod on public streets....
Those are not production cars though.
Plenty of production cars have "5 and 6" liter engines. It's fucked +Aliendrifter66 I know. It's bullshit, but nothing we can do about it.
I know that but my point is that rat rods aren't production cars. But the problem is the lobbyists not wanting to lose money from superior Japanese cars.
Daniel Gonzalez things like rat rods and those home made things can't be used in most countries cos their security isn't proved
+ALIENdrifter66 A car that is no more than 25 years old must meet the EPA and DOT safety standards and regulations. Once a car is 25 years old in the USA it can then be registered as an Antique Vehicle, which is not required to meet DOT and EPA standards, therefore that is why rat rods/Hot rods and things of that nature can be driven.
So will we be able to get a 2001 Skyline GTR in 2026 due to the 25 year exempt?
+h2bbuilt Correct
Is it just R34 or the rest of them from R30 to R33 and R35
what bothered me the most about the beginning message was ' it's four-wheel drive'. gtr's are actually all-wheel drive.
+PC Masterpeice Yeah I agree with you, his terminology was a bit off but I tend to not be too nitpicky as I admittedly have made that slip of the tongue before. I'd rather focus on the major inaccuracies.
+Skylinedude yeah his terminology is just... *sigh*... and I guess what he also don't understand is how he doesn't relize that the cop cars in the US are getting a beef up, and helicopters, AND roadblocks... so there's that.
+PC Masterpeice True lol
Skylinedude I don't know if its around anymore, but I remember hearing about a shop that if you imported a gtr they would bring it up to US spec. And I believe that as long as you don't drive it until it is brought up to spec you could dodge the 25 year restriction, I'm probably wrong though.
+PC Masterpeice I saw one importer (may have been Risvu) that managed to import an R33 (which had been modified) - which has been unheard of since the fall of Motorex. I think for now that's the only loophole. To this day, the only way to get the R34 is to get it under Show or Display. It's definitely possible, but you have to drop a lot of cash!
This video is illegal in US
Lol
They are legal now though right cause they are older than 25?
intro song?
Yeah, so they would ban the Skyline but cars that are much faster then the Skyline are still legal. Makes sense.
+Retz Yeah because a Bugatti that makes almost twice as much to the wheels as a base model R34 makes so much sense as to why the Skylines are illegal, but thank god we have the 25 year law, R32s for everyone!!!
+V1d3oGam3Play3r the bugatti is also over a million dollars. skyline is what? 20 grand tops?...
Bryce Claxon If you're looking for a skyline GT-R that passes the 25 year law in the U.S. right now they run about that range, you look for an R34 you're looking around 60k but that wasn't the point of my comment anyway
+Bryce Claxon #RandomAnswer Skyline GT-R's around these parts are 65k all day.. Not Bugatti Money but still
makes no sense
So a car is illegal because it's not known. Makes sense. Keep up with this logic.
Ummm...who said that? Lol
Skylinedude
That's what is implied in the video. There was no justification whatsoever in the video for why skyline is illegal in USA although you mentioned that the probable main reason you don't have skyline there is because it was unknown. One can simply conclude that the car is illegal because it was not known.
There's no reason whatsoever for why the car is illegal in USA in the same way Michael Shumacher is illegal in some USA states. That only demonstrates how incredible stupid some people in USA really are.
Probably doesn't take long to some crazy retarded leader ban carbon dioxide from an entire state. So every human should be taxed to polute the air with such gas.
Good comment - I think Nissan realized their mistake when they decided to make the R35 available internationally
Skylinedude
Thanks.
Why is that?
Their CEO a Brazilian was the reason they revived the GT-R a little bit after the company nearly went bankrupt. He understood how popular the Skyline GT-R was and decided to bring it back as a supercar. This not only excited the Japanese fans but the rest of the world as well.
is it illegal in Canada ?
why is the gtr r35 nismo legal and the r34 not?
No passenger Airbag, non-compliant O2 sensor among many reason. However....That law you talked about doesn't apply to classic cars. 25 years or older cars don't need to pass EPA standards in order to register. Just have to be patient :D
Thanks! I have a vid on the 25 year exemption and how to buy a Nissan Skyline
The car is not "illegal". When has a cop ever stopped you to ask for your legality certificate for your car? As the gentleman explained, some cars are just not shipped to certain markets for various reasons. I live in Saudi Arabia. You can find top-tier super-cars here for sale, but something as low-end as the new Renault Clio RS220 is not brought into the Saudi market simply because there is no demand for the car here. Furthermore, for vehicles to work properly here and in most Gulf countries, they have to be modified with up to 50% larger cooling systems, uprated interiors, and more rugged external equipment such as sensors, and better intake and filtration systems to deal with the heat, the sand and dust. Most European market cars are designed to be operated in an ambient temperature range between -20C and +40C. Here, the temperatures in the summer can easily go past 55C, which can cause equipment failures and possible expensive recalls or lawsuits for manufacturers. For other countries like the US, the emissions requirements are very strict and many vehicles never make it to the market because they cannot pass the emissions tests. It has absolutely fuckall to do with the performance, price, or power output of the car. You can buy cars much much faster than the R34 in the US... including the successor, the R35. That guy's post was just about the most mind-numbing stupidity I've come across on the internet today.
it is illegal, us customs and marshalls sieze them all the time
stupidplants yes... just how half a million diesel engined vw vehicles are also "illegal" because they aren't passing emissions tests. It's not because they are super fast or something.
