  • ✚ Hello friends! Mood trackers are super popular in the bullet journal community. In this video, I have separated mood trackers into three main categories, and I'll talk a bit about a few different ways to track your mood within each category. I'll also try to answer the most important question: are mood trackers really that helpful?
    ✚ Still haven't figured out the glitch problem haha.

    i have anxiety and depression, so its really helpful for me to have a record of my overall feelings. for mood tracking i find that a coloring book style really works for me in that i can easily see overall trends and the actually act of filling it out and thinking about my moods feels therapeutic. i totally agree with you about needing more than one color per day tho, and i find that my most successful mood trackers have allowed for multiple moods per day while not being so complicated i cant summon the energy to fill them out.
    for example, last october my mood tracker was a page of pumpkins, and i would color them according to my most prevalent moods during the day: bright yellow highlights for happy moments, green spots where it was just ok, brown spots for bouts of depression, etc. i also combine this with regular journaling so i have a space to share more complex thoughts. i definitely want to try out mood lettering in the future tho!

    • @mochibujo
      @mochibujo  4 года назад +11

      This is a very interesting way to do it! It's really cool that we can have so many different ways to track our mood I think. It seems like the way you did it with the pumpkins allowed you to really think about your emotions that day, so I can see how it was therapeutic. I hope you can beat your depression one day, Teddy!

    A few years ago I was having serious depression and using mood trackers in my journal. I often used more than one color a day. I usually did a line spread a day as well. Plus I often had some type of gratitude page or affirmations page. These things definitely helped my mental health improve over time.

    I know this is an older video, but thank you for making it.
    I also found myself struggling against the limitations of the mood trackers I've seen online. The example you used, while extreme has, in a way, happened to me. I had a lovely day, where I got to go to a concert, be with my friend, I even conquered a fear of mine (heights) etc. But when driving home from the concert (7PM), we got the news that a relative of mine passed away. Another example, I was celebrating my birthday when we got the news that the current situation had gotten so bad, that we were being issued a Stay at Home order.
    Mood is complicated, and I thank you for taking the time to balance between that complexity and still having a tracker that it manageable to fill out. It will help me in my journey as a bullet journal-er. Have a lovely day! :D

    I use a combined sleep and mood tracker with the days of the month on the y-axis and the hours of the day on the x-axis. My mood ranges from very sad - sad - happy - slightly angry - angry - furious. By different colours I can identify precisely when I was in which mood and even for how long that stayed. For example I can draw a thin line to indicate five minutes of anger at ten am or a three-hour-block of happines because I had tea and talk with a friend... And on the opposite page I write down shortly the cause.

    • @mochibujo
      @mochibujo  4 года назад +3

    • @itsameelliot
      @itsameelliot 4 года назад +8

      @@mochibujo Yeah, exactly. So sometimes I'd fill in up to three, four or five different colors each day. I mean, for someone that literally always feels tired, it would've been an easy excuse to just make myself color in each day with the color for "tired" and say that I'm done. lol Instead, I forced myself to actually think and reflect more on my feelings that way.

    Oh... I just picked up my first mood journal to help with my therapy work and didn't realize the pixels and month wheels were one color. I was filling them up like stacked bar charts LOL. 50% content, 10% anxious, 2% angry, 18% hurt, 20% exhausted. Especially if your wheel boxes are long, it's not hard to approximate I think.
    I looked up this video because it came with no instructions but maybe it's ok that it didn't, because I could decide a method that worked for me! 😊

    I like the simplest yearly tracker because then I can see the entire year at once. I'm not a fan of having to flip through and look at each month individually. I also track my periods in a yearly spread, so I can compare my mood tracker to my period tracker and see how my cycle influences my mood. I put more than one mood per day though and will cut boxes in half diagonally to account for that. But I also journal almost daily, separate from my bullet journal, so I could always find a weird mood pattern in my tracker and head over to my journal to find out what happened to cause it.

    Being honest, you're right, personally I like mood trackers because it look nice, and could take a lot of time and sometimes I don't even fill all the spaces or I make it up hahaha but I like to put time doing it and personally it helps me not to register my mood but rather how I was the day, I like to write down options such as "motivated", "lazy", "tired", etc.

    I completely agree with you! When I first started tracking my mood in my journal, I almost always used colors. I found that that was just too much of a hassle for me too since sometimes I don’t have my markers with me. What worked for me in the end is the graph tracker of my mood, with colors of the mood on the left (happy, okay, sad, angry/tired, depressed) and the dots on the right. With this, all I have to do is connect the dots. I do daily journaling so it’s alright for me not to see the reason why I felt a certain emotion on a certain day; I can just refer to my daily entries. I also love how I can use multiple dots in one day when I have multiple moods!

    For mood trackers, I find it best to trac my mood in the same pattern you would eat.
    In the morning, in the afternoon, and at night. Specifically what mood am I in when I wake up, what mood am I in around noon, and what mood am I in when I go to sleep. I use a graph tracker with the different lines representing the different times. At one point I also added a line for how I feel starting the work day and ending the work day. But because my schedule fluctuates, so I made a chart under the graph. Since I have a long bus ride for my commute, journaling during this time is rather nice, but I can imagine that if you drive to and fro. You would be more concerned with getting to work or getting home then you would be focusing on your emotions.

