  • Corinne Dufour, secretary to Hugo Drax, gets fired and is subsequently eaten by dobermans.
One of the roughest deaths for a Bond woman....especially one as sweet Corrine.
    Great music by John Barry!

    This scene is haunting
    She never screams.
    The dogs never bark.
Theres only the music, the sound of her running, and the chase.
Imagine if the whole movie had been so brilliantly directed? Instead we got the double taking pigeon.

exactly what i was thinking. this movie could have been so much better if they cut more scenes out and replaced them with more of the darker scenes like when Bond was in the centrifuge, this scene, and the end scene that was very intense. the plot was actually pretty good but because they had to add their silliness to it. sometimes having dark movies aren't bad.

This is a perfect example of film scoring at it's best. It's not an "action cue" in the sense that it doesn't go with the action, but with the feeling of impending death, which is more subtext and adds a layer to the scene that otherwise would be missing.

    • @Mrpastry909
      @Mrpastry909 4 года назад +13

Barry could've made it a generic fast, intense chase score, but keeping the music slow and menacing helps the viewer feel Corinne's fear as death approaches.

That ominous 4 note structure is taken from the Dies irae chant, which in the Traditional Catholic rite, is sung at the Requiem Mass (funerals). It has been used in many film scores as a musical shorthand for impending doom.

There are a few reasons why this is the most horrifying death by animal in a James Bond film: 1. Dogs are all around us in our life, it could happen to us. Just to keep this clear:
    a) You can`t escape in a golf cart. It`s like 10 mph. The dog easily can run with a speed of 30 mph.
    b) You saw these tress? I bet you can`t climb on one of that
    c) Yes, dogs can kill you and they will for some reasons. Everything can kill you. Don`t be so naive! :D

  • @daemonkilla

this movie could have been so much better if they cut more scenes out and replaced them with more of the darker scenes like when Bond was in the centrifuge, this scene, and the end scene that was very intense. the plot was actually pretty good but because they had to add their silliness to it. sometimes having dark movies aren't bad.

A great, but very out of place scene in Moonraker. We're at the point now where the Bond films are basically at their peak in terms of cheese and light, goofy fun, and this scene seems like it would fit better in FYEO or even License To Kill, not a borderline sci-fi self-parody.

That's a very terribly barbaric scene of 'Moonraker' where the no-good Hugo Drax sends his dobermans to kill a beautiful Bond woman in the forest. It seems to me that this scene is similar to the scene of 'The Lion King' where Scar killed Mufasa at the nearly end of the stampede of Wildebeests.
I did prefer an unlikely partnership between James Bond and Holly Goodhead in 'Moonraker' during shots in Venice, Rio and the incredible space shuttle. That's excitingly better than Corrine Dufour's terrible death scene.
