No way. Somebody’s actually reacting to Katatonia? They have so many good albums and songs. Swedish metal is usually quality stuff.
Hell yeah man 🤘🏻
Right!? I was thinking the same thing! So stoked to see Katatonia getting love! They’re one of my favorite bands! I wish I could do reactions to them. Maybe I’ll do their new stuff when it comes out.
@@musikbyjh their new album is crazy good. Sky Void Of Stars. My balkan rapper friends is starting to convert to metal heads because i play Katatonia for them 😂😂😂❤❤ We swedes know metal alright 🤘🤘🤘
@@DrMcKay66 oh I that is awesome! So glad to hear that! Yeah, that new album is KILLER. I like it far more than City Burials. They kind of lost me on that one…there are about 3 songs that I really like. But the new album is dope.
Dead End Kings is also one supreme album. ❤❤❤
So glad you guys are covering Katatonia! Especially this album ❤️🤞🏼
Man, The Great Cold Distance is one of the greatest albums out there. So stoked to see a Katatonia reaction, too!
That is one of the best albums in metal history. I find it very different from any prog act.
@@IonutTudoricathat's because is actually not prog. Is closer to alternative metal.
As others have suggested, "Soil's Song" and "My Twin" are both great songs from this album.
Hear, Hear!
My two favorite songs with Katatonia!
There isn't a bad song on that album, but I always feel like "Rusted" gets overlooked.
YES!!! My Twin is beautiful and Soil's Song is their Meshuggah song.
Deliberation is my favorite from this album, I feel it is a bit underrated
Saw them live twice! One of the best Swedish Metal bands hands down!
Y'all finally reacted to Katatonia! I'm glad to see you guys enjoyed their music. "My Twin" by them would be right up your alley. Saw them in Vegas of all places last year @ Resorts World. I recommend anyone reading this comment to listen to (Discouraged ones). It's an amazing life changing album.🤘
in the white is also a favorite of mine
Have you checked out Rishloo? 🤯
My Twin is a great suggestion.
Also anything from Viva Emptiness (an earlier Katatonia record(
Man you guys gotta give Criminal from the Viva Emptiness album a go!
I appreciate the information. Katatonia is a band that I’ve danced around for several years. I have heard songs by them that I have really liked, but you know how it is with music. I get buried in so many different bands, that I never get back to them. I’m gonna check out that album. This song impressed me, so I hope the album will make a fan out of me. 👊🏼👊🏼
My favorite band, I blast this all the month of July. Amazing song amazing band. Love you guys
Finally! This is the side of rock and metal I was hoping to see you dig into more! I don't mind all the mainstream / classic rock reactions but I hope this song gets you to make more room for exploring lesser known and more modern metal bands. Seeing you discover bands like Opeth and Gojira is what keeps me interested in the channel, and this video felt like I was back in those days. I hope this opens the gateway to you finally checking out bands like Paradise Lost, Anathema, Agalloch, Ulver, Alcest and Cult Of Luna. There aren't many people requesting them now but it will bring interest to your videos the same way the Opeth and Gojira reactions did.
Couldn't agree more with Ulver. Low-key would love a reaction to to the Drone Activity stuff.
Some Icelandic weirdness would be awesome too. Some Sólstafir, some Svartidauði.
I see we share a common interest in metal bands. Totally support the recommendations, however thinking about it... I'm pretty sure Agalloch's long narrative song structures would bore the LiV guys though lol. Cult of Luna too I can imagine them saying "There were a lot of really cool riffs but they could have trimmed the song down some".
Good call!
Great! My Twin must be the next🔥
Awesome band. The album Viva Emptiness is fire all the way through!
Viva Emptiness is the only Katatonia album I have and I agree, absolute fire. Off the top of my head the songs Evidence and Omerta are my favourites. Definitely an album need to revisit.
Criminals is the right song for them to react to! guaranteed stay-list.
This one here. Every song on Viva Emptiness is fire. One of the few life changing albums for me.
You've passed the test and that's so good for you.
Their album "Night Is the New Day" is still my favorite by them. "Forsaker" was such a great song to pop the album off with.
