I do home improvements including door installation, I always tell the homeowner that Schlage is the only good residential one. If the striker is slightly hitting the plate after figuring out where it's hitting you can take a Dremel and grind a little bit off the edge of the striker plate. If you're only removing a little bit you can't even talk but if it's any worse you have to remove it and relocate it in the proper place. If you need to move the striker plate just remove the screws and hammer golf tees into the holes, then score of the golf tees and break them off. This will keep the screws from following the existing holes. This technique also fixes screw holes for hinges that are stripped out. They make a special drill bit that will perfectly center the hole for the striker plates and hinge plates. This is well worth the $5 price to be able to perfectly center the hole for the screw. For some reason Home Depot does not carry this drill bit but Lowe's does. If Home Depot does have it I've never been able to find it. Avoiding over tightening all the installation screws is definitely the key to not having the lock binding up.

Why is the hole in the door so large? It seems like a design flaw. The amount of surface area for the lock to attach to, is really minimal. The hole should maybe be 1/3 of the current diameter.
Thanks for your informative video. Unfortunately, however, you did not answer a question I have. My son is incapable of remembering to turn the locking mechanism when he leaves the house. I thought it would be a simple matter to install a keyed, non-pushbutton lock and doorknob set (not a deadbolt) that automatically locks when the door is closed behind you without having to remember to push or turn a button. Can you help me?

@@24hrMrLocksmith For Primus its easier to get bump-keys for. There are only 4 different side-millings. The older Medecos manufactured prior to 2006 like the Biaxial and the M3 can be bypassed easily with a sharpened screwdriver which can turn the tailpiece... but then again ANY deadbolt with a thumbturn can be bypassed with an under door tool.
Don't poo poo the Kwikset dead bolts too quickly. They have the hardened steel collars, and their bolts actually hold up well under a kick attack, using longer screws on the door jamb. The locks also come with pick resistant top pins now making them harder to pick. Schlage makes great bolts but their latches on handle sets and knob sets break more often than others. I myself have the old Schlage B460 dead bolts, with a primus keyway, heavy duty strikes and I have steel ball bearings inserted into the mounting screw holes to prevent drilling the mounting screws off.
Well, somebody's spelled it "Schalge" in this video. I suspect from the correct spelling, "Schlage", and from the time the company was established that this could be a German name. So, you could say 'Shlager' with a long 'ah' sound on the 'a' and a hard 'g'.

@@cybersonic8472 I just purchased B60N from Home Depot and I am doing a video on the comparison between Locksmith suppler B60N and Big Box Hardware B60N
Good information and we'll presented, thank you for sharing your knowledge 👍
Which is the best door knob lock?
Mr L...great videos...
I need assistance removing and thumb lock Abloy deadbolt and or having it rekeyed.
Greg
Where can I purchase the b60 n residential lock? I can’t find it on Amazon or Lowes. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Ugh, contact the manufacturer directly?
Any update on the Locksmith Supplier / Contractor B60N vs. the Home Depot B60N? I picked up a Mr. Locksmith membership to see if you had the video you teased on this topic in the member section, but I didn't see one. I'm having trouble finding the six-pin version you featured in this video and would love to buy a few through you if possible.
I can't find that video either.
Why is the hole in the door so large? It seems like a design flaw. The amount of surface area for the lock to attach to, is really minimal. The hole should maybe be 1/3 of the current diameter.
I live in an apt I'm being terrified by people picking my lock
What’s the best door knob?
Thanks for your informative video. Unfortunately, however, you did not answer a question I have. My son is incapable of remembering to turn the locking mechanism when he leaves the house. I thought it would be a simple matter to install a keyed, non-pushbutton lock and doorknob set (not a deadbolt) that automatically locks when the door is closed behind you without having to remember to push or turn a button. Apparently, no such thing exists, which surprises me. I’ve already talked to a locksmith and been to Lowes, Menards and Ace Hardware, but no luck. I can’t believe what I’m looking for does not exist. Can you help me?
you need to get a commercial lock and door closer that are meant for a hotel door. And hide some keys in the yard.
I love Mickey and Minnie Mouse
Hey, where can I buy this lock since you said the big box versions aren't the same? And I can't find the comparison video you mention in this one, did you make that? You talked me into this lock but now I don't know which version to buy? :)
At your local Locksmith Shop
I saw someone picking this as fast as using a key on it 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
i have a b 360 and can't get screws in
Everest locks super easy to bump with the right key , it opens first time consistently with barely a light bump, better get a lock with spool pins across the board! Not to mention I actually filed down a sc1 key to fit a everest and cutting the shoulder down to add the sixth pin , it not only worked on the outside doors but my apartment as well, the code was close enough to work both, I tried it on a vacant apartment next door and it didn't work!
What is a good lock than??
Few questions:
What knob would you recommend?
And is it generally advised to have a knob and deadbolts all have different keys?
I would like to have all 3 of my household doors use the same key, but that seems less secure.
Great video!
Invest the money in good deadbolts and don’t pay for key-in-knobs. Just get passage sets with no locks.
@@24hrMrLocksmith thank you for everything!
@@24hrMrLocksmith So, your saying, for entry doors, (residential in my case) skip paying for key in knob sets? Just go with the current top choice "Schlage B60N" and call it a day? I never thought about that option!? Sorta like bathrooms with two sinks.. Your paying twice for the same service.. Brilliant!! One less thing to have issues with later.. 👍👍
I've made a fun little drinking game out of this channel. Every time he mispronounces "Schlage," take a shot.
What about drilling out the lock?
What's the best lock for a residential basement door?
I can take a pipe wrench to the outside of that lock turn. It counterclockwise open that door in less than 30 seconds. Sorry that junk.
You have abloy locks there right.. right...?
Best Residential deadbolt for the money.
Or medeco?
@@jamess1787 Medeco is a great High Security lock but more expensive than the B60N.
Schlage Primus High Security Deadbolt is comparable to the Medeco.
@Moishe Shekelbag all locks can be bypassed. Locks keep honest people honest. They are just a deturent.
Who are you and how did you get in here?
I’m Mr. Locksmith … and I’m Mr. Locksmith.
If the B60N is a 6 pin, what Schlage residential 5 pin dead bolt would you recommend?
It looks line the Hardware Stores sell the 5 pin SC1 and the Wholesalers supply the 6 pin SC4. I have a few more videos comparing the locks.
you should use affiliate links. great work!
lock picking lawyer would love to have a word with you.

Kwikset can be picked super easy even with mushroom pins. The locks are low grade inexpensive locks at best.
Well, somebody's spelled it "Schalge" in this video. I suspect from the correct spelling, "Schlage", and from the time the company was established that this could be a German name. So my best guess at a pronunciation would be a 'sh' sound followed by 'lager' like the beer (do you have lager beer in USA and/or Canada?) So, you could say 'Shlager' with a long 'ah' sound on the 'a' and a hard 'g'.
How I have heard it sounds like
Sch lay g I pronounce like sch leg I might be wrong on the correct pronunciation
Our biggest mistake is we got the daylight so we can't use the 3 inch screws due to the glass being there, UGG
Nice thank u
Thumbs up and subscribed!
What about the best residential door knob lock?
Big fan of the Parker B9160. Or Arrow RK series.
Is this Schlage B60N STILL the BEST Residential Door Lock in your opinion?
The Home Depot version is #2