In the U.S., if it's illegal, you can even register it
+Nauman Javed Car is illegal. Would not be able to register it, would not be able to get it inspected, would not be able to get it insured. In the US, that is how it works.
+Nauman Javed emissions tests aren't required on diesels where I'm at. diesel emissions don't need to be measured because most falls as particulate on the ground.
so if i take my supra and my skyline to america the skyline wont be allowed to enter american border.
Currently the only thing I wanna know is the name of the touge movie whit the R31, thanks ;)
Awesome! Look at my vids, I did a full review of it;)
why ilegal:
1. cheaper than bullshit American muscles
2. badass than bullshit American muscles
3. cops use an American muscles
4. because that's a GTR
Japanese cute RB > gigantic American V8
Lord Facustus It is partly Nissan's fault, not "bullshit" American muscle cars. Plus I've never seen a Skyline worth less than $5k.
Lord Facustus Plus some of your reasons are biased bullshit. You paid 0 attention to the video explaining the real reasons. Hell I would love a Skyline myself so don't take the fact I also love muscle cars as a biased statement, because I love any car that has a potential to be fast while being badass.
Lord Facustus A skyline melts behind the exhausts of a chevelle ss
DAVID HESINGTON Ford bought Mazda. Although I would love a Mazda RX-7. But I wouldn't judge all of their vehicles because some of their flawed designs. Even Chevy Lumina was a piece of shit. My Sister in law had that from her parents. And it breaks down quite frequently. But that doesn't mean that all Chevy is shit. Even with Dodge vehicles.
TheXthefallenX Agreed.
Well the Skyline GTR was never intended to sell outside Japan, like Sylvia and other performance cars in the 90s.
+cptramius Agreed, except the Silvia was sold around the world in different names, eg. 200SX in Europe and 240SX in USA.
correct me if I'm wrong but are Bugattis legal in the US and they put out 1000 HP and can go upwards of 240mph if I'm right why wouldn't they alow gtrs?
Ashton Moselle fuck knows.... racism
We have Nissan GT-Rs in the US. This video is about Nissan Skylines. It has nothing to do with speed/hp at all.
what happens if we buy 1
lolololol its legal in Australia
+EFVideography - Wulfey Canada too
+EFVideography - Wulfey UK too and Europe
That's special
+NGRPNathanKing not entire europe, greece its illegal but cyprus its leggal!!!laws!!!
+EFVideography - Wulfey in sweden too
the main reason the skyline was never released in america is because the steering column would get in the way of the turbo housing.
Really? Never heard this one before. Have any more info about this?
+Skylinedude nissan engineering department would have to redesigned the engine bay so that the turbo housing would not interfere with the steering column of those years. which is why in markets with right hand drive availability the skyline is usually offered.
Very interesting - thanks!
+Skylinedude how does toyota do it with the supra you would ask? in right hand drive the turbo sits on the same side as the steering wheel. in either case they still released a USDM version, turbo'd with the steering wheel on the left. is it cause toyota decided to spend the money to do so or it was behind the engineering of the engine bay itself? i gave up looking into the "real" reason behind nissan being cheap asses into not releasing a USDM version of their iconic car. maybe overall, they thought about value in the end in the case of rarity.
Isn't this made bye Final cut pro
I will say this... this vid could have been made with various video editors
Does this apply to supercars?BC there's supercars that are legal in the u.s that are wayyyy faster than police.
Speed has nothing to do with it
The forum excerpt was funny! I will be posting a video on my channel soon about the prevalence of illegally imported vehicles in the U.S. and the risk these individuals importing them are taking.
Awesome man. I saw that message board a few months ago - always makes me chuckle!
Looking forward to seeing it
"[The US have very high standarts on safety and emissions]" LOL haha
Explain the humor...
Julius Quinger lmao
Is that a huge crack in the windscreen of the car videoing the Skyline?
ruclips.net/video/OXSpT_FqwlQ/видео.htmlm
Higher than India and China for sure.
@@Skylinedude it’s the fact you can have 1500+ hp on a super car
its up to the driver when drive safely or not
Is there a way I could own and drive an r34 in America? Do I have to go to Japan and bring one back lol
2:48 "the US has very high standarts when it comes to safety and emmission regulations" never laughed so hard. u have never been to europe
you didn't even really answer the question what the f***
Can anyone tell me the name of that Japanese movie he was watching?
Dash NSX 2
JDM Overload thanks brother
No problem! And check my vids...I did a video review on it
What if they radio in a Helicopter and get the car surrouned?
I can own a car that goes 265+ and 1000+ hp (Bugatti) but not a Nissan
It has nothing to do with HP bro
Skylinedude I'm a smoker not a car guy ,just wanted to be apart of something
bugatti: 1000+ hp W16 with 4 turbos
usa: yee
r34: 327 hp 2.6L I6 twin turbocharged engine
usa: nee
they are legal in australia but you have to meet certain requirements to drive one if your on your red or green p plates
What's that low-budget Japanese film about the racer with an R31?
