My mom kidnapped my siblings and I from my father and made us run off with her new husband. (I didn't find this out until last year while accidentally walking into my father's family on the sidewalk 1000 miles away). My stepfather was abusive for 10 years and I moved out at age 15. In the process of hiding us from my father and his family we moved to 7 different schools and lived in 10 different homes. Neither myself or my siblings decided taking it out on everyone else was the way to solve our problems. I've seen the worst of what the world has to offer and I can't stand when people use it as an excuse. Yes, there is ptsd and psychological trauma that can alter the way one functions as a human being, but this guy knew what he was doing, planned what he was doing, made videos about what he was going to do, and was quite sane about his intentions... even warning a student on his way into the halls. Debra you need to search the medication side effect of "homicidal ideation" & ask yourself if there is any difference between it & "premeditation" other than in premeditation you would have control, but homicidal ideation you do not. What did Christ say as he hung on the cross speaking of those taking his life? "Father forgive them!" Why? "They know not what they do!" To know that you would need a brain scan taken at the time of the shooting to see if there was enough conscious thought to do that. So, I came to the conclusion that I would literally do the exact opposite of what my parents had done and believe it or not, it worked out beautifully! I also, lived vicariously through them, giving them the childhood I wished I could have experienced. They had birthday parties every year and wonderful Christmases. When money was tight, I put things on lay away starting in July so, they would have a wonderful Christmas without disappointments. I did my best to make them feel special and more than anything, wanted and loved . They turned out to be amazing caring, loving, compassionate adults, who I am extremely proud of! -Hester Mongomery

Reading the comments I find it interesting how some ppl always find excuses for the terrible behaviour of a certain segment of the population but when it comes to another segment they're not as sympathetic.
In those cases they label those whole communities as the worst of the worst "as expected" bc that's what they grew up listening to in their surroundings and want the full extent of the law to be applied.
Yes, this is one dysfuntional family but so are others in other communities. That doesn't mean this one should be spared while others should be thrown to the lions.
Let's be consistent with our principles.

There, got it?
