Hoi an is definitely one of the highlights of Vietnam, the city centre by the river is beautiful area to visit especially at night when all the lanterns are lit up, and the countryside around is flat and easy to explore on bycyle or scooter.
On the food side of things there's so many great restaurants in the city and the indoor market you visited always had plenty of stalls offering cheap freshly cooked amazing tasting meals.
The local cao lau noodles and banh mi are must tries when here.

Forgot to mention...some of the finest Indian food I have ever eaten has been in Malaysia, especially around Penang, but when we went to Hoi An, on recommendation, we visited the one near the main taxi rank/bus area. I think its Ganesh. it was stunning.
