@Krazy Guy what the commenter meant was the fact that Joe didnt stretch the video to get more revenue out of it and he kept it the same as any of his videos- hight quality and well packed into less than 10 mins.
@Krazy Guy He did a video recently about how much money he made last year. Think it was $100,000 range. So hes not rich, but definitely well off for his age.
I am Vietnamese American. The Vietnamese are terrified of being "fat." If you gained 5 pounds, your family would do an "intervention," take away your food, tell you that you're fat all the time until you break down and lose the weight. And then they rejoice and try to feed you.
Their diet is absolutely amazing. Food here in the Philippines is now being more and more Americanized and thus we are seeing an increase in obesity rates in the country as well. My friend lived in Vietnam for a month and she lost 10 kilos because the diet is just amazing - full of vegetables and minimally processed meat + fast food is not as prevalent
Filipinos eat every hour, that's why lots of them are fat. In addition, they're not keen in walking, even if the destination is just 5 minutes 2 blocks away, they'll just haul a tricycle to get there in seconds. Same with Malaysia, they love to eat sugary meals and sugary drinks so they're the most obese in ASEAN
For many reason, the freeze contained or preprocess meat in supermarket is way more expensive than the meat in our local market, which is directly take from farmer from the city outskirt, this also apply to vegetable, so the local food is always be consider to be more fresh and cheaper than one in fast food stall. Also this explain why the more you travel far away from city, capital, the fresher, the quality of food is increase
Dude I'm Vietnamese and I didn't even know that my country is the least obese lmao (but I'm not really surprised). Love how accurate and informative this is, keep it up!
This 6 minutes video felt like it was 12 minutes long. It was so well packed without it being diluted by water. Pure concentrated content, very impressive
I love how my visits to Vietnam always end up turning into 24/7 eating and still getting home thinner hahaha The food is a rich mix of meats, vegetables, fruits, rice, ice, noodles, tofu, liquids, ... Vietnam has a place deep in my heart. I am going there on 16th of January, finally again, after the involuntary Covid break.
I'm Vietnamese American, and you're so right. I once spent a month in Vietnam, eating my heart out and walking everywhere. Great way to lose weight and still enjoy amazing food. Appreciate your willingness as a foreigner to try all sorts of unfamiliar foods, even if you didn't like some of it. Great video!
I lost 30 kg. in 6 months in Hanoi. I still kept eating a lot, it's just very difficult to gain weight there. Being a chubby chaser I didn't find that many women with the body shape I like either. 😅
I love how you're not afraid to show that you don't like some food or drink in a foreign county. I've had enough of those ass-kissers who always pretend that they like everything that they put in their mouth.
As a Vietnamese myself, I'm more than surprised that we're the least obese country in the world. What I am not too surprised, and I'm proud of, is that Vietnamese cuisine displays quite a harmony between good flavors, nutritious food and still healthy and fresh. Thank you again for such an insane video.
Also as vietnamese born and raise in Canada, I wanna add that the dish he ate at the end, not everyone will like. But I really like those cuts and smell of those ingredients. Also pig feet should be dip in fish sauce, my preference. Edit: now im hungry 😢
Awesome story in this, love how you were open to trying some of the less usual things for a British fella to come across, even if it wasn't to your taste.
I'm half vietnamese and half hungarian was born and raised in Hungary. I had a chance to live in Vietnam for a year in my early 20s. What I realized apart from food is that a lot of people do recreational sport. Parks were always full of people in the morning or at late afternoon/early evening doing badminton, dance, yoga, running, street workout etc. From little children to older people aswell. Lot of old people do some kind of exercise and that's amazing. I usually went to do calisthenics and joined a breakdance group (also in a park, very good feeling, very oldschool streetdance style) and every time these parks were full of people.
My 80 year-old dad goes on regular walks, takes dancing classes and even hired himself a personal trainer. I have an old picture of him from when he was younger and his body was INSANE, it looked exactly like Bruce Lee’s body. We’re going back to visit Vietnam in October.
As an American, I’m so embarrassed about what our country has become. When I travel internationally, and then come back to the States, I am always dumbfounded by how enormous we are. It’s truly shocking.
