Never been including the kick in the drum bus. I always put the kick in a bus with the bass and adding a MB to glue them. Thanks for the great videos Zen!
I include the kick in the drum bus. I like having my stuff sound pretty analog and with the right plugins on the drum buss it can give an analog emulation that can sound very nice and really make the drums sound nice. But having said that, other ways of grouping your drums are just as good for achieving whatever sound you're after.

Awesome! This is literally all you need to know about bus compression. Most the magic comes from the samples for sure!
And eqing is key. If you compress "shit", it will sound shit :D
