I have these brakes and I love them but I wasn't a fan of the lever feel, so what I did was put a Shimano barb and olive on the hose lever end and put a Shimano XT lever on, which improved the feel by tons my opinion. As for the extra adapter on the clamp it is used for Sram Matchmaker compatible products so things like shifters and dropper levers.
Hey I've been wanting to do exactly that but been getting push back stating different stroke ratio, hose dimensions, fluid compatibility with seals. Would love to pick your brain
The extra bolt on the SRAM brake lever clamp is for using a single clamp for brake and shift lever or dropper lever. Cleans up the cockpit, but might limit your adjustments of the individual components.
Stoked about this install, I chose these brakes for my Trek Scratch build and have nothing but good things to say about them, great modulation, and 1 finger able. Cheers Gents!
I guess i belong in the UK cause i was never able to get used to right rear brakes! My front is on the right just like my motorcycles! I think them brakes look really nice! Ive been liking semi- metalic pads lately.
That bracket is called a matchmaker and its for mounting shifters or dropper depending on how your cockpit is set up .. I've just got a set of DB8 brake to replace my hope tech 2 evo's as I'm selling my DH bike and building a new one
I have these brakes on my Fezzari and I didn’t care for the modulation at first. I really like the fact that they used mineral oil. Mineral oil is hydrophobic so it lasts twice as long, half as much maintenance. After reading the comments I think I can figure out how to adjust it better to suit my riding style
I have those k rad tires on my 20” bmx , they roll so smooth on pavement and grip great on dirt and gravel ! I also have the mt200 and zoom4 because of this channel. Thanks
this is why in the uk we have the front brake on the left. "in 1870s and 1880s saw the development of the safety bicycle which roughly resembles bicycles today, with two wheels of equal size, initially with solid rubber tyres. These were typically equipped with a front spoon brake" and seeing as most people are right handed it made sense to use your strongest hand to pull the lever as back then then the brakes were pretty poor. I think its fair to say that in the uk we are a people of habit also id like to add i have these brakes and they really good but they need bleeding because from the factory they are pretty spongy and mine had some air in the system
All humans in all countries are mostly right handed, so why only the UK? I was always under the belief that we have the front brake on the right, so that we have our left hand on the bars and covering the rear brake when using arm signals to turn right on a public road. Turning right for us means going across the path of oncoming traffic, and the back brake is considered safer (more stable) to use one handed. Note that Australia and New Zealand also have front brakes on the right Conversely, countries that drive / ride on the other side of the road want their brakes the other way around so they too can use the back brake when turning across traffic, even though they are mostly right handed. What's not clear is why motorcycles throughout the world have front brake on the right and clutch on the left. Back brake may be done with the foot, but if I'm turning across traffic on a motorcycle without turn signal lamps, I'd rather be holding the clutch than the front brake, so I can speed up and slow down.
SRAM code brakes are the dh ones. I run them 223mm rotors. That small pice on the brake clamp is called sram matchmaker. It works with droppers and shifters.
Good to know, you know I figured that was the case. I love that Sram thinks of stuff like that. Also love that you think of just about everything we need!! Thanks for the recent mail Raxman. Can you say SHANMASHEE???
Did I hear that right? 15.09...."Wolfman is right" Never thought I'd hear the day that Jeremiah admits it 😂😂😂😂 Yes, front brake, right hand side, it's the correct way round. You guys also drive on the wrong side of the road 😂😂😂😂 I like the look of those brakes, they've got some really good features, looking forward to the realtime. Stay safe my friend 🍻😎👍
I'll definitely keep and eye out for the real-time review on the DB8 brakes. From what I've read they are basically Code brakes that have been changed to handle mineral oil vs. DOT fluid that SRAM uses on all their other brakes. Of couse, the fittings are different for the bleed ports to prevent(make it less likely) anyone from using a DOT brake bleed kit and cross contaminating them. Good news is that you guys already have the mineral oil SRAM uses in them around the shop, since I do believe I've seen you use Maxima oil from Finish Line when Jeremiah "attempts" brake bleeds successfully.
Ive got these came on my scott genius e930. I bent a lever first time out. They arent serviceable you have to swap the whole break cant just swap the lever which is a bit rubbish. Reading the comments im going to have to buy a sram bleed kit also
The frogs approve. What happened to the Ascension ride issue? As an owner of that bike, I'm super curious. Mailtime at the end is nice. Thanks y'all, my favorite bike review channel!