Being Vietnamese, I’ve really enjoyed this video and proud to see my culture be presented in such a positive light. Btw, the “liver” that you ate was actually blood from the looks of it. Pork blood is usually cooked to a certain density, then chopped up into cubes to be served with noodles. Thanks for making this fantastic video!
I am a Vietnamese and studied in the US. Within the first year I gained 10kg, it was wild. The snack and food were extremely sweet or salty. The portion was huge. My first impression was the portion to be exact. People, especially in the sub urban or rural area, were having a lot, not to say EXTREME LOADS (compared to Vietnamese lifestyle), of processed food. I was even more amazed when I moved to NYC, where "fresh and organic food" - the type of stuffs we eat on a daily basis in Vietnam - was considered a higher lifestyle. While you can get fresh food at the Vietnamese markets for cheap, it goes wild in the US markets (stuffs that are labeled organic)
As an Australian Vietnamese, I only know American food through documentaries and TV shows. What gathered is that American has this "more is better" mentality or what they called the "American way" to do the extreme. So what I see in those burger joint, they would wrap everything in bacon and then triple fry it. This type of dishes get praised. Such thing like a cronut. Croissant get so much butter, to make it better we just fry it or add bacon lol. Cronut was hype in Australia for a short time, and then it dies away bexause it doesn't suit Australia culture.
I’ve been struggling with my weight literally my whole life, failed so many times but I have faith that one day I will reach my goal and finally be truly happy. Currently, it’s been 4 months since I started my weight loss journey and it’s going slow because I’m not really exercising... I just got some diet help from Next Level Diet which guided me to reduce my food intake. But if I really want to, I could still eat something without restricting. I already lost 27 pounds and I’m much happier everyday :) Of course, there are times when I fall off but that’s why it’s called a journey. It has ups and downs but as long as you have faith in yourself, all your hard work will pay off ❤
I had to cut my diet to 1200 calories I'm extremely short I will gain weight if I eat more than that. I've severe thyroid problems. I walk and the weight doesn't come off. I'd my metabolism tested and 1200 calories is all I burn. I'm getting thyroid checked in 2 weeks as I very unhappy with weight gain.
I just came back to Vietnam after a relatively long time (for me) in the UK, Vietnamese food to me is unbeatable. It's full of vegetables and very little oil. Meat and seafood are cooked in various ways which make my diet always enjoyable and interesting. I have never faced "What should I eat today that is low in calories" problem in Vietnam.
Hey, have you ever try "Hủ tíu mì khô"? It's basically rice noodle but you have to eat the noodle and the broth/soup seperately. Damn i love this one. Copy and paste "hủ tíu mì khô" to figure it out, now. Btw you can find it at Sai Gon city, or in Southest provinces, like My Tho City of Tien Giang province. The taste is better than the Northern Vietnam, because it is sweeter i guess.
You know I'm from Houston, Texas and we have a giant Vietnamese population over here. So growing up a lot of that food was very common to eat. It's awesome to see some experience that culture for the first time.
@ZyklonBeezy there’s many good Viet restaurants in Austin too if you ever come by that direction. Dallas and Houston have more selections though. Try Kim Son Buffet in Houston if you get a chance. Best Viet buffet in the US.
I'm German but have been living in Madagascar pretty much my whole life. The situation is very much alike to the one in Vietnam. I really appreciated the fact that you ate local things and that you trained with the locals ! I don't know a lot of tourists that do it here :). Anyway, loved the video, maybe one day you'll visit Madagascar !
I'm actually vietnamese (I dont live in vietnam though) and I love how you went around the smaller markets, especially that lady who sold the smoothies. One thing is that when I visit I rarely ever see fast food chains from the US in the cities
fun fact: kfc in vietnam failed and they had to bail. not surprising because there are inexhaustible cheaper and tastier street food choices in vietnam.
@Vanessa well, in Vietnam there aren't any Starbucks really. I think hcmc has at least one but they pretty much pulled out of Vietnam because no one went there. They literally had no customers. One, it's too pricey and two, Vietnam has an amazing coffee culture (theyre a major producer) with thousands of small independent coffee shops everywhere, most of which are very stylish and super distinct. You'll never run out of new coffee shops. So no, chains aren't a thing there at all.
