Finally! This is the side of rock and metal I was hoping to see you dig into more! I don't mind all the mainstream / classic rock reactions but I hope this song gets you to make more room for exploring lesser known and more modern metal bands. Seeing you discover bands like Opeth and Gojira is what keeps me interested in the channel, and this video felt like I was back in those days. I hope this opens the gateway to you finally checking out bands like Paradise Lost, Anathema, Agalloch, Ulver, Alcest and Cult Of Luna. There aren't many people requesting them now but it will bring interest to your videos the same way the Opeth and Gojira reactions did.
Couldn't agree more with Ulver. Low-key would love a reaction to to the Drone Activity stuff. Some Icelandic weirdness would be awesome too. Some Sólstafir, some Svartidauði.
I see we share a common interest in metal bands. Totally support the recommendations, however thinking about it... I'm pretty sure Agalloch's long narrative song structures would bore the LiV guys though lol. Cult of Luna too I can imagine them saying "There were a lot of really cool riffs but they could have trimmed the song down some".
Katatonia is essentially 2 guys - Jonas Renkse (vocals) and Anders Nystrom (guitar)... who founded the band in the early 90's, initially as a black metal project (Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt contributed vocals to early records) ... Jonas also played drums and bass, while Anders also played bass on some recordings, but they eventually hired more members for Katatonia ... Jonas and Anders also have a death metal band Bloodbath (Jonas on bass, Anders on guitar... current vocalist is Paradise Lost's Nick Holmes). After recording black metal albums, Katatonia changed up their sound in 1998 for their 3rd album 'Discouraged ones' w/ Jonas Renkse doing lead vocals and transforming their sound towards doom metal & gothic rock... After 2000, Jonas and Anders delivered some masterpieces w/ Katatonia... 'Last fair deal gone down' (2001) is just a dark descent into sonic depression w/ songs like - "Don't tell a soul"... 'Teargas'... 'We must bury you'... This album from 2006 was Katatonia's 7th album 'The great cold distance'... considered their best record. The single 'My twin' was a standout... along w/ 'July'... 'Leaders'... "Soil's song"... 🤘🤘💀💀 Over the years, Katatonia has changed members frequently... their latest album in 2023 is 'Sky void of stars'... joining Jonas and Anders are... Roger Ojersson (guitar), Niclas Sandin (bass) and Daniel Moilanen (drums). Other Katatonia songs to check out - 'I break'... 'Dead letters'... 'The longest year'... 'Opaline'... 🔥🔥
Y'all finally reacted to Katatonia! I'm glad to see you guys enjoyed their music. "My Twin" by them would be right up your alley. Saw them in Vegas of all places last year @ Resorts World. I recommend anyone reading this comment to listen to (Discouraged ones). It's an amazing life changing album.🤘
I appreciate the information. Katatonia is a band that I’ve danced around for several years. I have heard songs by them that I have really liked, but you know how it is with music. I get buried in so many different bands, that I never get back to them. I’m gonna check out that album. This song impressed me, so I hope the album will make a fan out of me. 👊🏼👊🏼
Cannot believe you guys made it to Katatonia, so awesome! You have a long list of amazing tracks to dig into...."Teargas", "Evidence", "The Racing Heart".....it goes on. Keep 'em coming boyz!
Thank you for reacting to this song. My mother died when I was 10 in the month of July. This song means a lot to me. Katatonia is an amazing band. Great reaction guy’s!🤘🏼🤘🏼
Leaders is the song I'd recommend off of this album. It's got a strong groove, while being proggy as hell. I just saw these guys a few days ago on 70,000 Tons of Metal. They, of course, played this song.
