9:50 If you need to 'install pants' (which is what I heard Calvin say . . . ), you started your day off wrong, & it's just getting wronger; or you're getting waaaayy too excited about bleeding brakes. :)

DOT 5.0 is mineral (silicone) and is tinted in a soft pink color so that it is not confused in the workshop, and DOT 5.1 is synthetic (not silicone) and starting from DOT 3 and 4 it has a light amber color. Both synthetics and mineral have the abbreviation DOT. The author does not know???

DOT-5 is not a mineral oil. You are correct that it is a silicone based fluid. Mineral oil is a hydrocarbon based oil. You cannot run DOT-5 in mineral oil brakes.

@@parktool However, you should not mix DOT 5 with 3, 4 or 5.1. Maybe that is what the commenter was talking about.

Dot 3,4 and 5.1 are polyglycol based and they are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture overtime) but silicone based 5 doesn't absorb water just like mineral oil. Anything but dot 5 is stupid for bikes, especially 5.1 which is the most hygroscopic brake fluid since you'll never need the superior boiling point or 5.1 in normal conditions...

So SRAM have finally admitted that DOT fluid for bike brakes is overkill and a stupid idea. After selling years worth of badly-designed and prone to early failure 'taperbore' master cylinder equipped systems. The number of these i have serviced to manufacturer specifications, only to have them fail again in too short a time. I use Shimano & Magura: you know they're going to work; even the cheap ones work well.
