- Okroshka is an old Russian recipe of cold summer soup that is very light and is very good for you. Ingredients include but are not limited to: cucumber, radishes, green onion, dill, boiled eggs, 2.5 cups lowfat kefir, 2.5 cups sparkling mineral water and 1-2 tsp salt. You can also include either or all: shredded cooked chicken, ham, bologna, boiled potatoes, mustard, vinegar. Grate or chop everything, mix and chill. Thank you for watching ♥
I think many of us would love it if you showed us more Russian recipes that you enjoy.
XxBREWxX, thank you! I will! 😁
Sassy Masha Vlogs I Absolutely agree! This is so different from anything I've ever eaten, so I'm excited to learn about it!
How about a Russian honey cake 😍
Or that soup with beets
And this look delicious 😋
Ohhh I used to eat this at my godfather's! He is russian, but unfortunately is living his last days because of Alzheimer. I will try your recipe in his honor. It's such a good soup. I love it.
I bet he would love a bowl.
I am not sure... he refuses to eat now... He is a strong man, he lived such an incredible life. He is 96. He went through world war II, and went through so much, you have no idea! My father once interviewed him for a radio program here in Canada. I couldn't believe what he went through. But sadly, now, he remembers nothing and is in a wheelchair...
Liking out of respect for him and for your obvious love of him. Alzheimer's is tough :(
Alzheimer's is a rough road. God bless you...
*gets ASMR from Maria’s vlogs*
YOUR BIO. IM A VIRGO AND IN CHICAGO

Emily sane
@@Emily-ud2dm did you guys get together tho? im curious now
My wife is from Russia, and she prepares traditional Russian dishes every day. Me and my family must have been Russians in a previous life as we all LOVE her cooking. I have never eaten more healthy food in my life, and so tasty!
More Russian Recipes!! 😍
Can you make the chicken patties like you did for your husband when you two first met ?! Thank you love you 😍
nari han, YES! I forgot about those. Good call 🤗❤
Sassy Masha Vlogs you’re amazing and you made me smile so much for replying 😀thank you !!
nari han she did it!! Lol
abbey and dominique haha yes she did :)
@@SassyMashaVlogs I made your chicken patties from the ASMR video when you made them. They are delish. My husband and I have them regularly
This video inspired me and I made the soup tonight. I live in Texas and cold soup sounded perfect for this hot weather. It was DELICIOUS!! I followed her recipe and now have a new favorite food.
Haven't heard much from you on this channel lately. I know it's silly but I worry about you like a mama. Is she Ok? Is the new house still working out? All that stuff. You do so much for others, just know we are here for you too. Much love.
Eluna A. Shes probably talking care and not pushing herself to upload lots of content. Some times in life you have lots of time and energy and inspiration - and other times you want to rest.
I worry about her too! I don’t think that’s weird at all. 😊
steeoked I get that, I guess it's just that I've seen in her past videos how she can get so emotionally down and lonely and she's so sensitive. I just wonder and hope she's ok during long stretches of silence. I know she posts ASMR vids more frequently but those are her work, and say nothing about how her heart is. Sometimes I even feel like when I watch her ASMR vids I can tell how she is because I see joy or sadness in her eyes. For example, in her metal elements video she seems sad, but in her We Shell Relax video she seems genuinely happy. Wow I am really over thinking this....dear brain, please shut up.
Eluna A. Thats sweet! I bet she really appriciates such caring fans ❤ i guess what im trying to say is that, just bc she doesnt upload alot of content here, doesnt mean she is sad or having a hard time. She might just b doing other things. But i also understand that you get worried bc this is basically all the connection we have with her and its natural to become worried when that connection is changed. I guess im a little less over thinking... But then again, the world needs both kinds! :)
steeoked Yep. I agree. It's funny because she has no idea who I am but I feel so intimately connected to her. I've fallen asleep with her for so many nights, and she helped me through a rough divorce. I guess I consider her a friend.