The special edition of this album have the bonus song "Unfurl" which in my opinion is one of their best tracks, it's VERY different compared to their usual style / genre, it's actually much more a Trip-Hop track than it is rock / metal, but the atmosphere in that song is still very Katatonia -like, they absolutely pull it off 100% - Given your recent discovery / love for Trip-Hop and now you've listened to Katatonia, I'd say "Unfurl" is a must listen!
So excited!! Highly recommend their song Brave, one of my all time favourite songs and has Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth providing the growls, possibly his best harsh vocals performance ever!
The riff on this song bangs so hard. The transitions are really clean and the vocals are smooth. This album as a whole is one of my absolute favs. Night is the new day, soil song, and deadhouse would be my song suggestions.
This reaction put a smile on my face. This album is special to me, I had just moved to a snowy town in Canada for College back in 2006, alone, broke, depressed, and the only thing i had was this Katatonia CD which had just come out, in my car. That album is all I listened to for a full year, along with 'Damnation' by Opeth, and they both always got the rage out of me and made me feel better. They are both very dark albums and they were the right feel to go with a snowed in dark depressing winter in a sleepy college town. This album kept me company.
Viva Emptiness is the only Katatonia album I have and I agree, absolute fire. Off the top of my head the songs Evidence and Omerta are my favourites. Definitely an album need to revisit.
Ohhh the smile on my face before the first chorus, as you guys are steady headbangin’ away. LOVE it. “Forsaker” is another good one by them. And so is “Soil’s Song”. They’ve got SO many. Glad to see you guys are doing them.
I saw this thumbnail float by and was psyched to see the reaction. Randomly caught these guys years ago live at the NE Hardcore and Metal Festival, and was totally blown away by the performance. Amazing band, thanks for giving them a chance!
I rarely comment on YT vids but want to say this has quickly become one of my fave music reaction channels. It's one thing to broaden horizons, but another to trawl the subgenre depths as deep as y'all do, and while always bringing honest, totally tuned-in reactions to the table. In that spirit, I recommend *Agalloch*. I'd dive in headfirst - "The Melancholy Spirit", "Falling Snow", "Hallways of Enchanted Ebony" or for a surprisingly thorough short song, "She Painted Fire Across the Skyline part 2".
So glad you finally came around to Katatonia! Great band! Great song! I'd be interested to see what song you do next from them. They can do no wrong but I'd love to see you review: Consternation, My Twin, City Glaciers, Hypnone, The Parting. Great stuff!
The great cold distance i feel is kind of where i feel they found their sound. I seriously love just about everything by them. Theyve just continued to evolve and write great music. Their latest album isnt long out and is brilliant 😎
That's the power of music/art. Your senses get overwhelmed and you react by laughing hysterically, crying, whatever. Been enjoying your genuine reactions for years, keep exploring.
Already like, this is a band that is very consistent these days and do not disappoint. Lots of echos of early Bloodbath in this too...im gonna have to go back and re listen to the library, keep killin the game boys.
Soooo glad y'all did Katatonia!! This band has been under the radar, while writing some of the most beautiful music, for many years. They are heavy, yet extremely melodic. Very nuanced. The drums are overlooked, but always amazing. The "Dead End Kings" have been put on the map, thanks to you guys!!
I really got into katatonia the last year and The Great Cold Distance became my favorite album from them. For me, Jonas has the most beautiful voice in metal/rock. I hope you guys do more songs from them. My suggestion is Soil's Song from the same album.

