  • How to do a gravity blast/ one hand roll (freehand roll/ fulcrum technique). Recorded the summer of 2005 and at the moment, I was 17,.
Note: The reason I named this video "The Swedish Gravity Blast" is because it's in Swedish, not because I claim that I or any other Swedish person invented the technique.
A bit sloppy at some points, but hey, it did this on the behalf of a friend of mine.

Be happy with what you have. At least you have a girlfriend. Many people, including myself, don't have a girlfriend, boyfriend, partner or anyone, hell there's people who don't have good friends. You know what I mean? I personally would rather want a girlfriend who can blast beat like that or play metal guitar, or maybe bass lol.

This shows that, even if your roadies are clumsy oafs and destroy your kit, you can still perform a death metal concert perfectly well on just a snare. (I mean this as a compliment.)

  • @ripplecutbuddha

nice technique, and even though I don't play drums, or speak Swedish, I understand how it works. Essentially you're keeping tension on the stick both before contact with the rim, and after. That way the tip hits the head each direction. After mastering that, its' a matter of isolating the wrist movement and only using your forearm muscles for the move, which would take a lot of practice. What I'd like to see is two hands with this tenchnique. pretty neat. Thanks.

I have no idea what you said but I still understood the idea of doing this drum roll as if your shaking hands with someone. You strike the drum as you bend at the elbow, not a the wrist. You wouldn't shake hands that way.
It's a common mistake because the first rule of playing drums when you first start is to bend at the wrist, not at the elbow, in order to minimize motion.
