‘There’s no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism’ well, if you can afford a 300$+ shein haul, you can definitely afford to buy ethically
Yeah, or just don't buy at all if not needed
@@Justcetriyaart Exactly, before I even buy internationally I usual do a thorough research if there is someone that sells locally first.
For real people who are working class aren’t the problem it’s those who buy 300 $ hauls and people who can’t afford clothes are the scape goats these massive hauls results in people throwing their clothes away once it’s no longer trendy where as a person who doesn’t have another option will keep that clothing item even after it not trendy
but what about people who can't afford that? what are we supposed to do?
@@ozge8262 there are always cheap, ethical, and fashionable clothes around these days. That can't be used as an excuse anymore.
I just think there is no way that these big influencers have no idea that Shein is so bad for the environment. You can't avoid it, the issue has been addressed and you'd have to be blind to miss it. So I believe at this point they just don't care because it's cheap and accessible. Crazy thing is that you'd probably save money in the long run by purchasing higher quality more expensive items that will last longer. And they can definitely afford to if they're doing $1000 Shein hauls.
The problem aren’t people who order from SHEIN - now I think of people who are normal and are working or studying, and can’t afford to put a lot of money into one piece of clothing/thing. The problem here are exactly these influencers, whom order clothing and things from SHEIN worth $500-$1000 or more and just don’t ever wear it again and throw it right away. That’s the problem.
Not to mention you'd be able to resell higher quality items, depending on what the item is you could even get more money for it in the long run. But these girls buying huge shein hauls will never get their money back, they'll just be out $500 forever
And SHEIN has way more lead on their clothes than allowed, so bad for your health!
I completely agree with you
@@Artemiela would also add that just paying more for things doesn't mean quality nor ethic/sustainable. Point is, we should over consume just to trash it
The one and only question I ask myself when it comes to dressing is: "if I were a cartoon characters and this would be my only outfit, would I be happy?"
ok that's a golden rule i will now adopt
oooh nice one!
Omg thats genius thank you for sharing!!
I love how ur mind works
i usually ask myself "will people call me a sect?" (will they yell emo/sect across the street) or "do i look gay enough" and if the answer is yes, the outfit is a banger
I will admit, as someone who is more interested in alternative fashion, I don’t understand why anyone feels the need to follow trends that they’re never gonna like/wear in the long term. Isn’t that the easiest way to have a sense of style that ages like milk? Don’t you instead want to cultivate an aesthetic that’s personal to you?
I second this!
i agree with you! ive been dressing the way i dress now since 2017 and havent followed trends since then. not shaming anyone who follows trends because trends are fun! but i just cant understand wanting to follow every single trend and be exactly like all these other people. especially now with all these micro trends, doesnt it just seem like a waste? isnt it more worth it to just wear what you want whether its a trend or not?
I feel like a lot of people who buy from Shein and such brands are not people interested in fashion, they’re just looking for clothes to fit in the mold of society. (Without realizing it themselves of course )
I think that this is because fashion is far from their priority or center of interest. I noticed this in a few friends of mine !
And I agree 100% with you 🤍
I agree. As someone who grew up homeschooled I never really had or have any pressure to look like everyone else and wear what everyone else is wearing. I watch the trends come and go and maybe I'll buy a few trendy items but only because I like them and they go with my own style. I just hate how fast fashion and trends have made everyone conform to wearing the same things...I love to see people's personality through their style!
i also find it strange. i dress pretty alternative-ish, and i’ve always heard other people criticize other people’s taste for being too “basic”, which only makes me want to dress the way i do even more. idk kinda a random thought but yk
every time i see someone tip out an entire box of clothes from there a piece of my soul dies
pLEASE- my Taobao haul is bigger than this, 17 pounds
@@aygulmemet4201 can i ask why? their clothing is such garbage quality, why not just spend a little more money on less clothing... i'd rather spend 25usd on a nice shirt or two than the same amount on a bunch of ugly clothing. everytime i see shein at secondhand stores, its so easily identified by the poor quality of the material
nobody needs that amount of clothes, it’s just wasteful at that point
@@chelseaag1928 taobao is not shein, its a website with individual sellers and quality is actually pretty good! shein on the otherhand, yeah no..
Fair enough if they’ve saved up and it’s once every couple of months but it’s the people doing it weekly who don’t even have a enough days between them to wear them all that gets on my nerves
I remember there was even a time not that long ago that people were saying Shein workers were slipping in cries for help in peoples packages and it wasn't just once or twice, it was like a lot. It's so sad to think of the people that are out there working just so we can be able to purchase things and wear them. It makes me appreciate things more. Love you Zoe 💕
Wasn’t that proven to be fake
They do that with so many other companies, people behave like shein is the only company that does that.
@@kpersonal4720 Shein isn't the only company with awful working conditions, but they are one of the biggest and one of the worst.
