Welcome, my boy. Opeth are one of the greatest. Blackwater Park might be the greatest metal album of all time!
Along with Lateralus
I love how the growls are so freaking clear
well its not the greatest metal album of all time. Probably the greatest prog metal album of all time tho
Along with From Mars To Sirius
deliverance too! (and almost every opeth record ever)
This is your first listen for Opeth!!!!? Welcome to the family. Other good songs are Deliverance, Windowpane, In My time of Need, Demon of the Fall, The Grand Conjuration, The Drapery Falls, Harvest, Bleak, Blackwater Park, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, the Lotus Eater, Heir Apparent, Coil, Burden. Those are all my fav.
If you like Opeth, do yourself a huge favor: skip these new live versions, they are not the best. The Lamentations Live dvd from 2003 is just pure gold. 2 sets: first mellow & no growls, second set "this is what we really sound like" Opeth
@@tubelious I prefer the album versions over any live versions, mostly because it's difficult (and in many cases impossible) to recreate many of their songs live with all the layers in the background/above the main song, layers that create and boost the atmosphere. Being at one of their gigs is obviously a different matter since just being there and hearing that powerful stuff live must be amazing. As for Lopez vs Axe, I find both drummers very very good and I won't/can't say one is better than the other, just that they have somewhat different styles.
@@scyphe sure, both are great drummers, just different styles. But Mikael's vox on these new live releases are not nearly as good as on Lamentations, Roundhouse Tapes and Bloodbath's Live a - The Wacken Carnage 2005.
The thing that many take for granted is that this is completely live, many bands arent able to show this amount of talent in studio. Hard song to play and sing and done almost flawlessly.
"I was not expecting that" The mantra of som one listning to Opeth ☕
"It's a long song" the Second mantra of an Opeth listerner 😘
The dude knows where it's at. The chick can't handle a masterpiece.
Some people just dont appreciate technical music 😁
@@onlysanepersonleft Yea advanced and better music. They will just stick to the mediocrity of pop.
@@nikelodeon6852 Exactly what I was thinking.
YES MEAT BAGS!! Opeth are an awesome band. You should listen to Lotus Eater by them too. Stay metal or your planet shall become an apocalyptic wasteland quicker than intended!..also......hunky boy Mat...I like your T-shirt.
It always makes my day to read your comments. Stay heckin' awesome PG!
This was such an awesome show to be at. The other two bands that played were Gojira and Devin Townsend. If you ever get a chance to go to Red Rocks, do it. Best venue in the world.
Opeth is a rabbit hole it gets deeper,it never ends
Opeth’s every song is a masterpiece
Next time bleak my opeth you’re gonna love it
You guys should check out Bloodbath - Eaten (Live At Wacken 2005) those vocals by Michael are INSANE
Excellent recommendation
The best vocals ever!!!
EATEN is one of the best death metal songs ever recorded
That whole show is probably the best live recorded death metal act I ever heard. (the audio I mean)
Would have been crazy to see this live, probably one of my favourite songs off that album.
Love your honesty and this band! 😊
Excellent!!! Opeth are one of the best bands ever...period. Welcome to the rabbit hole, guys! It's deep! Chels will warm up to them...lol
Ohhhh sh*t, welcome to Opeth! One of the top metal bands of all time!
Harlequin Forest would be my recommendation for next Opeth video! :)
Opeth is my favorite band of all time, there are so many albums, some are heavy death/doom but all of them have interludes of clean vocals and calm. Their latter albums are all clean vocals and still rock just as hard.
The lady she cannot handle masterpiece
Listen to the rest of this concert! I dont like growls, but I fell in love when I watched this show.
More Opeth! 🤘 such great musicians and a diverse discography!
Great reaction.
This isn't straight metal, it's progressive metal, and when it comes to Opeth they're not like any other well known progressive metal band (dream theater etc.). Other songs off the same album (Ghost Reveries) which I recommend are Baying of the Hounds, Harlequin Forest and The Grand Conjuration (they're all tied into the story that starts with Ghost of Perdition).
Their Blackwater Park album is a great start when it comes to exploring Opeth's sound (Bleak, Blackwater Park, Burden etc.) since basically every album is different from the previous one in one or many ways.
