@whitewolf3051 actually during the Civil War, about ten thousand 1860 Henre Repeating Rifles were used, and had high praise by both those who used them, and those on the business end of them. Great video! One thing on the pump shotgun that bothered me so much, though, is that you never rack the pump right before you shoot. Rare guns featured in Red Dead 2 there's quite a few of them but my personal favorite in Red Dead 2 when it comes to rare guns is the lemat revolver and the trapdoor Springfield
Would’ve liked to have seen some of the “weirder” guns from the game like the Evans repeating rifle or Confederate Lemat revolver but given how rare they are and how they like to show off guns they actually have I can see why they might’ve been skipped
The only complaint I have with that game really is that, the guns you have always has the same serial number where you can see it. It would be nice to have two or three versions to play with, maybe a clean or dirty one. Just a minor gripe really, more variety in weapons, or even different conditions of the same weapons would be nice. besides not having the tech to play the game without lagging too much thus dying all the time. I have a question tho for veterans, with or without sleeves?
The broom handle Mauser, or one of its descendants, became the basis for a very famous sci fi weapon. The prop department of Star Wars turned it into the DL-44 blaster, the side arm Han Solo carries around… and kills Greedo with.
You know, there are enough guns that weren't in this video to make a new one. The Evans repeater, the LeMat revolver, the navy revolver, the Maxim gun, the siege cannon(an opportunity to use the "artillery" part of Jonathan's title, the elephant gun, the M1899 and semi-auto pistols, the Carcano, too. Edit: Just realised you also missed the carbine repeater(Spencer carbine)
The Browning Auto 5 is a bit of a weird one in this game. It was first designed and prototyped in 1898...but it didn't actually enter production until 1902. So technically this gun is both anachronistic AND period accurate at the same time (since the game time-skips from 1899 to 1907).
I actually read the book that Jonathan wrote on the c96 carbine, the mauser, and it was very informative and I was surprised how enjoyable reading it was! Anyway keep making the great content!
2:45 that lack of shot dispersion comes from discipline and shooter skill. It's very possible to master this with training and a ton of practice which you get in red dead, mainly because you can't go to the bathroom without so much as a 3 man hit team testing your gun hand.

As I own a single action revolver, I think what's happening in the beginning with Arthur "thumbing the hammer" is simply that he's holding the trigger down (As you would when you fan the hammer) and simply releasing the hammer from under his thumb when he's ready to fire. Still strange, but it is faster than cocking then pulling the trigger.
that's not even what's happening tho lol

Why they provided him footage of the character shooting HUMANS with the varmint rifle is beyond me. I wish instead they had mentioned to him the fact that the Varmint Rifle is included in the game precisely because this isn't just a bandit simulator but also a pretty damn good hunting simulator and you need that gun to get perfect pelts on Rabbits, Badgers, Skunks, and other "varmints".

What makes me like this guy (other than his expertise obviously), is the fact that he understands that games have to be balanced for the sake of good gameplay. I see a lot of experts, especially older people, that doesn't understand why gaming companies doesn't go all-out when they have the resources to do so with ease and they don't understand that most games are not made for the purpose of being super realistic, like Tarkov for example.
Great guy!
Need to do Hunt Showdown, a great mix of highly realistic Wild West weapons and weird botch job anachronisms like the Mosin Avtomat (I’d love to know if that’s feasible or not)
The avto is based on the Huot(spellcheck), which came out in in the early 20th century. Forgotten Weapons did an episode on it.
@@moistewater9437 the Huot Auto Rifle was also featured on Battlefield 1. Hunt: Showdown features Huot's action and drum magazine fitted into a Mosin-Nagant's stock.

came here to talk about hunt, glad to see someone comenting about it too :D
Yeees.
I love how you can truly see the evolution of how the Volcanic Pistol evolved into the Henry Rifle, which then evolved into the 1866 Winchester. One of my favorite stories is how Winchester, Henry, and Smith & Wesson all worked together at separate times to perfect a repeating gun that started as a pistol, and evolved into one of the most famous rifles of it's time.
Yeah, a weak lever action pistol that not even the army bothered with became a strong successful rifle, that the army again didn’t bother with.
@whitewolf3051 actually during the Civil War, about ten thousand 1860 Henre Repeating Rifles were used, and had high praise by both those who used them, and those on the business end of them.
But there were far more Spencer and sharpes carbines manufactured at the time, and they dwarfed that number with over 90 thousand each.

I feel like Rockstar did a good job at keeping them as realistic as possible, while also keeping in mind playability in game. And honestly I feel that the compromises that were made were to smooth the experience to allow a fun variation of it. Like how the hammers magically are cocked once they come back into view.
How refreshing it is to have an expert who actually has some experience on playing the video games he is reviewing

Just that the Musket was percussion cap, imagine if you fully upgraded your starting weapon in a game, that is the musket.

Great video!
One thing on the pump shotgun that bothered me so much, though, is that you never rack the pump right before you shoot. That messes up your aim and puts more stress on you right before the shot. You rack it right after you shoot so you're ready on the followup and can concentrate on aiming. It felt so off.
Pausing - When he talks about the Volcanic, he makes no mention of how in game it appears to be ejecting spent casings, when the Volcanic used caseless ammunition.
In the in-game description in the catalogue, they talk about how they upgraded to cartridge ammo, most likely to justify making the gun usable
Also, I dunno if it's just me but I feel like Rockstar is mocking the irl counterpart of the gun by making it OP in game, contrary to how the gun was in reality

Do the guns of Hunt: Showdown