I believe that this soup was created out of necessity. Think about when and where too. The area was poor and needed to make something substantial to fill their bellies So they used what they had. ( or didn’t have like heat). Necessity is the mother of invention!!
Elle Groover, absolutely agree with you. I have noticed many traditional dishes are just a bunch of seasonal ingredients from local areas mixed together. 😊 Our grandma's are the real pioneers and chefs!
yes exactly right. every culture has this dilema and they use what is readily available. it’s something we all have in common.
Like ratatoullie and basically the majority of soups. My mother calls turnip soup "peasant" soup because it's just common found veg at the time like turnips, potatoes and salt.
this is excellent for the summer. It reduces the heat of the body and all the ingredients are refreshing and light and that's what is needed in hot summers, not heavy, oily etc. In other words, it reduces Pitta, the fire element. So try it in the hot summer days and enjoy it.
Elle Groover I thought the same thing when she made the beef patties with the filler
This is so cool! Cold soup is rather foreign to me but seems like a great idea. I love that this recipe is vegetarian with the option of adding meat or not - a lot of soups rely on animal broth so I can’t eat them :( Always a pick me up to see a video from you - thank you! 💜💜
Indigo yes, me too! I guess I’m more talking about when I try and order soups at restaurants or eat them at other peoples’ houses. Mushroom broth is really good 😌
Pity eggs though :((
Sandra laffey Feel so sorry for you:/ Can’t imagine how you survive..
Best Hagi very very very well. 23 years of no eggs well !!! Choice.!! The animals have none. U idiot
Sandra laffey Oh my.. 23 years? Your parents must be really proud. Some achivement you got there. Hope they tell you how awesome you are.
Regards,
Vegetarian
I think I’ll make this next week. It remind me a little of tzatziki but extra! Thank you for sharing!
If you were my friend in real life I would always be napping around you. Your voice gives me tingles even when you aren't trying. 😁
MMMMMM The Russian gazpacho! ;-) Iwill definitely try it. Besos desde España
You are just such a kind good person
I made this yesterday and it was AMAZING! I've been making my own kefir every day for years. I usually just drink it straight for the health benefits and, although I don't mind the taste, it isn't exactly a pleasure. This soup is DELICIOUS and provides veggies as well as probiotics and protein. I had never heard of this soup and would never have thought of combining these ingredients but it is SO GOOD! Thank you, Maria. You help me destress, sleep and now have provided my new favorite recipe and summer food staple. And all of this for FREE! I hope all of the positivity you put out into the world comes back to you and your family in droves!
Seems so refreshing for a hot summer day
I’m Mexican and I had this last night for the first time and I loved it!!! 🤞🏼
Ahhhh thank you! I was adopted from Russia when I was 3 and it would be awesome to be able to make russian dishes
Ayyyy this is great! You should show us how to make herring under a fur coat sometime 🙏😌
Whoa this looks so distinctive and yummy! Thanks for sharing
In Poland we have a very similar dish which is also served with potatoes and it's scrummy
Zofia Anna there is a Russian soup called holodniy borsht (cold borsht), and it is exactly what you describe it to be. Very similar ingredients to this--the egg, the cucumber, radish, and dill, as well as a pink broth due to the beets. And of course--a dollop of sour cream on top.
These cooking videos NEVER get old
Her normal voice is SO soothing 😍
I can't wait to make this once again. Thank you Maria!!! You are a lifesaver! We are about to have a big heatwave!!!
Can you show/make more russian dishes on your channel? Would be nice in asmr as well😊 I would love to learn more about other cultures dishes! Would also love if you showed not only dishes, but also things that are common in russia🤷🏻♀️ Loved this video, good work👌🏻😍
And i will absolutally try this😉
I feel like I don't know much about Russian food. But watching your videos about the recipes and the culture is so enjoyable! Love you so much!
Looks yummy. Definitely will try that. More Russian recipes please 😋
Why is the music sooooo relaxing OMG!!🤩
I love all your videos about russian culture.
