I remember this scene very well… that poor little “big bear” wasn’t aware of what the collar could do and we can tell that his father was very worried about him as the moment he was reading the oath. And I believe this is the moment where Judy understands what the predators, like Nick, is going through. And Nick too was feeling upset about this cause of the flashing yellow light. 😢 this is the saddest scene to see from a pilot plot and I’m kind of in the middle of it glad and sad that this wasn’t in the Final Cut. The reason why I’m glad that it didn’t is because it would’ve raise a lot and I mean ALOT of questions and concerns about the theme in this movie and I’m sad is because I could see this being a very common thing like the Jim Crow laws. I don’t want to talk about it too much but if you know, you know… this scene is so impactful and sad 😢
I've seen that tame party so many times and every time it makes me SOB. As a minority who lives in the US it's like that. Except we don't get a party, most of us just get hacked in the face and keep it moving. Most don't even get a chance to be a kid.
Same, the taming party scene hits hard when you realize that it just a metaphor for life for minorities like us in the US. In fact, the whole original plot just seems like life for minorities in the US.
God damn, this is dark. Even simply feeling too happy as a predator was considered bad. The cub was so happy and proud to become an adult and have a collar like all the adults did... and then immediately regretted it as he learned what it did. :( This original plot definitely has some angry moments where the viewer just feels angry for the victims of an unfair society, but that's what makes the movie great and what makes us cheer for the victims and hope everything will turn out well in the end. The scariest and angriest part of the final film was when little Nick joined the scouts and was immediately betrayed by having a... muzzle? Put on his mouth, and got bullied by the other kids. That definitely lit a fire inside me and I wanted to just grab him and pull him away and kick the little brats who hurt the poor kit. But that scene was pretty much it, I think, for getting angry. This original plot seems to have quite a few of those, like the taming party, Nick being darted and running wild, and probably a few other things. Also Judy seems a lot more, uh... hardcore? Harsh? Badass? Here? Not sure what word to use here, but she definitely doesn't seem as green as in the final movie. Is what I mean.
I wouldn't lie is a more interassing premise, but they wanted to push a racism allegory and with this plot it was muddled, and the other messages of "hiding who you really are" and "needing to be always friendly to people that hates to not get in trouble" would appeal more to minorities and it could easily offend the majority white Christian market, and no big corporation would ever do that, just see how many of these same group reacted to Lorax from Illumination, a movie with no bite whatsoever. You can see that the final movie they had a tiny bit of these messages and many reactionaries and conservative news stations made some articles and videos, but it not being the main plot of the movie it quickly died down.
As utterly incredible this plot is, this could honestly never be a Disney film. I love the dark setting in this, but, Disney’s strict storytelling standards could never allow something this morbid. I hope a dedicated group of fans could animate this fully, but to do that, we need to make sure competent animators see this! I desperately want this, and I know you do too!
That collaring scene was fucking tragic. Also, Nick as the protagonist instead of Judy is a little more interesting to me, but I kind of get why they made Judy the protagonist in the end. She was probably a better character for the audience to sit with while being introduced to Zootopia and understanding all its flaws, whereas if we started the movie with Nick, it would've been harder to introduce the audience to that society since there's nothing for Nick to be introduced to himself. He's already lived in it his whole life. This original plot is still a very compelling narrative, but I get why they may have shifted focus later on. Still, this original concept is pretty wild
Fucking taming party...oh my fucking god. Dude? I will never forgive the entertainment industry at large for cutting out storylines like these. Sure, it may have been too much for kids but this story is SO IMPORTANT.
holy shit, i actually cried when we saw nick's yellow collar. and i didn't cry at the version they released, it wasn't THIS emotional. this could really be one of my favorite movies
Damn that scene with the ‘taming’ went so hard. I think i get the whole collars concept was maybe too much for the children but damn that was chilling.
that birthday scene is very very hard to watch. I see why disney changed it becasue they wanted it to be more kid friendly but damn this would have been a great story
Geez, man, thanks so much for telling it all in such detail! I've seen concepts of the original story before, but they were mostly concept art and brief descriptions, I haven't seen the storyboards and plus you're a pleasure to listen to! I like this version of Zootopia A LOT MORE, although it's pretty dark for Disney these days and I understand why it was eventually abandoned.
This story is “SUPER DARK” and I love it!!! It’s like a kid’s version of the corrupted Empire of Seanchan from the Wheel of Time book series. If they ever make a sequel or spinoff to this movie then they should totally use this early version of the script as inspiration.
That birthday scene is just too good, man I wish this was the the actual finished movie, the way koslok holds his tears with the yellow beep, his sons realization of what the shock collar is after getting shocked. Just man I wish this was the actual movie
Rather they thought making the both die was the end of the movie or they couldn’t think of how they could’ve survive so they scratched the plot. I would honestly watch this. It is a very good plot.
Everything good I said about the first part of this Zootopia cut version analysis video applies here as well, and maybe to an even GREATER extent!.. This would absolutely be a movie I'd kill to watch. Also, I just want to mention how raw and powerful the taming party scene is. The literal chain of society a predator has to wear and how it affects everything they do, how they're not allowed to feel emotion and how strained they are from living a good life. Just like one of the top comments mention, *7:46* The yellow glow of Nick's collar in this scene is an absolutely brilliant and soul-crushing piece of wordless storytelling. The subtle glow of sorrow and despair that he shares with his kind.....
A full year later and I'm still thinking about this. This would have been so much better than the lukewarm storyboard we ended up with. I'd forgotten Zootopia entirely, except for this. The story that should have been. Wish they'd do it and call it an alternate reality already.
