having a tank car industry there is an interesting idea. However, if you plan to be more realistic, locomotive maintenance and storage buildings are usually closer to the yard for ease of access.
Definitely a locomotive facility. You can still roll freight cars in there for sand, parts, diesel, and even "broken" locomotives. It might even be a great place for a restoration place for a steam locomotive
I like the idea of a tank car industry, which would add some interesting operations and keep things fun. However, you could also find a spot on the layout or build a small extension to add the engine house. That way, you can have both!
Definitely go with an industry. That will give the layout more operation fun. If you can, maybe you could add a bump out to the layout so you can have your engine facility. Also consider having having a team track. So many options for cars.
Great video! I like the bridge idea section. I’m excited to see the outcome. I think the tank car industry will look great there. I like the thought of the trucks filling up there.
I would think of the tanker idea, and then before it, you can put a swich that leads to the maintenance shed so u can fit them both, maybe if u dont have enough room, you can add some wood and foam to fit it on so that way both types can be happy 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
I like your layout plan and love the water feature idea. You are making great progress, will be waiting for the next one. Linda ~ Loweville Junction Railroad 🚂
Loving the progress on this layout, the river is a great addition and the yard turned out fantastic. My vote it’s for the engine facility, I think it flows best from the yard. However, I think you have space to add both the engine facility and tanker industry with this setup. Can’t wait to see more!
This is amazing by the looks of it, the layout is coming along well for you! I'm amazed!! I think a oil industry for the fuel tank cars would be good in the yard, but also a place for the locos to be fixed would be good, but I have to go with the oil industry.
I like the engine shop idea, it would give a place for the engines to go if something were to happen. A tanker area is still possible on the other side the yard where the main line is.
Layout is looking good! I vote for engineer facility. Suggest moving the engine barn up a bit, put one track through the barn and add a turntable at the end. Do NOT use the abrasive track cleaner. It will put scratches in the rail which traps moisture, causing oxidation. Use CRC 2-26. Spray on a cloth and simply wipe the rails. It is plastic safe.
I'm making a layout right now and I'm wondering if I have to do any wiring for powered frog switch's different than just a non-powered frog. I've already glued all my switches down but I'm just wondering if I need to do any special wiring before I run a train and possibly short the engine. By the way it's a DC layout
That’s a tough one since DC is a little different. What kind of switches are they? Some brands like Atlas have isolated frogs so you won’t have to worry about shorts. Isolated turnouts will have a break in the rail where it’s molded plastic
Dear Top Railroad, cool vid! For the stub end yard spurs it seems obvious to choose the engine facility. However, not knowing what else you’re planning to put in the adjacent corner of the layout, I prefer to recommend the oil industry/locomotive fueling station. This may open up this section better than the rather large engine house. Cheerio
i think the service facility/ engine shed would be best because it will look more natural to store your engines there then somewhere else on the layout
I love the idea of the tank car industry. I would however look to see how much of a track lead you’d have for that industry with the warehouse going in on the other end of the track. This may cause spacing issues. Either way it’s going to look great! Edit to add: you could do engine facility with a small RIP track. A good excuse to run and yard cars that don’t have an industry on your layout.
Tank car facility. Your track also could use some track bed, elevating it more than just the general grade of the surrounding land/pink foam. Which would yield more clearance under your bridge too!
Honestly I think a Engine shed is what I would go with in fact you should add a fuel rack in front of the shed and inspection area where you can hollow out under the tracks that would be fun
Tank car industry would probably give the layout more operational value but I don't think a layout is complete without some sort of engine shed so I'd have to lean in that direction. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the river too!
Engine facility, with an extra track for other stuff that needs work, with a spot for fuelling, so a tankncar could be needed there every so often...lol
Great work! I think you should do the engine facility, it just stood out to me visually, and could be a good hub for your locos for scenes/photos etc. I set up a similar bridge/ river scene though with a double track truss bridge....and i'm planning on putting a similar one for a double track girder bridge like yours in somewhere else. I'm hoping to model it after a local walking trail spot that used to be part of the Montour Railroad here in Pittsburgh. They kept the double girder bridge and theres wood planks over where the track used to be. Its all weathered and might look cool with trees around!
Train yard and bridge in the HO scale layout. Unboxing of HO scale freight cars. You cat is friend of my dog Scooby Doo. Scrappy Doo my pup. Scooby Dum is a nice dog.
I think that engine facility would make more sense next to a railyard, but if you have the warehouse and siloes as the only industries, maybe tankcar industry would be better so there would be monre things to do on operating sessions
Servus Top Railroad, looks extremely good and the difference to the old Layout is enormous.......ps. I hope my comment wasn't the reason you tore down the old one, if you carry on like this the new will be amazing!!!
Realistically, a tank car industry would be more realistic. In this case the yard being small (for a class one rr) is more like an auxiliary yard to service nearby customers. Engine facilities are only at the larger locations due to high cost. Operationally, youll get more out of having an industry there than a locomotive shed/facility. Most smaller locations fuel their locomotives by tabker truck pulling up to the track and maintain them by shipling them out to the larger locations, or just on a small spur with maybe a concrete pad. +1 vote for the industry
Great video! Its really hard to pick between oil facility and engine shed, you would use them both a lot. Excited to see where this layout will go in the future, it’s got a lot of potential!!! Also, 6:07 scaletrains??? That’s exciting! Did I miss that from an earlier episode?
I have honestly tried to follow your videos and all your different track layouts and tearing up track in building a new track right now. It looks like I’m looking at an episode two for two weeks ago. Am I good at looking at this? I’ve seen two years one year nine months. I’ve seen a L-shaped a circle. Take care of your money, but you do what you want I’m kind of in the same way. I built a great end scale layout and now I’m starting fresh with an indoor in a spare bedroom with, folding tables and foam on top and going to be a good size HO scale of course with scenery and atlas track and NCE power cab. I have two so I will take one from my garage and scale layout and put one of those into my layout I do have two originally on the end scale so two people could run, but anyhow, yeah, just trying to keep up with what’s going on and I’m guessing you might not have a girlfriend only mean that in the sense that your time of building and money spent on the railroad with hey you’re loving it good for you I would probably do the same thing
I see your track is on foam but why no cork or homesite. I have found I can get perfect curves when using cork after drawing on the center of track on the foam. I also slip the extending rail from one flex track to the next with rail joiners not soldered and that prevents kinking and keeps in Guage with no need to spike the he'll out of the track.
2 episodes? in such a short time? this must be some sort of blessing
edit: further into the vid now, I'd choose a tanker car industry
😂😂 I plan to keep these wild phenomenon of uploading going so be prepared lol
Thanks for voting!
@@TopRailroad some of the footage might have been recorded before the first Ep
Tanker facility would be the best option. But if you want, you can add a section on the outside of the layout for the engine service facility.
having a tank car industry there is an interesting idea.
I always love seeing engine shops, seeing all the locomotives sitting waiting to be worked on is so cool
Great Vids Man. Keep Up The Great Work!
Tank car industry in that spot is interesting, but definitely engine maintenance somewhere on the layout.
I like the idea of a tank car industry, which would add some interesting operations and keep things fun. However, you could also find a spot on the layout or build a small extension to add the engine house. That way, you can have both!
The engine shop in the yard would look really cool
Engine house! I’m enjoying your videos.
Engine facility, it provides an excuse to buy more trains. Keep up the good work 👍
I like the tank car industry idea!
Engine shed gets my vote.
All coming along nicely.
Definitely go with an industry. That will give the layout more operation fun. If you can, maybe you could add a bump out to the layout so you can have your engine facility. Also consider having having a team track. So many options for cars.
Nice to see work done on the layout, and great techniques! Personally I like the idea of the engine maintenance facility but you do what you want!
Nice to see you back!
Always vote for the Engine service facility.
Awesome work 👏🏾!!
I'm voting both! One of each please. Thanks
Definitely the Diesel shop. That's what I will go with
Engine facility for sure
Keep Up the Great Work Man !
Also You should use the engine facility.
Great video! I like the bridge idea section. I’m excited to see the outcome. I think the tank car industry will look great there. I like the thought of the trucks filling up there.
Thank you man! Appreciate your vote
Locomotive shop for sure
I like the tank car facility. Like what I see for the rest of the layout too.
I always like watching your channel too
Great update, thanks for sharing. Dave
Thank you Dave!
Engine yard, ftw!
I would think of the tanker idea, and then before it, you can put a swich that leads to the maintenance shed so u can fit them both, maybe if u dont have enough room, you can add some wood and foam to fit it on so that way both types can be happy 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
I'll say it will be more appropriate for a locomotive facility since it's next to a rail yard
Engine faculty gets my vote.
I like the engine facility idea it’s looking really good. Nice progress. You’re doing a great job.
Thank you!
Another awesome video! Alot of great tips, keep them coming!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
I like the tank car facility. I always liked oil refineries also.
I like your layout plan and love the water feature idea. You are making great progress, will be waiting for the next one. Linda ~ Loweville Junction Railroad 🚂
I appreciate it!
Love your videos! Great narration and relaxing editing.
Thank you!
Loving the progress on this layout, the river is a great addition and the yard turned out fantastic.

