Just found your account and you make great content! Is there an electronic keypad version of the commercial version or a smart lock of theirs like it?

@@rickythompson4778 Schlage has some very good and reliable electronic locks.

Thank you for pointing out the difference not only between these locks but also the difference between sport pickers and Locksmith, I can't tell you how many times I get asked about the Locksmithing lawyer and I just try to explain it's very different in the field than a brand new lock mounted for your convenience

Let's be realistic; a stock standard Schlage keyway and core with 6 pins with 4 spools is not going to be a challenge for any experienced picker no matter if its mounted in a vice in a nice warm room, or mounted in a door in the dark. Throw in some freezing temperatures and sure you will slow the picker down and they won't be very comfortable but they will stick get it open in around 2 minutes at most. What is going to be the biggest impact on picking time here is the key bitting, not whether is on a door or in a vice.

@@keithwhatley5094 That is why I mentioned 'experienced'. I wouldn't count someone who just picks new locks in a table vice in that cohort. Rather it is someone who has worked on their entry skills in real environments. Knowing how locks behave as they age and get fouled is all part of that. In most cases, basic pin tumbler locks like this that work with a key will also be pickable. If pins are sticking or cylinder resists tensioning, or keyway is blocked then it takes more time.

Consumer grade a precision spin cast core and the commercial a brass extrusion that went through CNC finishing. Probably an order of magnitude cheaper overall for the consumer part, and this carries on to the housings and the accessory kits as well, use similar parts but thinner or cheaper cast inside parts.

I was really hoping the B60N6 still had that shroud they removed from the B60ND a few years ago. Kinda disappointing it didn’t but at least it has a better cylinder/pins 😐

Also, I think what you’re calling mushroom pins, most people call spools

Yeah, the shroud that was partially, if not mostly, responsible for this lock's security rating :/

Thank you for the deadbolt suggestion. What commercial grade lock suggestion do you have? I would like to get both locks keyed the same way.

adaptor plate? the correct name is the strike plate.
and the pins he is calling "Mushroom" are spools. Mushroom pins are tapered in the middle, spools are not.
spools are really easy to pick, and yes the lock will signal that you have spool pins, I am not a youtube picker, but I do "play" at picking my own locks.
and no Schlage are not top security locks, they are better than budget locks. there are also no anti bump pins in these locks.

Spool pins are anti bump pins. You will get false sets bumping these just as you would picking them.

Can the core from the commercial grade B60N6 lock fit into the other mechanism? Can the commercial grade B60N6 cores, alone, be purchased? Seems like it might be a reasonable DIY upgrade ...... thoughts?

Yes you can buy a schlage key in knob cylinder but the retail is more than the b60n6!

The Commercial Grade B60N is a quality 6 pin Schlage cylinder so harder but not impossible to pick.