That and Dead End Kings are my favourites
The great thing is that everyone has his own favourite.
Forsaker is one of my favorite tracks ever by Katatonia. Big fan of that album!
One of the few albums where every single song is an absolute banger
I absolutely love this album. I think it's their best. Idle Blood is my favorite song from it.
Holy shit, you guys did Katatonia! I´m totally blown away that you loved one of my all time favourite bands
The special edition of this album have the bonus song "Unfurl" which in my opinion is one of their best tracks, it's VERY different compared to their usual style / genre, it's actually much more a Trip-Hop track than it is rock / metal, but the atmosphere in that song is still very Katatonia -like, they absolutely pull it off 100% - Given your recent discovery / love for Trip-Hop and now you've listened to Katatonia, I'd say "Unfurl" is a must listen!
hell yeah, i've requested this band for years here on youtube, Teargas, Passing Bird, Unfurl, My Twin, In The White, Lacquer, they are just phenomenal
Cannot believe you guys made it to Katatonia, so awesome! You have a long list of amazing tracks to dig into...."Teargas", "Evidence", "The Racing Heart".....it goes on. Keep 'em coming boyz!
The Great Cold Distance is such an all-time album for me, every song on it is top-tier.
Thank you for reacting to this song. My mother died when I was 10 in the month of July. This song means a lot to me. Katatonia is an amazing band. Great reaction guy’s!🤘🏼🤘🏼
This is a band I’ve been meaning to get to. This was 🔥. Great reaction as usual.
Why do I see 0 suggestion for Forsaker in these comments??
These guys would love it I'm sure.
Never heard this band. So far so good!
Finally katatonia! Check out lethean and the racing heart
Never heard them but I am now very much a fan
Check out Night is the New Day, their masterpiece in my opinion.
If you liked July, check out the entire The Great Cold Distance album. Afterwards, check out Night Is the New Day which came out right after.
Katatonia is essentially 2 guys - Jonas Renkse (vocals) and Anders Nystrom (guitar)... who founded the band in the early 90's, initially as a black metal project (Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt contributed vocals to early records) ... Jonas also played drums and bass, while Anders also played bass on some recordings, but they eventually hired more members for Katatonia ... Jonas and Anders also have a death metal band Bloodbath (Jonas on bass, Anders on guitar... current vocalist is Paradise Lost's Nick Holmes).
After recording black metal albums, Katatonia changed up their sound in 1998 for their 3rd album 'Discouraged ones' w/ Jonas Renkse doing lead vocals and transforming their sound towards doom metal & gothic rock... After 2000, Jonas and Anders delivered some masterpieces w/ Katatonia... 'Last fair deal gone down' (2001) is just a dark descent into sonic depression w/ songs like - "Don't tell a soul"... 'Teargas'... 'We must bury you'...
This album from 2006 was Katatonia's 7th album 'The great cold distance'... considered their best record. The single 'My twin' was a standout... along w/ 'July'... 'Leaders'... "Soil's song"... 🤘🤘💀💀
Over the years, Katatonia has changed members frequently... their latest album in 2023 is 'Sky void of stars'... joining Jonas and Anders are... Roger Ojersson (guitar), Niclas Sandin (bass) and Daniel Moilanen (drums).
Other Katatonia songs to check out - 'I break'... 'Dead letters'... 'The longest year'... 'Opaline'... 🔥🔥
Follower and Leaders are probably my favorites by Katatonia. Glad to see you reacting to them
they got Leaders reaction on Patreon.
@@Fifthfloorwankr are they going through Katatonia discography ? Or just a couple of songs reactions ?
Very good reaction to Katatoni indeed, I grew up as a teenager in the late 90s listen8bg to katatonia songs, it brought maturity to me in that period and some elements of melancholy and darkness. Their song(brave) is equally great if you think you rrwct to them again in the future
that whole album is absolute fire from start to finish
Lyrics .