Can’t wait to see more!
Thank you!
Love that bridge scene so far! Simple yet effective. Can’t wait to see it come together. My vote is loco facility.
Thank you man!
Interesting and informative .... Well Done ✅
Thank you!
It's looking great! Nice work!
Thank you man!
Glad to see the progress man! Also happy to see some new uploads! Your motiviting me to really work on my layout
Thank you!
tank facility for the cars you already have. glad to see more uploading lately. I’m just dying to see something finished and running. lol
Looking good so far, I would go with the loco shed, I think it’s working perfectly with that part of the scene 👍
tank car facility ftw! layout is looking awesome. i'm taking notes!
Thank you!
The tank car industry would look really cool
If you have enough space you can always put in an engine facility. So my pick is the tank car industry. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
The locomotive shed is a good idea. A track on the side that leads nowhere with rusty locomotives can be nice.
Salutations de France
Looking good! Making a ton of progress in a short time. Keep it going! I vote a locomotive shop!
Thank you!
This is amazing by the looks of it, the layout is coming along well for you! I'm amazed!!
I think a oil industry for the fuel tank cars would be good in the yard, but also a place for the locos to be fixed would be good, but I have to go with the oil industry.
Thanks man! I also appreciate your vote on the industry
@@TopRailroad Your welcome!
Locomotive shops. Right near the yard always looks good.
I like the engine shop idea, it would give a place for the engines to go if something were to happen. A tanker area is still possible on the other side the yard where the main line is.
Tank car industry would be nice to have.
Definitely the tank car facility
Layout is looking good!

