Greg, too, if he had stayed healthy. Brown, Kelly, Motley, Mitchell. Hard to beat that. Of course, some jerks dismiss the pre-Super Bowl era like it was nothing.
I gotta say, feel like the Bills might have the deepest RB room in this list. OJ and Thurman are clear workhorses but when you look at the honorable mentions of Shady, Marshawn, McGahee, and even Travis Henry and Frank Gore, it’s insane how much talent they’ve had at RB.
It’s gonna take a lot more than just skill and momentum for those who are worthy enough to potentially surpass both Emmitt Smith (18,355 total rush yards) and Walter Payton (16,726 total rush yards) on the all-time list!
It will never happen now. Backs have a shorter shelf life and the passing game is way more important today. The league designed it that way with rules changes because it results in higher scoring, higher ratings, and less dependency on positions where guys get hurt a lot. It’s a moneyball thing
@@EricStuder89 To be fair AP could've totally broke it if he didn't beat his kid to miss out on a season of his prime, and if he didn't tear up the knee and miss another season of his prime. Which is why to me he's the best running back to ever play the game (though you can make an argument for Barry imo)

Yet I never knew the record for carries was almost 500! Yes the NFL was a more run first league then. Also fewer game's.

Rickey Bell for Tampa. He was struck by disease which cut his career drastically short but I think he helped them get to the playoffs in the years when they were terrible...
Pierre Thomas played on the same teams as Bush and was better than him. I think he deserved a mention. Never a huge stats guy but a key part of the Saints winning a championship and building the early culture and offensive style under Payton and Brees. Still the best RB on screens I've ever seen.

My dad and other relatives said the same thing about Sayers. He was a force of nature. It's really a shame the Bears couldn't put together even a decent team during the Sayers/Butkus era.
No way that Joe Delaney should not have been mentioned for the Chiefs. Massive rookie year, hurt 2nd year and then tragically died drowning. He jumped into the water to save kids who were drowning even though he could not swim. An absolute hero and another what if.
Great compilation of stats. Kudos to you and your research team. I agree with your top 3 or maybe even top 5. A few changes in the mid range. I would have moved Denver up a few from 17 to around 14 if you'd have continued with the couple more short time greats with the team after Mike Anderson. Like Olandis Gary, Mike Bell, Knowson Moreno who all had 1000+ yard seasons. Then some of the earlier greats like Glen Millburn(true star at punt kickoff returns) and Gerald Wilhite. Just my opinion as a Broncomaniac! Lol. I'm sure other people will say the same with their teams. Anywho! Great job.
I thought the Rams would be one until I remembered that the Bears had a stack of Running Backs outside of Payton. Fun list... Y'all should do receivers next. Would love to see where the Saints, Colts, and Bengals place. I got either Minnesota or the 49ers as #1. I can't wait to see if I'm right
We can also count FBs as RBs as well. Kyle Juszczyk, Tom Rathman, William Floyd, Fred Beasley. John Henry Johnson should also be included as a RB...he was a St. Mary's grad as well.

I thought for sure Tennessee was gonna be #1. They've had Earl Campbell, Derrick Henry, Eddie George, and CJ2K and they're only 5th? Wild.
#5 is high. Remember that they haven’t been around for very long so nods went to teams that have been around for nearly 100 years. Can’t compete with Marion Motley, Ernie Nevers or Bronco Nagurski.
@@timothycaver3768 65 years is still a long time. They deserve to be top 2 at the very least. Chicago is overrated as usual
@@RIPdBOON😂
“Overrated as usual” - hardly!! We’ve got two of the greatest running backs in the history of the game, of which one is arguably the greatest player of all time!
@chrisvoiceactingvoiceover1431 Sure Payton was great, but Gale is overrated. You and I both know it. Bears shouldn't even be top 10.
Also I feel for Caleb Williams. Dude is walking into a disaster. I think the nail polish and lip gloss fiasco was him trying to make the Bears pass on him. Real talk lol
The Bears will be a dumpster fire until they are out of the McCaskeys hands.
