Amazing job! Those inexpensive locks definitely aren't adequate for stopping thieves! Thanks again for all the time, effort, and expense you put into these videos and looking forward to your next video!
It's been my experience that thieves are generally stupid. My car was broken into by a thief. They took nothing because I had nothing in it. But the window was smashed. At work the next day a fellow employee who had a juvenile record (but was now going straight) laughed at the stupidity of the thief. He whipped out his pocket knife and had my window open in about two seconds. No damage. When my house was burgled they just smashed through the door instead of trying the knob. It was unlocked. I had to buy a new door.

One thing to consider is that you're protected as much as the weakest link. Such a lock would be overkill on most homes, as there are other potential entry points that would be quicker and easier than trying to pick the front door lock, such an open window, patio door(which can often be unlocked by just lifting the door), visible door hinges, etc. For the most part, a lock is just a deterrent, but a thief who know what he's doing will find a way to get in if he really wants to.
this is true, my situation is opposite to most though. I moved into a house in the city that already has bars over the windows, on the inside, a solid wood front door and a security door to cover the back door but they used deadbolts that can be raked open. covering the main points of entry but as you say if someone really wants to get in they will always be able to go through your walls or floor if they bring the tools.

When I lived in America, I worked for a large city on the east coast that had Medeco locks in every facility they had. I was not an actual locksmith but being in maintenance we sometimes would remove cylinders from doors and have them re keyed for allowing or removing sub master keys to access that lock or set of locks for cleaning crew convenience. I had 4 master keys that were for almost every Parks facility and office building in that city, that accessed probably more than 3000 doors. Whenever I took a cylinder in for re keying I had to have a letter from my manager permitting the locksmith vendor to cut and turn over to me keys for these cylinders The letter was good only for that one day and only for the specified services and number of keys. No letter meant no turnover of keys by the vendor. The policy was every time enforced as it should be by Medeco authorized locksmiths. If a master key was ever lost every lock on that master key would have to be re keyed and the unlucky employee would likely have been terminated. Thankfully when I was there it never happened. Those locks are built like a tank. Excellent informative video, thanks for showing us the inner workings.

I like the Medeco but it's not practical for most americans. For one, the lock on the door is only as secure as the door and many houses have cheap doors. And a knowledge thief will know which house has the more expensive stuff inside by seeing which house has the super expensive locks on the door.
Problem with medeco is if you know what the main code to the lock is you can just make a key without the v cuts and it will usually open because the side bar is already aligned from original key. As long as the pins don't turn the lock will open! All you have to do with the qwickset is take all the top pins out and replace them with spool pins! M 3s are harder but a paper clip will engage the side bar if you have a weird key!