@@kpersonal4720 but this is a shein video right? it makes sense to mention shein 🙄
thought i don’t support shein, this was proved to be fake actually. they still have extremely crappy labor hours
Sheins success is the result of people wanting to buy a lot of things and buy often. We as a society have conditioned ourselves into thinking it’s normal to get sth new to wear weekly (or daily even!). We’re destroying the planet and our finances. We’re falling for marketing like idiots to constantly spend, spend, spend.
Yes exactly ppl dont realize that they are slowly draining their money with daily purchases, its quite sad...Ppl should atleast purchase once a month or in a while to save more money in their bank accounts,
Not only that these clothes tear up fast and then you have to buy them again so it's even a waste of money and not worth anything
@Everything Of Indian Cinema. Then this comment was obiously not targeted to you specifically, my god, not everything is about you
@@thesevenkingswelove9554 so true! I’ve starting selling stuff on Depop recently (had kids and my clothes don’t fit anymore) and it’s really struck me that if you invest wisely in your clothes, firstly they look better but if you need to get rid of them you can make money back too. If you buy shein you’ve thrown your money away.
Not every people, just those with the buying power to do that. I live in a 3rd world country and most people don’t have the habit of following too many trends because we can barely afford clean water and importing from other countries is expensive even if it’s shein.
it's not even only the environmental issues, or the violation of human rights and safe workplace environments, it's also a huge concern that they are stealing designs EVERY DAY from small creators. Did anyone ever think about how the hell they manage to add so many new "styles" daily?? how in the world can anyone buy there and sleep at night without being at least a little ashamed
It's the reason why I thrift most of my clothes from local thrift stores. I never bought from SHEIN and I never will. Thrifting is not perfect, but it is the most ethical way for me to buy clothing. Human rights and protecting the environment is way more important than a piece of fabric.
@@sophiallama I’ve been thrifting since childhood lol. It’s a common thing for me atp
This! "I dont want to shame anyone who buys from Shein" Well I do! And I think it's our responsibility to do so. Shein is just fucking awful.
literally why don’t people talk about the human rights violations more!!! like WHY and HOW do you think these clothes are cheaper???
@@-correct-ok2398 You're basically shaming other people and forgetting yourself. Do you think where you shop is any better? Do you think your phone's manufacturer or anything you consume really, is any better? shaming people who use SHEIN is just hypocrisy.
I love that you don’t let ANY social trend by without addressing it! I’ve been waiting for you to do this one because this is a serious issue not only environmentally but also ethically 😕
Yes Khalilah, but it’s hard to not shop there when u don’t have money to buy at Prada or Dior
@@keimep1676 no one went as far as asking you to buy designer
@@user-hp5cf5kf8k right like why r people trying to act dense for?? 💀
@@xannahowx You probably get better quality from thrifting... or used to, at least, because these influencers are often dumping this Shein garbage at thrift stores. Unless you buy a lot of clothes, buying from H&M isn't that problematic. I have some Uniqlo items that are several years old, and will still live for many more - I don't feel bad about buying them
oh it is my 20th time seeing u on yt
I acknowledge that many people shop at Shein because they can't find garments to their taste in their size elsewhere and because their budgets don't allow them to shop sustainably. Those are totally valid reasons and people in those situations should not feel bad about it. BUT once you get into massive hauls, that's where things get grim. Overconsumption is irresponsible and inexcusable no matter who does it. As it's been said many times, we need to collectively accept outfit repeating as okay, all brands need to embrace size inclusivity, and (although it seems impossible) the trend cycle needs to chill out big time. But for real, there are valid reasons to shop at Shein, and as long as it doesn't creep into overconsumption territory, you shouldn't feel bad about it.
yes!! Also speaking as a brazilian I think people buy it because the price is way more accessible for poor people who can't afford clothes with reaally good fabric and quality. It's almost impossible to find clothes of your style and really affordable like in shein. But it's a fact that these girls of the video CAN buy better quality clothes and are just exagerating their consumerism as they change their style every 3 months
I totally agree, I use shein for things I don't want to spend too much money on or can't find locally like clothes for school performances or certain events
I completely agree. I live in a small town in Brazil and here we don't have a lot of style options for clothes and accessories. So, shopping at Shein is one of the solutions (Despite not being so cheap, since the dollar is worth five times more than the real). Despite this, it is still more worthwhile than buying in local stores, as they buy in stores in São Paulo (Which also uses labor without labor rights and cheap material)
SHEIN isn’t the only one who steals. Many high fashion brands steal A LOT too but they cover up their tracks more. My father worked for one and he was schooled with how much it stole from other brands, small businesses, and just outfits you might see anywhere. A lot of high fash brands exploit their workers too.
i heard high fashion clothes can be made in sweatshops too, and they also burn stuff that doesn't sell to protect the illusion of luxury and exclusivity. neither is really that great imo. it seems the best options are to look for smaller brands that are transparent and really care about what they're making, or buy secondhand
@@strabwerry_jam yeah but most of those aren't affordable for most people
@@ossie_3733 secondhand isn't affordable? i've bought secondhand things in great condition for shein prices.....