I think the biggest factor is that Americans drive everywhere. Basically drive to work, sit 8hrs, drive to eat, drive home and so on. While Asia and most of Europe walks, bikes and takes public transportation. Fast food is everywhere. I don't think it's as big as a factor as Americans sedentary lifestyle. Fyi. I'm Vietnamese and we probably have the most unhealthy food out there. It's mostly carb based, high sugar and fried. We just do hella cardio and labour daily.
When I traveled around Thailand I remember asking a young Thai waitress “do you like western food, burgers, pizza etc,” I remember her replying “yes I love your food but I can’t go near it because I gain weight really fast” also I personally lost 15lbs in 2 months travelling over there eating local foods and never went hungry once! Simply switch your diet to that of an average Asia one (no cheating) and watch your waistline shrink 👍👍
I think a key difference is the fruits as snacks. In Vietnam you can basically get fruits all year around due to the tropical location, like in Thailand. So they eat those as sweet snacks. In Europe (depending on where you are) you have fruits for a bit over half a year, and they usually arent that intense flavoured. I am central European and I could easily switch all of my sweet snacks with properly ripe tropical fruits (as I do when I go to Vietnam). But a supermarket mango in Europe? I cant.
@@haraffael7821 Finally a first world problem us from the global south wouldn't want to have. I eat kiwis, mangos, pineapples and papayas any day of the week lol
i spent 2.5 months biking across vietnam, i felt so healthy there, there just wasnt nearly as many options to buy junk, particularly in the more remote areas. amazing country
Great video and great story. I had been obese once in my life, and it's really bad experience. I was on the verge of developing some serious health conditions. My life changed when I finally set my mind to the thinking that anything is possible if you decide so. I took a meal plan to start with, which I found on Next Level Diet. It was super helpful to me. I didn't have to worry about calories, macros, nutrients and all that stuff. I just focused on walking long distances and exercising after I got on a level where I could do some simple workouts. I hope my story will inspire all obese people to do the same. To change your body you must first change your mind!
i’m half vietnamese!! makes me happy to see people traveling and supporting the small businesses there. i hope you enjoyed it there!! i wanna visit soon w my family again
I just came back from Vietnam 4 days ago and I can say, along with the smaller portion sizes, they also exercise A Lot! The most active people I seen before 5am.. groups of middle-aged men and women all doing group exercises in the park and at the beach. Loved just how fit and trim people were there!
I second this. Most tourists (or even foreigners living in VN for years) won't be up at 4-5am to see the local exercising nor they never actually know about this. I only know because my grandma walk along the Nhieu loc canal in HCMC very early morning everyday/every other day
I feel like this also partly explains why Americans are so obese. They drive everywhere and due to the crime they avoid walking in the streets. So unless you are hitting the gym, you don't get any physical exercise whereas in many places it's common that people walk everywhere.
My wife is Vietnamese, so we have visited there several times to see her family and on vacation. Great place for a vacation by the way. There's some fantastic tourist spots and things to see, plus nearly all of the cost is in the airfare. Ha Long Bay is gorgeous. Didn't know it was the least obese country in the world, but not really surprised to hear it either. The food has always been great, every time and no matter what part of the country I go to. Always good.
Thank you for paying my home country a visit. Though I've been overseas for quite a long time, my heart is always in Vietnam and I can't wait to go back to serve my country very soon. I appreciate the work that you put in making this informative video :) Keep it up, Joe!
While I was in Vietnam, every protein or calorie rich food I ate, whether it be grill pork or spring rolls is wrapped in herbs like basil / mint and lettuce. They also have pickled veg too. So you don't constantly fill up on heavy foods, and eat plenty of greens. Plus, I think they walk/ bike more to get to where they are going. Their portion size, like bowls are pho are small in comparison to western sizes.
Vietnam is my country and in the usual day, We can’t just eat only meat but without veg, so like every meal where all family members together we will have many options of vegetables, and mostly every dish created goes with some sort of green or veg😂. I lived in UK and it’s kind of shocked me where people can eat without any veg in their meal😂
Being Vietnamese, it's really cool to see you experience our culture! Also just want to point out that at 5:00, the brown thing is not liver - it's pig blood. For anyone interested in going to Vietnam one day, Can Tho and Saigon are also really nice cities to visit

I love how he is willing to try everything before he decides if he likes it or not and even if he dislikes the food he seems to keep it a personal thing ❤
I love how Joe was being introduced to the world of calisthenics while in Vietnam. The thing is there’s thousands of people just like “sensei” in this world
Simple, yet engaging video. Great to see Western people engage so closely with the local people in my home country. Hope you do more in Vietnam if you enjoy it. Incredible.
