It’s so weird because when it’s Christianity it’s “yea you’re awful and clearly wrong and backwards” but when it’s Islam it’s “oh it’s just a different culture” but it’s so difficult because criticising islam puts you in a trap of being called “racist” and “imperialistic” because Islam is so much more deeply rooted into Middle Eastern culture that it’s difficult to distinguish the two as separate things
No you can. This is a trap that both the Muslim apologist and social warriors use to deflect valid criticism. Islam is an idea and ideas are never above criticism. As long as one makes the distinction between Islam and Muslims then no one can call him racist.
Islam is not a race. It has followers from different racial groups. You have white, black, asian muslims. Moreover, Islam and Arabism is rooted in colonialism but NO one wants to talk about it.
What is currently seen as "traditional" muslim custom, is actually an invention of the recent times. I don't want to claim that its all just a misunderstanding, but we need to realise that Islamism is NOT a traditional way of living but in fact a deeply modern reactionary movement, targeting people who actually know very little about their own traditions (western muslims and convertites are probably the easiest targets)

Abigail Harp In Saudi Arabia having sex outside of marriage is punishable by law (straight or gay) but you have to have Four witnesses in order to be proven guilty, this law comes DIRECTLY from shariah but, rape is punishable in Saudi Arabia unfortunately most assaults happen with in families and there’s a huge stigma attached to reporting any assault not only by a family member. So most times rape just goes unpunished if the family didn’t honor kill the daughter to wash her shame away
Abigail Harp I’m reading a very good book on that topic by Lebanese-born author Ralph Ghadban. He lives in Germany and teaches at a University in Berlin as an expert on Muslims, Islam and the sociocultural consequences of their migration to the west. Here’s a link to the book. It is called «Tarik Ramadan and the Islamisation of Europe». It explains the history of Islam and Muslim societies and compares it to the development of Christianity and Judaism, explaining how philosophers dating back to Aristotle have impacted these processes of emancipation into enlightened, rational society or rather lack thereof in the case of Islam and how attempts by Islamic scholars to do the same in Muslim society were silenced and / or killed along with their work. Tariq Ramadan lives here in Switzerland in the city of Geneva, so for me, a Swiss citizen, this was of even greater importance to read, but Ramadan is so widely influential in many countries and the book explains very well why Islam is «backwards» in many ways - seen through a westerner’s eyes - that it’s an educating read for all of us living in secular democracies that were mostly built by a society rooted strongly in some form of Christianity and Judaism. I also recommend Alex o’ Connor’s RUclips channel CosmicSkeptic, he’s a brilliant young English lad, an atheist studying Philosophy and Theology in Oxford to basically debate these topics with arguments based in a deep understanding of the subject matter. en.qantara.de/content/book-review-ralph-ghadban-tariq-ramadan-and-the-islamization-of-europe

It’s Isis whom are throwing homosexuals off buildings. Islam tells us to respect everyone and not to judge, leaving the judgment only to Allah and not on ourselves. This conversation needs to be had more often. I believe that this video paints a very realistic picture on how’s it like for LGBT people and for women to be brought up in Islamic countries. Ignoring the problem and never talking about it in fear of offending Muslims is not a good tactic and it does more harm to the minorities in these countries than just being “offensive “ encouraging the Islamic mentality not speaking against it is harmful to people in these groups
There's also the argument that blind faith is worthless, and while not perhaps the goal of such conversations getting people to consider why they feel a certain way or believe a certain thing can help strengthen then faith so the religious leaders should actually encourage it. But then I'm often baffled by the hostility to drawings of "Mohammed" when no-one actually knows what he looked like, and so all people need to do is say "I don't know who that is but it is not my Mohammed". I typically think of the famous scene from Spartacus but with them saying "I'm Mohammed" instead. 😅 Heck look at how many people think that Jesus, who was born and raised in the middle east, was white and that he was nailed to the cross through his hands and feet, not the wrists and feet.

