      2.4 GHz (or the lack of 5 Ghz) connectivity, shouldn't be viewed as a limitation. The range (distance) of 2.4 GHz is typically farther than 5 GHz, and given the very low data rate used by a smart lock, the relatively narrow bandwidth (normally 20 MHz) of a 2.4 GHz channel, as compared to a 5 GHz channel (40 or more MHz), is inconsequential in this application.

    2 misstatements. 1) The Schlage Encode can accept other cylinders, there's just one screw holding in the cylinder. 2) The Schlage Encode can also integrates with AirBnB. The higher security rating, the superior construction, and the 3 year warranty go hand-in-hand, and made it the logical choice for me. After all, all tech aside, you want a lock that will best secure your property.

    • @patricknourse9995
      @patricknourse9995 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, it was my understanding that one could change the cylinder as well. I find it odd that a locksmith would omit this. Especially, because it will accept all pin high security cylinders than one can swap into any other Schlage deadbolt.

    Useful video, good idea to use our skillset this way! I wanted to note that in your cut in you mentioned the Schlage and Kwikset are all or nothing, which is true here. However the Schlage sense lockset requires a wifi module that can be added later if desired making it another contender in this conversation. I believe it also works with z wave but would need to check the product page to be sure. I've got a customer that ordered 4 encodes today and discovered they are hard to get this week, this video compares the exact options I am considering! So many other reviews talk about the tech stuff only, and skip over the core lock functions. Speaking of which, I read that Kwickset drain batteries very quickly. Is that your experience? How do these brands compare on battery life?

    I live in FL and have had absolutely terrible luck with Schlage. The Encode is not weather sealed therefor it easily goes down to corrosive salt air and, even worse, humidity! They are constantly dying. Warranty has replaced them but it is a huge hassle. Schlage support acknowledges the Encode has issues, and engineers are working on a fix. I just converted to Yale out of frustration.

    PLEASE NOTE: Early 2000s, I went with Schlage as their locks have high security rating (mentioned in video). But, after 1 year, you could literally see the numbers pressed on my keypad (big negative) as the Schlage interface is not glass like the Yale. I called Schlage and they sent out a new one with no problem (plus on the company). I plan on going with Yale since video confirms re-keying to any other brand which is big. Also, the glass interface should eliminate (hopefully) the wear on the numbers and ability for threats to figure out passcode.

Other reviews mentioned not to use those two together. Are you familiar with Baldwin keyless pads? Can I use what I have together? I really like your videos.

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  3 года назад

      There's no reason you couldn't use them together. I suspect they are referring to being able to key them the same (use one key to unlock both locks, the Assure override key and the entry lever key), so that will depend on which keyway your Yale and Baldwin have. In many cases they will both be Schlage and you'll be able to key them to one key.

    Hey, this video is great, than you so much for your work. I have a door with a deadbolt and then underneath it, there is also a keyed lever that can be locked from the inside with a small button. So it feels that the door has double security. I am thinking about adding smart locks to my setup. One of the reasons is to get rid of the keys. So my question is, what is the recommended setup then for the lever? I mean I don't want to add 2 keypads, it would be weird. I think some people just replace the keyed lever by a lever without key or so, but then isn't the security reduced in half? I would really appreciate it if you could please let me know what you think, what would be the recommended setup? What do people do when they have 2 keys? Thanks.

      We've never installed one so I cannot honestly say. However, two things to note. I know that rekeying this lock to your house key will void the warranty. That makes me pretty skeptical about the overall quality of the lock if something so common voids the warranty. I couldn't believe it so I confirmed this is true with their online customer support. They call it an unauthorized modification. Secondly, I'm always very skeptical of fingerprint technology put into such cheaply made products. Even on $1000+ safes, we've only ever found one fingerprint technology that seemed to work correctly. The issue is you get false positives and negatives. A false positive is when someone not enrolled comes up and the lock lets them in. False negative is when someone enrolled can't get in. Not saying that's a problem here, I've never used the lock, but I've seen it over and over and over again on other inexpensive biometric locks.

      There are no double cylinder smart locks that I am aware of. Plus, none that are weatherproof for an outside gate because they are designed for houses where half the lock is on the inside of the home. Best you could do would be a double sided mechanical code lock, our favorites is by Lockey.

      The only gotcha is the initial setup phone must be on the network and that's the phone that the account and everything would be set up in. You're going to have to dive down into a manufacture's customer support for that one.