@@strabwerry_jam ohhh i thought you meant buying directly from smaller owned shops those tend to be expensive
@@strabwerry_jam you talking about second hand like thredup? Companies and things like that ?! Cause yeah those companies are VERY. Expensive
Another horrible thing: I am very active in the knitting/crocheting community and DAILY they're getting their designs stolen. As as if that wasn't bad enough, the artists get the backlash, not Shein! People complaining that it's what artists deserve (getting their hard work stolen) because they are not affordable as Shein.
I'm sorry but in what world will anyone sell their handmade clothes for £10 when it takes hundreds of pounds to only test and create a pattern for it, spend weeks if not months to be creative. I've seen so many people getting bullied because their price is what it SHOULD be and not a bread crumb that doesn't even cover the material price.
Edit: forgot to mention, a lot of charity/second hand shops don't want to receive Shein products because how quickly they degrade. As an example, back when I had no idea how bad it is, I got a pink crop top from them but never worse, just left it on my hanger for a few weeks if not months. One day I remembered I had it and was going to wear it BUT it became a different colour?? Some of the stitching already came off. How is this possible, can you imagine how badly it was made if I didn't touch it ONCE and it already got ruined.
it's sad, people don't care about quality nor integrity anymore
@@mistress.villaina7591 yep. I completely understand when people can't afford clothes BUT you can't expect either the artist to sell their products for bread crumbs when they have to pay for food and rent lol
I ordered a corset belt from shein once and it's so bad that I'm grateful it's so poorly constructed I can take it apart and use the poppers on a sewing project... even though they're scratched to shit from doing nothing but sitting in my closet, I'm sure I can make the shabby chic thing work...
i want to add that you have to crochet by hand. no maschine can do this (yet)
This was not my experience. SHEIN products are low quality, but if taken proper care of, they can last as long as any Zara or H&M piece of clothing. I have had a SHEIN jumper for 5 years now and it is still in very good condition, as well as a pair of shorts. The only product that deteriorated fast was a black shirt that got ruined by bleach (I shredded it and used it for cleaning). SHEIN is absolutely an immoral business, but buyers can still take the actions needed to make their products last.
This video triggers me so much. The influencers we see just don’t care anymore, blinded by money and money. This is insane. Thank you for making a video about this, I hope it will open the eyes of some of us!
Fr and one thing that bothers me so much about these influencers is they have more then enough money to support themselves. But they’re out here buying huge hauls of cheap ass clothes for hundreds of dollars. If u have more then enough money to support yourself I personally think you should buy from more expensive clothing brands rather then these cheap ass brands like shein. Sorry Idk if that made sense
@@addie8080 it made completely sense and I 100% agree :) I just don’t get how these big influenceurs and also celebrities can accept associating themselves with this brand.
it’s not just influencers. i know so many regular people who consume clothes this way because buying new items that make you feel happy/excited for a second is one of the fastest/easiest/cheapest ways to feel good in a world that is pretty damn bleak
I agree completely, but I think another reason shein is on the rise is because people are getting poorer and they are not willing to pay the prices for clothes. I know I am always blown away by the cost of an item and it makes me feel guilty for buying any new piece of clothing (unfortunately my body type means that I go up and down in size a lot with jeans)
The issue is people who want to buy high volumes of clothing for as cheap as price as possible just to keep up with “trends” that will die in a month. People aren't looking for clothes that they will wear for years to come. They're looking clothes that satisfy whatever the current trend is which leads to a lot of waste. People are getting poorer but they are also consuming more than ever before.
@@sophiallama true, fashion trends although they are fun are the worst for waste. I’ve been watching a lot of videos lately about honing your style and simplifying your closet and it puts into perspective how we as a society focus on quantity rather than quality.
Also because as a society, we have put such emphasis on having a 'style'. 16 year old me would have loved cottage core but I just wore jeans and a t-shirt because that's what I could afford.
Now that fast fashion allows you to dress with 'style' for cheap, people are poor but could still make do with regular clothing are choosing fast fashion instead because it allows them to participate more and more in different trends.
My point is its not just a rise in poverty, its the intersection of poverty + social standards to dress up.
I disagree. Anyone who can drop several hundred dollars on hauls can afford better clothes. The problem is trends and quantity over quality. People want cheap shit so they can buy more for the same cost. They could spend 500$ on 5 high quality items instead of 20 cheap items
yea the thing is with clothes these days is when u buy something cheap we expect it to be cheap and when its expensive we expect some quality. issue is brands are greedy and exploit consumers trust and lack of knowledge so more and more pricey things are made poorly. so what ends up happening is ppl just going fk it and getting the cheap thing so they dont feel ripped off
Shein isn't even "online only" anymore. They really went and put a physical store in my city. I side eye it every time.
Ugh that sucks. How are people still not aware the possible dangers of shein's unknown materials?
Back then when shein was all over tiktok I was glad that they're not available in my country. But a year later I guess due to such high popularity I saw an ad of shein collaborating with one of the famous celebrity of my country. Really breaks my heart no joke I was hoping shein wouldn't get to here but here we are I guess
Jesus no…
The psychical store is in the Harajuku district, in Japan, right?