@@electronicsNmore my point was, one lock is far superior and actually impressive to me. But I can see people rushing out to buy a high dollar lock to put on a door that can easily be defeated no matter the lock. Great video by the way. Great explanation..
Just looked these up on amazon, it's obvious these are not being sold by an authorized company (duh, it's amazon) and the comments by the 1 star reviewers make me lose even more faith in humanity.
It's amazing how many people spend $800 - $1200 on a smartphone they don't need, but only spend $15-$50 on a deadbolt to protect that phone and much more.
well even if you buy a 10 000 door lock, you still have windows a kid could break... I'm removing my medeco today cause we only have a key and don't have time to do through the hassle of finding how to make a double. Not very practical when you have difficulty to access your own home. Any tip on how to remove that lock???
The thing with deadbolts on your front door is, if there is glass on the door, and the deadbolt has a knob on the inside, well, just break the glass and reach in to open it, no matter how expensive it is. You can have double lock cylinders on it, but thats risky and against some bylaws. Better to have a solid door with no glass for these to make a real difference.
I really lucked out when I wanted a better door lock; found a locksmith right across the street who had a demo Medeco lock, a little tarnished and sold it to me for $85. My Medeco interior handle recently suddenly became loose; found a video on how to tighten the handle, used allen key to tighten and it's not loose anymore but it is easier to open/close the lock from the inside than ever and wondering whether perhaps someone tried jimmy the lock from the outside, I can't tell by looking.
Good explanation video, why do I need this deadbolt as all my windows and patio door are made up of glass and anyone can break it and get in easily 😉☺️. Why did the thives struggle with this deadbolt.
I currently have jimmy proof on my door at my new apartment. i asked locksmith to install something like medeco. he said it is a hassle to do that on my door, and it is easier to install new jimmy lock. but the cost of the lock, jimmy, he said is $100, i thought those locks are old style and cheap. So do these jimy locks come as good as medeco?
Those look like t pins in the medeco. My m1 does not have any security pins in it but it has master wafers in it! I almost lost a side bar spring when one came off , I super glued those suckers. On there so that cannot happen again!
Is it possible to put a Medeco deadbolt into a smartlock? When I'm not home, I want to be able to unlock my door remotely for emergency repair entries without giving my door key to anyone. However, when I'm home, I want to have the security of the deadbolt for no entry at all. I realize that will reduce my security when I'm not home. However, it's better than having zero security 24/7 by giving my key to a stranger.
Very well done video/explanation of medeco m3! Have you ever managed to pick one yourself? At the company I work for, we prefer to sell abloy, tbh. Some of the reasons are because medeco keys can often break, or the heavily used ones are easy to pick. I was on a site one time where I had to pick a medeco m3 that was very used... at first I thought it would be a challenge, but I was able to open it within 20 seconds! Not that people would try to pick it really, and also, i have a lot of experience picking high security locks... but still, i was thoroughly surprised how fast I got it open haha. Now they have the m4, which I haven't gotten to play around with yet, but from what I can see it's decent step up in picking difficulty. I can't pick abloys though... yet! Haha Cheers, thanks for the fun and informative video 😀👍
So how long til that key gets worn and no longer works? And how much dirt or debris will render the lock useless? That's what I also wonder when I see such small cuts and angles cut in the key.
Twenty years and up. I have Medecos on my house, office, storage space and my truck cabinets. My neighbors have had break-ins, but I haven't even been touched.
Interesting. Now how do i put the Medeco logo on the cheap lock. LOL Any way the company can pays you to showcase it so well to so many? Or do you get money from Amazon? Maybe you should explain how that works with affiliate links. Thanks
Getting paid? LOL I've never been paid by any company to make a video, unlike many other YT channels. I always decline cash offers to make videos. Any products I show, I either purchased or requested to have sent to me. I decided to make this video on my own. Since I took the time to produce such a quality video, why not post a link to the type of deadbolt that I own? If my video influenced a person to buy a Medeco, then I certainly deserve to be compensated for it. Why should Medeco get free advertising? Would you spend 12 hours making a video for $10 in ad revenue? I don't think so. I modified the video description area to make it clear. Thank you
It's possible, but it's extremely difficult to get everything manipulated just right. No one would ever attempt to pick that type of lock. Thanks for watching!
Crime is on a time constraint. Can the lock be picked??? Sure. The are very smart people out there. But could it be picked quick enough to make a crime feasible. I don’t think so. Locks only keep honest people honest. Hell a carbide drill will make short work of that lock. I don’t care how hard it is. Or a grinder. But the effort needed is the deterrent. A person with that arsenal will not be breaking into your home. They have their eyes on larger real-estate. Lol. Plus if the lock is too tough, just kick the door in. Just saying.
@@electronicsNmore ruclips.net/video/dlOEr9h490g/видео.html It takes them ~1:20. With nothing but a rake. If you're good, you're good, and nothing with external access is going to stop you.
@@electronicsNmore He didn't need luck, did he? Claims vs evidence. I've seen a modified electric toothbrush take down a $150+ lockset myself. Your words vs what I've personally witnessed. No brainer. If you're good enough, no engineering will stop you. Otherwise, people would just buy lexan windows and Medeco locks and ADT and Ring would be out of business. No lock is the end-all, be-all.
Buyer beware why spend $ 200.00 on a lock. If you lose your key the lock will most likely need to be drilled to gain access to your home thus the lock will be destroyed. You are better off investing in a camera or alarm that will notify you in case of break in.