Early 90s I got into Amorphis and that got me into Katatonia, there are a lot of awesome Swedish and Finnish bands out there. Also you guys should get back to Amorphis check out some more of their songs.

This band went through a lot of different sounds over the years so there are songs by them you'll love and songs you might not be that into. Here are some songs that you'd really like: Forsaker, In The White, Lethean, Dead Letters, Residual, The Night Subscriber. A lot of people are requesting My Twin which is their most popular song but it's very straightforward and simple, I'm not sure if it would be good for a reaction video. I would say check that song out in your own time and react to one of these, which have a lot more variety.

Now here's finally a really interesting choice! To be honest, I stopped watching/listening to you guys for a while because it felt like you weren't exploring so much anymore, at least in the world of Rock. And let me tell you, if you enjoyed this, then you should have listened to my suggestions a loooooooong time ago. I could point you in the direction of music that is truly great, but sadly somewhat overlooked. Like Katatonia! What a great band. If you liked this, then they have a bunch of other awesome songs. You can't go wrong with any of the following songs. -My Twin (this feels like their "most well known single" type of song) -Lethean -Day And Then The Shade -Old Heart Falls
Love your reaction to this song. I had a similar reaction to "Longest year". As a then-huge Dream Theater fan and other virtuosity fan, that song was an eye-opener. It's a simple song overall, but has loads of tricks packed throughout the song. These guys are super intelligent musicians.
Katatonia has been my favorite band since first hearing them nearly 20 years ago, but are sadly seem underappreciated. So happy to finally see them here after hoping/asking for a while to cover them. They're a band that's put their heart into every record and stayed true to making the music they want to make. This reaction was a joy to see, thank you!
Finally Katatonia!! Such a gem of a band. Probably won’t get you outlandish views/likes but they will open up something new in listeners and that is always more important. Don’t stop with this one song!
So glad you guys got to Katatonia!! You're in for a treat, just about everything they release is an absolute banger! Here's some essentials: I Am Nothing. Chrome, Tonight's Music, Ghost Of The Sun, Sleeper, Burn The Remembrance, Evidence, Leaders, Day And Then The Shade, The Parting, The Racing Heart, Dead Letters, Old Heart Falls... That's probably enough to get you started
in the winter of 2020 the youtube algorithm put this album in my recommended. I had never heard of katatonia but the art intrigued me, so i clicked, and wow. i usually dont listen to albums in full, but i must have listened the great cold distance about 100 times that winter.
Glad I checked this reaction out. Never heard this track...very good song. And thanks for sharing that Mikael Ackerfeldt was part of this. Ackerfeldt is IMO some kind of metal savant.
Please do Soilwork! Any of the following tracks will do: * A whisp of the Atlantic (epic 17 min song) * Arrival * Stålfågel (means Bird of steel in Swedish) * The ride majestic
Check out the band Bloodbath which features Jonas together with some Metal Elite. (Ex Katatonia members, Paradise Lost singer etc.). Also had his friend Mikael from Opeth in it. Other bands to review : Alcest, Les Discrets, Amesoeurs, Amenra (solitary reign or 'le cercle'), Brutus ('what have we done' or 'war'), Heretoir (golden dust), Myrkur, Eivór (Trøllabundin, either with symphonic Orchester or the version outside on top of a Fjord)
Hyped that you guys like these guys! Such a great and underrated band, his vocals can be pretty diverse too but are always smooth. Atrium or austerity next!! From newest album.
Good morning sunshine, welcome to the world of Katatonia. They just happen to be one of the most diverse, emotional bands out there right now. Might be an unpopular choice, but check out the song Old Heart Falls. That hits me in the gut every time I hear it. Also, My Twin is a great one, or we must bury you. it's just hard to go wrong with this band. Enjoy the Rabbit hole, and keep up the great work.

Waves collide now
Defenseless numb arms
And no voice of reason
So how come you invited me too
You knew I wanted you
You glide above
So this night belongs to you
I know this isn't through
Are you dead to love
I see the bright lights
It's the month of July
It's violent here
Why have you left me
If only you could stay
And keep me in
It's violent here
Why did you run from me
Heat
Night devour me

Hell yeah, so pumped to see ya'll have Katatonia on here! 🤘 A few of the members are also in Bloodbath if you want something very different. They got range! 🤘
george's stank face and nod at 7:57 is exactly what i was waiting for. that little drum fill with the closed hatsl
What a pleasant surprise this reaction was! Katatonia has some really good stuff.
These guys are consistently solid, anything off this or The Fall of Hearts.
The Fall of Hearts is so solid!!!
I’d love to see you review Myrath, and Paradise Lost.
Great. You finally got to Katatonia. One of the first bands I found after digging deeper than Tool, Opeth,
This has been my favorite band for the last few years. It's awesome to see you guys react to them.
-My Twin (this feels like their "most well known single" type of song)
-Lethean
-Day And Then The Shade
-Old Heart Falls
Thanks for the discovery of a new great band! It's FIRE!
Shout out to Orthrys in the intro! My favorite of the up-and-coming bands they've featured so far.
I feel pretty confident when I say that Jonas, the vocalist, is one of the best metal vocalists of all time
Glad I checked this reaction out. Never heard this track...very good song. And thanks for sharing that Mikael Ackerfeldt was part of this. Ackerfeldt is IMO some kind of metal savant.
It was only incredibly early on. They actually were both together in a death metal band called Bloodbath.
"Rusted" is another amazing song on this amazing album. I am so glad that yall liked this song as much as you did.
I love this track madly, "Rusted" is without a doubt one of my favourite tracks of all time.
Please do Soilwork!
Any of the following tracks will do:
* A whisp of the Atlantic (epic 17 min song)
* Arrival
* Stålfågel (means Bird of steel in Swedish)
* The ride majestic
July!!! Such an amazing song by an amazing band🖤🤌🏼
1st time hearing this band and its fire.
Finally Katatonia, woot!
They got Leaders on their Patreon yall. I'm trying to get them to do Forsaker, I think they'd dig that one too.
Hyped that you guys like these guys! Such a great and underrated band, his vocals can be pretty diverse too but are always smooth. Atrium or austerity next!! From newest album.
hell yeah, i've requested this band for years here on youtube, Teargas, Passing Bird, Unfurl, My Twin, In The White, Lacquer, they are just phenomenal
Wasn't expecting to see someone reactiimg to Katatonia. I clicked so fast in the thumbnail!
Heck yes! Love this song!
Katatonia has some FIRE tracks, all up to their latest work
Katatonia is great. If you're planning on tackling more from them, Lethean is a fun one.
My favourite album of all-time. Stoked that you discovered them finally, plenty more to enjoy across their discography!
Finally katatonia! Check out lethean and the racing heart