Watching these when I have no food. It’s like I’m eating it. ❤️ thank you.
I'm Italian but I had a dinner in a Russian house and I tried this dish.. this is good for real! Thanks from the recipe Masha
I eat Kefir in my smoothies!! Not many people know about all of the nutrients in it! It is AWESOME for gut health! Love cold soups, I am going to make this.
What an absolutely beautiful soup! Thank you for sharing with us❤
2022 will forever love your cooking videos 😭❤️
I love cold, savory soups in the summer. It's not something I eat often, but when I've had them, they were delish. Perfect when you want a light meal that cools you down.
I loooove this soup. Can eat it everyday.
Looks so fresh! And it looks so beautifull and delicate...looks like a flower pattern from a fabric.!!😆👍👏👏👏
Made this soup tonight, so glad I finally tried it. Delicious.
I love your cooking videos with russian foods :)
Please do more videos like this!! I want to learn a lot of Russian recipes
I got this vid in recommended. Went out and bought the ingredients and made it and OMG ITS SO GOOD. It's summer here in Australia so it's perfect :) thankyou!
In Turkey we don't add egg. And we call it "cacık". Try to add some dry mint. You'll gonna love it.
Aslıhan Aksoy in Armenia we only add cucumbers and green samit
Aslis Han we dont add redish and add freshly cut mint and tomatoes, and very little water almost dont dilute it much .
Well, this is making my mouth water. It seems like a “spin” on a potato salad. Thanks for sharing this!
I love the passioned way you cooking! Despite the beauty of the dish, you ever tell a good story or memory, so you feed all of us!
i could watch u cook all day! please make more Russian cooking dishes for us!!
This should be in your asmr channel... I enjoyed every moment of it
You are a literal queen and should do a channel just for cooking or do them more often 😍😍😍😍😇😇😇
Here in germany we usually eat only warm soups, but last summer i tried out this recipe and i loved it. I will definitley "cook" this again.
Interesting video; got amazing tingles from the tinkly music and grating!
It looks ABSOLUTELY scrumptious! 🍲🥰
Maria I just wanted to say I made this today and it was so good. Thanks for sharing!
I've made this twice since I first watched your video and I really enjoy it! It turns out I like it more after letting it sit in the fridge for more than 12 hours, the mineral water goes a bit flat and the flavors incorporate better.
I’d love to try that! Russian cuisine is so fascinating.
I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease over 3 years ago and I couldn't eat anything.
Everything upset my stomach. I made this soup and vichyssoise so many times I actually got sick of eating those cold soups (it was Summer) but now I am craving it again in the winter.
I do believe it actually helped me and I drink kefir all the time.
Thank you for sharing this recipe.
I started making this in the summer and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait till the weather warms up again! Perfect food for hot nights.
Then I believe you are also gonna like Spanish Gazpacho.
Then I believe you are also gonna like Spanish Gazpacho.
Finally made it tonight to have tomorrow with lunch. Can't wait to taste it!
Different!! How lovely that it reminds you of home!
I made thus soup last night and it was soooooo good! Thank you for the wonderful recipe; I'd love it if you shared more Russian recipes!
I'm Puerto Rican and in my culture the cuisine is VERY hearty with lots of tomato, garlic, onion, cilantro and pepper based foods but this light delicate soup, okroshka, sounds absolutely delicious to me for a nice hot weather dish! I can't wait to try it!! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipes and i sure do hope to see more!
My little sister came to the US from Tula when she was 8. She is now 21 and loves raw radishes, garlic, onions and dill. We laugh that she’s picky but she’ll always say it’s just the Russian in her! I’ll have to make her this soup to try! Thank you for sharing, Masha! 🍲
I'm Mexican and this taste amazing thank you for showing how to do it
I am **SO** making this! It's like an oven here in Atlanta right now, and this would hit the spot.