the fast food actually is not fast at all compared with the small outlets in Vietnam. the order processing for fast food normally can take to 5 mins, but for those small outlets, it will just take up to 2-3 mins. They are damn fast, cheap, delicious, fresh and healthy :) Besides that, I really enjoy the background music of the first part of the video. it gave me the impression that you really did your research about our country, our culture and our cuisine. Great content!!! Keep up the good work
When I was young I wanted to live in the West because of the fast foods. Mom didn't let us eat fast food because it was unhealthy and expensive since it's not our primary meal here. Now I really appreciate the fresh food we eat and cook every day. I'm from the Northeast India, kinda similar to Vietnam
Homemade food> fast food in both taste and healthiness When I went to university to study engineering I lived on ramen and fast food, had to go to the gym in my FreeTime because I was getting a dad bod I missed my mother's curries, shwarmas, grills, stir fries, salads you name it She was also half Indian and half Mauritian so you know the food was banging
As an Australian who visited Vietnam and I’m amazed with their food! I went there with my Vietnamese friends and other Asian friends. I love love love the street food since it’s yummy and cheap! People there are slim and fit. They have heaps of veggies in their meals and loves fruits as well.
I really love how self-aware you are (the little comments here and there) and how quick and yet informative this video is. So effective in informing yet entertaining. Keep it up !
Nice video. I've lived in Asia 10 years and it's the same in most countries in this region (small portions, fresh fruit etc). Hope that you enjoyed your time in Vietnam.
One of the reasons why I’m proud to be Vietnamese is because our food is great and also pretty healthy. I live in the US but have never gotten tired of Vietnamese food. Best cuisine in the entire world.
@@donnymiddlebrook actually I loved the whole video, I am from the USA and stay away from the standard American diet. But you did a great job. I am a grandma, I bet your grandma is very proud of you.
Vietnam is a beautiful country. Can't wait to visit it in the future. The north has beautiful nature and the country is full of culture, great food and amazing people. Love to Vietnam from Czechia 🇨🇿❤🇻🇳
Với mình thì ẩm thực Hải Phòng là số 1 ở VN. Dù không được sinh ra ở Hải Phòng nhưng không biết đã bao nhiêu lần mình đến Hải Phòng rồi. Thành phố sạch hơn HN và TP. HCM. Con người thì khí khái, phóng khoáng. Cảm ơn LNC vì video này nhé!!
Ho chi minh criminal hands were soaked in blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent Vietnamsese people when he received the instructions from Statin and Mao Zedong to wage a cruel massacre campaign so called Reeducation of Bourgeois and Landlord Classes. Ho chi minh cold bloodedly push millions of Vietnameses into the war hell, just to satisfy his egoistic thirst for power. If there were no Ho, Vietnam could have been a much better country today, rather than a heavily indebted country under a severely corrupted repressive totalitarian communist regime. Look at Korean peninsular now, imagine what would have been had the leader of North Korea Kim Il Sung managed to take over South Korea since 1950. And the other way around, what if Vietnam had not fallen under the brutal repressive corrupted communist regime founded by Ho. Or at least, what if, after 1954, Ho the leader of North Vietnam, following the example of his comrades in North Korea, just let the people in the South freely live and prosper the way they choose.
@@_Infocars it’s literally food buddy 💀 Food from a pig that’s a well known meat everybody eats. You can have your opinions on your taste, but don’t disrespect other’s taste who grew up differently than you.
Ive been living in Vietnam for the last year and I’ve actually added 20 pounds. Im so used to American portions I usually order two. That lack of discipline and food being ridiculously cheap or other factors. One of the biggest things I think you didn’t mention in this video about Vietnam is how they shame people who are overweight, or even slightly big. In Vietnam people are really mindful of how others think about them, and they are very blunt with telling each other things. Even as an English teacher it’s not uncommon for my students to just come up to me and ask me “teacher why are you so fat?” And they think there’s nothing wrong with asking that question. I usually just answer “because i love food” im 5”11 230 lbs btw (which back in the states, wouldn’t be considered super fat)It’s even worse for women are expected to be under 100 pounds. I think if you would of found some-obese people. They definitely would want to let you know about their experience there.