I worked for a small family business that hired mostly people from within their culture (Arab) who originated from countries throughout the Middle East. I soon learned that the thing they all had in common, was that they were Christian, and had fled to Canada to escape persecution in their own countries. Turns out that a lot of them hid their Christian faith in their home countries, and had to leave when they were ousted as it became too dangerous. The stories they told were heart wrenching. One of them told me a story about how they saw their Christian neighbours being dragged out of their house in the middle of the night, mother, father, and 8 year old daughter. They were beaten in the street, and then doused with gasoline and lit on fire.
The US did that too. We called that period the Salem Witch Trials. There's also the Crusades, if going back further into Christianity. People should just stop setting each other on fire.

@@nthgthexactly! They didnt do it *because* theyre gay, they did it simply because they possessed the knowledge to do it. I have no idea what we have to make being gay an entire personality trait. We have got to stop celebrating people for whatever they do and everywhere they go simple _because_ they’re gay.
its bc our religoun is what we have to follow, we have to follow it no matter what because we were born that religoun. Im a muslim and i dont hate the lgbtq+, the fact that mostly everyone here is hating on Islam shows that people are toxic af.
I love that you have these difficult, yet necessary, conversations. And that they are ACTUAL conversations. Too many times, we heard "We need to have a conversation" every time a divisive issue comes up, yet it is never followed by an actual conversation. Rather, talking heads argue for a 5 minute segment, spewing talking points, and nothing of substance is learned. Kudos to you, Arielle!❤
Thank you Arielle. You never shy away from telling it as it is! I would love a video about the forced transitions on gay men in Iran. The state pays for them to not have gay men in their society. There was a tragic, heartbreaking incident in my country (Switzerland) last year in the picturesque Emmental, that gives the famous cheese its name: Pstiwan, a 17-year old Kurdish Muslim boy was almost killed by his own father, when he tried to cut his son’s throat in their family home for being gay. The boy, bleeding heavily, jumped out the window and ran to his neighbours who called emergency services. Pstiwan was flown to the hospital, where he had to be put in a coma so the Doctors could perform emergency surgery to save his life. His father almost cut his carotid artery, his trachea was injured. When you think about the fact that religion and state in most Muslim countries are very interwoven, how this religion’s cultural influence has consequences for gay people like Pstiwan - even after migrating to secular western democracies, there is no denying, that there is something wrong at the root of it all. Pstiwan decided to make his story public and was consequentially invited to several TV shows and RUclips talks, most of them in Germany. What stunned me is, that he states the opinion, that from his perspective, Islam and homosexuality are clearly incompatible, and these superwoke TV hosts and debate participants just talk over him, always trying to emphasize the examples that show the «other truth», like that one mosque and Imam in Berlin that invite gay Muslims to prayer and what have you. I sat there and imagined what a teenager who almost died because his own FATHER cut his throat - all based on a stupid old book of partly insanely barbaric texts, must feel like when he gets told how super peaceful Islam is! 🤮 You can find numerous articles online about this. At first, his name was changed, but as he started appearing on TV, he began using his real name and has since come out as trans - voicing the wish to transition once he’s worked through the psychological trauma and after the screening doctors do here before getting on hormones (US take notes ... 😬). @pstiwi is his/her Twitter handle, if you want to follow the journey. The culture and tradition that are set in stone and lived/experienced by a very dominating majority 95%+ of Muslim societies are simply not compatible with being gay. It will take centuries to change that - if it is at all possible (example: German journalist Constantin Schreiber, clearly an open-minded liberal and fluent Arabic speaker wrote a book called The Mosque Report, detailing his visits to random German mosques and how shocked he was by the content of the Imam’s speeches in regard to living in the west, our culture, integration and core values of society). The political overcorrectness of politicians on the left, like our gay MP Angelo Barrile from the Social Democratic Party, refuse to address this because, it doesn’t support their political agenda. «hOmOpHoBia iS nOt a pRoBLeM iN oNLy OnE cULtUrE oR sPeCiFiC tO oNe» - agreed 100%. But the verbal and physical attacks which are not necessarily increasing in numbers but in severity are predominantly - and I’m talking in the realms of 90%+ - committed by young men of patriarchal migrant backgrounds and Muslims are clearly overrepresented while most attacks are directed at gay men and trans women. It will have to play out like the clan problem in Germany or the grooming gang epidemic in Britain (please watch Tommy Robinson’s Oxford Union Adress, it is a punch in the gut). The political climate in western nations is so explosive as the superwoke dictate the discourse through cancel culture to the point, where public figures especially in politics divert the issue, scared of losing their job and reputation until the problem is so obvious, so prevalent that you can’t deny it any more and we’re past the point of having the ability to react. Just an example: in Berlin, the district attorney had to change the law to seize 70 objects of real estate, that had been purchased with laundered money from one single family clan, active in organised crime with several thousand family members living in Germany. I am not an islamophobe - on the contrary! I have family in Tunisia who live a very progressive Islam but even there, homophobia causes problems. My Cousine just got divorced after being married for three years, because it turned out her husband was gay and lied about it. She says for her, him being gay is not the problem, there is an underground gay scene in Tunis and even in smaller urban centres like Sousse where you can live your sexuality if you’re careful. The problem is, that society and the laws are still homophobic enough, even in a westernised progressive Muslim country, that is governed democratically since the Jasmine Revolution, that the consequences lead to suffering for everyone. If you’re interested in these things, I really recommend the books by the gay English author Douglas Murray, an Oxford scholar who wrote my literary beacons of light in recent years «The strange Death of Europe» and the «Madness of Crowds». If you agree with Arielle’s content on Trans issues and other heavily politicised and omnipresent topics like the problem with Islam, they will be your read of the decade! Love you Arielle 💕