They've also done albums with all-clean vocals (Damnation which contains the beautiful songs Windowpane and Death Whispered a Lullaby). Most of their songs are multifaceted and are oozing atmosphere and mood. From what I've seen, reacting to the full studio versions of their songs is just fine. The only issues seem to be with some commercial live releases where ownership may differ.
ps. it usually takes a certain amount of musical.. (hmm, trying to find a non-offensive way to write it).. listening experience to appreciate/"get" the progressive elements of bands like this, esp. when it comes to Opeth where the contrast is quite sharp in some songs. As for his growls, they do sound different on their albums (I prefer the albums over their live recordings even though the live recording quality if usually superb). Besides, growling tends to be an acquired taste, taking time to accept and then really enjoy it. I tend to view the switch between growl and clean vocals as a switch between two different entities/sides/characters in the stories that the songs are about.
This could be me and my wife debating on the song 🤣🤣🤣 Great reaction.
Lol, i was learning this song on the guitar yesterday
“I don’t want to piss anyone off..”
You did. Opeth fans are not happy
His vocals were a bit nasally at passages, which usually isn't the case. I'm not sure about it, but I seem to remember someone commenting, that Mikael Äkerfeldt in an interview had mentioned, that he had a cold during this concert.
Regardless, I am sure that you will fall in love with his voice during the next Opeth songs. I recommend anything from the Blackwater Park album or Deliverance =)
Oh, god. Just discovered them. More of Opeth, please. Harlequin Forest, for example.
The sound engineer really outdid themselves during the recording of this DVD from Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Although, there was the usual problem with cables in another track. Actually, Opeth was one of the things that inspired Mark Jansen (Epica´s guitarist and growler) to found another band alongside Epica, which is called MaYaN. It is in a way Epica put on its head. MaYaN - Saints Don´t Die (official video) when you feel like trying it. :-) It may not be the time yet as you just started with Epica.
Loved it! My favourite band of all time, I would give you other song recommendations but it's honestly not necessary, just pick one they're all great👌
Opeth is life.
That's cool that you went into Opeth. You could maybe try "The Moor", from an older period. I'd really like to manage to see your lives but hey, here in France, it begins at like 3 in the morning soooooo... too bad :/ :/.
Then I'd like to suggest something heavy for you : Frontierer - "Molten Larva" or "Bleak". The first one is "slower", the second a bit faster. This band is heavy enough to change the laws of gravity. Their album "Orange Mathematics" is one of the heavyest shit I've EVER heard in my life, and I've heard plenty, but holy shit, this could erase a city from the maps. Anyways, cheers from marseille ! Keep enjoying music !
He knows what's up.
In the words of Chandler Bing - "Could she be more dead?"
"He doesn't look like he'd have those vocals" XD
Yeah I've heard that Mikael is an absolutely sweet teddy bear of a man in person. Great band with a lot of range.
5/10 o_O
Good grief.... please tell me what you're listening to, 'cause there must be a whole genre of musical magnificence out there somewhere, which I've somehow missed for the last 40+ years!! LOL
Opeth are *so* good. And this is an excellent live capture of a solid arrangement of a great song. Damn near 10/10 from me too! :)
Awsome reaction guys! More Opeth please! Maybe try studio version next time ✌️
Try the drapery falls live at royal albert hall. Or harlequin forestr live at royal albert hall. His clean vocals are muuuch better there. And if you do something of roundhouse tapes its even better. Windowpane for example. I did not care for ghost of perdition the first time I heard it, but now its one of my favourites. Good video guys.
10/10 Opeth, the BEST
Harlequin Forest
Listen to Heir apparent. There is a technique for such singing without straining the vocal cords. And he is not growling in their last four albums but they are still great
Damn this girl is a total babe. Holy cow
This is the highest level of the modern bard and a unique example of why Europeans are quite something else, creatively speaking, in this realm of music. God-like.
Nice reaction! I LOVE your channel. Got kinda addicted to it :D
So, Opeth is one of the most unique bands out there. Nothing compares to them.
You should listen to "Hex Omega" by Opeth. Insane solo on it and overall great atmosphere and immersion.
edit: and an anthem like ending that is soooo gooood :D PLS!
Opeth has a variety of styles. Their older stuff has the death growls mixed with the cleans...their newer stuff is just clean vocals. They get more progressive in their newer stuff too. I like it all. Some people prefer the older stuff. People who don’t like their older stuff may like their newer stuff.
You really like the word stuff, don’t you.
Nice reaction guys! you need to listen more songs as I think Opeth is one of the best metal bands out there... just my opinion :)
Deliverance (Studio version), thats all you need to know fam ;)
between the buried and me - white walls?
BARREN EARTH - "Set Alight"
You're welcome 😉
Aah yes, the Swedish Kings of progressive metal 😌
One of the all time great prog metal songs.
My next suggestion would be Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize (live in Tilburg). Its a 17 min masterpiece. Porcupine Tree is another one of those modern prog rock bands that bought a new wave of the 21st century progressive rock sound. One of the best in their genre if not the best in my opinion. You guys should definitely check them out if you havent already.
