Thank you for your positivity, your thoughts on brightening someone’s day with just a compliment or kind words, and for speaking in Icelandic. It sounds so magical and soothing when you speak it!
This sort of channel is what I love about the internet. Getting to learn about people and cultures from around the planet that we just don't get to learn much about in school here in America. I hope that came out the right way. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to make these videos!

It is fun to see how equally Norwegian and Icelandic are in many ways. Because if I slow down the video, I can actually understand quite a lot, even without subtitles that help me :) The languages are different at the same time, with Icelandic having many different words and many consonants compared to Norwegian. I did not know that the languages are so similar
I loved this! I appreciate the time and effort it takes you to do this. Your English is excellent and it is good to hear you speak freely in your own language because one's native language allows so much more freedom to relax and speak more easily from the heart. Don't allow judgmental and hateful people upset you online. You offer too much goodness to want to leave this platform! Best wishes from the mountains of Western North Carolina, USA.
It’s great that you, didn’t and still don’t allow your negative experiences to embitter you and cause you to release more negative aura into this world that has soooooooooo much of it already. Thank you very much for your positivity. Keep it up and don’t let ANYONE make you do otherwise(do not follow the crowd to do evil). Have a great day!
Thank you A LOT for this video!! I finally have an opportunity to listen to real icelandic spoken! It's such a nice language though Please do more of this!
I totally agree with the positivity/giving compliments point. On that note, I really enjoy your videos and I especially liked this one where you are speaking Icelandic. Big hello from Croatia! 🇭🇷
Such a beautiful language and a nice person too. The things you said about others and that you make some compliments to people so they feel better is heartwarming. I think exactly the same about those people who only see themselfs and don't care about others. Hearing you speaking ìslensku helps me learning the language. I have to say that it is very hard for me to understand a word as beginner because you talk so fast but it is getting better. Btw. congrats to your country's contribution to Eurovision. Daði Freyr (and also Hatari) made me curious about your beautiful country and your old language. Please make more content in Icelandic.
Woah. I've heard Icelandic being spoken before and I liked it. But now I hear it from you and there's something about your use of it that makes it sound other-worldly beautiful. Now I'm not sure if I'd learn Norwegian or Icelandic first.
So fascinating to listen to you speaking Icelandic. I'm Norwegian and speak a dialect known as "Helgelandsmål". Since it is said to have kept a lot of the old Norse language intact, I went on Google translate to check for similarities with Icelandic. There are quite a lot of similarities. It sounds silly, but I get a little emotional listening to Icelandic people speak. The reason is that a lot of the Icelandic population are descended from Norwegians who emigrated a thousand years ago. We've been separated ever since, but to hear that our languages carries with them the connection of our people is special to me.
That was such a good video. I love the rhythms and the sounds of your beautiful language. Good job on the positive action too, sending good vibes through Instagram and also blocking the weirdos! You just make me want to come back again. Thank you.
Thanks for a nice video! I learned some Icelandic at Uni, but it was a long time ago, so I have watched this video several times to improve my language skills.
Yeah I thought of the elves when she started talking, it's awesome!!! Makes me want to conlang and teach my kids (if I ever have any), a secret language only we would share and make cookies and be like Keebler elves. Idk, maybe I need a head doctor, but sounds like a plan.
Thank you for this video. I am learning Icelandic and it helps to hear people speak it. Which is surprisingly hard to find online! Just people speaking the language and not instructing.
FInally got to watch this video! I looove the sound of icelandic and I am proud that I even understood some fragments after studying icelandic for 1,5 years. It's going slowly but it's still progress. For me understanding people speaking is the hardest but I am so happy that I keep understanding a little bit more and more all the time :D If you ever have the time to do another video only in icelandic it will be well appreciated :) Takk fyrir myndbandið Hrafna!
Hi, Hrafna wanted to tell you that I really liked your video, you hear very tender speaking in your mother tongue! I loved it so much! I hope you make more videos of this kind! Greetings from Venezuela.
Can you make a video for tell us favourite books of Icelandic culture, Scandinavian Viking mythology etc? How awesome sounds Icelandic! I wish to learn it but so difficult from a Spanish guy haha. Thanks Hrafna ^^
As a person who is learning (trying to) Icelandic I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for going through the trouble of subtitling it. Also, as a fellow and former English Literature student, your thesis sounds super interesting. Good luck with it!
Question: Can you read and understand the Poetic Eddas and other Icelandic Sagas in Old Norse... and can you understand Norwegians, Danes and Swedes when they speak?? Awesome Video!!

As for asking people's weight. I'm a male so I may have a different perspective, but I ask to have a reference point for my goal body. Whenever I see someone around my height and has a great body, I'm always curious how much muscle I need to put on etc. Maybe since people look up to you so much, they think the same way where you're their goal and they want to have a quantitative number to reach.
I loved the question about weight. Before CrossFit, weight is used as a definition or a judgement and usually, the hope is it goes down After CrossFit, weight is something that you lift and usually, it goes up..
