You left out the AFC Championship game between the Chargers and Raiders in 1980. The Chargers had won the division at 11-5. Five teams were 11-5 in the AFC, so tie breakers decided all the playoff seedings. The Raiders were also 11-5 and became the first wild card to win the Super Bowl. The Chargers won the division because of better net points in division games!
The Patriots gained like 5 rivalries when they got good: Ravens, Colts, Giants, Chiefs, Steelers, etc, on top of some very strong rivalries in-division
The Broncos beat the Patriots more times in the playoffs than any team and you put chiefs and steelers who never beat them in the post season lmao. Probably started watching football in 2018
Really underrated rivalry that doesn’t get mentioned a lot, Ravens-Titans. Back before division realignment, as a Ravens fan I hated Jeff Fisher and the Titans. Rivalry still continues even after realignment as the teams have met 5 times in the playoffs with the road team winning every time.
That has been a lowkey intense rivalry. Since that 2000 season, they've been locking horns in the trenches ever since and their playoff battles have always been personal. Now the flame gets fanned again w Derrick Henry signing w BMore and can possibly win a ring. Thats gonna really bother Titans fans and organization.
Missed Dolphins-Bills. This is the biggest reason Miami always remained in the AFC East through multiple realignments, Bills influential owner Ralph Wilson reportedly insisted Miami remained in the same division as Buffalo. Started with Miami winning 20 consecutive games against the Bills the entire decade of the 1970’s, then the Jim Kelly Bills of late 80’s/90’s standing in the path of Dan Marino’s Dolphins year after year. This took a back seat for a while with the Patriots owning the AFC East for two decades, but recently the rivalry has gotten back on track with Josh Allen owning a rising dolphins team (for now) but expecting the return of epic clashes in the very near term. There are fights between players nearly every game, sometimes players and fans (see Cox, Brian), even the climates are the most diametrically opposed…frostbite vs heatstroke. Good to see this back and a new generation of fans poised to continue the tradition.
Some of the shit that went down between Dolphins and Bills fans during the Kelly-Marino years is the kind of stuff that'd make football hooligans blush. Remember hearing plenty of stories from my dad and uncle about how Bills fans would make it a goal to figure out where the Dolphin fans would be staying, and they'd make it a goal to fuck with them through fireworks. One story I cannot confirm nor deny was Bills fans sending a garbage can few hundred feet into the air with fireworks... Right next to a hotel where Fins fans were staying.
The biggest one you missed was 49ers-Raiders rivalry. The fanbases genuinely hated each other and the nfl had to ban preseason games between them because of how violent it got.
This is a fact. Im a Niner fan, my ex is a Raiders fan. Long story short she broke my nose with a bottle of Tapatio when the Niners lost the superbowl vs the ravens all because I might have said the Raiders sucked, Therre's just a violent hatred between our fanbases.
Giants v 49ers is a GREAT rivalry that often gets overlooked. They've had memorable, HARD HITTING games in the reg season and playoffs. And it's lasted generations--GREAT games in the 80s, early 90s, 2000s, and 2010s
Also the Giants ended Montana’s 49er career which led to Steve Young taking over & Montana going to the Chiefs where he had success there. Btw, the Chiefs have a history of success with former 49er re-tread quarterbacks Montana, Elvis Grbac, and Alex Smith.
@@MrRight-ft9epthe 49ers also ended the careers of Phil Simms and Lawrence Taylor in that 1993 playoff game. A 44-3, beatdown when Ricky Watters scored 5 tuddies.
@@danjacobsen7645 I think the argument mostly is based in the playoffs. Vikings losing the chance to go to the Superbowl in 09 is the only time the Vikings lost the playoff matchup, but as a result the Vikings have done a good job at dampening the hopes of New Orleans fans in the other 4 showdowns. I don't really think its a rivalry but I could understand a Saints fan being upset by the Brees era only ending with one ring considering some of the good teams they had near the end of his career, especially when one of those losses was as painful as the one involving Diggs. Other then that I'm not really certain what pushes the rivalry argument so again for me personally I don't see it. That argument holds up as much as the Panthers and Seahawks and I think they have more of a legitimate claim to a rivalry in that same dept.