You come clean
Waves collide now
Defenseless numb arms
And no voice of reason
So how come you invited me too
You knew I wanted you
You glide above
So this night belongs to you
I know this isn't through
Are you dead to love
I see the bright lights
It's the month of July
It's violent here
Why have you left me
If only you could stay
And keep me in
It's violent here
Why did you run from me
Heat
Night devour me
Repeat
Repetition
Early 90s I got into Amorphis and that got me into Katatonia, there are a lot of awesome Swedish and Finnish bands out there. Also you guys should get back to Amorphis check out some more of their songs.
So excited!! Highly recommend their song Brave, one of my all time favourite songs and has Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth providing the growls, possibly his best harsh vocals performance ever!
Now here's finally a really interesting choice! To be honest, I stopped watching/listening to you guys for a while because it felt like you weren't exploring so much anymore, at least in the world of Rock. And let me tell you, if you enjoyed this, then you should have listened to my suggestions a loooooooong time ago. I could point you in the direction of music that is truly great, but sadly somewhat overlooked.
Like Katatonia! What a great band. If you liked this, then they have a bunch of other awesome songs. You can't go wrong with any of the following songs.
-My Twin (this feels like their "most well known single" type of song)
-Lethean
-Day And Then The Shade
-Old Heart Falls
The riff on this song bangs so hard. The transitions are really clean and the vocals are smooth. This album as a whole is one of my absolute favs. Night is the new day, soil song, and deadhouse would be my song suggestions.
Katatonia has so many great jams that I almost don't even know what I'd recommend next! Jonas could sing the dictionary and I'd listen.
His voice is so hauntingly beautiful its ridiculous
@@Schrantism You should listen to Long Distance Calling - The Nearing Grave. You can hear Jonas vocals, it is so mesmerizing
@@manwiththecigar2606 I will definitely do that! Thank you for the recommendation
Do more of this band. Super underrated
uNDeRaTEd
Promise of deceit is a must..
I really got into katatonia the last year and The Great Cold Distance became my favorite album from them. For me, Jonas has the most beautiful voice in metal/rock. I hope you guys do more songs from them. My suggestion is Soil's Song from the same album.
You should checkout 10th Anniversary edition of that album. Couple of hidden gems there.
@@futurebreedmachine9302 oh, I listened to this one too. Thanks for the suggestion
One of the greatest bands of our time, you can throw a dart and if it lands on any song from Viva Emptiness to Sky Void of Stars and its not a banger I'll eat a hotdog the long way. That's a bet 🤙
Dudes check out Forsaker! But really there's so many great tracks by these guys, they've been very consistent with their quality over the decades.
Already like, this is a band that is very consistent these days and do not disappoint.
Lots of echos of early Bloodbath in this too...im gonna have to go back and re listen to the library, keep killin the game boys.
This band went through a lot of different sounds over the years so there are songs by them you'll love and songs you might not be that into. Here are some songs that you'd really like: Forsaker, In The White, Lethean, Dead Letters, Residual, The Night Subscriber. A lot of people are requesting My Twin which is their most popular song but it's very straightforward and simple, I'm not sure if it would be good for a reaction video. I would say check that song out in your own time and react to one of these, which have a lot more variety.
YESSSS dude Katatonia rules! They just released a pretty damn good album as well!
This was one of my favorite albums of the early 2000's! Brings back good memories and happy to see a Katatonia reaction!
The new album is unbelievable. Colossal Shade will blow your mind
Thank you for reacting to one of my all time favorite bands. They are criminally underrated.
by far the most underrated band of the past 25-30 years
FAAAAAAAAXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Could you guys please do 'The Noose' by a Perfect Circle or 'Vicarious' by Tool? Big fan of you both !
“Leaders” is my favorite from this album. I think they’d appreciate the drumming on that track. A lot of good songs from Katatonia out there.
Katatonia is great. If you're planning on tackling more from them, Lethean is a fun one.
one of the moat underrated vocals in metal
Yeeeessss! Finally! Katatonia.
From the same album you have My Twin or Soil's Song.
And from other albums, Criminals, Brave, Dead Letters, The Racing Heart, Ghost of the Sun...
So many others. There's a great big rabbit hole.
After all these years, still one of my favorite songs by Katatonia. Perfect drums, perfect everything.
The great cold distance i feel is kind of where i feel they found their sound. I seriously love just about everything by them.
