While many of you guys may disagree with the Swartzentruber Amish way of life, I actually found it to be quite refreshing.
Their commitment to sustainable living and self-sufficiency is something that I’ve rarely seen outside of indigenous tribes in Africa.
I also admire the way that the Swartzentrubers prioritize family, faith, and hard work, giving a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Lastly, while WE THINK their lives are extreme, they have no idea that other ways of life exist. So who are we to judge?
Would love to hear your thoughts down below if you agree or disagree with the Swartzentruber Amish way of life.
    Thanks for watching!

The location of her school is just down the hill from my home, I also, although English, grew up here. Sadly, I remember, as do so many in this community, when her father was killed. My mother, formed a friendship of kindness with her mother & out of a love for God they helped each other. I am so glad to see Lizzie thriving, yet still so connected to this very important piece of the world at whole ❤

It brings tears to my eyes when I watch such programs. Big applause for Mom. She raised so many children herself. She kept the house in perfect condition. It's so clean here, everything is renovated, repainted and so tidy. I am absolutely in awe. It was definitely hard at times and there were a lot of tears and sadness. However, the community is a real support. When our modern world collapses, you will still be there and the reconstruction of the world will begin with you. Warm greetings from Wroclaw, Poland.

Many are, but the mistake I see repeated over and over is placing all Amish into a single box. They are varied, like any other group. If there is a sin, crime, or cruelty, there are Amish people that have committed them, just like any other group of people. There are many admirable qualities to the Amish way of life but is naive to pretend it is idyllic.

The Amish are in a single box when it comes to authority. The leaders meet privately with government officials to protect their religion and anyone who disagrees risks losing all family members for the rest of their lives. It is an injustice that the taxpayer dollars of all involved and especially victims of crime, are not being used to protect both them and their families.

My daughter is married to an ex Hutterite, and although he knew it was not a life he wanted to live (he ran away at 17 with $20 in his pocket), he has only positive things to say about how he was raised and his life growing up...he wouldn't change it for the world. He came away from that lifestyle with determination, positive values, love and respect for family and an incredible work ethic. -- He fortunately came from a colony that does not shun, so he has a relationship with all of his family. My daughter loves them and can't wait to introduce them to that world.

My husband's late grandmother, was a school teacher in an old order Amish community in and around Arthur IL. It was her very first teaching job she told me and she worked there for quite a while. She learned many many things from them and then, she told me and I can't thank her enough for that.
I go to Arthur about 3 times a year now, (it's about an hour drive south of me) and I specifically go to an Amish grocery store called Beachy's. I buy thier Roll butter (it's so good you could eat it with a spoon) pasta in HUGE bags, candy, gallon jars of honey and most especially the Cheese, BEST AROUND, in my opinion and much much more.
This video, really does go into more detail of thier lives, so thank you for taking us along on this extremely informative trip. It was absolutely amazing. ❤❤

I often visited Amish communities while I was at school in the U.S. and Canada many years ago, and always found their way of life strangely appealing despite my markedly different cultural background. I myself grew up in an isolated Greek mountain village (with no electricity, plumbing, or any other modern amenities - in fact, the conveniences of this Swartzentruber homestead appear positively decadent compared to those of my poor village home). Yet, this simple rustic life, the hard manual work, the dependence on the land and the seasons, and most of all, the close-knit family bonds and strong sense of community are very attractive because they transport me back to an idyllic childhood and bring back to me all the people whom I dearly loved and long since lost. To those that reared us in the midst of much toil and hardship, it wasn’t easy living, but it was so much more beautiful, natural, and humanly fulfilling compared to our artificial urban lifestyle...after all, this is generally how the vast majority of folk all over the world lived up to just a few generations ago!

Beautiful home. Kicks the crap out of my childhood home. We weren't Amish, we were coal miners, in a small town. Wood / coal stove, outhouse, house half that size, preserves in the basement just like that, our tub was bigger though. Heat water on the stove fill the tub, it was bitch to empty though. My Grandmother / mother baked fantastic breads and pies, my grandmother made her own sauerkraut and mustards, she made a horse radish mustard made your nose flare up twice its size. form the heat The basement in her house had a concrete floor that was divided by a short wall, full of jars of preserves just like that. It was divided in an ingenious way as basements flooded in our town every spring. So one side would fill with water the other was dry. When it reached a certain level we would have to empty the wet into the dry side, and it would drain out from there. Child labor! We did have electricity though.

Sadly, it didn’t surprise me. Those sorts of questions have only been exploding in number nowadays. Regarding almost any & everything. Saddening, too, of late to see the younger ones ( like him ) gobsmacked even with a variety of fresh, home prepared foods ( the jam, home baked bread, etc. ) . V e r y grateful that I was n o t born in, say, the 1990s..

@@ashbarlow because the othet religions like christians at this time wear mustache and so we seperate us.
When you look at muslims from bangladesh, pakistan, chechnya and dagestan you often see men wearin their beard exact like the amish.
I like the amish people very much because their religios and their community.

This is amazing to see the wonderful old-fashioned tools they use. They're so hard to buy these days, but they were made so well and lasted forever. I love this video.

Not sure if you've ever heard of Lehman's catalog (they're online too!), but they're really great for finding non-electrical tools, lights, appliances, etc. You might have some fun looking through there. 🙂

That Amish house was spotless! I was without electricity for 20 hours last week, and felt my whole world ending, sitting there in the dark eating my cold can of Chef Boyardee, bored out of my skull, and hot with no air conditioning. Watching this, I need to learn something from these people!

6 years ago I moved to a community that is visited annually by hurricanes and floods. Whether we get flooded or not, we lose power & water for days at the hottest time of the year . Also no Wi-Fi - all the niceties of civilization are gone. It does show you a side of yourself that remains hidden while those comforts are seamlessly provided.

Get puzzle boxes. I like large puzzles. No less than 5000 pieces.
Have boxes of tissues around? Keep the tabs for lil fans.
Have a yard that retains water about 1-3 feet down? Congrats, you have a natural refrigerator.
      Read books, write letters. :)

They could learn from us too, as in humility, I mean, getting ousted like that for having a pin on the wrong way and a church that is that cold, ignorant and callus is truly ridiculous and dare I say disgusting. Just as people from like a hundred years from now will look upon us with our petty squabbles, belting so much hot air out of our mouths further adding to global warming ha ha, the extreme levels of food and other waste including unnecessary pollution and sufferings caused by laziness, greed, and, well, callousness as well as being more emotionally stunted due to the extreme fast paced life that many have in the developed world, especially with the way the economy is today, and yes, money is the cause of most of the worlds problems today. If we could figure out how to make everything vegan and still be just as if not more delicious nutritious and affordable as the non vegan items, that one thing would solve over half of the world eco problems, og that, and the fact that paper can be made from leafs which would be huge as well if done of a global scale. You have seedballs and all kinds of great innovations to change the world that are available today. Then you have got stubbornness, divorce laws and certain other laws, as well as these things called money and wars, so do not be so hard on yourself. If the Amish were forced to live like caveman or perhaps some point after that timeline, possibly as Egyptian slaves, they would probably be having troubles with that too. Progress is progress, it mainly depends on what stage you grow up with and the environments within said stages of your life. As for the electricity thing, I would recommend slowing down and just taking it all in like the Amish.

I am not Amish but was raised very similar, including cutting up newspaper for toilet paper, and having bath once a week on Saturdays. We were Russian Refugee family from North west China.
