I DID IT!!! I’m a single woman who’s tool talent is shy of inept but thanks to this video my lock is securely installed and works like a charm-big thank you!!!
Thanks so much for this video. I had the previous Yale Assure lock, and the installation was more complicated as it involved more screws. Watching your video gave me more confidence of doing it alone, and literally took me less than 5 minutes to install.
Gen 1 announced that battery was low every time you interact with it. Not sure about this one. Samsung SmartThings is able to pull the battery information and will notify me if battery are running low.
I have the same lock without the key. The only problem is after say 3 weeks, the activity log only logs activity via the app. All the other activity never shows but it is on their server. If you pull the batteries it works again. I have submitted a trouble report and they are still working on it. It’s been 6 weeks without a follow up. Seems their server to the app is the issue. You may see the same issue.
I just buy it. It’s after midnight and the lock is making so much noise. It’s showing that the door is unlocked on the app when it’s lock. It’s also saying that the door is jammed. I paid $150 for installation and it is frustrating.
Hey! Mines is not working the electronic locks is not turning even if I press the botton on the interior side nothing. Keypad is just cycling the numbers but nothing help!!!
By chance, did you test and confirm that this works on WiFi for HomeKit? From my understanding, Apple doesn't allow locks over WiFi. Only Bluetooth or Thread.
You don’t need the Wi-Fi module for HomeKit. The locks bluetooth will connect to your home hub (Apple TV or HomePod) and give you access remotely. I can confirm this works as I’m currently using the Yale assure 2 with Apple home without the Wi-Fi module.
I had the first gen of the Yale for 10 years, replaced it last night with the no key option (YRD450). My gen 1 was starting to look bad, too much wear. Sun faded the screen and casing was changing color. Looking forward to 10 more years with this one.
Hi Steve, thank you for your wonderful in depth review of this product!! So I have a question regarding the battery; does the app alert you the low battery? Thank you.
How does auto lock/unlock work if you have 2 (or more) people at home. One leaves for work, does it auto lock or can you set it so auto lock /unlock only works if BOTH parties leave?
curious how these work in hotter/full outdoor environments compared to prior models. I had a prior model for my gate access to my east and west side yards and they fried after about 10 months here in Las Vegas. Not sure if they are IP rated for that environment with wet during that season or due to the temps that get into 115 range in summer.. curious to see if any testing done on that.
If you get the WiFi model, there is a small sensor that you can install called Door Sense. You countersink it into the interior door jamb or stick it on the interior door molding adjacent to the lockset. With this connected to the Yale Access App, you can configure the device to send notifications if the door is open, closed, or left ajar.
My device says unavailable on the phone application. Took off batteries and reset it and still the same way. I can’t lock/unlock door from my phone when I’m away. Any help? Thanks
To make this device better I recommend: 1. Build two additional battery ports to put 2 more pairs of batteries that engage when previous set drains. 2. add an upward camera like the Ring device so you can see the instant anyone touches the device. 3. Put a protective slide up cover to protect against the weather if device placed outside 4. add a biometric feature so you can use your finger print to open as an option to the key pad
Is there a way to buy 3-4 of them that the same key will use? I love the idea of a smart lock but I don’t want 4 different keys to have for each door if it’s for just in case scenarios
Question, I have a traditional door locks. Meaning it has the top bolt one for a key and the bottom know that opens the door and also needs a key....that means that i would have to leave "open" or unlocked the knob one in order to enter the house with these devices? Because if i lock BOTH locks, its only going to open one (bolt one) and use the key for the knob. ....
Yale also makes a smart lock for what you call the bottom lever style lock, I presume you could set them up in parallel... Or you could replace the bottom lock with a non locking version
I like the idea of the option with a key and the Wi-Fi. Except for the shortened battery life. I really wish it had an indication on the front of the device that the deadbolt was extended. I can't tell you how many times I've extended the deadbolt when trying to enter the passcode.

At random times this lock makes an alerting sound. Yale said we should press the "yale" button first, but still happens when the "yale" button is pressed before entering code. When the door makes this alerting noise the lock will only unlock manually. Which is frustrating me and family when simply leaving for 10 mins to walk the dog. Yales tells me dismantle the door, and unplug and plug in a white cord to reset the lock, but it still happens. Thank goodness more then one person is home when this happens, but I have to replace it as my wife, and my teenagers have no confidence in this lock that continues to lock them out of the house.
I have the original nest Yale lock and my two biggest issues are the fact that you cannot add a passcode for a single lock. So if you want to create a passcode for somebody they have access to your house, your garage, your utility room and so on, If you have more than one lock. That seems kind of ridiculous. But anyway. The other main issue is that I have five locks and one is on its own nest connect. This one lock repeatedly goes offline whenever the batteries run out or there's a power loss. In either scenario I must remove the lock and re-add the lock.
I am seriously interested in this lock. My husband wants to know if someone breaks into the WiFi can they unlock door? We have guests use the quest WiFi often. He is thinking the worst. But our kids give the code out like candy to their friends. 😮
Giving out your main WiFi password is a bad security practice in general. That gives people too much control over your home network, and even if they’re not intentionally malicious, you never know if their devices might be infected with some kind of malware that could spread to other devices on your network. You should enable the guest network on your router and give guests the password for that. This only gives them internet access without being able to see any devices on your main network.
I have the Access 2 with buttons and I am having nothing but problems. Door sense fails to calibrate 75% of the time. I've had to calibrate the lock itself and door sense multiple times. The app does not recognize the correct status of the lock. And the icing on the cake is that the PIN does not unlock the lock. I checked it multiple times in the app and I am positive I am entering the correct PIN. I am going to return it tomorrow.
You failed to mentioned the POS Bluetooth Module is NG so the app. won't work with Google Pixel 8 Pro. Also, it wouldn't fit my door either. Guessing Yale needs to release the Version 3 pretty quickly.
How does this work with multiple occupants in the house? Can all Apple Watches open the lock? What if I want the lock to be locked even when we are home to prevent intruders?
I agree. And the apple watch app is just terrible. I also wish I could just use my Apple watch NFC to open the lock without having to open the app and wait for it to send a message to the lock over wifi.
@@GizmoMaltese you CAN just use your Apple Watch NFC (Home Key in Apple-speak) to open the lock without opening up the Yale Access App. However, you need the Yale Assure 2 PLUS model to have that functionality. The Assure 2 comes in regular, Touch and Plus models. $10-$20 jump between models.