Btw Steven Wilson (PT's frontman) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth's fromtman) have collaborated on a few projects as well. Incredible musicians. Enjoy Guys!!
You should definitely listen to Lotus Eater by Opeth from the Watershed album.
You guys have to react to some traitors.disappoint and short fused are great
Blackwater Park, The Moor, or Hessian Peel next?
8:10 Mikael in Bloodbath
Mikael in Bloodbath are an amazing contrast to Opeth.
The performance of the song "Cancer of the Soul" (Wacken 2005) are my suggestion
Mikael's growls are way better during the Lamentations (Live at Shepherds Bush Empire 2003) show. 'Master's Apprentices' &/or 'Deliverance' from Shepherds would be great songs to react to from the heavy set. The Damnation album is performed at that show too, no growl vocals in those songs & those songs are way more mellow than their heavy stuff.
I do believe that in there very early days and Amon Amarths early days, they swapped members.
When you have the time, please check their Black Rose Immortal 🖤. Probably the best 20 min of my life 😆🎸🐐
This is the best prog metal band these days. A classic of theirs.
Chel, listen to the album "Damnation" and you might change your opinion. (No growlings, there). Just a suggestion. :-)
Harlequin forest OPETH
The growls grow on you. Try something off the Damnation album if you want more clean stuff
Fantastic song played amazing musicians. If you do not like this… what can I say?
Hey can you react to Armored Saint (Aftermath.. official live. One of the best bands of the 80s.
Check out Alluvial- 40 Stories
Chels is not a person to rely on vocals, Mikael is metal
I don't know how mainstream music gets popular, but I have a hunch how non mainstream musicians gets popular. They create something original. Don't play like your idols. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Dream Theatre and Opeth. These bands didn't get famous for their musical skills. They got famous because they didn't sound like anyone else at the time.
Opeth is not music, they're a journey
BURDEN!!!
Next step is Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree.. You're Welcome.
Honesty is never a bad thing, you won't catch hate from me nor most opeth fans.
Opeth is prog-metal and many of their songs even to me will get a shitty out of ten.
It's a very diverse band, you WILL find a song you love.
Opeth don't have any bad songs...
@@heal4066 yes, yes they do
@@jerpanils8875 yet to.find one..
The greatest metalsong of alltime. Better than Master Of Puppets. Shoot me.
"2 zombies reacting to Opeth"
Why nobody do the reaction to "The Grand Conjuration"
Please do bleak next
Why is Mikael listening to his own band and song😄😄😄 Just kidding
He looks like he could be his brother or something 😅💯
Ghost of Perdition best song ever written period. I mean you can argue for bleed by meshuggah , but thats it .
Interesting that she didn't like the color of his voice!
In Bloom - God the Animal.
PLEASE.

@@MatandChelsReact oh. Thank you!
Not for Chels? Maybe then another Scandinavian band (she must like this for sure). From Nightwish country (Finland) there's another popular band called *POETS OF THE FALL* .
Check out *_"Carnival of Rust"_* (live): ruclips.net/video/AGPpUTPzS6k/видео.html (a nearly all girl/female audience 😉).
Btw. sorry Chels, I'm with Mat, I like OPETH for several years too, esp. the early works.
You look like him😅😆
😆
@@MatandChelsReact ❤❤❤
Great song. I personally like the roundhouse tapes live recording of this better. The vocals are much better in that.
It's not for chels, ok. But mat knows good musicianship. Opeth are absolute prog-masters. Hope, mat look up more opeth.
wait, don't give this one 10/10, You haven't heard Deliverance and Blackwater Park yet.
5 out of 10? .... are you kidding me?!!
Nope. Not kidding.
5/10 huh?
Low energy from her
Your reaction was ill.
Honestly the more i listen to this song over the years the less i like it. You should react to The Baying of the Hounds by them
vocals not for me? are u f kidding me? that's sooo rare lmao mikael is the best metal vocal, angelic and demonic voice of all fking time😂
They're not the best in this performance
@@Johnytomm the growls? yes. but the clean is still very good imo
5/10? go back to your birthright hiphop girly girl...
Say what? Chels doesn’t even listen to hip-hop. 😂
@@MatandChelsReact She shure as hell don't listen to Metal if she gives this song a 5/10
Because she wasn’t feeling this song? Maybe you should go through the comments and see other fans stating this wasn’t their best performance. Don’t be an elitist. There are metal bands we listen to that you wouldn’t like. Music is subjective.
Aw come on brother. Not everyone has to love every piece of music that we do.
