I hate hearing fellow Americans still call Russia “Soviet”
Because not much changed since then. It's still a authoritarian dictatorship, they refuse to acknowledge war crimes of Soviet era, like Katyn's massacre, they still adore Stalin, and even the anthem still has the same music.

Olivye is very appreciated in Italy; we call it "Insalata russa" (translated Russian salad)
Funny cuz it was first made by a Frenchman named Oliver
In Russia tho

Oliver Sutton Frenchman? Olivier was Belgian.
Same in Greece
As a Russian its so unusual seeing people go
"wow that looks so unappetizing"
at such every day dishes like potato salad.
its actually funny how frightened they got attempting to eat some of these
I used to make oliveyi and bring it to a potluck lunch at work. Tell everyone its a fancier potato salad and they loved it lol.
For Olivye the ratio of cream, mayonnaise and salt can really make it or break it. And since everyone likes it differently, they should just have had the testers dress the salad to taste themselves.
russian salad dishes are how east asians( japan, china, taiwan, korea) picture what real salad is like - lots of diced root vegetables + boiled eggs + diced ham+ mayonaisse. that's kind of salads asian bakery make for western sandwiches in east asia.
leaves based salad dishes from europe or america are rather new introduction to east asia in the past two to three decades. before, it was always russian style salad....

Russia due to it's geographical position literally got influenced by West and East and has many of their neighbors' dishes in an adopted version. Also, depending on the region of Russia you will have some regional specialties like beshbarmak or stroganina that not all Russians know
Don’t worry sis I have a feeling they don’t invite you to parties anyways

They ate ikra without making faces but they couldn't take the potato salad.
Please.
Thank you!!!!
That potato salad made me wanna throw up
The potato salad looked good. Raw fish eggs and butter, no.
It's not a potato salad. It's like calling a Caesar salad a potato salad. It contains: potato, carrots, peas, pickeled cucumbers, boiled eggs, more or less mayonese (personally I like it with less), ham and chicken breasts. In Italy they sometimes put olives instead of pickles and instead of ham and chicken they put tuna. My kids love it.
@@daniby9894, looks like potato salad to me. They've just added a meat/protein. Everything else is the potato salad I grew up with.
I was about to say in my family we eat the same salad (we're latinos) and realized it's called ensalada rusa (Russian salad) and facepalmed so hard

No papaa, no es lo mismo, la ensalada rusa tiene menos engridientes , tampoco tiene carne ,,
In Brazil, it’s literally called “maionese” (mayonnaise), which is pretty confusing 😂😂
In Mexico too, and it's delicious.

My Mom worked with a bunch of Russians, and they were amazing cooks and just generally wonderful people. They brought food over after a surgery and found out i devoured all of it. So they just kept making and sending food home for me. God i miss that. They were such dearhearts.

Why is fussing about food about culture? It's funny when people react. There's a reason "people eating really hot things" is a whole range of videos. The Russians interactions with Persia/Iran and the Muslim world in general it's even possible that both dishes started out in Persia or might have been left following one of the occupations of the Russians , both the British and the Russians occupied Iran in world war 2. Mayo is garbage juice.
Americans easy mixing mayonnaise ketchup

My experience tought me that people are accustomed to some certain food combo and flavours since they were kids so their perception 'd differ. Not because they want to insult or criticize your national cuisine.Objectively speaking, the beets and herring combo is kind of odd.Things like kvas, pickled water melons, the coated herring or meat-jelly 'd be really different for people from Mediterranean countries. For people from Easten Europe it used to be strange to eat frog legs or raw fish. And I know some Slavic kids' d find say artichokes disgusting simply because it's way too different for them. There is

No one cares.
Kaiser Drew well, I care. Don’t make it our tradition, cause it’s not :)
Well maybe they mix it up with other slavs, for example we say that in Poland and I'm pretty sure Chech and Slovakian ppl also use it. And let's just say Americans are not the best at knowing stuff about other cultures. (Obviously not defending them just guessing what the origin might be).
It's so strange seeing people being so shocked about food that is so normal for you
Nobody say "na zdorovie" in Russia. Stop it!
Then what is bon appetit in Russian?

Whoever prepared that furcoat salad doesn't know how to cook. Unless something went completely wrong, I don't see how it could taste bad. It's such an amazing dish
Какая гадость эта ваша заливная рыба
dreamphoenix000 hahaha yes!!! Thank you for making my night sir!
селедку под шубой мало кто умеет делать, очень часто именно что гадость получается, но несколько раз мне посчастливилось скушать нормальное блюдо, но конечно много и часто такое не едят, в основном в охотку когда именно вдруг захотелось

Oh, I think I need to go watch that now!
😂😂😂😂😂
So I've been watching a lot of "Americans try..." videos lately and here are a few things I noticed about Americans (this does not apply to everybody but is just based on what I've seen in these kind of videos):
1.they like food with a lot of sugar in it
2.they seem to not really like fish (sushi is an exception), or meats that are not pig, cow or chicken
3.they like cheese, but not all of them, more like, cheese flavoured stuff and one of those melting kind
4.they are very picky about vegetables, what kind and how they are prepared
5.they don't like stuff that's dry or too bready (has a lot of bread in it?)
6.very judgemental of how the food looks/is presented on a plate (this one is honestly the only one that bothers me because alot of them miss out on the experience of trying new food because they are too focused on how it looks)
-tbh i don't think any of these are negative things, except no.6, but it does help us foreigners understand better what tipe of food Americans like and don't like.... very fascinating
Good observation sir 🤘
We're picky, we live in a country with a metric shitload of food options. We can choose what we like.
Most of this is not true like the fish one i have seen so many people who love fish
Oh, for heaven's sake, this mismash is neither scientific nor broadly observational, just some blowhard's grab for attention. I see nothing in the report that is even remotely related to American practice or, worse, at all true.
Aka Americans have no taste
Bro I grew up eating all of these, still love them. As a first generation Slavic American, I can say I absolutely love the traditional Russian food
Oof…you would never understand a Russian-Ukranian childhood I had……

No disrespect intended to the poster of this video, but I have eaten at Russian restaurants and found their food delicious. I would have liked that you included a borscht at least, so Americans could have tasted a real staple of their food.
The sardines are gold because they are smoked and then kept in oil)) By the way, the fish is whole- its smoked so much that the bones become mushy and its all edible
We have sardines in the states too just not smoked. At least I haven't seen smoked sardines yet. I'd love to try them.
