55 years old and finally found the original video! And not the one from Alphaville. One of my all time favourite songs! Can you imagine writing the lyrics in the 80’s and living it now 2024
The foresight in this video is chilling. 2 years later Chernobyl fallout happened and Pripyat became a ghost town. A time when music videos carried a message. I cherish growing up in the 80’s.
Three Mile Island incident had occurred a few years prior (1979), so the topic was still sort of on many minds ("what if it happened here and there were mass casualties?" etc).
In my opinion, still one of the greatest music videos of all time. No fancy effects; just simple storytelling that delivers a knockout punch straight to your heart.

You should read Geldoff's book about it all, you'll see what and who was behind the whole thing, who actually went to Africa and held dying children and made a lot of the big decisions. Who called and called and wrote anyone and everyone to get the whole thing off the ground. Yes, Midge helped a lot, but it was Geldoff that did most of the legwork and got it all going. They did write the song together and i do believe Midge should get more credit for that
I'm 17. Ultravox were one of the first bands that I got into. When I was growing up, my parents introduced me to all of their best songs and I instantly fell in love. Their sound birthed such a passion for music in me, as I'm now a guitarist and singer in a band. Such a beautiful and emotional tune!

I first heard this in 84 on KROQ and fell in love with it. Then I saw the video and cried....HARD! It just came on the radio and I decided to watch it again. Cried even harder, immediately. Look at our world today. 😪
I don't know what they were thinking when they made the video....prophets maybe? Yet the song is a masterpiece of 80's synth-pop...solid sound, unbelievable vocals, i still adore it!
Born in 1986 I heard all these songs playing in my parent's car. Aha, Rah Band, Talk Talk, Ultravox, Alphaville, Bronsky Beat, Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark... They had a few new-wave compilations on audio cassette. All these songs really painted my early memories with some unique colours. I was a young boy full of hope for the future. I would never have imagined society would be such a mess in 2020. Dancing with tears in my eyes is one special track. I remember having mixed feelings about that one. Still have. It's stirring up some deep and unknown sentiment. Could not find a word for it. Thanks Ultravox you're great artists bringing beauty to the world.
i think there was so much emotion in music back then as there was no emotion at all in society, it was a outcry. it still is. but music now is braindead. just as mankind. RIP.

I should agree partly. I'm 40, come from Slovakia, former Czechoslovakia, so 80's was the decade of a change. Also my childhood years. And music such as this was not available (easily) [became at the beginning of 90s]. So I understand that nostalgia of people like me. But I've read many comments of different people, from different countries, different age (30-70) and all of them say "Good old 80's, fuck the today'. Why is that? What was the main reason of their nostalgia? Dunno how easy was to get music in western countries in end of 80's (behind "the wall" it wasn't easy [and also not legal for 'western' music afaik]), but compare it to today - wanna music? Plenty of. Instantly. Everywhere. Maybe music devalved and todays music has no value for our ears because there is too much music everywhere. Maybe it is about social contacts - wanna music at 80's? Go to shop, go to concert, meet people. Not "open web browser and play (freely)" whatever you want. Alone. Everywhere...

Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's five and I'm driving home again
It's hard to believe that it's my last time
The man on the wireless cries again
It's over, it's over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's late and I'm with my love alone
We drink to forget the coming storm
We love to the sound of our favourite song
Over and over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's time and we're in each other's arms
It's time but I don't think we really care
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by

And now here we are Ukraine....
I love 80s and Ultravox.. i was born in 1980 .im italian.. non c'è paragone con oggi
In 2024 this Song makes more sense than ever.
The fear is understandable but the nuclear blast will never come. It's only effective if it doesn't.
"Dancing with tears in my eyes. Weeping for the memory of a life gone by." Damn, i really miss the 80's...
...remembering my 16th birthday...sitting on the stairs, listening to this song...now I´m 53...omg...I´m old...
hello, how are you doing ?it is nice meeting you here.
This is one of the greatest songs of the 80s.
@@starlight161964 yes of course
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's five and I'm driving home again
It's hard to believe that it's my last time
The man on the wireless cries again
It's over, it's over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's late and I'm with my love alone
We drink to forget the coming storm
We love to the sound of our favourite song
Over and over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's time and we're in each other's arms
It's time but I don't think we really care
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Thanks so much for the lyrics but what the f*** is happening in this video (besides the song)

That moment when you discover you’re favorite 1980’s song in 2024.

Finest beats from the 80s
I was born in 1970 and this is my music. They say music that your listen to in your teens define your taste.
Absolutely. I was born the same year and being an 80's teen is inseparable from the music of that decade. And what great music it was.
i was born in 2000 but i just can’t bring myself to like modern day music as much as i enjoy this, i’m very lucky my dad raised me on this instead
Im a 95 baby and i feel ya on this. I use Pandora because the second the radio comes on my ears bleed.
Sme. I was born in 2006 and can't stand modern songs. I only listen to these type of songs!

@@xandercat6948 No one, but it's a sentiment that people evidently agree with. I don't see any problem with it.
I never thought a music video such as this one would make me cry uncontrollably. But it did. It's tragically beautiful and it's making me think a little of When the Wind Blows, but this video was about two years early. Well done.
The 80's, what a time to remember. Good music!
Enfin retrouvé cette chanson que je cherchais depuis mon adolescence, 40 ans après je l aime toujours ❤️❤️
