I have always been interrupted/overridden in meetings and with big ideas, and it botheres me enough to have left a very lucrative career at an airline for another one in teaching. I now seek out career fields (like academia and consulting/knowledge work online) now where I have the "stage" and don't have to share in groups or work on teams collaboratively because it really gets under my skin to be interrupted and overridden. I have been working in a very male centric world (aviation) since I became a military pilot back in 2000. I think it is much easier to find yourself being interrupted when social norms (gender roles) are in conflict with assertiveness. I think sexism is a massive issue I've faced, and not an easy one to overcome. That said, you talk about wisdom and principles, and I am definitely growing all of that- but being a feminine woman in this career tends to make that wisdom less "expected" and less easily, immediately valued. I could write a book about it...but I'll leave it there. I'd love to hear what you have to say about sexism and communication.
Grace, I am from California which I worked in Louisville Kentucky, ,Mishawaka Indiana, elkhart Indiana 2016 to 2018. My co workers doughted that i knew what i was doing. I just did the work. Priceless……
I notice interruptions when I share my ideas sometimes but I attribute that to the person being overly excited to share or just rude. However it is a hard habit to control, I myself an trying.
I'm the person who interrupts others because I think I'm going to forget what I wanted to say or before they move on to the next topic!! I hate being like this - I'm going to try and write it down so I can add it in as soon as possible or leave it because it wasn't meant to be said!
I love the tip to optimize the redirect! All the tips were great though. Thank you!

My last presentation was interrupted several times. I got the approvals I needed, but they were still a tough crowd.
