It's been 16 years since I was back in Vietnam. Just thinking of the memories. My ex wife took me around and we had fun. Riding in her moped, getting around town. ❤
We will always take a place to these one who have been falling and giving the love to our country. And that place called "Home". Hope to see you back again
Wonderful family, especially the children. These foreign foods are difficult to acclimate. Granite has been such a beast. Cedar is coming along and I notice she's willing to try more and more. At Forrest's age, you can't really blame him - although in past videos he's surprised me by trying/eating stuff that many toddlers would not. Another fantastic video; keep going !!!
Johnathon could have asked for a serving of just sticky rice for Kelly ! He didn’t bother asking the guy that was helping him . Just ask them for veg options you’d be surprised. But you don’t even ask
I agree. Kelly has been so patient in all of the videos even though I can see her feeling so hungry and so patient. She lights up when she got to eat a vegetarian food. A suggestion that you use Google translate to ask for vegetarian dish and eat together as a family cohesively. That will look nicer, eating as a family and not leave one out.
It’s so great you joined the queue without knowing what they were selling! I always look out for spots that are busy with locals and I’ve have never been disappointed.
FYI Chin = well cooked brisket . Tai = undercooked meat . Tai Nam = undercooked and fatty meat . About the pickles , by the color you can tell which vegetable or fruit it is : white is daikon , orange is carrot , light green is green papaya and light yellow is green mango . The fried spring roll contains ground pork , crab meat or seafood , glass vermicelli , shaved jicama and carrot , eggs , onion , garlic , pepper , fish sauce , a bit of sugar and salt . The purple leaf is not mint or basil but perilla , an aromatic herb that we use a lot in stew , soup , fried or fresh spring rolls and grilled meat . It's called Tia To in Vietnamese .

@@BagsPackedFamily Jonathan, by any chance are you planning to bring the kids in visiting Taiwan any of these days? Such a beautiful country with super kind polite and friendly people, I spent my wonderful four years living there and planning to be back soon. I would rated as the top friendly country to foreigner. I really hope you and your family are visiting that amazing country one day😎
That street lady is right about your boy being good-looking, except she forgot to say all your kids are very good-looking and best behave, which is rare these days🥰
I hope that many Vietnamese people as well as many international friends will watch your videos. Thank you for your warm feelings towards the people and cuisine of Vietnam. Especially, please send lots of deep love to your little children, who are very well-behaved and adorable when enjoying the dishes from our country. Sincerely, thank you.
Thank you and your family for having a good experience in Vietnam. Wishing everyone happiness, peace, and good luck and wish your family a fun in Vietnam
@@BagsPackedFamily Oh! I've found that many tourists love Vietnamese baguette stuff with different ingredients on the steet. I guess you'd missed it this time.
24:00 I usually add 1 teaspoon of chili and 1 teaspoon of garlic to the sauce, the flavor will be much more explosive. Wishing your family a happy vacation in Vietnam
Pho in the US costs 10 times more than in Vietnam. However, the number of pho each restaurant sells daily in Saigon, Hanoi and other cities in Vietnam can be 10 times higher than in the US. Therefore, the revenue from selling pho for each business household in Vietnam and the US is equal.
When you eat bun cha make sure you add lots of the garlic to the broth it makes a big difference! Also the easiest way to eat it is to just dip the noodles and vegetables into the broth
As a Vietnamese, i would reccomend red rice or black rice with seasame or peanuts(for other combo you can try black beans rice with côcnut shred&seasam). The red/black rice is already sweet so need to add other things in (i sometime eat red sticky rice with sugar lol). Sticky rice actually a very good vegetarian dish in Hanoi. As for non vegetarian, you can try yellow sticky rice with fried shallot and dry pork shred. It's a filling combo for non vegetarian.
26:30 This is a Vietnamese herb, it has a name: Shiso Perilla. You can eat them raw or for cooking, like all herbs, for example as parsley, dill, basil...
@@BagsPackedFamily Shiso Perilla. This is a medicinal plant that helps against colds, fever... My grandma and my mother make me a soup with Shiso Perilla every time I get sick

The sticky rice is vegetarian, however the toppings are not. The topping options are: pork floss, fried sallot, crushed peanut + sesame. So you can just avoid the pork floss and you are good to go.
The herb that Kely likes at the Bun Cha restaurant is purple perilla, known as Tia To in Vietnamese. It is also served in the Bun Oc (snail noodles) that you ate.

Hi. Love your video. Because your wife is vegan, I think you should try some vegetarian restaurants in Hanoi, Vietnam. They serve a variety of dishes for vegetarians. In my experience, the price of a buffet ticket/person is about 5$. It depends on the restaurant you choose, some are a little more expensive. But overall the price is quite affordable. Vegetarian food in Vietnam is quite delicious and easy to eat even if you are a picky eater because they prepare vegetarian dishes that look like meat dishes from appearance to taste even though they are made 100% from plants and have no ingredients of animal origin. It would be ideal if your family goes to a vegetarian buffet restaurant to have a meal together. Have a fun trip!
It would be difficult when vegetarians have to eat out with others (friends, family, to name but a few). However, in Hanoi there are many vegetarian restaurants that she and her family can try. She doesnt need to fast. She needs to add plant ingredients such as mushrooms, tofu, and nuts to her daily diet to maintain/improve her health. She can buy nut milks in supermarkets or grocery stores in Vietnam too. Try soy milk or corn milk at roadside shops. As far as I know, most of them are vegan, just read the ingredients carefully. There are instant noodles for vegetarians too. You can google vegetarian restaurants on google map, they sell different types of vegetarian food at reasonable prices and vegetables in Vietnam are quite cheap. I am a vegan too, and I want to share a little information I know with your wife. In short, there are many foods suitable for vegetarians in Vietnam that you can try, just google it or ask local vegetarians.
I think it would easier for Kelly to get vegetarian food if you use google translate on your phone i.e. vegetarian food = thức ăn chay in vietnamese and show it to them.