The Seahawks/49ers and Ravens/Steelers have been my two favorite rival games over the past 10-12 years. Both have put up some of the most fun football you could hope for.
My Dad raised me a Steelers fan and I've been one since I could watch football. I was born to hate Cleveland and since Ravens came along I hate them as well. The early 2000's Steelers vs Ravens was brutal.
@@shadowoftsushima7942 Hate is a very powerful word, if you didn't have rivals You would be playing yourselves every weekend. I'm a Seahawk and Cowboy fan how do you think I feel about the Steelers? I don't like them but I don't hate them.

Yep, same here. I have always liked the Ravens/Steelers matchup because it was really the old school Browns and the Ravens brought some pain to Pittsburgh. The SF thing is more about their fans, in 2002 those fans were constantly predicting blowouts of the Hawks because of SB wins that took place, 10-20 years previously. Then the Hawks went on a tear both with Hasselbeck and Wilson
Absolutely unacceptable that Bills-Dolphins isn’t covered here. From Miami’s 20 game win streak, the Kelly-Marino shootouts of the 90’s, the iconic Bills rally cry of “Squish the fish,” to the rivalry finally heating up again as both teams are now division contenders, and not to mention the fact that it’s been an uninterrupted, twice-a-year series since 1966!
Honestly, those two teams along with the Jets were overshadowed by the Patriots for 20 plus years. I'm not a fan of any team in that division, and I can tell you that supposed rivalry didn't matter.
The fact that Sherman goes to San Fran was crazy, plus, I'm a huge niners fan, that loss hurt vs Seattle. And who could forget the 2019 sunday night football game, where, as we niner fans call him "Big Play Dre", gets the stop and the half yard line and gives us the 1 seed.
That 2017 game in San Fran as well was a banger, a back and forth affair. One of the rare nights Clowney showed what he could truly be in the league beyond stat sheet. Seattle looked to be driving, San Francisco picks off Wilson. Then San Frans kicker, who'd been doing it all night, just utterly shanked that football via commentators curse. Last 3 seconds or so Seattle kicks a field goal in OT for the win. What a game.
As a packers fan, the 2018 game where Aaron went out with an injury and came back in down 17 points and hobbled around to beat the Bears is one of the most iconic moments still. Wish it was included. Great video.
Bills dolphins in the 90s was something special. Kelly, marino, shula, levy. 4 playoff games between them, including a 1992 afc championship game. It was lopsided in the 70s, but since 1987, it's been buffalo's rivalry
@@bigdrew0025 playoff games between the 2 teams. The games are usually competitive, and now, the dolphins are good again, just like the bills, so it'll keep getting better
I (Eagles fan) have 2 best friends who are Niners and Cowboys fans respectively. The rivalry is fierce between us three. That’s what makes football so enjoyable.
My brother is an egales fan and I’m a cowboys fan and my youngest brother is a giants fan, this past year when the cowboys blew up the giants 40-0 me and my eagle fan Brother made fun of my youngest brother so hard and than the egales beat the cowboys and than the next time the eagles in cowboys met the cowboys won, last season was a great season to have rival family
The Pittsburgh Steelers used to be division rivals with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans (Houston Oilers) before those two teams represent the AFC South! The Steelers and Titans/Oilers had some playoff moments and fights not just the players but the coaches! As for the Jaguars there were some crazy games including a couple times in the playoffs!
Everyone in the NFC East hates each other. Everyone hates Dallas the most cause they're annoying. New York, Philly and Washington can talk trash to each other but they all root for the others to beat Dallas
Lifetime Cowboys fan here… For years I’ve thought, “Weren’t the Cardinals in the NFC East with the Cowboys? Where’d they go…” I was too lazy to look it up but now I know… thanks for the vid!
