They have sooo many songs similar to this with all the transitions, switching between death metal to melodic folk, 70s prog, jazzy bits, etc...
Blackwater Park, Demon of the Fall, When, The Moor, Serenity Painted Death, Masters Apprentices, Coil/Heir Apparent are all classics. Enjoy dude!🤘🧝

Blackwater park is a masterpiece. The whole album. Will probably make you cry like myself.

This is one of my favourite live captures on the web. Kudos to the engineers who grabbed & mixed this.... you don't often get this quality outside of ze Germans! (there are some great live captures of heavy bands at Wacken, Rock am Ring, etc.)
Opeth & Jinjer are the only 2 bands employing extreme vocals on whose music I've spent actual money. So far anyway. The composition from both are great.

I've got a Live at Wacken video of Jinjer coming soon!! :)

Martin Axenrot is the drummer here, he is incredible. I was just like you in the beginning, couldn't get over the growling - Be careful, it'll grow on you before you know it! If nothing else, then at least as a compositional element for contrast. :) "Face of Melinda" was my favorite Opeth song before I could listen to the more aggressive stuff, you might enjoy that one although it's much simpler. If you want full progginess, Hessian Peel or any of their newer stuff, Mikael growls less nowadays.

It's like enjoying different drinks, sometimes Opeth is a fine wine, sometimes they're a shot to the face!

New follower here! First of all. Your new pair of headphones. Perfect for song analysis. They are pretty flat but they don’t sound dry or boring and the sound stage is good for a closed back pair of headphones. Not to mention that they are solid like a brick wall and the cables are very sturdy. I have mine since 2015. Changed the ear pads and that’s it. On another note I’m surprised that your channel isn’t bigger at this point. You are very knowledgeable, entertaining and you have great attention to detail. Keep up the great work!

As a Tool and Steven Wilson fan, you are bound to love Opeth :D I can see you have already in last 2 months. Great reaction my friend, got a new sub.

You might like Harlequin forest by Opeth if you liked this one, the live version or studio, both are great

4:07 - Yeah.. It is amazing how Mikael can produce such an growl. o_O
I am not an growly-fan and have been mainly New'peth fan (Heritage, 2011 forward) fan, but last year I managed to get to theri tour opening gig at this small club in Tallinn, Estonia and was "forced" to listen through many growly songs as well. And there, when I heard his live growl, I had to admint that it is not THAT bad. :D
But still I can't listen more than two songs from Ghost Reveries in a row before my ears needs some rest from the growls.. :P
Also he (Mikael) is a really nice guy. I bumped into him during Porcupine Tree concert in Stockholm about a month later and had an opportunity to personally thank him for the "Grand Rehearsal" they performed in Tallinn. :)

Dang it, now that you said "Newpeth" I'm going to have to try really hard not to say "Oldpeth" on my next reaction.

@@RightManWrongPlace And Oldpeth made me realize that there is an Oldpeth album, 20 years old, that is pure Steven Wilson produced bliss from start to finish. "Damnation". The first track "Windowpane" is such jazz fusion ... prog. :D

Nice to see you're checking them out. I would recommend Harlequinn Forest/Reverie live at Royal Albert Hall, Hessian Peel, Deliverance

I'm definitely seeing Hessian Peel come up a lot.

@@RightManWrongPlace Yes, even if there are other more known songs, my gut feeling says that Hessian Peel might be one of the more appealing songs for you ^^ But they have so many songs, so it's hard to pick. They also have lots of 100% clean vocals songs though. Åkerfeldt stoped growling 2011 xD You might even enjoy them more, I can't say. But I still think that the introduction to them goes through basically what people recommend. It's Oldpeth and Newpeth.

Yeah go for Hessian Peel or Baying of the Hounds next, Studio Versions next, such good tracks.

I think you will like A Fair Judgement from Shepherd Bush Empire 2003 concert... On this particular one (Ghost of Perdition) I kind of enjoy more the Roundhouse Tapes version as the growls were incredible back when it was recorded although maybe soundwise this one it's better... Studio version is great too for acoustic guitars etc... Also I forgot, in the studio version of Ghost of Perdition or in the Shepherd Bush Empire concert drummer is Martín López. On this concert (Red Rocks) it was Martín Axenrot...

there are headphones that come close to being flat, quite few and expensive, those audio technicas are popular, but I can assure you, flat they aren't ;)

Well, these are flatter than anything I have ever owned before, so...........good enough for now!

I use audio-technica ath-m30x’s for recording. For the same reason, they are nice and flat. You hear the audio exactly how it is.

@@RightManWrongPlace I did a bunch of research and the consensus was the 30’s were the only true studio quality headphones on the market for $100 or less at the time. The 40’s were a slight step above(I can’t remember if it was an added feature I wasn’t worried about or a slightly better frequency range that wouldn’t effect what I planned to do). But I was putting together everything on a budget at the time and the 30’s allowed me to get everything I need in the up to $100 delivered category. Anything 30 and above is a great quality for price for sure.
