- How to do a gravity blast/ one hand roll (freehand roll/ fulcrum technique). Recorded the summer of 2005 and at the moment, I was 17,.
Note: The reason I named this video "The Swedish Gravity Blast" is because it's in Swedish, not because I claim that I or any other Swedish person invented the technique.
A bit sloppy at some points, but hey, it did this on the behalf of a friend of mine.
Back in the days of annotations there used to be one about 15 seconds in that just said “BORK BORK BORK”
I was wondering if this was just a reupload that didn't have it :'(
Thank you for blessing us with this information.
I came back for the bork bork bork 😩
Swedish shampoo commercial
Do every scandinav metalhead use flat iron on their hair ? :P

damn 🎸
man, legolas can play the shit out of that snare.
i wish my girlfriends hair were beautiful like this..
Mr. Big shot over here with his _girlfriend_
And whos fault is it that she doesnt?🤔
Be happy with what you have. At least you have a girlfriend. Many people, including myself, don't have a girlfriend, boyfriend, partner or anyone, hell there's people who don't have good friends. You know what I mean? I personally would rather want a girlfriend who can blast beat like that or play metal guitar, or maybe bass lol.
i feel like his his hair feels like silk
***** you just sound self conscious about your Sexuality, we're just talking about how someones hair looks really smooth, how is it gay to think that someone has smooth hair?
+nnathangrahamm hahahhahah
I feel like you wanna say "feels like" again
This shows that, even if your roadies are clumsy oafs and destroy your kit, you can still perform a death metal concert perfectly well on just a snare. (I mean this as a compliment.)
Even if they break your snare drum you can get two trash can tops and put your plastic vibrator on some hard surface and rock on
Snuff film quality.
Art house
LOL
@gordon hayward's broken leg There are tens of thousands amateur snuff films in internet.
-- where?
At 2:19 he says "slap my taint dirt", you're welcome.

Nice drumming, but depending on the comments, you should do Beauty Tutorials about Hair. ;D
Depending on? You mean based on?
Excuse me sir, I can't hear you over the hair.
i have a hunch this guy's right handed
I can't believe how easy he makes it look
The first blast video I ever saw on the innernette. And the best.