It’s crazy how similar this country is to Indonesia in terms of foods. We got fresh sugar cane juice packed in that instant plastic cup too here, fresh fruits in plastic bags, and coconut juice by the road side. Feels like watching a street two blocks away from my residence.
I'm Vietnamese and I have been watching you for 5 months because I want to be fit. I'm so excited and surprised when you talk about my country. Great videos, Joe! Keep it up!
2:05 Unrelated, but my brother has stretch marks on his back like that too, and he’s kind of insecure about them. Someone asked him once if they were scars from being whipped. He gained a ton of muscle in high school after being bullied his whole life for being really really skinny. Idk why I felt like sharing this, but I just thought it was interesting to see someone else with the same stretch marks as him.
I always love to see faces of people from around the world. Every face has a story, every single one is beautiful in it's own unique way. Great video, thanks for taking us on this journey.
I remember I watched a video explaining that basically every fast food place that ever tried opening in Vietnam more or less flopped so there are very limited locations. It went into also explaining that the price of a burger at somewhere like McDonalds would vietnam would be almost 2 times more than what you can get at one of the local vietnamese restaurants/stalls/etc.
This is totally true, the street food in my country is very cheap as our currency rate is already low. Also we have a variety of food which is very healthy, balanced and definitely delicious. I remembered eating KFC in my childhood and now you can rarely find a KFC restaurant anywhere (in Hanoi to be particular)
It is more expensive to eat in fastfood chain and also it is no where as fast as in normal food stalls 😅. Also, I dont think Vietnamese like to queue. I personally dont. Why would you want fastfood when you can have a hot bowl of noodle soup, or a bizillion other delicious food. I love Vietnamese food.
Vietnamese food in Australia is pretty good because the restaurants are owned and run by Vietnamese people. I love Viet food . Its not very expensive and is full of flavour, fresh and great mouth feel .
I'm Vietnamese and didn't know this fact at all ! So proud of my fellow countrymen and women :) I'm based in the UK, but will be in vietnam for a month in December, maybe I should blog all the foods !
This video is great and very engaging and I love how authentic you are, some people love to pretend that all the food tasted great just to please their audience
seeing this makes me so happy as a vietnamese person! our (food) culture is being shared and enjoyed by those around the world - and sometimes not. love this video so much
If you have a chance to come back to Vietnam, you should come to Ho Chi Minh city, I believe you will have great experiences and delicious food, especially the "cơm tấm" dish you must try. Thank you for coming to Vietnam
I just love this guy’s video quality, everything from the editing to the amount of content in so little time, this dudes videos are actually never boring, mad respect
i miss all the fruit that you can get just from walking down the street. my family in vietnam is really poor so ive only really experienced the country side of vietnam but even so, all the street food, sea food, fruit and sugar cane juice are what i miss the most about vietnam as well as how walkable the country is bc living in american suburbia one cannot get anywhere without a car
Great video Joe! I was in Vietnam recently and actually thought the same thing while walking around Hanoi, that it must have a very small percentage of obese people, since I didn't see any while I was there!
In all my family, I only have one obese cousin living in Vietnam. He’s like a unicorn over there, an anomaly who really stands out on his motorbike. 😆 But I get it, his mom is an amazing cook and I was scarfing down her food like crazy on my trip to Vietnam.
I actually moved to Vietnam from California about a month ago. The humidity and cleaner food has definitely contributed to my American fat absolutely melting off my body. I lost about 3 kilos of fat. I don't weigh much less, but am visibly thinner. I also don't eat fast food everyday anymore. I eat clean foods with smaller portions!
statistics are slightly lower but very similar in here Australia. Definitely a massive issue for many western countries where unhealthy foods are so readily available and the average person is so inactive. I don't know what the solution is but there is something fundamentally wrong with our lifestyles/philosophies for 1/3 people to be living like this. On a more positive not, I wish I had an outdoor gym like that near me, seems like an amazing atmosphere and lots of fun to exercise outside with your homies. Almost like the ancient Greeks did it lol.
We're number one! We're number one! USA! USA! USA! Seriously though, what a sad state of affairs in the US. I mean just driving around seeing the garbage slop restaurants on every corner, it makes me sick. The fast food joints are always packed!
