    Another reason why bank robberies in the Old West are highly uncommon:
    Most banks are set up with the front facing towards the sheriff’s office and have no back doors, so even if you did manage to grab the loot, you’ll always be greeted by the local law enforcement after exiting

    Another part of Bank Robberies being so prevalent in western pop culture is that it is rather celebrated:
    Nome Alaska does a reenactment of one every Summer Solstice, with a "Wyatt Earp" arriving to save the day (the bags of money carry candy that gets tossed to onlookers as it's just after a parade).
    Seeing it once a year keeps it in the mind of the people.

    • @DonPatrono
      @DonPatrono 8 месяцев назад

      I mean, unless you were hitting up the bank of a MAJOR city, at the time there was no "We want the bank's money, not your money, your money is insured by the Federal Government and you won't lose a dime", in small towns on the Frontier, banks held directly the savings of the townsfolks and the government couldn't care less, so of course the citizenship felt much more involved in quelling an eventual robbery
      Plus, unless you had a Wyatt Earp sheriff a la "NO GUNS ALLOWED IN THIS TOWN", everyone was packing in order to protect themselves from wildlife, indians, bandits and such

    Probably one of the less famous gunfighters was Luke Short who was involved in several gunfights. His most famous three gunfights were almost always at very close range and occurred because one or both of the men involved misconstrued what was going on and, in fear for their lives, drew weapons. The concept of a good guy/bad guy standing in the street at what was in reality rather long range and drawing simultaneously almost never happened. I believe the only clearly documented such gunfight involved Bill Hickock and and Davis Tutt. While most movie gunfights are patterned after that one, it was more remarkable because of its rarity rather than it being a common example. In most gunfights in the west, very much like today, the opponents knew one another and the reason for the fight was fairly trivial.

    The point you made about the bank robbery being rare is so cool because that’s the only profitable bank in the whole game, the rest of the robberies are a letdown unless it’s a train or a stagecoach and most of the time there is a lack or physical currency. The best thing in the game to find is gold bars or ingots.

    Hickok fight took place in springfield On July 21, 1865, the two men faced off in Springfield's town square, standing sideways before drawing and firing their weapons. Their quick-draw duel was recorded as the first of its kind.[28] Tutt's shot missed, but Hickok's struck Tutt through the heart from about 75 yards (69 m) away. My biggest complaint weaponwise is Rockstar making their Navy revolver look like a cap and ball (which could take at least 6+ minutes to reload) and making it more accurate and powerful than the Cattleman revolver. I like the Cattleman and I like the Navy revolver, but at least make the Navy a Conversion model with conversion art. The Colt Navy conversion was a powerful and accurate sidearm...still can't see why they did cap and ball artwork on it. (And they really, really need to put a Remington in there...rugged, accurate, powerful and a lot more common than the LeMat. The LeMat was powerful but it was clunky, heavy, relatively slow and above all, it was rare compared to the other weapons available.)