I just had a random thought for another video for you guys to do. How about doing a video with some Wolftick nation members helping Jeremiah learn patience so he can be better at brake bleeds! Or tubeless tire installs. Sometimes I think I still see all that sealant he spilled on the workbench in the videos.
I started cycling in my 40’s. At the time I was commuting on a motorcycle so I switched all my bikes to “Euro” style. Love being able to free my right hand up for the rapid shifter XT. Most of the folks I ride with think I’m.m nuts. Keeps them from wanting to try my bikes. Lol
Jeremiah is looking a bit green tonight. Love the frog background noise. Looking forward to the realtime review. Are you talking about the backwards front rotor?
I thought that same thing hey tick you might have jaundice , and your looking a lil sucked up , I hope your feeling ok, we all love you guys , I like how you stay down to earth with budget parts and you both are humble 👍🏽
Yes green my fault, I chose another light and cannot color grade!! Frogs are insane man, I also told Wolfman people were gonna hate it!! Realtime review is gonna be fun. Thanks Brother
Hey guys - unrelated question to this video: I scooped up an Axum DP and am looking to replace the fork. The stock fork on the Axum DP is actually a straight tube, even though the Axum DP has a tapered head tube. Kind of silly they did that if you want to go tapered fork as you'd need a new bottom headset. Without swapping out the QR hub, getting a new thru-axle hub and getting a fork with a thru-axle, I'm trying to stay QR and looking at the Epixon 29 120mm QR (straight tube.) Or, do I get a slightly better fork with the RockShox Judy Gold RL 29 120mm QR that's tapered and just get a new bottom headset ZS56/40 and top headset ZS44/286 and call it a day? Guess my question is, is the Rockshox worth spending about $80 more?
I've always preferred to work with mineral oil over Dot due to Dot's aggressive nature. If mineral oil is such a great brake fluid, why isn't it used in cars? Bottom line if I was 50 years younger and a serious downhill rider or racer, I would stick with Dot that can probably deal with higher temps and abuse. I'm not, so 3 out of my 4 bikes are running mineral oil Shimanos. Another benefit of mineral oil is if you have dry skin you can rub on your body. We have a lot of mosquitoes this year. I'm mixing it with Deet and rubbing it all over my body before Iride near any wetlands. We have frogs where I live; they eat mosquitoes. Hopefully they will eat enough mosquitoes that I can stop with the Deet and mineral oil. I now have an oily ring in my shower and mineral oil isn't cheap.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Maybe from back in the day...I’m pretty sure the Magura hydraulic rim brakes came with enough hose for a tandem. If not tandem length, probably cargo bike length.
I don't know SRAM is not known for braking power they are notorious for not stopping very well SRAM makes great chains though I'll stick to Shimano or tektro m275
Stop spreading nonsense, SRAM guides and codes are fine, SRAM gets people complain about them because they can’t bleed them. I’m so sick of wankers talking about how shit SRAM is, all because they twats that can’t bleed there brakes. I ditched my XT for codes. My DH bike has code calipers with guide rsc levers. The codes clearly have more oil in lever, similar to these DB8, however I have not noticed any real loss when they are hot on the guides
I would say you could put up a poll for what is people's favorite segment, but then you couldn't use that bit anymore unless it was actually FOR that segment.. so, nevermind, probably not gonna happen =)
13:45 its for a shifter mount. But as far as I could remember, there are some dropper levers that can be installed in the shifter mounts if you're running a 1x (well, as far as Shimano is concerned, may be wrong though).
I hate SRAM after owning Avids and other SRAM systems, total POS brake system and I hear some SRAM brake systems are garbage as well. Go Shimano if you have to spend money on a brake system and want a brake system that doesn't fail. Brake levers not returning to position, horrible to bleed and dot fluid were major issues with SRAM brake system garbage I have owned.
I have these brakes and I love them but I wasn't a fan of the lever feel, so what I did was put a Shimano barb and olive on the hose lever end and put a Shimano XT lever on, which improved the feel by tons my opinion. You have to order a special bleed kit for the Sram DB8

Loving the orchestra of tree frogs. They are singing here in Florida in full force.