I'm an American living in Viet Nam, I'm over six feet tall and barely weigh 135 pounds. In my country people always ask if I'm sick/dying but here I fit in quite well (except for my height). I'm ashamed of many of my people and how gluttonous they've become. FJB.
The obesity of Americans can be really shocking. I was watching a doku about Japanese prisons, and everyone was thin. Prisoners there are kept on a strict diet and are active, with a lot of exercise. Then I watched a show about American prisons and the difference wasn't just noticeable, it was grotesque. Everybody was waddling around, supersized. Especially the guards. It was embarrassing.
Very excited that you showed the amazing culture of Vietnam. I'm personally from there and the food cuisine is absolutely spectacular and rich in diversity, though there are some that I don't like. Great video man
As a pretty picky Vietnamese, I'm not a fan of liver and pig's trotter either - amongst many other things tbh. That's what I love about Vietnamese cuisine though - it's so diverse, you never run out of options. You can literally go to a city/province each in Viet Nam and discover dishes you've never heard of before.
Spent 6 weeks traveling in Vietnam. Something special about eating some of the best food I have ever had in some little stall on the side of a road sitting on a little plastic seat surrounded by locals and all for about £2. God I miss it
Beautiful video of you exploring a different country. I like how you keep an open mind about trying different foods. This makes me want to go to Vietnam.
i just came back from a trip to vietnam just a few weeks ago and i had no idea it was the least obese country in the world but even though i had no idea, i could see the evidence of it. much of what is readily available in terms of food is fruits and veg and their fried variations. of course there's snacks and other foods but they taste and are made differently from what you would see in the west. usually the more less nutrient dense foods are in cafes, shopping malls etc and even then they aren't as sweet or as filled with additives that you likely can't read. overall, the food is way more nutritious and quite good too. i loved going to the smaller businesses and you can get such great food and meet interesting people as well. a bit sad you didn't like the sugarcane juice, i love that stuff haha interesting video! ^^b
Im vietnamese and im so thankful for you to show some of the beautiful sides of vietnam. Also one of the biggest reason that vietnameses are not obese because of the large amount of traditional dishes and community parks too ;))
Vietnam is amazing! Great country, great culture and of course great peaople. I loved it from the very first day to the last of my trip there. Really recommend to anyone.
01:12. Coconut juice. 01:45. Breakfast entree: rice, beef, bean sprouts, and salad. 02:00. Pineapple. 02:20. Passion fruit smoothie. 02:56. Sugar cane juice. 03:34. Street taco: made with pork, bean sprouts, crispy shell, eaten in segments wrapped in rice paper and greens. 05:02. Noodle soup: Made with liver, pork, noodles, and broth.
From the little time I spent in vietnam one thing I can say was that their produce and food was absolutely phenomenal. Fresh ingredients, delicious fruit, and yet was very filling. I assume its their diet of high protein and richly packed veggies. Never felt better when I was there.
I’m pretty sure they don’t eat a high protein diet as joe said in the video meat dishes were harder to come across. Plus’s the people in general would probably be bigger if they ate high protein diets.
@@MrOasis316 no, its a high protein diet for sure. i lived in vietnam and my family always prepared meat dishes with lots of veggies along. the locals exercise a lot and it's heavily encouraged that you keep yourself healthy and fit by playing a sport or exercising.
I like how he visited Hanoi and tried going to a lot of places in the capital of Vietnam. Yet the background music is “Sài Gòn đẹp lắm, Sài Gòn ơi” which translates to “Oh beautiful Saigon”. By the way Saigon is at the Southern part of Vietnam while Hanoi is at the Northern side
I think what also helps is: very few milk products like cheese or chocolate, not mixing up too much different foods (its basically mainly rice with veggies and meat) while in western wirld its one day pizza, then curry, then lasana then burger etc..., foods are freshly cooked with fresh ingredients- higher quality of ingredients, in western world there many use to eat regularly treats like chocolate bars etc a day....
I agree it's definitely the freshness of ingredients and how things are made. But i disagree on the cheese. For instance the Netherlands is 78 in the world's obesity rate and they eat a lot of cheese. It's just differently made from the Us, the way things are made is far more important.