Theyve just continued to evolve and write great music. Their latest album isnt long out and is brilliant 😎
--------- Porcupine Tree -----------
This reaction put a smile on my face.
This album is special to me, I had just moved to a snowy town in Canada for College back in 2006, alone, broke, depressed, and the only thing i had was this Katatonia CD which had just come out, in my car.
That album is all I listened to for a full year, along with 'Damnation' by Opeth, and they both always got the rage out of me and made me feel better.
They are both very dark albums and they were the right feel to go with a snowed in dark depressing winter in a sleepy college town. This album kept me company.
Consternation would've been a much better choice. Best song on the album.
Yeah. My top favourite. July is a really bad ass song though!
ah you finally got around to Katatonia, one of my favorite swedish bands, Discouraged Ones is one of my fav albums by them, react to Saw You Drown and you'll aagree
Journey Through Pressure is a really dope song on the same album. 🤘🏼
DUDES!!! Thank god you guys started checking out Katatonia. The Great Cold Distance is one of the best albums of the 2000's. Check out In the White or Rusted next! Trust me those will blow you away. Keep it up guys!
In my opinion Katatonia is the best band I've ever heard. They've put out absolutely fantastic album after album for years.
Absolutely! Love Katatonia.
I'd argue Paradise Lost, but they're close
My favorite off of this album is Soil’s Song. Think you two would dig the hell out of it.
Recently discovered this one after overlooking it for a while. So good! The guitar in the chorus is so fucking catchy
These guys are consistently solid, anything off this or The Fall of Hearts.
The Fall of Hearts is so solid!!!
Also, that band clip you played at the beginning was cool. I never heard of them but I’ll have to check them out.
Glad I checked this reaction out. Never heard this track...very good song. And thanks for sharing that Mikael Ackerfeldt was part of this. Ackerfeldt is IMO some kind of metal savant.
It was only incredibly early on. They actually were both together in a death metal band called Bloodbath.
Oh shit! A Katatonia song?!?! Yes please, and more.
I know what you mean when you say that the post-2010 era of Rock has not had a whole lot to like. It's been that way for a while. It's been stagnant. Well...for the most part. There's good stuff out there, it's just that the good stuff past that point is mostly bands like Katatonia, which is to say, bands that are great, but under-known in the mainstream sense. There's a bunch of bands like that that I discovered a while ago. They're the ones who are making good Rock style music these days. They're all well known in the underground sense, but aren't _super_ well known mainstream-wise.
The other thing is that the music industry/world is completely backwards and upside-down these days. It turns out that music never being supported monetarily anymore because of streaming and also monopolies like Live Nation's over the live performance side of things _also_ taking away the monetary support of music is ruining everything. Now it feels like once in a blue moon that we get genuinely cool music.
Compare that with the world of gaming, which is supported very well monetarily by fans. I literally can't keep up with all the awesome stuff we constantly get in gaming. It's a shame that no one wants to support music and have a cool-ass collection of the things they enjoy. Live Nation and Ticket Master are a different story. Now even though fans still go to see bands live, they still don't make enough. It's awful.
I’d love to see you review Myrath, and Paradise Lost.
My twin!!!!!! Same album, kinda the “HIT” from the album and a blindingly great emotionally devastating song!!!
Shout out to Orthrys in the intro! My favorite of the up-and-coming bands they've featured so far.
my playlist is doing some real some real parkour from coast contra to Katatonia. Keep it up free thinkers. Would love to see you guys do some "Woods of Ypres" Check out their songs -Death is not an exit, Kiss my Ashes goodbye, or Lightning & Snow. Such a great band cut down to early. RIP David Gold
Leaders is the song I'd recommend off of this album. It's got a strong groove, while being proggy as hell.
I just saw these guys a few days ago on 70,000 Tons of Metal. They, of course, played this song.
Lost in Vegas: I think it is about time for you to consider "Yngwie Malmsteen" (the first three albums, any song is masterpiece level. But if I have to recommend only one song, "Soldier without faith").