@@rashben3195 it’s in europe too
@@m4tta oh they made more- I only knew about the one in Japan
I deleted social media because I hated how it was influencing my spending habits. Now that I'm not being both consciously and subconsciously bombarded by "things I need" I shop way less and that has helped my confidence more than any new outfit.
I noticed that alot of the clothing on there is crocheted, crochet can't be machine made and it takes alot of time to make, the workers are definitely not being payed enough
Love that this fast fashion topic is being addressed. You always hit the nail on the head with your videos❤️
No cause seriously. It’s a huge issue
Love that you care more about transparency than brand partnerships. While I somewhat agree when people say that you can't blame individual consumers for company's impacts on the planet, I think people underestimate their purchasing power. There's a difference between purchasing cheap clothing out of necessity vs wanting cheap trendy clothes. We all need to do better and approach fashion in a more conscious way. Subscribed!
you said this so well, agreed!!
i've been seeing so many fashion commentary videos on fast fashion, especially with the rise of hauls on tiktok. it's so horrifying when you take some time to think about the negative impact that these companies have on not only the climate today, but in general living standards for the future. 🙃
Agreed, the hauls on TikTok are the worst. It's so bad for the environment.
I ordered from Shein in 2014, once and never again! The clothes were so low in quality and REEKED after chemicals. I kept one sweater that lasted not even a whole winter and the rest I sold on a second hand website. I know fashion and trends can be fun, but since I cultivated my own style over my 20s and try to buy all time classics in high quality, I really love my closet and feel less stressed. Ignoring trends and buying long lasting quality clothes made life so much easier.
I personally don't buy on Shein, but I do buy from H&M a lot (I don't go shopping much, maybe up to 4/5 times a year). My main concern when buying from these unethical companies is focused on getting value out of it. By value I mean wear it a lot- I won't buy something expensive, because I will be scared to stain it or tear it for the price I paid.
I was doubtful about SheIn before this video, after knowing it’s more powerful than H&M and Zara combined I’m ScArEd

the clothes that my mom bought back in the day are still intact and i still wear them. 50% of my wardrobe is hand-me-downs from my mom, cousins, aunts, even male family members lol. because when they were young the clothing industry was more serious. now, i buy something from zara, i wash it a few times and the color is off or the fabric is thinned out. because now it's quantity > quality. these cheap prices come with their downside...
The amount of textile waste is terrible, although not shocking, but what really dropped my jaw was looking at all those plastic bags that the clothes are all individually packed in. That puts Shein in a different class of egregiousness in my eyes.
As an influencer with a powerful voice like yours in this niche, you are AMAZING for making a video like this to spread awareness. ❤ This is what it means to influence positively and truly make a difference. Your following and society will benefit greatly from gaining awareness about the consequences of their fashion choices 🔥
I remember finding Shein back in 2014 because I was 2xL plus size and hardly I had an incredibly hard time finding clothes, let alone cute and cheap. I actually went a few years without shopping there but then dropped 70lbs in the pandemic 2xl>M and I did not want to throw away and rebuy a new closet so I shopped at shien again for a couple of things just to make it fit my body correctly. At the same time I believe the company has major issues and it pains me whenever I make a purchase here even though it's only been a handful of times.
I've never shopped at Shein but it was the opposite for me in terms of the pandemic, I gained at least 40 pounds and I had to get an entire new wardrobe 😓 it was frustrating trying to find XL clothing in stores within my budget, let alone GOOD quality clothing. Overall it's understandable why people shop at known 'fast fashion' stores, the clothing is much cheaper, just bras ALONE drive me mad with how hard it is to find one within your size (brands had different measures shockingly) in this economic.
I love Shein. I never had a problem with it
@@I_cReAtE_and_YoU_hAtE Congrats
@@I_cReAtE_and_YoU_hAtE ok?
Damm you droped a lot of weicht and that during a Pandemic...good work
I feel like people need to start shopping and managing what they own more consciously. Figure out what you need, what you use, and shop around that as opposed to catering to every desire you have.
SHEIN, Amazon and other fast fashion places make it easy to overconsume with many options and low prices. I once saw in an article that asked “can we really not afford to pay sustainable fashion prices? or do we mean we can’t afford to pay those higher prices at the same rate as we would with fast fashion?”
I’m on my journey of having only things that I use or need, which for me looks like trying to get unused things out of my life as best as possible, consuming less and when I do buy something, trying to buy ethical
Poshmark is FULL of SheIn items, so might as well shop them on there 🤷♀️
That's why people were going on a debt to follow nowadays trend. We couldn't stop it, but we could prevent this issues in the future.
I'm in love and feeling content with what am I wearing, but how about other people? They force themselves to follow this dumb trend only to got recognized and position in such field. This is a menace to society. Those brands need to stop its own produce. And society needs to have a heavy considerations for this stuff.