Add to that, Vietnam don’t use a lot of additives or preservatives, processed foods, etc. I was in Europe for two months, ate only freshly prepared foods, had gelato and cheese every day, and chocolate almost every day and still felt so much better and lost a little weight. Unfortunately, in the United States, even the fresh food is manipulated, genetically modified, sprayed with pesticides and animals are given all manner of growth enhancers from hormones to antibiotics. In addition, we seem to love processed food. And our portions are huge.
I loved traveling there too. The people are really nice. It might not work out so well, if you are tall, or large. The plastic chairs, in the restaurant’s, are kid size.
I can not put my finger on why, but I find joes videos so entertaining. Could watch them all day. Just wish he made them longer but I guess that’s part of the reason we’re all addicted to his channel 😂
You nailed it in the six minutes on the reason why Vietnam is least obese place on earth man: the portion size, the abundance of fresh fruits and lack of fast food. Even as a Vietnamese, I now just realized that from your video.
Crazy how in less than 6 minutes you manage to put out an amazing video, learnt so much about Vietnam's food/culture. Insane.
Seriously! He takes every second into consideration & puts content above everything & doesn’t force videos past 10 minutes. His pay day will come
I agree, he put out an amazing video.
It's more crazy that just for a 6 minutes video he has so much effort to go to other country
Sorry, I can't eat grass and weeds.
Appreciate it bro ❤️🙏🏻
i love how he travels across the world just to make a 5 min video for us. lots of love for the commitment man.
🤣
Pretty easy when money isn’t a problem

@Krazy Guy what the commenter meant was the fact that Joe didnt stretch the video to get more revenue out of it and he kept it the same as any of his videos- hight quality and well packed into less than 10 mins.
@Krazy Guy He did a video recently about how much money he made last year. Think it was $100,000 range. So hes not rich, but definitely well off for his age.
It's a shame this video is so short, I would've enjoyed watching a 20-30min video of you exploring Vietnam.
he should make a seconds channel with longer vlogs
i agree
Maybe it’s strategic . Leave people wanting more you know
I think the rest of his exploring is a little bit too "R" rated for youtube.
Short and sweet

Thats sad...
Stop spewing nonsense about Vietnamese families please.
I'll never forget the street "Banh Mi" I had in HCMC. It was so delicious I can just live on that alone for the rest of my life.
Also eating disorders 👍🏼
They do have fast food such as KFC and Jolli bee but I think only in major cities and apparently, it is really expensive among the locals.

Everyone gain weight after coming to America 😄.. We're less active in the US.. or I should say in smaller city, I was never fat when I was in LA or NY
It has ups and downs but as long as you have faith in yourself, all your hard work will pay off ❤

Vietnamese food is the best in the world for me
Hey, have you ever try "Hủ tíu mì khô"? It's basically rice noodle but you have to eat the noodle and the broth/soup seperately. Damn i love this one. Copy and paste "hủ tíu mì khô" to figure it out, now. Btw you can find it at Sai Gon city, or in Southest provinces, like My Tho City of Tien Giang province. The taste is better than the Northern Vietnam, because it is sweeter i guess.

@Vanessa Americans like what’s familiar. (Source, Am American)
Thais are fat tho.
I cant.
you know what... I just ended my vacation in Thailand, and I found I lost 10 pounds in two weeks...

Vietnamese have one of the best food in the world. Good people, good nature, good culture. The world needs to know more about Vietnam.
I only know because my grandma walk along the Nhieu loc canal in HCMC very early morning everyday/every other day
My 70s yo grandmother would wake up at 5am to walk around from our home to the park
I used to woke up every morning at 3am to go for an hour walk and exercise with my grandma 🙂
Is it only pensioners who do that?? Or people in full time work? How do they have the energy/time?
I feel like this also partly explains why Americans are so obese. They drive everywhere and due to the crime they avoid walking in the streets. So unless you are hitting the gym, you don't get any physical exercise whereas in many places it's common that people walk everywhere.

And the other way around, what if Vietnam had not fallen under the brutal repressive corrupted communist regime founded by Ho. Even as an English teacher it’s not uncommon for my students to just come up to me and ask me “teacher why are you so fat?”
And they think there’s nothing wrong with asking that question. I usually just answer “because i love food” im 5”11 230 lbs btw (which back in the states, wouldn’t be considered super fat)It’s even worse for women are expected to be under 100 pounds. I think if you would of found some-obese people. They definitely would want to let you know about their experience there.

