    Thank you for sharing. I built many corrugated plastic aircraft with proper airfoil. My suggestion is a delta wing shape with a single vertical fin as oppose to twin fins. The delta wing with tapered chords and single verticals fin and narrow cigar shape fuselage will reduce the drag factor significantly. My 2 cents.

    that's some crazy speed on a budget. I've been experimenting with using a monokote iron to flatten the edges of foamboard, it kinda melts and squishes a bit if you get the temp right and i think you can make a more aerodynamic plane out of it for some high speed runs like this...

    • @EuanTodd
      @EuanTodd 5 лет назад

      No the spoons dont do anything structural, they are acting as air scoops to promote better airflow to the prop by decreasing the turbulence in front of the prop + bonus airflow with the coanda effect.

      @mark675 5 лет назад +1

      @@EuanTodd you been watching tom stanton? Lol

    • @rcbinchicken
      @rcbinchicken 5 лет назад +2

      @@EuanTodd Hmmm, not quite. From what they're saying in the video, it's more to keep air flowing over the *motor*, to keep it from overheating. The net effect on the prop will actually be a negative one as it will create a bit more turbulence through the blade disc, though the tradeoff is clearly worth it given they didn't fry a second motor. Coanda effect would be if, instead of the spoons, they'd just smoothed the rear fuselage gradually down to a smaller diameter, which the air would then follow.

      @@azgarogly I mean the first part was how I interpreted why they added the spoons (the less turbulence infront of the prop the more thrust and the less the motor has to work) + the bonus bit was preety much just reference to tom Stanton who just made a quadcopter that uses the effect.

    You ever thought of a speed-trap? Take two track-frames like they use it in the DRL hook them with optical sensors. The first break starts a timer, the second stops it. With the distance between the two frames, and the time between the breaks you can measure speed much safer and more accurate. Not to mention that visitors could also rate their contraptions with it.

    Sweet plane. One of the things my company makes is a radar, there is a competition to get the fastest standing speed. Whats the fastest speed you can clock with both feet solid? Our record is 38kmh. My best is 32kmh. Both feet on the ground. Challenged!
    Something that bugs me is that you pronounce Andres "On-dress", but every other Andres ive known is "Awn-dray". No big, dude can use his name however he wants.
    Love it. Gonna have to get the boss to spring for an rc plane for high speed testing :-)

    Can you guys make a Arsenal Bird from Ace Combat 7 and make it where it can carry and launch small drones. That would be epic, just make sure it's massive XD

      That would be cool. Though I see some problems like it would be hard to make the video cool for general audience. And what about legal stuff around long range fpv?

      The spear is good for long range, long flight time fpv however it is rather large but it's very efficient

    Setup two poles a known distance apart, setup a camera perpendicular to the midpoint of those poles so they are both in frame then you can work out approximate speeds in editing.

      Now that I've thought about it, I'm sure there is a gps module you can just throw in.

    @flitetest Hey guys I have a really crazy idea, something that I have never seen done and you guys are the perfect people to do it. Take a racing drone and mount the entire thing on the front of an airplane. This mounting would have the motors facing straight forward, just having the drone body being used as a motor mount for all the motors. This would have four motors all facing forward, and it would most likely be crazy maneuverable. This should be an extremely easy build, just mount it and HANG ON!! Let me know what you think, would love to see it happen.