I was 6 years old when the Jets beat the Pats in the divisional round, it is one out of 10 memories I still have from that early in my life. The Pats beat us so often that one of my core memories is us upsetting them in the playoffs, that is the best way I can describe the misery of being a Jets fan. Granted it is one of the greatest upsets in post-season history so it is pretty memorable to begin with.
The AFC is getting some rivalries by skill now. Chiefs/Bengals is starting some bad blood, and Chiefs/Bills is starting to pick up though that one isn't showing as bad of blood as the former.
I tink there are two Washington rivalries that deserve mention: 1. The Skins and the Bears played in many a championship game back in the day, including the infamous 73-0 game. There have been some memorable moments in recent games as well. 2. While probably not as notable, due to proximity of the two teams they may be developing a slight rivalry with Baltimore as well. In the "Battle of the Beltways", there generally is a matchup every preseason and they have had some classic regular season games as well. And with the recent Ravens-Commanders joint practices followed by WSH breaking the preseason win streak for the ravens, there may be some bad blood brewing in this one as well.
49ers-Seahawks was a great rivalry for those few years. You had Harbaugh-Carroll hating each other going back to their Stanford-USC days. Great defenses. For the 2013 NFC Championship, San Francisco rock radio stations refused to play any Grunge music (which originated in Seattle) for the whole week leading up to the game. San Francisco-Seattle even seem to be rivals as cities.
I distinctly remember that there was some hesitation, in 2002, by Seattle fans for moving into the NFC. They were afraid of losing that rivalry with Oakland. Some said, "Hey, maybe we'll have one with the 49ers." Yes. Yes you will lol
My most painful moment was when Antonio brown extended the ball across the goal line to beat us on Christmas in 2016. That shit broke my heart. Also the Ravens-Titans rivalry was left out
Back in the day, the Raiders /Seahawks rivalry was a good one. Remember the Monday Night Football Game Bo Jackson vs Brian Bosworth. They also played the 1983 AFC Championship Game against each other.
I enjoy this so much! Really fun and full of great NFL footage and interviews that I haven't seen in years particularly the Pats and Fins snowplow game!
That Steelers/Ravens rivalry from the late 90s up until the early 2010’s was awesome. I remember going to a home game in 2009 riding the clipper in pitt. Boat full of ravens fans pulled up waving a flag, I have never seen so many beer bottles and miscellaneous stuff thrown at someone before. Was always intense and fans would throw down sometimes. Violently. Lol
As a Chargers fan, I feel our only true rival has ever been the Raiders. It always meant something a little bit more to beat the Raiders than any other team, the win against them was always a tiny bit sweeter than against other teams. When the teams were both in California, that made it even more intense. Not as historic or prolific as some of these other rivalries, but again the Raiders, to me, will always be the Chargers' truest rival.
I think that's a fair assessment. No disrespect, but I think the chargers generally fly under the radar. Nothing explosive stands out to me, but I don't closely follow them to be fair.
@@SVdreamin That all time record looked INSURMOUNTABLE when I was a kid in the 80s. We done passed it years ago already lol. It's more of a prisoner/jailor relationship since Favre showed up... over 30 years ago.
This is super in-depth, yet there's still a lot I wish was here. Hate to critique something that is so polished and extensive, but feels worth mentioning a few things: The lifetime win record for each pairing seems like an obvious miss. Would've loved to know the most lopsided among division rivals (and a mention of the Jets never beating the Eagles) Ice Bowl for Cowboys-Packers. Tomlin-Harbaugh is the longest matchup of two HCs, both with the same team. Some "extinct" rivalries: This briefly touched on Oilers-Steelers, but theres a lot of history there. Also, Titans-Ravens was *spicy* in the late '90s/early '00s.
Yes, a video on extinct rivalries would be a lot of fun, I remember a lot of beef between the Seahawks and both the Broncos and the Raiders, especially when the Seahawks had the Boz. Also, the Brett Favre-Warren Sapp games were a lot of fun.