Thank you for talking about this. I hate how it's ok to call out Christians for their beliefs, but no other religion can be called to the court. If it's wrong for 1 religion, it's wrong for all.
Sexuality is a natural phenomenon, which manifests itself in different ways in different people. Hinduism acknowledges this need of humans to gratify their sexual desires, and doesn’t harp on it/ condemn it strongly. This is because Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and any oriental religion treats matters of the body as being unimportant. In the grand scheme of things, in the search for spiritual enlightenment and wisdom, a boy loving a boy is not important enough to condemn it. To each their own!
Thanks for showing the fun fact that one can't shout "racism" when someone is critiquing religion, because it's not logic 💚 Fun fact: I studied sociology and at one point, in a seminar about racism and the connection to xenophobia,we were given a test to see if we were "having Muslim phobia", and back then I thought it was weird, because I scored to suffer from "Muslim phobia", because I crossed "yes" that I do believe this religion was surpressive towards women and homosexuals. I felt suddenly "guilty" and "uncomfortable" because I was raised in a humanitarian family and suddenly I was put in a corner from left winged teachers that I am xenophobic and probably an unaware racist. This was 20 years ago and it kind of hit me how ridiculous it was back then already..
This topic hits home for me...my ex was Muslim and her entire family. She felt so guilty loving me and she felt ashamed..it put an everlasting wedge on our relationship. Knowing that she loved her God more than me. Life is not fairytale. Every religion is beautiful in their own way, however, there are problems that need to be talked about..such as this. Thank you Arielle for posting this.
She did not love her God more than she loved you, if that was the case, she probably would have never met you. She actually feared her family and was not prepared to face her fears head on. You did nothing wrong.
I'm sorry to hear. I hope she's left the religion. I left Christianity as it was a ball and chain as a trans person. I couldn't find any moral reason against being trans or gay but the Bible commanded against being gay. Then I read closer and found a great deal of inconsistencies which I couldn't reconcile. Islam is full of them and I hope she finds them, but that has to comd from within
I don’t think all Muslims are homophobic, as long as you aren’t a extremist being Muslim it fine but other lgbt people will excuse homophobia when it’s a Muslim but not anyone else and I’m sick of it! Being oppressed for your religion is no excuse to be homophobic!
I've been saying this for years! And if I may expand on it, (none LGBT included) even amongst atheists they always have out Christianity, but they never call out the religion of Islam because of "islamophobia". But also at the same secular and I think they also agree with that religion. Even though they try to say they don't but at the same not saying something seems like you condone it.
I’m a Muslim 12 year old girl. My family is really homophobic because I had a friend who was lesbian. Basically my 2 friends called Angel and Charlie came over and my dad heard them saying that they like each other, more then friends. After they left, my dad ordered me not to be friends with them anymore because they are quote on “not following their religion” I said that just because they are part of the LGBT community doesn’t mean I cannot be friends with them. My mom isn’t homophobic but my dad and my older siblings are. I was grounded for talking back. Again I am so sorry for the behaviour people in my religion are showing. I do not support LGBT but I respect it because they are humans. It’s their choice is they want to have a sexuality or not
My parents were upset that I was friends with Muslim people. I am still friends with Muslims. Do not listen uneducated parents who descriminate. And you should support lgbtq. They're not doing anything but being In love and they're born this way
@@diane5140 my religion doesn’t allow us to support LGBTQ however we should respect them instead of discriminating them just because of their sexual orientation
I do security at a swingers club and on bisexual night you can't move for the number of Muslim men who come in. They tend to be gay men who were forced into an arranged marriage to save the family honour. The number increases every month. It's really funny when you ask to see the driving license to prove they are over 18 and they register as Mr. Smith. That said afterwards we have to call in the professional deep cleaners. By contrast we do have a small number of Hindu and Sikh bisexual men come in but they come in with their super supportive wives. They go into different rooms though.
I wish we could have these conversations all the time. We need to have differing opinions and be open to listen to differing opinions, that’s how learning happens. We don’t all have to agree with everyone, that’s what makes life interesting, living in a bubble of people that agree 100% of the time has to be really boring.
Muslim here. I don't attack gay people. Yes, I can't support you, but I won't go out of my way to make you look bad. You are human, I am human, we are all human. I will treat a human as a human. I know people that are apart of the LGBTQIA+ and all of them are on good terms with me. If someone is transgender, I will not misgender them. I won't scream 'Trans rights!!!!!' everywhere I go tho. Hope this clears some things up
