    I’ve owned Corollas, Land Cruisers, and 4Runners. I still own a 4Runner 3rd gen & 80 series Land Cruiser. I have to say the 4Runner is the most practical & reliable vehicle. Cost of maintenance is also low

    • @justahumbledude
      @justahumbledude 4 месяца назад +1

      Ofc the 4Runner is a dinosaur....but here's the thing....reliability was the old school Toyota. Sure, you can wait for all the whiz bang technical updates and overall design in the 25 4Runner, but at the cost of the turbo injected 4cyl engines that have really started out with a "bang"---and that wasn't a compliment. I bought the 24 Camry v6 just because I wanted a naturally aspirated engine above 4cyl.....I'm ok with hybrid....without a turbo injected engine. I also have a 24 RAV4 Hybrid and it's perfect. These are midsize vehicles that aren't doing anything fancy.
      In short, these "tank" vehicles and trucks that are meant for REAL tasks and off-roading are all going to suffer, because Toyota prioritized Government rebates over providing the consumer what they want.

    I would stick with this 5th Gen 4Runner. At least you know what you’re getting; honest bulletproof reliability and pure ruggedness in the naturally aspirated V6 engine. A Ford, Jeep and Chevrolet will be in the shop all the time. Keep the oil changed in the Toyota 4Runner and you’re golden for hundreds of thousands of miles plus their high resale value is unmatched.
    I’ll wait to hear reviews from those who choose the new 6th Gen 2025 model with the turbo 4, but I still believe if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.

    • @O-PAC
      @O-PAC 6 месяцев назад +5

      Yes this 5th gen is the one to go with. That 4.0 has proven itself and I wish Toyota would keep it as an engine option on the 6th gen 4Runner and the 4th generation Tacoma so people have other options. Maybe just add a gear box with more gears for fuel efficiency and better power band. The new tundra proved to be a big disappointment with its turbo wastegate issues at less than 3k miles and one dude driving his home from the dealership to find his rear axle was broken. Good looking truck but again I wish the V8 was an option there. Now I’m already seeing videos with a new Tacoma breaking its front diff on an easy obstacle and another guy already taking his to the shop because his check engine light already came on. I grew up with Toyotas but these aren’t exactly inspiring confidence in the new redesigns. Which is a shame because they look good. People like to talk smack about the American brands but my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been more reliable than my wife’s 2015 Toyota Corolla. Her car has been in the shop 3 times just in the last 4 months versus the 0 times my Jeep has in 5 years. And I off road the Jeep in the mountains of Colorado and Utah. My dad has a 2017 Chevy 3/4 ton that he takes up to the mountains as well and it’s got 220k miles with no issues. I want to replace the Corolla with a 4Runner TRD Pro but the price point right now needs to come down a bit, which I don’t see happening.

    • @johncarter8688
      @johncarter8688 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@O-PAC Fair point. My dig at the other car makers is based upon over all track records and feedback heard from a lot of previous owners. Any vehicle is going to run well as long as you take care of it. Also every car manufacturer is going to have its outliers right?
      I just had a friend of mine that was having electrical problems out of his 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD that he bought brand new last year. He kept getting the run around at the dealership he purchased it from and ended up trading it for a new one at a different Chevrolet dealership. Now you know the 2023 models were $55 -$60K brand new and that’s being modest. The 2024 models are in the $70K range. You would expect a basic level of reliability for a vehicle that costs that much with hardly any miles on it.
      I guess I’m just partial to Toyota and Subaru specifically because they are car brands known for their consistency when it comes to reliability and maintaining high resale value. Are they all perfect? No, but you know what I’m getting at. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and what you’re willing to pay for.
      As far as trying to get your hands on a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro, I’m with you. You need to shop around a lot not only at dealership’s in your home state but outside as well. Just inquire what their out the door prices are (including all taxes, fees and add-ons) and see how far they are willing to negotiate. I can tell you from experience they aren’t as inclined to come off too much. The TRD Pro are in limited supply because Toyota only builds 2000-3000 units per year. Based upon dealer allocations some get 1, 2 or maybe 3 if they are lucky while some won’t get any TRD Pro on their lots
      The dealerships in my home state were way above market so I did a search in a 500 mile radius at border states and found ones who were willing to negotiate and come off of some of the add-ons. They still charged MSRP but just no mark-ups. When the dealerships at home called back to inquire about whether I was still looking for one I asked if they could beat the other out the door price offersI found at out of state dealers including the tax for my home state and none of them could. One came within $1K but couldn’t beat it. That was the litmus test. None of the dealerships I found were willing to go under MSRP or below invoice for a TRD Pro but you never know you may find that one hidden gem of a dealership.
      I’m highly skeptical about the new twin turbo 4 cylinder even more so now after what you said about the new Tacomas. I’ll wait until they work out the kinks and any recalls in the 2025 models and beyond with the turbo V4. Redesign the vehicle fine but if the V6 engine has a proven record for reliability leave it the hell alone. Try to improve the gas mileage and emissions but otherwise don’t mess with it.