@@chrisvoiceactingvoiceover1431the titans have 2 rushersthat got 2000 yards in a year the titans atleast number 2 number 3 at the worst. Derrick Henry. Chris Johnson, and Campbell and let me mention Campbell was 40 yards away from getting 2000 yards and missed 2 games
I knew the Browns would be near the top of the list. Especially glad you included the Pruitts. Mike could have been a HOFer if they had played him his first 3 years.
Marion barber was my favorite RB RIP
Holy crap, he died?! That's awful. RIP
@@tunatuna6723 Yeah like 2 years ago or so, heatstroke, sad times.
As a Cowboys fan I still rock his jersey. Also had the greatest what 2-3yrd run ever. Rip
A great Gopher from Minnesota
Dave Meggett for Giants, Ricky Bell, Tampa, and you could go super deep for the Rams with C.Gary, G. Bell, Charles White, and Cullen Bryant.
Ricky Bell👍
Ron Johnson was also excluded from the Giant category.
Joe Delaney gets a very very honorable mention at KC
I was hoping he would be mentioned, a REAL hero.
Barry Word
A shame Joe Delaney didn't make the list, he had the noblest history of any NFL RB.
Most people on ytube nowadays don't know who Joe Delaney was.
Word😞🫡
Should continue this series for every position
It’s gonna take a lot more than just skill and momentum for those who are worthy enough to potentially surpass both Emmitt Smith (18,355 total rush yards) and Walter Payton (16,726 total rush yards) on the all-time list!
Yep. If AP or Frank Gore couldn't even get within 2000 yards of Emmitt, I'd don't see that record ever being broken
That's roughly 3500-4000 yards missing on his resume. If you added the lower number of 3500 to where he finished that puts him at 18,418. Which is why to me he's the best running back to ever play the game (though you can make an argument for Barry imo)
Raiders at 22 is crazy
You missed Thomas Jones who had a brief stint with Chicago Bears rushed for over 10,000 yards.
tennessee should be way higher lol the only team with 2 2k rushers
Bills should be higher, only one of three teams with 2 10K career rushers.
Lol neither of them have trophies!!!
@@stowebrunso407 Not part of the criteria.
Ravens got 2 as well, Jamal Lewis and Derrick Henry
@@Weeman80derrick Henry never ran for 2,000 yards for the ravens, he never even ran for the ravens lmao
What an awesome list. I live how deep they went into each teams history. All the backs I know....and a few amazing backs I haven't heard of. No recency bias at all.
You've got to be kidding. For your sake, I hope that was sarcasm.
Great video I don't agree with your list but I like the content.
what are your rankings
Im just glad we get to see the rb’s every team has had , even bad teams had a guy u could root for
7:02. I am kinda shocked that the record for most carries is 492. I remember LaGarret Blount getting 300 and 290 some carries in 2 seasons and it being truly being an accomplishment, which it is. Yet I never knew the record for carries was almost 500! Yes the NFL was a more run first league then. Also fewer game's.
492 touches not carries. Including receptions
Thought Barry Word would’ve gotten a mention for KC since he was Comeback Player of the Year in 1990 with over 1000 yards rushing.
It's funny how the Cardinals are ranked so high yet have no runningbacks listed this century.
Some of these rankings are way off. The Cardinals are definitely one of them. So are the Packers and many others.
That transition from New England “onto” Cincinnati at the 10:00 mark 🤌🏻
This is an interesting list if you ask me. Top 10 looks good though.
Are receivers the next one for this type of video.
They're just gonna comment 1. 9ers 2. Everyone else.
really had Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice playing together on the same team
No its the Vikings lol
Seems like the Cowboys really had the best RB field. They didn't even mention Duane Thomas and Robert Newhouse. Cleveland could have been maybe a spot higher.
Cleveland had another great prospect coming out of college but he got sick . They made a movie abought him
Ernie Davis
@@bradleysample3246You made that up
@@HollyKost I know right? Bad enough that they claimed they had that overpowered runningback named Jim Brown. The name couldn't be any more unsubtle even if they tried, Brown? That's like the Patriots fans claiming their QB was named Tom Patriot.