I really respect your view and wish more Muslims shared them. However may I ask how you rationalize them with how the Qur'an views homosexuals? Because it doesn't seem to me that it has your approach.
"The left" has changed. I used to call myself leftwing. I haaaated the rightwing. But the parties have flipped. Now its t he "right wing" who promote freedom and equal treatment under the law... And its the "left wing" who promotes tyranny, violence, racism, hate, etc.
@@terminsane Both the left and the right are way too vast to generalize. I consider myself a moderate liberal. The far-left keeps pushing me towards the center but I still identify as a liberal even though I acknowledge certain things like there are only two genders, gender is not a social construct, Islam is homophobic, and you shouldn't believe all women when it comes to accusations of sexual misconduct.
As a 14 year old muslim girl this is what i have to say; It’s important to approach this sensitive topic with a level of nuance that reflects the complexity of religious belief, personal identity, and societal norms. While some may argue that traditional Islamic teachings regarding homosexuality are inherently “homophobic,” this term needs to be critically examined to ensure we’re accurately portraying what is, at its core, a deeply spiritual and theological matter. Here are some points that offer context, clarification, and address the claim: Understanding Traditional Teachings vs. Homophobia: Traditional Islamic teachings discourage same-sex behavior, rooted in religious texts such as the Qur'an and Hadith. This is not unique to Islam; many religions hold similar views based on their interpretations of scripture. However, labeling these beliefs as “homophobic” oversimplifies the matter. In many cases, Muslims uphold their moral code while advocating for the respectful treatment of all people, regardless of their orientation. Feelings vs. Actions: Islam distinguishes between feelings and actions. It acknowledges that individuals may have certain inclinations or desires but calls for self-discipline and adherence to what it sees as moral behavior. This applies across various spheres, not just sexuality. Muslims can experience attractions but are instructed to refrain from acting on them if doing so goes against Islamic guidelines. Criticizing this stance solely based on modern norms overlooks the broader religious context that shapes Islamic views. Islam’s Broader Ethical Framework: Islamic teachings do not prioritize sexuality as the defining aspect of a person's moral worth. While the faith offers guidelines on permissible behavior, it also emphasizes compassion, mercy, and justice in human relationships. Identity politics, while significant in many Western societies, do not hold the same level of importance for many Muslims, who center their lives around their spiritual connection with God, acts of worship, community service, and ethical conduct. Historical Context and Diversity of Interpretation: Islamic attitudes towards same-sex relationships have varied historically and culturally. While some scholars maintain conservative views, others advocate for inclusive interpretations, focusing on compassion, justice, and the well-being of individuals. The diversity within Islam challenges the notion that there is one singular “Islamic” view on LGBTQ+ issues. Islamic Belief in Evidence-Based Faith: Islam’s theological foundations are built on what adherents see as strong evidence for the religion’s truth. For Muslims, following Islamic guidelines on sexuality is not about blind adherence but about striving to live according to divine guidance. Evidence that strengthens this conviction includes: Scientific Insights in the Qur'an: Some Muslims find validation in the alignment of certain Qur'anic verses with modern scientific understandings, such as embryology and cosmology. Preservation of the Qur'an: Unlike many religious texts, the Qur'an has remained unchanged for over 1,400 years. Believers view this as a sign of divine preservation and authenticity. Miraculous Linguistic Structure: The linguistic and rhetorical qualities of the Qur'an, unparalleled in classical Arabic literature, are considered by Muslims to be miraculous and evidence of its divine origin. Fulfilled Prophecies and Historical Accuracy: Predictions and events described in Islamic texts that have come to pass reinforce faith for many believers. Ethical Principles Beyond Sexuality: Islamic morality encompasses all aspects of life, from charity and social justice to honesty in trade. Muslims are called to live ethically and responsibly across all dimensions of life. This commitment sometimes requires making difficult choices in personal conduct and relationships, driven by a desire to please God. Differentiating Between Private Beliefs and Public Conduct: Islam’s guidelines apply primarily to its followers. While it holds particular views on marriage and sexual conduct, it does not advocate imposing these beliefs on others who do not follow the faith. In multicultural societies, Muslims are called to live harmoniously with others, respecting different values while maintaining their beliefs. The Core of Compassion and Dignity: Even in discussions about sexuality, Islam calls for dignity and respect toward all human beings. Muslims are taught to approach others with kindness, to avoid harming or discriminating, and to promote peace within their communities. Focus on Family, Faith, and Purpose: For many Muslims, their focus is on building strong families, deepening their faith, and striving for the afterlife. Sexuality, while an important aspect of human existence, does not overshadow these broader goals and values. Open Dialogue and Respect: Honest conversations about these issues are essential. Engaging in respectful dialogue allows for mutual understanding, even when beliefs differ. It is possible to hold differing convictions while still treating each other with empathy and humanity. In Conclusion: Labeling an entire religion as “homophobic” due to its beliefs around sexuality lacks the depth and nuance that such a complex issue deserves. Islam’s teachings on sexuality reflect a broader moral and theological framework, not a hatred or fear of individuals. By approaching these discussions with respect and understanding, we can foster a space for genuine dialogue without diminishing deeply held beliefs or identities. Greetings, Fatima 😁

