They have a huge discography, and I haven't been able to locate this song anywhere. However, there IS a really rare, very expensive 4-disc compilation called "Electronic Orgy: The Rare Songs Selection" which features a track called "Unicorn Theme"--is this the same recording?
Beautiful score. Man, growing up during the 80’s was a real gift - great music, great toys, great comic books, and of course, great films. The fantasy/sci-fi films were particularly memorable and not so easily imitated.
Man this movie mesmerizes me. Even as a child, I wasn't scared by Tim Curry's character, the Lord of Darkness. He fascinated me. I loved him of all the characters the most... even though I'll always be on Goodness' side. :)

I can truly say that this movie, and a big part of that being the Tangerine Dream score, has had such an impact on my life since I was a toddler. This is the first movie I ever remember... I was about 3 years old when I first saw it. My "imaginary friends" were Jack and Lily when I was a kid. This movie and score digs up so much nostalgia for me. It is the epitome of a fairytale fantasy/good VS evil. It is truly difficult to describe the feelings I get while watching this film or listening to the score... words don't do it justice. Comfort, nostalgia, whimsy, curiosity, sadness, fear, love, hope...
This track is haunting, evocative and as magical as the movie itself! When that pan flute plays, accompanied by the instruments in the background, it transports the listener to the fantasy realm of Jack, Lily, the Unicorns, the Fairy, Oona, the pixie trolls and the goblins. Music from a surreal dreamworld... You wish that you could be swept away into the enchantment of the melodies forever!
This move was epic, the was beautiful yet moving not only mind but soul as well swimming in the vast oceans of light vs dark love and hate so much was imparted into the musical score and movie it stands the test of time.
It was about time I looked up "gestalt." It's 2020, and when I first saw this in the theatre in the spring of 1986, and I was blown away. I have been viewing Meg Mucklebones too often. Didn't know that was her name, and thought it a male or sexless swamp denizen. Working on a faerie tale to this immortal music.
3:00 the moment you see the dead male Unicorn is sad enough, but when you see the female come and mourn her mate is even more sad. Especially when you see Jack slowly going toward her as she whines and cries. The moment you see him bow to her and say "Forgive me... I meant no wrong..." You can't help but cry for both them and the situation. Especially when you realize theirs still a chance to help not only bring back the world to normal, but bring back the horn to the lost unicorn. Such a powerful scene and moment with this music. Truly powerful.
This song is getting me by since my darks times from 1987 till now. Things keep getting worse every year. My best year was 2007 and I’m hoping that 2021 will be good, and if not I’m buying a 2021 year just to be happy.

@@tyrantgregcagkaiju71I think the same imagination goes into the CGI part of the movie, I think what you mean is it just doesn't look the same as an actual prop, but movies these days are a mixture of both props and CGI, but CGI can if used properly can give the same effect as an actual prop, imagination isn't just limited to the use of props.
Dene Robbins Yes, that’s about what I meant. CGI can seem very distracting when it’s not properly rendered (I Am Legend, or the prequel to The Thing), or if it’s done when it’s completely unnecessary (the baby from Twilight: Breaking Dawn). Practical effects are also more admirable when I glimpse them, as I can cast a lot of respect to the crew that spent so much time, money and effort into putting this prop(s) together and bringing to life so effectively (Terminator and Jurassic Park). Sometimes, when it comes to CGI, I feel like the filmmakers are just being lazy, as they’re use of digital effects has often turned out to be rather excessive, making it look like they barely put much energy into it. Not to mention, as I previously stated, digital rendering is a lot easier to notice than anything practical, which hurts the suspension of disbelief. That’s why I have such a soft spot for the Showa era Godzilla and Gamera movies.

It changes the entire feel of the movie. I bought a copy by accident and I immediately knew "THIS IS NOT LEGEND", (my spirit said to me). Part of the magic of this movie is the Music! It transports me time and again. And that deep RED writing in the beginning of the film, is enchantment ❤️🎼🎼🎼❤️every time

This soundtrack, along with the atmospheric sets and cinematography, created such a bizarre and fascinating viewing experience. It felt like a dream that turned into a nightmare. Very, very weird, but very entrancing. It was like one big long fever dream. It ends and you're like "Um...what did I just watch!?" The weak part of the film, for me, was actually Tom Cruise. Maybe it's his acting, maybe it's his look or his costumes, or maybe it's the way his character is written, but he's very wooden and boring. The other characters are all WAY more interesting.
I agree. I really think for cruise it was thr fact he was young and new to the acting world. I also think the writing for him could have been better. They should have given him more depth and didn't.

Sorry, this still isn't the full version. It's faded out at the end. It's missing the final 10 seconds or so, when the song comes to a natural conclusion. When TD played this in concert, they played it right to the end. I don't think I've ever heard a studio version played to the end.
You're thinking of a different "song" although the melody is the same. TD have a song called Beyond the cottage and the lake which is what they play in concert.

I just downloaded a couple of different versions on iTunes of the unicorn theme and tangerine dream loved by the sun but it doesn’t compare to this version here it’s by far the best
When the directors cut starts I know its a major mistake to not let this song introduce the movie. The directors cut is nothing compared to the US theatrical version. The music is what made the movie amazing.

Not sure how this can be called rare when it's available on CD
When the directors cut starts I know its a major mistake to not let this song introduce the movie. The directors cut is nothing compared to the US theatrical version. The music is what made the movie amazing.
