    Opeth is one of the richest musical experiences you can find, whether it's in one song or in their entire discography. I always love seeing people new to Opeth, because they have no idea just how many amazing pieces they could listen to. Mikael Akerfeldt is a genius composer and one of the best musical storytellers out there.

  • @nunalves7
    @nunalves7 4 месяца назад +7

    Yes, it's the same singer doing all vocals.
    Amazing band with amazing musicians.
    They have songs with only the soft vocals, songs with only harsh vocals and songs with booth.

    My favorite band.
    All time.
    Opeth is all about the dark and the light.
    Mikael Akerfeldt does all the vocals.
    The man is a genius.
    This band is pure genius.
    MORE OPETH PLEASE.

    Opeth has such a beautiful way of painting a picture. In the soft moments, it's so comforting, almost hypnotic. The intense moments snap you out of it and it really does feel like it takes you on a journey.
    Ghost of Perdition absolutely needs to be next. It's also worth checking out the live version of this song from Royal Albert Hall (not necessarily as a reaction)
    Andrei, you would be happy to know that their album "Damnation" is all that clean vocal chill vibe stuff. Fantastic, meaningful album for me.

    Growling usually takes time for people to get accustomed to. Mikael Akerfeldt is often talked about as someone who’s really great for people getting into the heavier vocal style because his harsh vocals are so polished and easier to understand. I really only listen to harsh vocals nowadays, as a metalhead, so it’s funny when people say it’s way too heavy, but I understand how shocking it can be when you’re not used to it.

    Man I miss Martin Lopez. The outro that gives tension is supposed to represent being lost in the forest, circling and getting nowhere, which is why it loops.

  • @Wolfsblood1138
    @Wolfsblood1138 4 месяца назад +3

    That outro is so beautifully menacing. I get the feeling of being chased through a dark forest by unknown entities, looking over my shoulder and not seeing anything, but knowing something is coming. For a long time this song was my wind down to the day. The song that calmed me so i could sleep.
    This whole album is amazing. It's not exactly a concept album, but there are several songs that are connected by a narrative theme. Well worth exploring.

    The other band you were referring to would have been Jinjer, and "fun fact" the singer from Opeth is one of her role models and influences

    Opeth started as a Melodic Death Metal band but has progressed more into a straight Progressive Metal band over the years. I've seen them live several times and they are GREAT live as well. The next experience should be "Ghost Of Perdition" live at Red Rocks in USA. It's an exceptional show of how great they are live, and Mikael Åkerfeldt show how great he both growls and sings beautifully.

      opeth was never black metal. they were melodic death metal or perhaps melodic black metal. early opeth had more in common with iron maiden than Satyricorn or Dimmu Borgir. don't believe me? listen to the guitar riffs and harmonies

    Opeth's music is not something to just listen to but to truly immerse oneself in.....such awesome musicianship and very well thought out structures and lyrics...makes you think! In their music today they no longer use the harsh vocals and lean more to the progressive side. Interestingly, it's Mikeal that does both the harsh vocals and the beautiful cleans! 'Fun fact,' Mikeal and Steven Wilson are good friends and have contributed to each others albums! Thanks for the great listen/reaction!

    Katatonia is another super band from Sweden thats heavy underrated if you ask me. Listen to one song dont do it because they change style so much on same album. In To The White from the album The Great Cold Distance is a good start though 😊 greetings from Sweden.

    I got into Opeth in 2005 after reading a review that said “these are the only cookie-monster vocals you can take seriously,” and I very much agree. My suggestion: jump all the way to the latest work to hear them at their “cleanest.” The growls went away around 2011.

    I've been waiting for this reaction. Sadly you didn't the live version, wich is fantastic well performed and you would have got the answer at your question at the singing parts. Mikael Åkerfeldt is the official singer and singing the most parts (aswell as playing guitarr), but the keyboard player is also filling an important role as a backround singer aswell. However... great reaction video!

    the growls are very effective in that they increase the overall heaviness of the piece, and the fact that they sound great doesn't hurt either. with that said, i don't understand why so many people are put off by them.

    A problem with listening to just one Opeth song is like just watching one scene from a movie. When I listen to Opeth, I always listen to the whole album. It's a musical journey. But of course not something you do for a reaction video. But I recommend that you in your spare time sit down and listen to the full albums. It's well worth it :)