    I know what I would do, I picked up a new 5th gen last fall. All the upgraded safety I could need, old school Toyota durability and the product of 15 years of continuous refinement. In America we embrace this throw away culture and the desire to be seen in the fanciest, newest thing, with the most fashionable new technology that you don’t really need. If you want a fashion accessory and be part of the latest cool fad there are better options, if you don’t care about image or social status, and like to use 4wd’s hard, this is the last true good one IMHO. There is a reason there are people in the industry that proclaim this is the best vehicle currently in production from a quality and reliability stand point.

The 4runner is the most durable, reliable and overbuilt new car for sale in the US period. 400,000+ miles is no problem for these vehicles at all with regular oil changes and routine maintenance. The Bronco will be lucky to hit 125k miles without major problems and a dozen shop visits for repairs along the way.

    You bring up many true points about the 24 4Runner but I'm glad I got mine. I'm not a fan of small displacement turbo engines. And as a dealership mechanic for 30 years, I learned that buying a first generation vehicle is a bad idea. They typically have a lot of early teething problems. Yeah, my 4Runner is a bit of a pig on acceleration and not the best on gas, but I couldn't be happier with it. I'm almost 68. This should last as long as I do.

    I can live with a lot of what some consider to be negatives (though I consider them to be positives) for $30,000 less. I like no stop/start, I like a 4x4 shift lever instead of electronic buttons or dials, I like less tech, I like buttons, knobs and levers instead of having to do it all from a touchscreen, I like a simple naturally aspirated engine that runs on 87 octane and a simple transmission I can rely on, etc. I like being able to do my own maintenance and being able to work on my car without having a PhD in engineering or computers software. I can buy a lot of fuel for 30K and I bet I can go 99.999% of the places a new Bronco, LC or 4Runner will be able to while spending less on insurance, taxes and registration. I'll be keeping my 5th gen for quite some time, thank you.

    Everything else out there is going to those crummy trubo 4cyl engines many with the rubber band CVT transmissions. The fate of the 2025 4 Runner is the crummy 4 cyl turbo engine also. Four cylinder engines in 4000 lb 2/3 row SUV's is because of the handful of morons in the EPA. Who the heck would buy a $55K vehicle before loan interest, taxes etc and be obsessed about mileage? The first out of warranty problem negates all gas mileage savings for life of vehicle. You can't fix anything on these turbo, hybrid, computer electronics driven nightmares for less than $1200.

    I just bought a 2024 4runner with no regrets. Ford quality has taken a nosedive and this rig is legendary off road and that's the sole reason I bought it. I have another vehicle for my everyday driver. Toyota has a lot of new stuff launching which is great but none of it has 10 years worth of data to back it up. My dinosaur? The book has been written!

      No comparison in terms of durability and reliability with the 4Runner vs. the Bronco. Broncos are overpriced money traps for people who enjoy paying $10k over sticker for a Ford and relish sitting in the service lobby every 6 months or more! Any 4Runner will outlive a similar model year Bronco by at least 10 years!

    Interesting from a none 4Runner Subject Matter Expert. The true top dog 4Runner is 100% built in Japan. The TRD Pro is finished assembled at a US port where the subjective feel Fox Equipment is installed. Get your hands on a TRD Off Road Premium equipped with KDSS & take it out for a spin. This is true aged perfection & not a Turbo that’s a disposable engine. Literally the unibody body deposable car/truck in an engine. The 6th Gen 4Runners with the turbo will be suited for the deposable lease crowd. The 5th is the long term problem free ownership crew with the 2024 out of Japan being the best one of them all.

    I have a problem. In 2016, I bought my 4runner brand new. Had a rock hit the windshield in 2017- replaced the windshield immediately at the Toyota dealer I got it from. Fast forward to Dec 2023... battery died...replaced it. Feb 2024 had to be towed and replace an air injection driver (i think thats what they called it). July -dead battery again, tested/ replaced. Aug replaced battery a third time and had to replace air injection driver I think again in Aug...and kept asking them to check wires for corrosion since I noticed rust on the body above the windshield. Now...this past w/e alarms going off middle of the night and the DTR lights were on despite switch in off position. Battery dead again...finally they witnessed the light issue and believed me when I said it is an electrical issue and my gut tells me it's related to the rust...and it is (have been saying that for 2 mos). They now want $13,000 to replace the wire harness. Showed me pix of water that is leaking into the wires from the windshield, not visible before they removed the dash panel. That's 13k for the parts that may take weeks to come in and labor. Does not include a new windshield or fixing the rust above it. I work from home and only have 41k miles on my truck and it was purchased w cash so no payments. I love my truck and wanted to keep it as long as I could still drive (I'm 59). I don't want a payment or a new vehicle. How do I know this is really what's needed or are there other options? Is it worth the money to fix? The carfax emails I get say my trade in would be worth 21k- before this problem. Idk how accurate those are though. Any ideas or advice would be great. I got a Toyota to avoid this kind of thing. I have never missed any of the maintenance on it. And btw...my dad works at FORD x30yr. Ironic.
