The part where you said, "I'm not just a foreigner living here but I want to be part of the community", touched me, spoken with such honesty and sincerety. Finn took it a level up compared to other notable foreign vloggers. Instead of comprehending their condition of living in the Philippines, he on the other hand actually shelled out $$$ or Php to help build shelters for other people and give jobs…Finn talks,walks, promote the country and help Pinoys earn a living…others stop at ‘promoting’ and reviewing food and drinks only 😂…this guy should be the one given the ‘honorary’ Citizenship or perpetual Permanent residency, if there is such 😊

Great vlog. Finn, I am right there with ya and was waiting to see how the solar was working and costs. I know you did your DD on the system so I am curious on the numbers . Like the propellers on the boat I love your attention to detail and you don't just throw money around without careful thought. You two look really happy in this vlog. You’re blessed to choose Philippines as your second home!😅 I advice you to install videosurviellance direct in your IPhone or Handy CP as your house is far away from the rural/urban areas..so you can monitor every now and then of safetyness in your sorroundings and movement camera lights of any intruderS that approach your house premises as a warning that’s my Brotherly advice and add German shepherd Dogs in your home as your safety guards. Golden retrievers. The progress on the house is great. I like your choice of tiles. Nice color and I think you’ll be Bally with the larger size. My choice was for a smaller tile, same color. Twenty years later I need to regrout. I tried to find your hilltop on google maps. On google maps my house shows up largely because of our pool. Best of luck in the new year.

I can tell you as a fellow offgrid-er, solar panels plus the batteries are very good investments. Aside from huge electric bill savings, the other benefits include uninterrupted work and play, savings from cooking gas (because you now use electric cookers/ovens), preparedness from typhoons/electricity price hikes, protection of appliances from wild electricity fluctuations from the grid, and of course a low carbon footprint. It really gives new meaning to smiling when the sun shines.

As for the house it's not too big at all. Compared to a bahay kubo sure but it's not frivolous with it's size or rooms. It's Nordic-like in that it doesn't waste a design. Each thing was meticulously chosen and with purpose. I love your house! It's also well deserved. You've helped so many others, it's time for your blessings too. Finn and Sherlyn. Beautiful house even if it is not completely done yet. And yes we can relate the feeling of moving in to our own house even if it not done yet. That feeling that we are no longer needed to pay for the rent monthly. We used to live in an apartment before for almost a year. But I was able to convince my partner to build our own house . Then, we transferred to a smaller space or a studio type apartment from a 2 bedroom apartment to be able to save our money because it was just the two of us who live there. Then before halfway of the building we decided to move in.

We live off grid here in Busuanga Bay Pal. First installation 2kwh, with 700amp battery bank, we use Inverter fridge 120watts, coffee machine 1500 watts, bread maker max of 1300watts, elec.stove top max off 3500watts and lights. We pay off the solar system in 1.5 years from buying gasoline. And now we have a bigger system, we dont need to run a generator just to have electricity, We have mooring for Cruiser in Busuanga Bay, called Sunset Mooring

Here in the UK there has long been a debate about the viability of solar, mainly due to the amount of sunshine and thus the output of solar here, but also the cost of the panels and systems themselves. Obviously as technology becomes more efficient and costs of panels come down, the proposal becomes more attractive.
Your situation looks pretty close to being ideal, with many hours of sunshine and a sensible cost of installation, just need to balance the energy storage, versus need, to make sure you have enough in the system to meet your requirements, without paying out for additional energy storage that won't be needed.
Regardless, you have a house that meets your specifications, and layout that works for you, even if you tweak it over time, and few people get the chance to live in a house that was tailor made to suit their needs, so good for you. Hope you have many happy years there.