Exactly!! In the comments right now there is a teenage girl saying she just wants cheap and trendy clothes. I don’t get why you wouldn’t want an individual style! Mine is personally leaning towards fairy grunge, mostly because wear and tear adds to the aesthetic lolol
Reminds me, when I finally didn't care what the other girls thought of me, I started wearing what I loved: Goth clothing.
It is a relief finding your own style and you never will ever have to throw something away due to it not being trendy.
When I started wearing what I wanted, my friends and even my relatives were so inspired to find their own style.
I think, showing people, that they don't have to follow what others wear and constantly changing their style like influencers, gives them a push to finally slow down, feel better and buy less. It does not only reduce fast fashion, but also gives you real lasting happiness and convidence.
I don't think that those it-girls, who do Shein Hauls are reeeeally happy with their purchase. It is a short rush of dopamine but after a day, they don't care for the clothes anymore. While when you buy one quality, beautiful top that you have saved up your money for, you feel the joy everytime you wear it for years.
i guess what's strange to me is the fact people throw out these perfectly fine clothes...i have shein pieces that have lasted me years, i haven't thrown out or given away a single thing...
Same I have a cardigan from shein I bought 2 years ago
@@kaelaroos fr ive even mended a skirt from there…also following the wash instructions works wonders lol…i think if you must buy from shein buy things that you actually like, not to try and conform to a trend so it has longevity in ur closet
Yeah the main issue with buying from Shein is not wearing the clothing or throwing it out so fast. That’s why reviews are so helpful when it comes to quality and how long a piece can last. Also the pictures showcasing how the item looks. If I’m spending a lot of money on there I want it to be on clothes that I will FOR SURE wear constantly. I made the mistake of not buying clothes I could wear daily last time, and I feel so bad since it’s such a waste :( if I buy from there again I’m gonna run through and MAKE SURE I got the wash instructions, will I wear this constantly, is it my style, etc.
shein consumers when heout consumers walk in:
i've never understood why fashion influencers feel the need to make these huge hauls. like buying from shein is bad enough, but then they go on to make a tiktok that will make their audience feel the need to go and buy from shein as well, which just compounds the harm.
Personally, I blame the consumers more than SHEIN itself. People buy clothes in excessive for no good reason. SHEIN is good for those who can’t afford, I’ve bought from SHEIN but pieces that’ll last me, if taken care of, a long time.
I A G R E E !!! SHEIN consumers literally buy everything off of it and it is so annoying. 😀😀
Exactly this
I agree. It's the excess for me. That's the issue with so many problems in the world. Humans need to learn moderation.
Personally i think you should blame SHEIN still anyway.
yeah ofc shein is to blame...... but it wouldnt exist without customers. idk, sometimes i hear people at work talk about buying new this, buying new that. i dont think owning many clothes is bad ofc - everyone has a different style, some ppl like to mixup different styles, therefore ofc fhey need more. its just a matter of truly appreciating what you have and knowing the impact what you DECIDE to DO or BUY has on the world. we live in a capitalist society - i get it. sometimes we cant help ourselves. sometimes i buy in fast fashion brands too. but 90% of the time its when i cant find it secondhand. im seeing a lot of shein products in thrift stores - its a matter of time until theyre flooded with shitty cheap quality shein stuff. yh it looks nice - but at what price? i just think more people should reflect on themselves more often and really feel responsible for thei actions. the amount of plastic i produce every month scares me - i cant even begin to think how it looks for these tiktokers who do a few shein hauls every month. idk man. again, we live in society - i blame no victim of consuptionism and excesive capitalism - i just hope they wake up from it someday.
Great video, Zoe. I would be very interested to learn more about Revolve and other brands and how they differ! It’s super helpful to understand what goes on behind the cute clothes we take for granted
This is why I'm not in insta/snapchat/tiktok/etc. Btw zoe I've been doing your ab exercises since a week, i see some changes . ILY girl
Never ordered from Shein. I usually try to go for a vintage / thrifted items or ones that are high-quality and will be timeless for me.
I remember I once saw a skirt from Shein in one of the thrift stores and it was so poorly made and synthetic... Of course the quality of their clothes is nothing compared to the way they treat their workers. It's just sad... And I don't think people will ever understand it fully, because most of them only care about their profit not environment. But I do hope that more people will become aware of this issue.
The biggest positive of shein for me is that there’s not a lot of variety with plus size fashion in most retail spaces. It’s either ridiculous items or frumpy clothing. Shein has such a wide variety of clothing that fits many different aesthetics for plus size women. I’m surprised clothing industries are only now *beginning* to tap into the plus size market by providing actually nice clothing.
I think something to consider as well, is that people nowadays do NOT know what good quality clothing is and do NOT know what actually fit them.
I see so many videos showing clothes where the person says “oh wow, it’s so well done” and you can just see the construction is weak, pulling already, zipper exposed, …
They think Zara is top quality. It is not. I understand people with very tight budget can’t shop in less affordable brands, but the quality and cut of 90% clothes are poor. I blame them for making a “mainstream” style that you see on everyone too. It’s almost impossible to find someone that dresses differently.