I have been a Ravens fan my whole life and nothing quite compares to the days where we have to play against the Steelers. I would say the rivalry is so damn intense mainly because Philly is not to far from Maryland, and a lot of people on both sides of the Mason-Dixon root for each team. It never disappoints though. Some great games have been played by those two teams. And a lot of the time you can sit down with a Steelers fan and banter back and forth with them in the room with you lmao
Another thing is the last game is always in December when it’s cold and it’s usually to decide who goes to the playoffs which is why it’s ranked on top ten rivalries
Ravens fan your whole life, what are you 20 something? Kid the Chickens suck! Art stole our team, committed treason and he was never safe coming back to his hometown after that. The Chickens look like a team from some fictional movie, an absolute choke!! Don't care that the Chickens won a SB, you guys suck!!
I'm a Bengals fan, but truly look forward to seeing them clash, every time it seems it is gonna be a classic. Plus we know that seeing how Baltimore and Pittsburgh are playing will give the Bengals a good indicator how they (the Bengals) play against the rest of the NFL--if you can handle PIT, BAL, and CLE, you should handle pratically any other team pretty good. Just my opinion.
@@chriscarter3057 that game can only be described as A hood battle you ever seen the old days of like bloods and crips where the cops might have to be called that’s what that rivalry is . Ray Lewis and Ed Reed vs Tom Brady...Each side trying to out think each other!!! Nothing but respect for all players that make it to the NFL, even those player on the Practice Squad, they are important members of ALL teams!!!
HUGE missed opportunity to talk about the Ravens Titans rivalry started when they were both in the AFC central together and matched up in the playoffs 4 times in their short histories. Ray Lewis vs Eddie George; then reignited in 2019 - 2021 w Malcom Butler's pregame logo meeting and Marcus Peters Interception and logo dance.
Surprised you forgot 2019 49ers Seahawks and 2021 chargers raiders in the rivalry moments as they were the last rivalry games. Both games affected the playoff picture and were very memorable
The Bears and Packers history is incredibly intertwined too. Both franchises helped each other survive at different points. Its become more of a sibling rivalry. There is no modern NFL without the Bears and Packers, without Halas, Lombardi, etc. I expect a lot more competition in the years ahead.
I'd also add Vikings vs Saints rivalry too, whether it be the first playoff game, NFC Championship game in '09 (Bountygate), Minneapolis Miracle, 2019 Wild Card Game, Kamara's 6 TD game
"They met again in the postseason in 1981, 49ers winning that bout.' That's all you have to say about that game, and you don't even show "The Catch?" Enjoyed the video, but that was the defining moment of the Cowboys-49ers rivalry, maybe of the 1980s NFL in general, and deserved more than one sentence.
Broncos were never relevant at the same time as Chiefs. not much rivalry there besides being in same division, which chiefs have owned them forever in.
@@safwanmalik3That is SO not true. It was a great rivalry with Elway and Manning went 7-1 against the Chiefs. Even Tebow won against them. They were dead even at 55 wins against each other before this streak that Kansas City has gone on.

A pretty fun side story about the Packers-Bears rivalry is that the NBA team that became the Washington Wizards started its existence in Chicago. In an ode to the city's meatpacking history, they decided to name the team... the Packers. Suffice to say, the city did not take that name well. They tried renaming themselves the Zephyrs the next season, but the city never forgave them, and thus they moved out after just 2 years in Chicago. Suppose it's a lesson not to mess with rivalries.
How could you leave out Dolphins/Bills? Bills finally ending the 0-for-the 1970's drought in 1980 opener in Buffalo, which helped propel the Bills to their first division title since 1966. Then came Kelly vs. Marino from 86-96. Somehow the Bills forgot they played in Miami from 87-94 - won 8 out of 9 meetings at Rich Stadium South (including the 92 AFC Championship).
Right. Literally the rivalry most Bills fans considered the most important. Granted that's to older generations but why put on the Jets and leave out the Fins.
I don't think any rivalries have been very violent like the 49ers Raiders Bay Area rivalry especially when the fans take it too far and turned violent and deadly.
Probably one of the only few rivalries that was BANNED in recent memory. Preseason rivalry was banned in 2011 and stood for 10 years until they brought it back in 2021. Crazy times

I will forever remember those words said by Pat Summerall: "There will be no three-peat". Just hurts to hear that.