Love Katatonia! If you want to stay with this album, I suggest Soil’s Song. I would also suggest Forsaker from Night is the New Day and Criminals from Viva Emptiness. I would also recommend checking the band Pain of Salvation. Another great Swedish band.
finally Katatonia! Such an underrated band in my opinion, you guys have to check out "Evidence" and "My Twin" 100%! I'm sure you will enjoy these
Great choice in Katatonia. Would love to see you react to their song, Leaders.
Love this band! Would love to see you guys react to Lethean too 🤘 maybe even do My Twin or Evidence? Lol
You could check something from their New album that came out this year. They are still amazing.
Great song, great reaction!
Would recommend reviewing Gojira - Pray Live at Red Rocks!
So you finally reached Katatonia. Soon you will be getting to Anathema, Paradise Lost, and My Dying Bride.
Good job guys 👍
Paradise Lost - Forever Failure 🎉🎉
Katatonia has some FIRE tracks, all up to their latest work
Great. You finally got to Katatonia. One of the first bands I found after digging deeper than Tool, Opeth,
thank you guys for i discovered this song with you.and i think this is masterpiece, cant stop listening to it
Do yourself a favor and listen to Night is the new day, in my opinion Katatonia's best album!
first time hearing this ,that was soo good.
You got to checkout their album "The Great Cold Distance (10th anniversary edition)". You will definitely like almost all the songs on that album!
@@futurebreedmachine9302 will do,thx
I rarely comment on YT vids but want to say this has quickly become one of my fave music reaction channels. It's one thing to broaden horizons, but another to trawl the subgenre depths as deep as y'all do, and while always bringing honest, totally tuned-in reactions to the table. In that spirit, I recommend *Agalloch*. I'd dive in headfirst - "The Melancholy Spirit", "Falling Snow", "Hallways of Enchanted Ebony" or for a surprisingly thorough short song, "She Painted Fire Across the Skyline part 2".
I’ve been sleeping on this band. Wow!
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼discouraged ones great album as well !
I like also " night is the new day" album, from start to finish, great songs for reaction videos
You guys are reviewing some of the best metal bands, it's so fun to watch this channel when you check these types of songs out. Wonder if you all would like in flames. They are the swedish metal greats. (Clayman album)
Katatonia? Anathema can’t be far behind.
So glad you finally came around to Katatonia! Great band! Great song! I'd be interested to see what song you do next from them. They can do no wrong but I'd love to see you review: Consternation, My Twin, City Glaciers, Hypnone, The Parting. Great stuff!
I think you guys would like Consternation off of this album the most. But they have such a solid discography, its hard to go wrong with anything. Easily top 3 bands for me - A couple of other bands I think you should dig into are VOLA and He is Legend.
Always dope hearing somebody else jam out to a song you dig too. Love Katatonia, especially these earlier albums.
Good morning sunshine, welcome to the world of Katatonia. They just happen to be one of the most diverse, emotional bands out there right now. Might be an unpopular choice, but check out the song Old Heart Falls. That hits me in the gut every time I hear it. Also, My Twin is a great one, or we must bury you. it's just hard to go wrong with this band. Enjoy the Rabbit hole, and keep up the great work.
My Twin is absolutely essential.
You guys needs to check out their new album A Sky Void Of Stars, the whole record is 🔥
I feel pretty confident when I say that Jonas, the vocalist, is one of the best metal vocalists of all time
The guitarist has a band called Diabolical Masquerade. Dreadventurouz would most likely be your jam but the whole Nightwork album owns.
cheers
"The Night Subscriber" from Katatonia is an awesome mix of what you said you might like in this type of music!
That's a really good song doesn't get enough recognition
Great reaction Guys to a fantastic band. Check out "Colossal Shade" from their new album. Fire!! Greetings from Sweden
That's the power of music/art. Your senses get overwhelmed and you react by laughing hysterically, crying, whatever. Been enjoying your genuine reactions for years, keep exploring.
Never heard of them before but I’m glad I decided to watch this video. I’ll have to check out more of their music.
Thanks LIV for always putting me onto new good music!
Katatonia , FINALLYYYYYY ❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Niceeeeeee, Katatonia is one of my favorite bands, happily surprised to see you guys react to it