I PICK LOCKS! i know how its done! i have the grade of "GIRL SCOUT." i also have lock parts. you said that you had changed it from a 5 to 6 pin. how, and which type of lock specifically did you use! im familiar with how it is done, i smiply install pins, i have many "spools" and "serrated" but you need an extra hole and you have to undue the top cap which was not meant to be removed and consequently it is not as easily as it sounds.
Have you ever checked out the lock cylinders from Banggood? I'm wondering how good they are and how easily they can be inserted into an existing deadbolt lock. This one has 7 pins. www.banggood.com/Aluminum-Home-Safety-Lock-Cylinder-Door-Cabinet-Lock-With-3-Keys-p-1097801.html
That one is $7. I think there's your answer as to how "good" they are. The quality looks absolutely horrible as it looks like it was cast instead of milled and it says its made out of aluminum which no lock should be made out of. It also doesn't matter how many pins there are if the tolerances are horrible cause you will still be able to rake it in a matter of seconds. Chances are the pins in that lock are double-sided and the holes for the pins are beveled making it even easier to pick than just bad tolerances.
7:40. Got your machinist lingo reversed? Tolerance is the disparity. High disparity is junk. Low tolerance means measurements are close and less play, slop etc. which is good in this application.

Awesome to know
Thanks for watching Mike! Be sure to check out my locksmith video playlist and share.
I really enjoyed this video, thank you i would like to see a video how to repind a medical core
Glad you enjoyed it Ray! Be sure to watch my "Locksmith & Bypass Tools" video playlist below and share. Thank you

In 95% of residential applications it would be just as easy to kick the door in with either.
Many homes have out swinging doors, good luck.
Thanks for teaching me how to break into homes lol.
Now I know how to stop it.
It's amazing how many people spend $800 - $1200 on a smartphone they don't need, but only spend $15-$50 on a deadbolt to protect that phone and much more.
@@electronicsNmore
My phone is on the mid-end side. Around $100. The iPhones are overpriced
Oh, come on, a lock is a lock, right? As long as it keeps the door shut!
I'm a locksmith, I hear that all the time.
well even if you buy a 10 000 door lock, you still have windows a kid could break... I'm removing my medeco today cause we only have a key and don't have time to do through the hassle of finding how to make a double. Not very practical when you have difficulty to access your own home. Any tip on how to remove that lock???
The face plate around the keyway is removed on the inside of the residence to access the screws.
@@electronicsNmore Thanks I found a video explaining how to do just that.
If a door is locked, regardless of the lock, wouldn't a thief just try to break a window?
Too much noise.
Double cylinders is the only way to go when you have a sidelight.
Excellent video BTW; thank you.
And hardened steel inserts inside the pins.
Good explanation video, why do I need this deadbolt as all my windows and patio door are made up of glass and anyone can break it and get in easily 😉☺️. Why did the thives struggle with this deadbolt.
So thieves can't take your stuff out the door. They would have to take stolen goods back out the window !