I watched about this topic so many times on RUclips and am so happy you did it again! I think it’s always good you remember about such global issues on a regular basis so more and more people can be reached as well, thank you! ♥️
You are like a detective, always diving deep into serious situations!! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH, I honestly can’t stop watching them OMGG
I'm so glad to see more & more RUclipsrs speaking up about this!
Great video
Thanks so much for making these videos. As a 13 year old girl with social media, I can get so confused and I really dont want to accidentally mess myself up with unrealistic standards, trends etc… And all the information you give out to me makes me understand better.❤
H&M, Zara, Brandy Melville, Topshop, Forever21, Ali express, Victoria's Secret, Yesstyle, Primark, Urban Outfitters, Mango, Uniqlo, fashion nova and a lot of designer brands as well
And no name studio is amazing
Perfectly said, Zoe. It is truly insane how trends come and go so fast these days, it's almost sickening 😕 I believe we, as a whole, need to invest more time and energy into a stronger sense of permanence. Things nowadays seem so fleeting to the point that hurts.
I love your videos. You bring up issues in such an informative yet kind way. Fast fashion is such a huge issue, but as you said we have so much more power than we think. I've found that shopping on depop and dropping into local charity shops has helped a lot. If I wait until a trendy item appears on depop I can know if I just wanted it because it was trendy or if I actually wanted it because I would wear it all the time
Thank you Zoe 😊
I didn't buy on Shein to get lots of clothes: I bought on shein because it's cheap and it was easy to find the styles I wanted. I usually shop at thrift stores, but it's more time-consuming to find a specific piece (like for a party or dance dress code) What they do is horrible, but they were almost my only option and I did NOT buy a ton at once. I bought a skirt, some jewelry and a pair of shoes, and that was IT. I could not imagine getting that many clothes just to throw them away. I hate trends, they suck, and I'm sad that I supported this company.
Yeah same, its so frustrating when you find pieces that you have been looking for for forever on ultra fast fashion brand sites like Shein or Yesstyle and then feel guilty for buying them. The only way to make it up to the environment is to keep the items for as long as possible...
I feel you. I was searching for a certain top for literal years before I spotted it on an H&M website.. Never felt so bad buying something :(
@@ducklingscap897 Why? Like seriously if y‘all are gonna hate and cancel h&m and all the other cheaper brands then fvck y‘all because where am I supposed to buy my shi
If more shein shoppers took your approach, this mess would be soooooooo much smaller.
It is like this for sustainability as well. Some people have to buy from for example shein because they can’t afford other clothes. But the people who can afford better and more sustainable clothing should buy from other places.
I have order from shein before and it were like 2 hoodies, 1 shirt and one pair of joggingpants for the same price as simmilar products from H&M.
I felt kinda bad afterwards because I knew before ordering that shein clothes are not good for the environment. I still chose to order them because with the size-chart I somewhat knew that they are going to fit better than the ones from other brands. I stil wear these clothes every week almost 2 years after ordering them because I shop after the style I like and not the on thats on trend right now. 😬🤷♀
this video has given me so much confidence, for instance trends on tiktok are telling people what to listen to, what to wear, what to watch.. even if you aren’t interested! my clothing style has changed a-lot within time. and i am happy about it now but these trends still affect me. i just want to wear what i like and thats that. but apparently if you don’t follow these trends, people around you consider you to be cringe, or weird. its a really sad thing that is happening right before our eyes.
Thanks Zoe for another video 🤩
Zoe, thank you sooo much for being a content creator! I absolutely love your videos and the various topics you talk about, always super hyped whenever i get the notification for a new video of yours ❤️😍
such a good video!! not gonna lie, I purchased stuff from Shein I think twice back in 2020, but the quality wasn't good in my opinion, but I still really like to shop clothes without spending a ton of money so for the past couple of years I have been doing just that secondhand (mostly from thredup). The prices are honestly comparable to Shein most of the time, the clothes I get are better quality (even if they have been worn once or twice by someone else, that really doesn't bother me), AND it's SO MUCH BETTER for the planet that I satisfy my shopping cravings this way🤗
One of my favorite RUclipss just uploaded! YAY ❤️
4:20 “Then I got this top”
What about…
“Then I gotta stop!” 😂
im so so so glad you made this video. i’ve been working to promote buying ethically and do so myself whenever i can ever since i learned what fast fashion was, but everywhere you look all you see is people promoting it, and I know that a lot of people know about the negative repercussions from brands like shein, but everyone online that you see is promoting it massively. i hope some people that watch this have learned something and maybe this can make an impact on people who can afford to shop ethically and dont
I always love your videos!! 💞💞
Your hair is so great.
zoe, you have such powerful and wise words that im always blown away xx
You sicken me
@@owenposer6720 thank you, you too x
Honestly, I love to thrift shop as I can find adorable items/retro aesthetic for cheap and it gives these clothes a new life. It’s so good for the environment instead of all of it going to waste.