Whilst the existing version of Zootopia is definitely good and retains ideas of morality and the concept of predator rights over the safety of prey, this one would have been so much better. Possibly not as child-friendly as the final cut, but the social commentary in this would have been so much more powerful imo. As much as I like Judy, I really think it would have been great for her character development to see the collar ceremony, and I would have loved to see the background behind Nick's criminal life besides that one flashback of him in cub scouts.
not gonna lie I feel like if this was shown a lot of people would have had people really talking about how we really see and treat each other. I don't see a reason why this couldn't be shown.
5:28 i remeber seeing that sceneeeee, i also remeber sm said this one was too much and then they kinda canceled this lore of zootopia and redid it. Damn the scene does hit hard.
It's really interesting to see how they fit the old stuff into the new movie, being chased by mr manchas, the waterfall, the polarbears, etc. Super cool.

Because the leftist snowflakes will find it too dark. It will hurt their very sensitive world
@@randomly_random_0 no the righties would find it "WOkE"
@@shanellemurrey9300that's a perfect allegory
Important how?
i was about to cry in the taming party scene, why was that so deep
This theme is definitely darker but it’s so interesting. The taming party, that killing of innocence. Wow. Deep.
holy shit, i actually cried when we saw nick's yellow collar. and i didn't cry at the version they released, it wasn't THIS emotional. this could really be one of my favorite movies
Damn that scene with the ‘taming’ went so hard. I think i get the whole collars concept was maybe too much for the children but damn that was chilling.
Poor bear brought me to the verge of tears, I couldn't imagine a fully animated version.
Seeing all these storyboards made me realize Zootopia looks better in 2D
that birthday scene is very very hard to watch.
This would have been one of my favorite movies of all time if it had been made.
NOT LYING BUT I CRYING YET THIS WOULD BE A GREAT CONCEPT FORVTHE MOVIE. Dude I'm actually crying at 7:32
That bear mitzvah scene hit hard. Thanking his dad... damn.
The one we ended up getting was worse in comparison. Odds are, it was pressure from the higher ups to change it.
This story is “SUPER DARK” and I love it!!! It’s like a kid’s version of the corrupted Empire of Seanchan from the Wheel of Time book series. If they ever make a sequel or spinoff to this movie then they should totally use this early version of the script as inspiration.
That little cub is so innocent and oblivious to what he’s going to have to deal with the rest of his life it’s so sad 😢
Didn’t realize you were going to put a knife in my heart today
When an unfinished script is better than what we actually got…
8:33 this art is BEAUTIFUL ✨✨✨
i would love to see a rendered version of this story
7:40 I'm sorry, i..... i think i need a napkin
Here, I have two 😣
That birthday scene is just too good, man I wish this was the the actual finished movie, the way koslok holds his tears with the yellow beep, his sons realization of what the shock collar is after getting shocked.
That cliffhanger hurt my soul
I'd honestly be so happy if they made this today or next year or whatever I want this type of plot again
This really needed to be an actual movie, I really wish this was the official movie… I hope this could be a prequel in the future
A full year later and I'm still thinking about this. This would have been so much better than the lukewarm storyboard we ended up with. I'd forgotten Zootopia entirely, except for this. The story that should have been. Wish they'd do it and call it an alternate reality already.
The way the video just ended like that made me burst out laughing.
2:18 has me DYING as a Mexican LMAOOO
6:03 this part is so brutal
''Violins in his heart'' is my favorite quote now
I love this, but all I can think about is “fudge-ative”
2:21 THAT MOMENT WAS HILARIOUS- THE CHINCHILLA’S REACTION LMAOO
Dang this is way better this has way more feeling in death in it than the first movie
Whilst the existing version of Zootopia is definitely good and retains ideas of morality and the concept of predator rights over the safety of prey, this one would have been so much better. Possibly not as child-friendly as the final cut, but the social commentary in this would have been so much more powerful imo. As much as I like Judy, I really think it would have been great for her character development to see the collar ceremony, and I would have loved to see the background behind Nick's criminal life besides that one flashback of him in cub scouts.
you're showing so much more scene's then I ever found, and it's so cool to see it all connected in an actual story!
2:00 "no idea what the fck is going here where does this even go this is so weird"
i wish disney would go back to making heavier plots. Zootopia felt like Sing! with cops😭
Zootopia came out way before sing… but you are right. They are practically the same.
The part that hit me was Khoslav and his son, Morris when he got shocked and Judy felt so bad.😭😭😭🐻❄️
Oh man I did not expect to get teary eyed over this. The taming party... That's.... Damn...
This would have been a better and more emotional movie than the one we got imo. That taming party scene?? God
3:28 The Bunny is coming is the funniest i have everheard. Like couldn't they think of anybetter lmao
Man, this needs more views
Goddamn that taming party scene hits so so hard. This should’ve been the movie, it’s genuinely peak
It fr is
not gonna lie I feel like if this was shown a lot of people would have had people really talking about how we really see and treat each other. I don't see a reason why this couldn't be shown.
Holy frick the way the father bear hesitates when putting the collar on his son is heartbreaking
Super cool.
The collar taming scene actually was rendered, and makes it so much sadder when u can see their full expressions
where is the scene on yt lol
I think that the original zootopia storyboard is more meaningful and emotional. The taming party scene was a part of the emotional bit.
icl the collars having lights that change with emotions is a really powerful storytelling device tbh
4:47 the taming party scene is by far my favorite scene omg
god damn the yellow light after the taming party, that shit hurt
The Taming Party effed me up. Its not even fully animated but that is BAFTA worthy.
I honestly would have loved this version even more
The birthday scene actually breaks my heart💔