I remembered eating KFC in my childhood and now you can rarely find a KFC restaurant anywhere (in Hanoi to be particular)

because we have Pho at a cheaper price
It is more expensive to eat in fastfood chain and also it is no where as fast as in normal food stalls 😅. Also, I dont think Vietnamese like to queue. I personally dont. i miss all the fruit that you can get just from walking down the street. my family in vietnam is really poor so ive only really experienced the country side of vietnam but even so, all the street food, sea food, fruit and sugar cane juice are what i miss the most about vietnam as well as how walkable the country is bc living in american suburbia one cannot get anywhere without a car
Your storytelling skills are epic, love how you make so small vlogs with a fast pace !!
they are so nice to watch
You use Kilo instead of pound. Already sounds like a Vietnamese hey?!
@@HanNguyen-cx1oo That's what I noticed too! Haha
Correction: one in three people are obese, not overweight. 7 out of 10 people in America are actually overweight thank you very much.
hu ce hu at
statistics are slightly lower but very similar in here Australia.
Like that makes it any better
I showed this video to my parents and they absolutely loved it and laughed so much, I hope you come back to Vietnam again
@@4FYTfa8EjYHNXjChe8xs7xmC5pNEtz Hear, hear. Very well stated and I concur 100%. Hell of a user name you have there, incidentally.
Joe you make the best content in the game. I genuinely look forward to your videos.
I'm so proud of Vietnam as well as Vietnamese cultureand cuisine. Love the way you pay a compliment on my country.
I dont mean to offend you or anybody here, bu I think he was a little sarcastic in 1:28 when he said "beautiful"
God I miss it
Your channel is becoming even more amazing. Excited to see where you go.
me too!
Loved this. You seemed very respectful to the culture and people. More of this please!!
where should he travel next?
@@johannes01 Mars?
Look at all the plastic he used that he didn't need to. He is just another fake natty tourist basic😄

oh sugarcane juice is one of the best lol
Actually the smoothie contained a lot of condensed milk. Thats why it was so tasty. And calorie dense^^
Wrong! Just plain, regular milk is used. Condensed milk used mostly with iced coffee
@Thanh Dai Ca there was literally a clip in the vid that showed the vietnamese lady pouring condensed milk for the smoothie
agreed, i doubt that smoothie was low on calories but that's exactly the point of smoothies though
@@et4949 If it’s the case then she did it all wrong. Adding condensed milk in smoothie is like putting candy in chicken broth
I wouldn’t call it a smoothie. Not with condensed milk.
Never heard of this guy previously but this is great! So much storytelling and general quality content within such a short time is commendable :)
I’m a American who move to Thailand 6 months ago. I eat similar but I’m still fat 😂.
But I did lose 15 pounds so far
😂congrats on loosing 15 pounds
Im vietnamese and im so thankful for you to show some of the beautiful sides of vietnam. Also one of the biggest reason that vietnameses are not obese because of the large amount of traditional dishes and community parks too ;))
The fact that I just found this guy randomly and love his videos damn man your my fav RUclips now
Vietnam is amazing! Great country, great culture and of course great peaople. I loved it from the very first day to the last of my trip there. Really recommend to anyone.
It looks like its a ton of fun to travel out and learn other cultures and stuff. Seeing how different it is, y'know? It's cool.
Also a key difference in snacks:
Fresh, ripe fruits like soursop, mango, jackfruit,...
Versus:
Pudding, gummy bears, chocolate
since when is curry western food?
@@anivardanyan since you were conquered
I loved traveling there too. The people are really nice.
It might not work out so well, if you are tall, or large.
The plastic chairs, in the restaurant’s, are kid size.
Taking fitness content to a
whole new level.👏
it's crazy!
I can not put my finger on why, but I find joes videos so entertaining. Could watch them all day. Just wish he made them longer but I guess that’s part of the reason we’re all addicted to his channel 😂
haha yess, well observed
You nailed it in the six minutes on the reason why Vietnam is least obese place on earth man: the portion size, the abundance of fresh fruits and lack of fast food. Even as a Vietnamese, I now just realized that from your video.
your editing, especially with the intros has been insanely good recently
yes he gets better and better