And get this, the Browns fans even claimed that Brown even helped them win a title and later retired during his prime to star in a movie or something. Yeah sure!
As if NFL even existed before 1966.
But would Emmitt be able to do what he did without the O line he had?
This is the type of content I live for. Keep it up NFL throwback!
No Willie Gallimore for the bears. His career ended when he was killed in an auto accident in 1964. One of the NFL best from 1958-1963.
Rickey Bell for Tampa. He was struck by disease which cut his career drastically short but I think he helped them get to the playoffs in the years when they were terrible...
How did Reggie Bush not make the list in NO?
14th all time in rushing yards for the Saints, never cracked 600 yards in a season for them. Electric at times but not worth making the list
Pierre Thomas played on the same teams as Bush and was better than him. I think he deserved a mention. Never a huge stats guy but a key part of the Saints winning a championship and building the early culture and offensive style under Payton and Brees. Still the best RB on screens I've ever seen.
Or better question, how are the Saints ranked higher than the Bucs?
@@michaelbentley1591he was all purpose guy set the rookie record for catches. Punt return too were huge and was apart of that superbowl team. The post Katrina electricity shouldn’t be forgotten
Cause Bush wasn't a good RB...
lol that's awesome.
When we got to #4, I said to myself, "Oh, yeah. Jim Brown was one of the first ever freak-of-nature athletes to gear up for the gridiron. He was taller, bigger, stronger, and faster than anyone else on the field."
Seconds later, the narrator states that Jim Brown was simply bigger, stronger, and faster than anyone else lol
How can you not even mention Joe Delaney for the Chiefs? Great running back whose career and life were tragically cut short when he died trying to rescue three kids from drowning.
The Cowboys had Dorsett who retired as the #2 all-time rusher and Emmitt as #1.
Don’t forget Herschel who’s trade changed your franchise . I may put Dallas 1, Espescially since the 80s. I’m a 9er fan too, I’d put us top 5
Now do WR history
Bears from first to bottom 5-10 lol
Agreed
49ers should be top 5, with Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Deebo/Aiyuk and 1 season of Randy Moss
@@lelandbailey8657 Moss was only on the team for his last season, where he wasn’t nearly the player he was in his prime. But yeah.
Vikings got some dogs (Moss, Carter, Rashad, Diggs, Thielen, and JJ with Jake Reed and Anthony Carter as honorable mentions)
I enjoyed this. Y’all should do wide receivers next
Gotta be Rams and Bears at top. Has to.
Edit: Whaddya know.
Or Titans. Earl Campbell, Eddie George, Chris Johnson, Derrick Henry
The Bears shouldn't be on any NFL list, they should be relagated to the CFL.
@jennyanydots2389 the last American team to be relegated to the CFL was the old Baltimore Colts. They're also the only American team to win The Grey Cup.
They're now known as The Montreal Alouettes.
@@aarondeck7934 Well now it's time to take the Bears. Rename them the Toronto Taco Bell Dumpsters.
Not surprised its the Bears. Through ups and downs we somehow manage to usually have a very good or HOF running back and or linebacker.
2007 chargers RB room was absolutely insane, 3 insane rushers
I would love to see "Ranking EVERY Team by Their CORNERBACK History".
I'd rather see wide receiver more though. Maybe tight end maybe.
@@michael7054 I'd rather not. There is enough WR content and offensive player content throughout football history. The DB's, PARTICULARLY the CB's need some love and attention.
@@raynel8495 ok
They did wide receiver. I'd rather them do tight end next then anything else. Then cornerback though.
1:16:15
Glad to see Beattie Feathers getting some acknowledgement for being the first 1000 yd rusher in NFL history
Chiefs should be way higher, for like 25 years from Okoye to Charles we had consistent top 5 RB production. #20 is a joke
On second thought it was about 30 years because after Charles we had prime Kareem Hunt as well
Marcus Allen was not a top 5 back when he was there. Neither was Greg Hill or Donnell Bennett. Tony Richardson and Jackie battle? I don't think so.