nice view into medeco....
My reservation is, if I get locked out and need a locksmith to pick it, how do they deal with a high security lock?
I’ve seen a locksmith drill a Medeco. But maybe he wasn’t skilled enough to pick it?
I would have preferred a 50$ lock vs a 200$ lock xD
Like the Schlage b60n or the Kwikset 980
You'd be surprised how many people buy the cheaper deadbolts.
Lock picking lawyer would love to have a word with you. $30 is same as your $200
Is it possible to put a Medeco deadbolt into a smartlock? When I'm not home, I want to be able to unlock my door remotely for emergency repair entries without giving my door key to anyone. However, when I'm home, I want to have the security of the deadbolt for no entry at all. I realize that will reduce my security when I'm not home. However, it's better than having zero security 24/7 by giving my key to a stranger.
On that medeco is that letter on the left and number on the right on the bottom of the lock the date of manufacturer?
I am buying a new house and want to have all my locks keyed to one key. Is this possible if I use a few of these and regular door locks ?
You can do that if all keys are the same.
The medico deadbolt should be standard on every door.
Where do you buy these locks from ?
Hi there. You can buy Medeco M3's at the link below. Thanks for watching!

The drawback with madeco s when d key s lost the only way to enter s to break the door. 😊

@@electronicsNmore wow that’s awesome man!! Very cool. Thanx for the tip this will come handy one day. 😊
I can't pick abloys though... yet! Haha
Cheers, thanks for the fun and informative video 😀👍
Abloys are really tough to pick. Glad you liked the video!
Very impressive lock, too bad it is a royal pain to get one.
Last I checked, you can buy them on Amazon. I think I placed a link in the video description area. Thanks for watching!
I have a tool that unlocks every lock... It's called SEMTEX! 😁
I hope the ATF isn't monitoring you. :-)
@@electronicsNmore No they won't... It is clear that i'm not criminal/hostile... 😊
i immediately thought "EMTEK"
So how long til that key gets worn and no longer works?
And how much dirt or debris will render the lock useless?
That's what I also wonder when I see such small cuts and angles cut in the key.
Twenty years and up. I have Medecos on my house, office, storage space and my truck cabinets.
My neighbors have had break-ins, but I haven't even been touched.
They last a very long time. The one in the video was at least 8 -10yrs old, and it was close to the ocean
@@electronicsNmore I'm curious how well they would fair in the desert or dry sand and dusty environments?
@@aurthorthing7403 All locks don't do well under those conditions. If you're worried about that, then use a keypad deadbolt.
@@newyorkval1478 they know better...
Does anyone know Mortise and this one, which is more secure?
Thank you
So you cannot use a follower with this lock?
Talk about price gouging!
Can that Medeco lock get picked. If it can about how long does it take? Those cheap deadbolts take 20 seconds or less.
@@aaronv6091 Good luck trying that on an unknown Medeco.
No me recuerdo mucho pero creó que eran de esa
That's great...most thieves...if not all, force the door...lock at the end of the day is a non-issue.
Great training video for thieves. Thanks a bunch.
98% of the public shouldn't be deprived because of a handful of degenerates. How I see it.
Why not use stainless steel instead of brass ? Forgive me.....
Buyer beware why spend $ 200.00 on a lock. If you lose your key the lock will most likely need to be drilled to gain access to your home thus the lock will be destroyed. You are better off investing in a camera or alarm that will notify you in case of break in.
Medeco vs abloy?
Could be in the future. :-) More people need to share this video to make that one worthwhile. Thanks for watching Joe! Be sure to check out my "Lock" video playlist below and share.

Funny how easy it is to drill trough Medeco or any commercial lock really 🤷🤦
Shouldn't be with all those hardened steel pins.
...and then the criminal kicks the door in, ignoring the quality of the lock :(
If you can afford a good lock, usually you'll have a solid door and frame.
@@electronicsNmore Exactly what I was intimating, Every break in I have personal knowledge off all occurred through unlocked door/window (mostly door) or kicked in door or jimmied window. None through lock picking
BTW I just found your channel and subscribed
Both were probably made in the same factory in China!
LOL. No, Medeco is US made.
I'll take the $30 dollar Yale dead bolt! The Medeco is a piece of junk! Four pins? Versus six? I'll save $170 dollars and be more Secure!
isn't there a better priced lock for those that need 4 deadbolts? guess for those that can't afford $ 1K plus in locks buy good renters insurance
Can you pick a deadbolt in freezing weather???