I love it when you cook Russian dishes, first of all because I love to learn new recipes, and cooking is one of my passions. Second of all, as an Eastern European (Romanian), I know we share a lot of similarities between foods. Our common love for borsch is something that other cultures don't seem to share that much, as it is an acquired taste. We make here "ciorba" which is like a sour soup due to the borsch. I have never tried Okroshka, but I definitely will.
We also like to eat a cold soup here, with red orach ( loboda- also found it translated as pig's weed; what an unfortunate name for such a great plant ) and we put scrambled eggs in it. I will assume that Okroshka is also a bit tangy due to the kefir.
As for weird and bizarre foods, we have the famous "ciorba de burta" or tripe soup in English, basically cow stomach soup, which we eat with garlic, vinegar and lots of sour cream.
HellCat omg we have soups made with ‘loboda’ as well in Bulgaria! And the ciorba de burta is ‘shkembe chorba’ here but it’s made of pig’s belly instead (gross!) :D
As a non Russian I loved this from the first time I tried it.
I’m polish and I had something similar growing up! So good and refreshing!
I really have to say that I get tingles from this video..
someone's here with the same ?
Love you Maria 😍
Обожаю окрошку ) спасибо за видео
I definitely want to try making this, thank you for sharing this recipe!
This looks super good & now I have to try it! Thanks for the recipe, Maria!
5 years ago you blessed us with the Russian table video and I’ve watched it every single night since dreaming you would post a video like this!! 🙏🏻🙌🏼
Wow I love this old school Maria video!!
Такую диетическую окрошку ни когда не ела...но блин на столько аппетитно вы её кушаете,что сделаю так обязательно!
woah this is so interesting! right now we're having the worst hot weather ever ....so why not? I'll give it a try
How was it
It’s good 👍
Saw this video when I woke up in the morning, on my way home I grabbed some stuff in the supermarket and just finished making it. I have food intolerances so I substituted kefir for coconut and soy yoghurt but it turned out great! I already ate some of it bcs i can't wait for it to chill a bit. :D I loooove cold soups, tourists are always shocked when they see we have cold fruit soups in my country, I donno what is so strange about that. So I really enjoyed this recipe, thanks a lot Maria! :)
Cold fruit soup sounds DELICIOUS. What country are you from? I would love to try some recipes. I think my kids would like them a lot. :)
Jazzgirlpdx I am from Hungary :)
Definitely would love to see more traditional Russian meals prepared
I loved this video! I would love to learn about other traditional Russian recipes too!
I’m excited to try this today! My husband lived in Russia a while. He misses the cuisine. So I like fixing your authentic recipes for him.
I know this isn't supposed to be asmr but your talking voice gives me tingles
You're right...this is so different from what we are used to in the states! So fascinating, thank you for sharing

I LOVE when you share Russian recipes! This soup reminds me of one my grandma used to make. Looks delicious!
Such a pretty dish with the bits of red from the radish. ❤️
10 Days ago a Russian Friend show me this soup and now this Video :D so Great and delicious
Love this style of recipe videos from you. Your Russian food video from years ago is still my favorite!
I can’t imagine what it tastes like with the sparkling water in there, but the rest of the ingredients I would enjoy!
you’re amazing. i love you and your videos with my whole heart.
Окрошка это замечательно , а ещё я люблю её с квасом , пальчики оближешь !
I love weird foods. I am so intrigued. My mouth is watering.
I imagine it taste similar to potato salad, with the onion potatoes egg and creamy taste. Lovely 😊
Looks yummy. Thanks for sharing. I want to try this soup.
I always think of Russian people being very hardy and healthy, and this meal full of minerals, vitamins and probiotics probably explains why I think that. 💕🤗
This soup looks delicious - thank you for sharing x
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing I love learning about new foods from around the world!💜
Definitely going to try this, quite fond of all the ingredients (except maybe radish, but I imagine the freshness & heat it adds is necessary). Has sparked off some very interesting comments, great that we can all connect over food and our ancestors!
I made it tonight and it was fantastic !! So easy, so tasty...and quick. You gotta try it !!
My first time hearing of this soup. Thank you