Yes the Chiefs might have had really good production most of the time but not all the time between Okoye and Hunt....not only that but that's 25 years out of the Chiefs 70 year history and the 100 year history of the NFL.
Agree
@@scottb3034Allen was there team mvp over Montana . He was great w the Chiefs, Okoye was a NIGHTMARE, PHolmes too
@@christopherlockwood1857 Heh, Okoye was indeed a nightmare, the Nigerian Nightmare, sadly his style (and age) made his career brief. Marcus was the MVP but he was a shadow of his Raiders self with KC. Priest of course.
Id love to see a tight end video like this! Please do it!
PLEASE DO WRs, I have been waiting for videos like this forever.
This was ridiculously awsome , great great football documentary
The 1981 *AFC Rookie of the Year,* who was elected to the 1981 *Pro Bowl* during his rookie season, and is a posthumous recipient of the *Presidential Citizens Medal,* who died a tragic and selfless death, probably merited at least a mention at #20

I miss the golden ers of runningbacks - late 90s to about 2014. So glad I grew up and got to watch most of these guys play, as well as some of the best QBs of all time - Brady, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Farve, and Rodgers.
I know we all love Sweetness but the Kansas Comet was elite when he played before injuries took both his knees but when Sayers had the ball in his hands he galloped like no other
Yeah, he was a great runner!
My dad and other relatives said the same thing about Sayers. He was a force of nature.
It's really a shame the Bears couldn't put together even a decent team during the Sayers/Butkus era.
I really hope they do this for every position 🙌🏾
This is amazing
No way that Joe Delaney should not have been mentioned for the Chiefs. Massive rookie year, hurt 2nd year and then tragically died drowning. He jumped into the water to save kids who were drowning even though he could not swim. An absolute hero and another what if.
I knew my Rams would be top 3
Rams should’ve been #1
@@YourBoyJohnny94fax
@@YourBoyJohnny94 Nah, bears smoke them.
Anywho! Great job.
Cowboys should be 1 no question!!!
Bears own them.
I thought the Rams would be one until I remembered that the Bears had a stack of Running Backs outside of Payton. Fun list...
Y'all should do receivers next. Would love to see where the Saints, Colts, and Bengals place. I got either Minnesota or the 49ers as #1. I can't wait to see if I'm right
Disagree with the rankings but this is a cool series. Nice idea!
what ranks needed to be changed
It's hard to say how they're ranked for the video, and how age of the franchise is factored in.
I thought the ravens should’ve been a little higher
We can also count FBs as RBs as well. Kyle Juszczyk, Tom Rathman, William Floyd, Fred Beasley. John Henry Johnson should also be included as a RB...he was a St. Mary's grad as well.
Woah! No Ahmad Bradshaw on the giants? Crazy how they didn't even mention the dynamic duo between thunder and lightning jacobs and bradshaw
Tiki better than both
17:35 man, that red jersey n helmets duo are the all time greatest imo
Not a Patriots fan, but gosh they had some fun backs to watch. The Law Firm with Danny Woodhead will remain one of my favorite tandems. Sprinkle in a little Laurence Maroney too while your at it. Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Shane Vereen, and even Steven Ridley.
Lies
Craig James gave NE a couple fun seasons, too
Rhamondre Stevenson will be one of those good players as well!
No Larry centers mention. Feel like he deserved it for the cardinals
He was a fullback, wasn't he??
@yourdaddy6030 , I'm only halfway through the video. There are already a couple FBs listed - Alstott, John L. Williams,
Fully agree!
On the 49ers never mentioned Tom Rathman great FB who blocked for Craig. Buffalo forgot to mention Cookie Gilcrest, Wrey Carlton 8th all time in Franchise History and had 29 rush TDs and Antwain Smith who in only 3 years ran fir 2932 yrds 26 TDs and scored on a 99 yard run.
My favorite football position. Surprised to see my Patriots at #28. Our history at the position is far from illustrious and Curtis Martin barely counts. He's a Jet.
