This was brilliant. I replaced mine with a part that looked right but had the wrong inner diameter and did not engage the steering angle sensor. After watching this video and some deduction I figured that the part was wrong and bought one with a smaller inner diameter that would engage the steering angle sensor. I did have to reset the air bag sensor after the replacement using my code reader. This guy is great and the first person to tip me off to the differences in parts. Thank you!
Yesterday, I changed the spiral cable on my Armada and afterwards SLIP and VDC Off were on. After watching this video, I decided to replace the sensor that came on the new spiral cable with the old one and I was able to fix the problem. Thanks for helping me. :)
so you bought a bad clockspring? I just bought one from ebay for around 10-20 bucks and it looks just like the one your holding. I've taken the black circle off the old and put it on the new clockspring then installed it put the airbag in and started driving. now I've still have the same problem. I drive about 2-5 mph and the car starts braking like crazy! then the vdc and slip lights come on. on top of that my headlights and windshield wipers stop working then they start working, and stop again. not really sure what's going on, maybe I didn't replace the clockspring correctly like your saying here?
this is exactly what I experienced. The steering angle sensor should be engaged to the clock spring. It is supposed to turn with the steering wheel, so the car can sense what is going on with the car. Let's say the sensor was reading 40 degree when you removed the clock spring. when you drive the car like 5mph - 10mph, the car says "hey man we're so fast and the steering wheel turned 40 degree! so probably my driver lost the control, so let's help him and take the control" then brakes. What you need to do is getting the correct one with the correct inner plastic fitment (the white one). Then you may or may not need to have the steering angle sensor reset depending on the response of the car.
Same thing happened to me , on a fx35 , my horn ,cruise control ,and radio controls did not work . I bought one off ebay , installed ,it corrected all the controls but the , vdc light went to off and the slip.light came on . Plus when braking on corners ,it sounded like the brakes where shuttering , im not sure what that was . I put the old one back on .
@@mkilic10 yeah , i also turned the steering wheel to lock it to remove the nut . Mistake . Then on the steering bolt , there is no " line " for a mark ,to line up on the steering wheel . I only see a small "dot" not even sure if thats the correct mark . So i drove the car straight wheels straight , then removed the steering wheel.and replaced the old clock spring . Now it drives but the vdc off and slip is still on . The first time the wheel was off 90 degree due to me turning and locking the wheel at the last moment , ;( i made extra trouble for myself .
@@boracay12 oh that sucks. Lesson learned. The car thinks that you are not going straight, so tries to take the control for your safety. When I replaced the clock spring, I did the line with a pen myself and kept the steering angle sensor at its position, without changing anything. What I would suggest you to do is this: buy the correct replacement, replace it and take the car to a tire shop (they do it for a lower fee) to reset the steering angle sensor.
Please help me. I recently changed my clock-spring for my g35 coupe 05’ it came off 0’5 g35x sedan. The clock-spring was slightly different but did fit and worked perfectly but my lights came on and car slowed down when driving... Any help would be appreciated!
that means the "slight difference" makes a lot of difference. You have the issue because your steering angle sensor did not engage with the clock spring.
@@franciscoreyes771 the electrical components on both the clock springs are identical, except the white plastic piece in the center. The clockspring you are using has a larger diameter than it should be. The solution is, finding the correct one.
Do It Fix It ok thank you so I should replace it with the correct one? I was going to have someone reset my lights for me that’s why or diagnose the issues
I have the same problem with my 07 g35 sedan that I just bought it.. and my wheel controls don’t work..even the horn and cruise controls don’t work.. any help or suggestions?
yeah it was saying the same when I bought it for my car. so I double checked with the seller and I was told that it will fit. I placed the order and got the item. It fits & works well. this seller was the cheapest one when I wanted to buy. So I suggest you to check the other sellers as well, in case of they offer a lower price.
the clicking noise comes from the traction control when you lose the control unless steering angle sensor is defective. Sometimes having the steering angle sensor reset solves the problem. otherwise . you may need replace the steering angle sensor.
Man.. This all happened after I installed the ebay clockspring.. Then I put the original clock spring back on and the Slip light kept activating. Had it reset at Nissan, now the lights stay on, but nothing else is happening physically
well, I had the same issue related to two different things: 1- The issue that I mentioned here: The vdc and slip lights came on when I go above 20 mph or so. It turned off once I stop the engine. Appeared again when I go above that speed. 2- I forgot to plug the ABS cable back after the hub bearing replacement: it appeared when I drive it and the car did the ABS check. It did not disappear until I plug the ABS cable back, no matter you stop the engine or not. I heard that they might appear even when the brake fluid is low. Somehow there are a lot of issues that can trigger these two lights.
@@v36vhr I dont remember for the first one since its been almost two years. If we come to the second one; yes, the ABS light was also on. I unplugged the ABS sensor and plugged it back, that is all. Do you have the ABS light as well?

Does the lights come on immediately after turning the car on without driving?
I just replaced my clockspring and have the same issue on my 07 armada , by any chance have you taken a pic of the sensor?
Thanks for the video. Encountered the same issue myself
He is indeed correct, I had the same issue and i had to get the part to match up ( especially the internal piece )
Did you get the vdc off and slip light to go away after?
I love you Bro!