    I think one-color trackers or other simple trackers are neat if you’re just looking to log a daily thing. If it makes you happy, go for it. However, if your goal is to find patterns in your moods and achieve more self-awareness, those aren’t the way to go. Mood trackers may be really handy to notice patterns spaced out over time that you wouldn’t notice otherwise, or just things you don’t pay much attention to. You’ll need to be able to make connections between occurrences and moods, if you want to get actual info from it. Like if you took your meds late or started new ones, what the weather was like, how much you slept, etc. Otherwise, with color-a-day, you get little to no useful info.

    Hi! I know this is an old video but it was really helpful. I feel the same about one day color trackers. Honestly, it doesn't give you much room for explanation. And as someone who doesn't journal consistently I think I need something a little more. So, I was thinking of combining the one line a day and the word a month tracker, so the last two. I think it would be interesting that way I can use the categories as well as a few words to describe. Cause while the one line a day is great I think it needs an extra element that the last tracker had. Thanks again! Great video!

Now thanks to you I have got an idea with graphic that combines my actual mood and line for "how I could react based on my memories of myself". gee I didnt realize that mood trackers were only for certain people and certain situations. I just recently started using one its s simple tracker and for me it simply reminds me of what kind of mood I am in each day. with covid changing our lifestyles it sometimes helps to track our moods. as for changing moods each day, I do not go to my journal several times a day. if I am drawing in it I do it all in the morning that is when I record my feelings my blood pressure ect. I don't find it necessary to go back and change things through out the day. if I concentrated on my mood that much I would be depressed most of the time. there are so many other things to do and think of.

  • @syddlinden8966

    i use the year in pixels format because of how condensed it is and still split my days into different colors if there's a big mood shift (bad morning turning into a great afternoon/evening etc) I have a few days where a singe square has 3 stripes of color because the mood shift was important to note. So, they don't necessarily need to stay "single color spreads." ;)
    I keep my colors the same year round and put little notes for depressed vs anxious on bad days, or tired vs low for another color, etc. Then, i pair my monthly habit tracker with my dailies and make sure to write about why i feel like crap on bad days for future reference. I also end up cross-ref'ing with my monthly calendar page as well - for example, when trying to figure why i'm exhausted over the couple days following a stressful appointment or couple long shifts at work.

    You earned a subscription from me, because we have alot of the same thoughts regarding moodtrackers. I just started my very first Bullet Journal and was browsing YT for tracker videos and came across this one. Instead of using a moodtracker, im gna use a stress tracker (date, cause, solution) and an "Angry meter" for all sorts of negative emotions with the same parameters, i might also go for a "happy meter" but im not sure about that. Great video, i like the way you think

    • @mochibujo
      @mochibujo  3 года назад

      Your stress tracker idea sounds great! It’s similar to a type of tracker my therapist suggested for me in the past, where you identify the trigger, the feeling/negative thought (reaction), reflect on why, and also reconsider the thought/how can I think about the event in a different way. It’s always good to be solution oriented!☺️ I’m so happy you enjoyed the video, and thank you for subscribing💕

    I've recently seen a variant of the "one-color-a-day" tracker, where you can do a gradient of colors in the area for the color - so similar to your mood range line graph, you can do a gradient between the color that represents the worst you felt that day and the color that represents the best you felt.
    I'm also a fan of combining this with a word, such as coloring in a bad mood color and writing "exhausted" next to it.
    I also use the line and bar graphs during my dailies to track my mood as it relates to stress and energy throughout the day, so I can cross reference those when filling out and analyzing my month view mood tracker.

    I would really like to know how to control anxiety if you haven’t done a journal video on that could you

    • @mochibujo

      I am not a mental health expert, nor am I qualified to talk about mental health in that way, so I probably won’t do a video on how to control anxiety. So sorry about that! But hopefully you can find some other videos on my channel that you can enjoy🥰

    In my opinion the one-dimensional mood trackers were not useful for the same reason. They were not giving a full/deep enough picture I could use to actually track how I was feeling. Even dividing it to morning/afternoon/bedtime blocks helped.

    Can’t you just blend two colors together or just put to colors on the same thing for the same day.
    (I don’t mean for this to sound rude in any way if that’s how this is being portrayed)

    I think it was a great idéa to show different mood trackers and how they can work. But I was sad to find your predjudice so prevalient just because something does not work for you (you repatatively "thrashed" some trackers and peoples use of them insted of just highlighting your favourits). Your negativism may deter others from trying.
    For me it is really good to keep track of my overall mood in a day since l have som problems... and I have never felt the need to limit myself to just one color.
    I wish you would have had more of an open mind doing this video (and maybe a more creative stance to the trackers instead of following rules) wich was great to watch but sad to listen to.
    Sorry for what may look like a negative entry. It is meant to be constructive.

    • @mochibujo
      @mochibujo  4 года назад

      I’m sorry that I came across as overly negative. I have tried so many mood trackers in my 3 years of bullet journaling, and many of them have been disappointing, and I’ve often felt “tricked” in a way, by “big bujoers” who promise great productivity and mindfulness when the spreads suggested haven’t worked for me at all. So in a way, I wanted to share a more realistic approach to mood trackers, which in my opinion is that mood trackers don’t work for everyone, and certainly hasn’t worked well for me (except for those that use words instead of scales and colors). So that has been my intention for this video.
      I agree that I could’ve explored different ways to use the different trackers, so I take full responsibility for that. However, it would’ve become a very long video if I were to go more in-depth into all of these trackers and different ways to use them, and my experience on RUclips is that people don’t want to watch super long videos most of the time 😟
      Thank you for taking the time to write your comment!❤️