Way To Go👍work It Slowly.
Locomotive shop. Your best layout so far.
Thank you!

Pretty darn cool,,,,,tank car inds
Hi Top Raiload & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Top Railroad & Friends Randy & Diesel Show
4:43 the cat in the layout, my dog Scooby Doo is good dog with the cats.
Nice cat.
i personally think that a tank car industry would be cool
I'm here for the cat.
i think the service facility/ engine shed would be best because it will look more natural to store your engines there then somewhere else on the layout
Engine service facility is my vote as long as you have a plan for a tanker area elsewhere. If not, a tanker area would work.
Locomotive shed is the most realistic of the two options.
Thanks for ideas on my n and ho scale layouts
You’re welcome thanks for the vote!
Absolutely you need to put a maintenance shop at your yard, it makes sense…..
Tank Car industry!
Tank car facility.

nice nice
Nice video
I think you could add one industry more. A logistics center of some sort that can take in any box car. You do have got the room for it.
Have you considered doing a diesel fueling facility with the engine house? That way you'd get both ideas in.
Your videos are the best
I appreciate that!
I never used the pink foam on my layout before but it does come in handy when putting in the trestle etc
Tankers is what I would like to see
If you’re planning to add a warehouse you should go with the tanker industry on the other side to give the layout more variety
Tanker facility definitely
I'd do the engine shop, I think engine shops look so good on a layout
I vote for tank car industry.

Train yard and bridge in the HO scale layout.
Unboxing of HO scale freight cars.
You cat is friend of my dog Scooby Doo.
Scrappy Doo my pup.
Scooby Dum is a nice dog.
😁😁😁
I would chose the engine shed as I have one on my layout and I LOVE it
Tank load/offload facility with storage tanks. Also, are you going to use cork roadbed? If not, why? Nice set up you built and thanks for the video.
It’s not always necessary especially with lots of track. If I had long stretches of single mainline I would though
👌
I think that engine facility would make more sense next to a railyard, but if you have the warehouse and siloes as the only industries, maybe tankcar industry would be better so there would be monre things to do on operating sessions
Would love to see an engine shed in that space
Stuff behind glass usually has a tendency to escape.
Servus Top Railroad, looks extremely good and the difference to the old Layout is enormous.......ps. I hope my comment wasn't the reason you tore down the old one, if you carry on like this the new will be amazing!!!
Thank you I think so as well! And no no I chose to do so on my own accord so no worries 😁
My vote is for a Tank Car repair facility much like the GATX facility in Evanston, Wyoming.
I think you’ll have more fun with an engine shed! Gotta have a place for your locos
You can always put the industry somewhere else

tank car facility would be awesome! In reality, these are very common and a huge engine facility for only a 3 track yard is not very realistic.