Personally my family is not wealthy, so SHEIN is one of the only ways I can find things I like for a affordable price (apart from thrift shopping). My family is very minimalist so I only buy something on there if I can still wear it 2 years from when I got it. I think as long as you know you'll keep it for awhile, then its fine if you buy things from there.
I will always shop from Shein. The clothes are fantastic. I don’t ever listen to the dumb trendy people who just buy things because of a sponsorship. I buy stuff off Shein because the clothes are cute as fuck, most are awesome quality and I love them. 99% of my clothes in my closet are from Shein.
I am not wealthy either but never shopped from Shein and never will. I stopped shopping fast fashion altogether. I use my clothes over 5 years easily before they don't fit my style or brake in to pieces. Thrifting and making clothes myself is my way to go 🙌🏻.
@@I_cReAtE_and_YoU_hAtE yes! i have to be honest, me and my family aren’t able to afford cute clothes from other companies because of how demanding their prices are!! shein does have very cheap clothing that are still trendy so i mostly do shop on there. i don’t do it all the time because i don’t need a lot of clothes haha but i do feel bad for those workers :(

I was waiting for my girl Zoe to hit this nail on the head 😂
Really nice and good video! Love it. You picked up the topic veryyy good ✨️
A great watch as usual. I really enjoy your content. Keep it up ! You’re doing great ! 💪🏾💪🏾✨✨
I was really confused by the title but i got it, I'm just now finding out it's not pronounced like sheen but she-in
I can never and will never get over how cute you always look 😭💕
I wish there was a way to do something like shein ethically and more environmentally friendly, because some of the stuff is super cute. I've bought there once and loved what I got (they had great fake nails for so cheap) but after everything I've heard these past years, I'd never do it again.
I have a somewhat contradictory opinion here. I shop at Shein. I make $1,000 total in an entire month and nearly all of that goes to bills, gas, and groceries because I’m a 19 year old who lives alone. Shein is the only way I can afford to buy enough clothes to last me through the season. Unfortunately, in Texas the seasons are vastly different so I have to have a broad wardrobe in terms of body coverage and material. I have a lot of pieces from Shein in my closet. However, nearly all of these shein pieces have been in my closet for a year or longer. When you buy clothes according to your style (rather than trends), and take care of them, they do last, and then it becomes much, much less unethical. I don’t support the working conditions, but shein and the thrift stores are the only places I’m able to shop regularly without suffering financial consequences. As for shopping exclusively at thrift stores, I live in a college town, so if a good piece is in the thrift store for even a day, it’ll be gone. It’s also unfortunate that thrift stores don’t have a bunch of clothes in my size (14-16) because that’s an average size so all of those get taken. There are options, and I’ll buy a good piece that costs more if I know its worth, but I just can’t afford to do that as much.
No we need to shame them, im happy you're talking about this but not shaming them only continues the destruction of our planet
I agree. Not only are these clothes destructive to the planet but a lot of unethical labor practices also go into making these clothes. There is no excuse for anyone to buy tons of clothes from Shein every 3 months.
It would be totaly okej to buy from Shein if you valued each item and truly intended to wear it till it breaks (even better if you also try to repair it and take care of it)
Does anyone remember when SheIn was SheInside? I feel old but I’ve been browsing their site for so many years. I feel like their popularity in recent years ruined it and really exploded its waste production 😩
😭 lol a shein ad played before your video
Yes, Shein is sooo bad, but keep in mind all the other fast fashion like Zara,H&M,Princess polly,Brandy etc. are just as bad!
YUP. They completely forget them
In this video she talked about how is shein even worse, so I wouldn't compare them like this. They fall under the umbrella of fast fashion companies but shein is just on another level of problematic
I feel like Shein is way worse. They drop 1000s of new products EVERYDAY!! That’s just crazy.
@@kark2036 Yes, totally agree, but I just wanted to say that other fast fashion is not better than shein. I just think a lot of people forget that!
I think Shein is much worse because they are so cheap and trendy so it encourages overconsumption way more. Shein quality is way worse 90% of the time and their styles are much less versatile and 'timeless'. Shein thrives on literal monthly microtrends. I can wear most Zara/H&M items for 2-5 years but with Shein, one year of wear will be quite rare in terms of trendiness and quality.
I remember that in 2014 or something like that it was actually called she-inside and it was really popular among fashion/ lifestyle RUclipsrs i Poland , but I’ve never known anyone irl that had any of their clothes so I always thought they were just some expensive foreign shop, now that it is everywhere kinda blows my mind
Knowing just how bad Shein is (having first discovered their thief of art as an artist myself, knowing beforehand it was highly unlikely to be ethical), I just. I'm at such a loss. My friends and family buy Shein, and every time I see it I don't know how to convey just how bad it really is. It's not even that they are the main cause, especially when influencers buy from Shein IN BULK - but the amount bought is just so bad I wish even us regular people would just avoid it. I don't know how to ask them to try, considering how cheap it is and how friends most of all would like to save cash. It's just so genuinely sad, because of all the damage it causes.