Great video. The Saints/Falcons rivalry is bigger than people realize and another underrated rivalry is Saints/Vikings
As a Vikings fan saints Vikings is not even close to being a rivalry. Where did you come up with that?

Don't forget Bryan Cox's two finger salute to the Rich Stadium fans in '93.
Bills fans fs hate the fish more than the jets lmao, it's always 1 sided in the jets games

The AFC is getting some rivalries by skill now. Chiefs/Bengals is starting some bad blood, and Chiefs/Bills is starting to pick up though that one isn't showing as bad of blood as the former.
I tink there are two Washington rivalries that deserve mention:

There have been some memorable moments in recent games as well. 2. While probably not as notable, due to the proximity of the two teams they may be developing a slight rivalry with Baltimore as well. In the "Battle of the Beltways", there generally is a matchup every preseason and they have had some classic regular season games as well. And with the recent Ravens-Commanders joint practices followed by WSH breaking the preseason win streak for the Ravens, there may be some bad blood brewing in this one as well. This upload about rivalries is worth a 2-hour watch. Another great gem from this channel.
At 30 minutes in,still waiting for Vikings to com into picture. Thought about jumping
forward but such an interesting do couldn't do it! Love this.
2 hrs? God I love NFL Throwback ❤
No Bills-Dolphins? Definitely a bigger rivalry than Bills-Jets.
They left off the biggest Pats Dolphins game ever too, the 85 Championship game that saved the Bears from facing the one team they lost to
Yeah I was surprised it wasn’t there considering that Buffalo and Miami would have brawls in the 80’s-90’s and Bryan Cox absolutely hated us. Maybe it’s that Marv and Shula weren’t cantankerous enough for them to consider it a rivalry
Right? That's a top 10 rivalry if we're talking division matchups
@@ck-1649come on now, top 10? Most fans dont even know they have any rivalry beyond being in the same division
@@ck-1649 the Bryan Cox bird was a defining moment in the rivalry, a little surprised the Bills Oilers weren’t on the list either because Ralph Wilson and Bud Adams despised each other, in fact they traded middle fingers at the music city forward lateral game
As a Colts fan, thank you for including the rivalry with the Patriots. It isn't even a fraction of what it was anymore, but growing up in Indianapolis in the mid-late 2000s, I was told that I had to hate Tom Brady. The hatred was everywhere throughout the city. We also just don't have that kind of fire with our division with how young it is, and with the fact that, as a division, we are a common 4th seed in the playoffs with no wild card representatives.
Maybe the most significant moment in this rivalry came after Peyton Manning left. This is the rivalry that gave us "Deflategate".
Completely agree. They said it, Manning vs Brady is easily the best player rivalry ever. To the point that it sparked the team rivalry because they always kept each other from the Superbowl.
Then there's Deflategate, which us Colts fans love to try to make importance out of, even though they scored MORE on us AFTER it 2as discovered and replaced 🤣
Manning vs Brady where great games
You gotta love how special it is that 2 opposing quarterbacks get their own special section and are the only specific player v player to make the list.
This video is incredible.
There’s so many good rivalry I can’t put names. I LOVE RIVALRYS
Patriots vs Ravens was a great matchup and very underrated
Yeah Steelers and Patriots was better because we hate TB12 reason why we don’t have 7 rings
Giants-Niners. Huge playoff matchups over the years. Leonard Marshall knocking out Montana in 1990 nfc championship. Ask any player from those teams from that era who they hated most. It was the most All-Madden matchup of all time, every time. Rivalry continued with the crazy 49er comeback in 2002 playoffs. Throw in the 2011 overtime classic NFC championship too.
I am surprised you left out in the Da-lWas rivalry. the 1974 Thanksgiving game when Washington knocked out Staubach and Clint Longley came in and led an epic comeback.
Bills vs Dolphins?
One of the most heated ones in the division especially when Kelly and Marino was around. Now revamped the past 3 seasons.