Yep , me too , I'm not even a drummer 🙂
Damn you are fast. I searched because I heard Ion Dissonance due this pattern on "The Last Time Repeat Myself"
Very cool, even with no english, it's perfectly understandable.
Also, you remember me of the Skwisgaar instructional video, when you do them wrong on purpose in a mocking way lol
I can't decide what's more amazing: your hair or your drumming. Either way, this is a hell of a video. Thanks!
I can't understand your native tongue of Heineken but I do understand your awesomeness of snare blasting. Keep preaching the word brotha, keep preaching the word
I was not aware of this technique. I'm deffinatly gonna try it out at my next band practise.
Tack!
This video is so beyond awesome. Do you know if anyone has posted it with English subs, or if you plan on doing it at some point?
I just learned so much more from this video and I cant even understand what this dude is saying....
Nice hair, Bro...
I'm dutch and I had english and german in school so I kind of get an idea of what people are posting in swedish.
Those two or three spanish comments were funny too.
btw;you write english very well but keep that vid swedish, damn right!
This is great, very informative even though it's in Swedish.
Do you play in a band?
By the way, your hair is really fucking straight, what shampoo and conditioner do you use?
lmfao
He ams uses human blood
That finale was gorgeous
holy shit you don't look 17! oh well
Thats a very exiting looking room your in there, you clearly went wild with the decorating. But seriously, keep up the good work.
It'd sound a lot better if you had a perm.
Thanks, I've seen this a year or two ago, and wanted to see it again. You should make more.
Mithril hair :O
I'm sorry,it's actually a great video man.A very good lesson, even if you wouldn't understand it.I don't drum but the sound of a snare makes me want to start playing...Great stuff!
2:08 UAAAAAAAAA VAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
* Swedish noises *
4 years later and I’m still laughing hard at that
I spent the whole video looking at your hair. It's...hypnotizing! It's great!
Bork Bork Bork Bork lmao
M8 I don't have the slightest idea what You were talking about and still got the point ;)) That said - good work and hope You make more videos. P.S. this is probably the best performed grav blast I've seen in a long time from a non rock-star drummer. Cheers!
Excellent man, that really helps just by watching your hands position. Snare sounds great by the way.
nice technique, and even though I don't play drums, or speak Swedish, I understand how it works. Essentially you're keeping tension on the stick both before contact with the rim, and after. That way the tip hits the head each direction. After mastering that, its' a matter of isolating the wrist movement and only using your forearm muscles for the move, which would take a lot of practice. What I'd like to see is two hands with this tenchnique. pretty neat. Thanks.
This video is a fucking classic. Bjorkbjorkbjork
I think that was the most awsome video i've ever seen, even though i couldn't understand it.... that facial expressions were priceless :D
I swear, I learn something new here every day.......Great skills.
Mycket bra.
Very good examples given. I really like your style.
I can't understand a word your saying but just your actions are more helpful than alot of these other videos hahaha.
good lesson, this is actually a pretty easy technique.
awesome! and what was better is that i didn't need to understand what you were saying to learn what you were teaching :p i wish i still had my drum set so i could go play now.
I don't understand Swedish but the handshake part is funny. awesome video.
I watched this one time and now I can gravity blast. thank you, Skwisgaar.
Just : Amazing.
[This video has been added to your favorites. ]
I've never heard about this technic and I couldn't understand any word you've said..hehehe...but your explanation(on video)speaks for itseff...thanks bro...see'ya!!!
I have no idea what you are saying but I like your tech bro man. good shit!
damn dude, nice video and really nice hair(no homo). Nice to see at the end how you mixed it up to make it more interesting.
Thanks. I totally understood everything. My favorite part was your name. Have a good day Johans.
I went twice to sweden this year and i totally dig the people and the language there,
holy shit thats nice man! Once I get a kit again I will practice this technique. Thanks for sharing
The best video of the day, interesting,do you have any other videos?Or anywhere where you play,in some band or something?Just want to hear more of your drumming, if's it possible.
Cheers
watched this video when it came out haha so many years!
True quote.
"If you can do a roll without a rim, you're good.
If you can do a roll with a rim, you're gifted" or something along those lines.
When I was around sixteen I learned this technique based off a reading a brief description calling it "How Buddy Rich did one-handed drum rolls." It wasn't until several years later that I realized that metal drummers used it too.
I lost it when I saw the subtitles.... well played, sir...
Master at the gravity blasts! Awesome hair by the way!
This clip is the Very First explanation/demonstration I ever saw for The Almighty GRAVITY FUKKIN BLAST years ago! Thank you very much! I'm Reminded Now!😀🥶😂☠🤣👽
I have no idea what you said but I still understood the idea of doing this drum roll as if your shaking hands with someone. You strike the drum as you bend at the elbow, not a the wrist. You wouldn't shake hands that way.
It's a common mistake because the first rule of playing drums when you first start is to bend at the wrist, not at the elbow, in order to minimize motion.
My sentiments exactly. Keep shredding Johans!
damn that's so sick. Sweden rules.
you made me wanna learn to drum and to speak Swedish xD
Tack så mycket. Det är bra. Jag förstå bara lite Svenska man... uhh the visual directions were enough for what I missed. Cheers.
the most helpful of any of the vids out there.. although i had no idea wtf you were saying :P subtitles please :D
oh and.. Silky smooth much?
That was good stuff.
Niin juu, hälsningar från Finland.
Han er den mest "Metal" mann som har levd. :D
He is the most metal person ever.
@Cannibalblast
First, thank you for posting; I am just still learning and have been trying to learn this method for a while. But in particular, 2:40 on is pretty awesome.
Thanks again.
I was able to learn a little bit even though I dont understand a word, thanks.
"Nu tänker jag avsluta med ett fult litet envirvelssolo."
Haha, gud vad jag dog när du sa det.
"God dag, jag ska göra enhandsvirvel, hallå, snyggt eller hur?"
Hahaha, skratta som fan där!
Haha :D Mægtig bra eller noget :p Du er super kodyl :D Hmm.. Well.. I tried to write in sweedish but I can't do that yet. I think you are so cool and funny in the way you explain =D I've never heard about that method and it's deffently something I gotta try. Greetings/hilsen frän Danmark, syd Fyn ^^ You Rock!
Damnit I was waiting for him to use both sticks with this technique to play an insanely fast roll.
kontinuerlig och fortsättande.Fortlöpande och oavbruten. Jämt flödande och utan avbrott ;D
Grym lektion, dock spelar jag bara gitarr än så länge.
Great video, thank you very much.
Even though I do not understand the words, this has helped me with hand placement.
Det här var riktigt värt :) Tack för tipsen, nu blir det öva!
I was over at my friend house, and he was showing me this technique, and i didn't even get it when he was trying to explain it to me, and i watch this video, in a foreign language to boot, and i think i get the concept. So, i agree, lol.
I love how he put it in a rudiment exercise at the end.
I had a blast learning this.
Holy Jesus Christ.
First of all, I didn't understand a part of it (except hair dresser), and still I knew what he was talking about.
Second, I need to practice this, this shit is amazing.
Its time for an update video!!
For all non swedes: What he basically says is that you shouldn't use your wrist. It should be stiff, your arm should be held in a straight line from your elbow to your hand. Like when you shake someone's hand as he demonstrate at 1:19 .
Väldigt intressant! Bra för att se tekniken, men också för att öva min svenska :) Bra gjort!
he makes it look so effortless :D
anyway you can get this translated?? he's explaining A LOT of important stuff in this video. out of all the videos i seen on blasting, this guy has it down the best.