First time coming across ya channel but def a 10/10 great vid
Thank you for making this video i have been talking about this with friends for the past year and they dont get it hopefully people get it now W video
Literally hate how these influencers are spending hundreds to thousands on Shein Hauls but then will post "uwu care for the environment y'all
I feel like there was a time when SHEIN and Zaful were neck in neck in terms of popularity, so I wonder why SHEIN was the one to grow so much bigger. Especially because I think they're owned by the same people.
The irony of me seeing SHEIN ad in this video 😅 As always a great review of the issue!
your hair is gorgeous oh my gooooood
I know this is a serious video but right now I can't get over how GOOD this split dye hair looks on you 🙈
Shein products +tiktok advertising is a recipe for ✨ disaster ✨
Omg Zoe looks sooo cuteeeeeee
What a topic, I love it ❤️
Okay but you honestly deserve a big ty for making this video. From the editing to the work put into researching is amazing! Thanks Zoe!!
During the pandemic, I bought so much clothes from these websites and I never wore any of it, since it was so cheaply made and it honestly just wasn’t made for normal day to day. Like the prints were so extravagant that I couldn’t use it unless it was for a specific occasion..
I haven't really changed my style or aesthetic since 5th grade, but rather upgrading the looks and getting better at achieving the look I want, esp now that I'm in high school. I don't have any interests in following the ever-changing trends online and mostly get a few clothes from walmart or macy's that last me over a year as I'm still growing lol.
i would love it if you made some more videos about brands (in general) that are taking environmental consciousness seriously! i see so many videos about who's doing it wrong but rarely videos about who's doing it better . That being said, I freaking love your channel
Honestly, I feel like from the age of 20 I slowly found my style regarding fashion. I don't like owning a lot of things because it gets overwhelming and throwing things out is something I dislike even more. At the moment I buy around 20 fashion items per year, which I think is alright but I hope to go down to 10 in the future. As soon as you figure out what you like, the desire to follow all these short-living trends fades. But personally I think to get there it's also important to unfollow people online that work with such brands and promote all these trends. If you don't do this you'll see so much content including the newest styles that, in the end, you'll actually think it's something you like. I hope more people will get there and that more influencers refuse to work with them so we can go back to more long-living individualistic styles.
The real question is how do you part your hair perfectly everyday to separate your blonde from your brunette 🤩😍love the video ✨
As a young fashion designer and aspiring influencer, I've dedicated my life to raising awareness about the harmful acts found in fast fashion companies and making/buying sustainable pieces. I genuinely feel heartbroken when I see an influencer I've followed for years announcing their partnership with brands like these. There's no way they're oblivious to this. Thank you so incredibly much for declining their offer and making this video. As one of my favorite RUclipsrs this means more to me than you'll know. Thank you for always entertaining, inspiring, and teaching me, Zoe. Love you! ❤
Zoe is such an icon
Love the video - I just wrote my thesis on Shein. People also have to be aware of Sheins Surveillance Capitalism structures and the way they advertise very successfully with Influencers and user generated content.
Can you show your way of minimalism please....i love your closet
so glad you made video about it, totally worth it.
Wow I think it’s so amazing that you made a video like this! Allot of my friends buy things from shein and I’ve seen allot of shein haul videos on RUclips and always thought it was a bit problematic.... I think that you can deffinantly still buy from shein as long as you ask ur self will I cherish and keep this for years to come? Also shopping at retro, or thrift stores is a really smart idea aswell!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
as a young person, i do need to say that I also used to buy clothes from shein since I didn't knew it better back then. it was cheap and that was perfect for a teenager without much money. BUT I learned from my mistakes because I informed myself. I am now doing my research before I shop somewhere and I rather save some money to buy better clothes than supporting companys like shein
Just bought 4 ties from shein recently, because my work requies them. First I wanted to buy from a sustainable brand, but I cant afford a 30€ tie. I alr looked at nearby thrift stores but werent able to find one that suits my uniform. I feel horrible because of but but as a student Im simply not capable of spending this much money when I can get one for 3€
ordering off shein for important events motivate me to do well in life and maybe even start sewing myself
I'm so happy that this is finally talked about by someone who has actual influence and can reach a lot more people
The reason why I buy Shien on occasion is because it's all I can afford. I try to order things off of amazon somtimes because I know that shein has a bad rap but amazon is still like 3x more expensive per item
Amazon basically does the same thing 2
amazon is not much better than shein. They sell a lot of clothes from Chinese brands similar to shein, except the price is typically marked up, so you may be spending more money for equally low quality, unethically produced products. I would recommend you buy cheaper but higher quality items from fast fashion retailers like H&M, or just purchase new clothes as infrequently as possible (which you probably already do if shein is all you can affford!). If you're really interested in sustainable fashion thrift shopping is by far the best option, it's ALWAYS more sustainable than buying new, even from "ethical" brands
