HomeKey works great with this. I can use this with my Apple Watch or iPhone to unlock the door. This is one of two HomeKey compatible locks. The other is by Aqara. That one is a very heavy duty lock with multiple bolts, not just one, so it can’t easily replace an existing lock.
The Aqara isn’t for the US home market, so here, the Schlage, so far, is the only game in town. I wish a manufacturer made simple indoor smart locks so I could use them for closets and bedrooms.
@@ReyG_HKSH While there aren’t a whole lot of door locks for indoors, I did pick up a fingerprint lock for my den door. It works rather well. I don’t remember the name of it, but there are several types you can find on Amazon.
Hey Rey. Its good to see you back with another HomeKit product. Good job explaining how it works. I've been wanting this door lock but its always out of stock in my area. Keep the videos coming!
Having the Schlage sense with a Apple TV is a game changer since I have access to it from anywhere. I also have the ability to set an automation for when I arrive to unlock and to lock when I leave. I assume the same with this. I also would tell Siri on my watch to unlock the door before walking in as well.
Great video but BTW you don’t have to open your wallet to open your door. It works with NFC. Just hold your phone very close tot he keypad and it will open (and if you don’t want to authenticate turn on express mode in the wallet)

For the encode plus, you get 2 "boxes" correct? And they both go on the outside right? One has the numbers and the other has the handle. Great to see new HomeKit content from you and it’s amazing as always! This really does seem like the cream of the crop when it comes to smart locks and Homekit. it’s really unfortunate that they are having such difficulties keeping up with demand. what’s your take on why more manufacturers have not adopted Home Key yet?
Hey Dustin, thanks for dropping by! HomeKit will always be a core focus of this channel 😊 Not really sure why manufacturers haven’t adopted HomeKey widely. Chip shortage? Excess inventory of existing products? Inflation? Schlage increased the price on these and can’t keep them on the “shelves.” I expect more smart lock manufacturers to adopt HomeKey eventually, but the pace will be slow in the current economic climate. One thing I’m sure of is I likely won’t purchase another smart lock without it.
@@ReyG_HKSH I definitely think a chip shortage is getting in the way of a lot of progress with Thread Devices in general, and Home Key locks specifically.
Can you setup Automation rules in Homekit with this lock? For example, if I wanted the foyer light to automatically turn on when a certain code is used to unlock the door, but only between the hours of 6pm-11pm or something like that. Is that do-able?
I've been wanting to buy these locks for about a year now. Schlage said they'd be available in the spring... WRONG. I finally gave up on them and ordered an Ultraloq.

Great overview. Availability in Canada too is low to inexistent but will get it once back in stock. As someone who cannot grip/turn keys and an Apple fan, it's worth it for me. Even the noise I see as benefit: you're home alone, lost in reading, phone somewhere in the house, you hear the lock unlocking. Only worry I have is would any locksmith be able to install this for me or must they be approved by Schlage?
Great video. I was going to buy the Encode Plus but ended up getting a Sense instead which was on clearance and $125 cheaper. Why? Because I have an older Apple Watch that’s not compatible (no plans to upgrade it), plus I just use Siri when I get close to open the lock. The main reasons I went to smart locks were keypad access and automations, especially auto locking, so the Apple Key is a bit overkill for me. I also already have a Sense on my other door so no learning curve or muscle memory issues. I used the $125 savings to buy the matching locket instead of the bland hand I previously had on the door.

I don’t want to have to tap my phone or watch to something and wait for it to unlock, my current lock uses the geofencing or Bluetooth, it unlocks as I pull in so I just open the door and go inside, that’s how it should be. The only reason to consider this and other Home Key compatible locks is simply Home Key.