What is currently seen as "traditional" muslim custom, is actually an invention of the recent times. Abigail Harp they don’t stone women if they’re raped

Wearing a hijab doesn’t always mean oppression. There are so many women out there who simply wear one because they want to for their religion.

I’d love to see a video on that. People often use that to defend Iran and say that it’s not against LGBT while it so clearly is

It is still ridducule homophobia. Much more wise are progressive christians. Imagine that someone say you are not important at all.

Thanks for showing the fun fact that one can't shout "racism" when someone is critiquing religion, because it's not logic 💚
Fun fact: I studied sociology and at one point, in a seminar about racism and the connection to xenophobia,we were given a test to see if we were "having Muslim phobia", and back then I thought it was weird, because I scored to suffer from "Muslim phobia", because I crossed "yes" that I do believe this religion was surpressive towards women and homosexuals. I felt suddenly "guilty" and "uncomfortable" because I was raised in a humanitarian family and suddenly I was put in a corner from left winged teachers that I am xenophobic and probably an unaware racist. This was 20 years ago and it kind of hit me how ridiculous it was back then already..

I've been saying this for years! A discussion that the rest of people in the US need to wake the hell up to.

Here are some points that offer context, clarification, and address the claim:
Understanding Traditional Teachings vs.
Evidence that strengthens this conviction includes:
Scientific Insights in the Qur'an: Some Muslims find validation in the alignment of certain Qur'anic verses with modern scientific understandings, such as embryology and cosmology.