Great video and it is so cool it is in Icelandic, beautiful language :) Good luck with your thesis, it will be succesful for sure! I finished my thesis last year and I know how much time it would take haha so THANKS A LOT for the effort of adding subtitles :) Takk fyrir :D
It's nice to finally know of someone who gets as annoyed at people not paying attention as I do lol. & you're spot on about the book thing, I can't always go do something fun or go see a beautiful place but I can I read about doing those things & it's like I'm there 💓
Greetings from China. Actually I hardly leave comments on RUclips but I'd like to say something. I've been watching Hrafna's video for several months and they truely widen my understanding of Iceland and Icelandic. Maybe I'm a little bit sensitive but you looked unhappy in this video. All I want to say is never mind people or bad message which are bothering you. I'm always dream of travelling to Iceland and I knew that nordic citizens are kind and respectful to people around. Always be happy and peaceful! :)
One further note, Hrafna. You represent to me the whole of Iceland, at least as a representative of the younger generation of Icelanders. And, you are a worthy representative of your fellow Icelanders. I follow one other Icelandic person - on Instagram only - but she writes only in Icelandic, and she sticks to personal items about herself, her child, and her relationship with the father of her baby, so this woman does not teach me much at all about Iceland. Maybe you know who she is; her name is Birta Osk Hjaltadottir. I want to thank you for sharing so many things about Iceland. To me, it is a pure joy to view your videos. - Dr Dave.
I really like watching your vids and even more so when you speak Icelandic. Ive been trying to learn Russian just for the sake of something im interested in learning, but listening to you speak im not even sure i can move my mouth in the proper way so i can pronounce a single thing you say. haha. but its very awesome to hear Icelandic.
Kvikkmynd á islendska á RUclips mykkje gaman! I never really studied Icelandic but read Salka Valka in Icelandic first and then in Swedish, ten days on the islands as support too made me understand about 40% of what you said. My own language is Swedish. I´ll watch the film once more with text later.
Great video, hope your thesis went well! Recently finished mine and my degree also :) While I can't answer what immigration to Iceland is like either, I listen occasionally to this podcast called "All Things Iceland" by Jewells, who moved to Iceland about 5 years ago now. Her podcast is nice and she interviews Icelanders and non-Icelanders from all walks of life
Icelandic is such a beatiful language, but I can't identify where a word ends and other starts! And as someone in the comments said, I'm "searching in the three drawers at the same time", trying to associate the sound in icelandic while reading the captions in english and thinking about it in spanish. Great video, Hrafna!
Islensku is beautiful, thanks for doing this! What is your perception of the situation of Islandic at the moment? I'm hearing that a lot of young people are using English much more now?
That was a very good. Glad I had subtitles. Is the language hard to learn? Was it easier for you to learn English as opposed to any other language you speak? You are a very intelligent and well-spoken young lady. Glad to have found you on RUclips.
Why would someone want to watch you speak Icelandic for 13 minutes, you ask? I can only speak for myself, but I love learning (about) different languages I don't speak (yet), and Icelandic really sounds... hm elvish? And I really like listening to you speaking Icelandic. Furthermore, as you kindly provided subtitles, I could learn a lot about you as a person, and I enjoyed that a lot. You seem like a very gentle, positive, likeable person. Please do more videos like this!
Thank you so much for making more videos in Icelandic ! I've been trying to learn Icelandic for a few months and I find that listening to the language being spoken is the best way to memorise words and get used to the accent. The subtitles in English help a lot, but I think subtitles in Icelandic as well would be even better for people who really want to learn the language. (Though adding more subtitles would be very time consuming for you, I assume. ^^" ) Anyway, thank you for your videos, I hope you have a great day, and good luck finishing that thesis! ^^
Your voice speaking Icelandic sounds a little bit different, but it's still good, what a beautiful language haha I like it a lot. Great video, congrats 👏 Jesus continue blessing u 😊🙌
I love the Icelandic language (I am self-studying Icelandic at the moment) and really like it when you can make this kind of video in Icelandic only. I would greatly appreciate it if you can also make a subtitle in Icelandic so I can follow the words you are speaking. Thanks!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video in Icelandic! I adore you. I just love when you can do what you love, and be your most natural self. I love the authenticity that comes with it. ❤️ Please keep making content you enjoy, we will be here for your content always!
can you please make some more videos of you just speaking in icelandic with subtitles, im starting to learn icelandic from digging into my ancestry. and it is really cool hearing the language being spoken.
Your ancestors made a lot of sacrifices and hard decisions to get your family to where they are. It’s not luck. You still face challenges and rise above them. Don’t feel guilty or let others make you feel privileged. It is good to be kind and humble though. Just my opinion from what I am hearing.
My question, Are Icelanders more culturally aligned with the ancient Norse people as opposed to the Norwegians, Swedes and Danes? As in your laws, daily lives, names, culture in general?
Mér finnst æðislegt að horfa á vidjóin þín því þú ert eini íslenski youtuberinn sem ég horfi á sama þótt þú talir ensku mest allan tímann fynnst mér ég tengja svo mikið þannig bara takk fyrir að deila :)
Ég held að fólkið sem skila ekki Íslensku nota bara google translate til að skilja hvað við skrifum (fyrirgefið ef ég skrifaði eithvað rángt ég er ekki góð í að skrifa)
Wow very interesting, also, I remember that BBC has some "modern" representations of Canterbury tales, in case you are interested and maybe it could be of help to your thesis, I remember I added some weird youtube videos to mine haha. Thanks for the vids.
My hands are full with Swedish, but I love hearing Icelandic being spoken. I have an Icelandic flag in my collection. A year ago I made a video showing it.
I have immigrated to Iceland since january, the hardest part was leaving my dog at home (he is my everything) but couldn’t let him stay in quarentine for a month so he is now with my parents. Once you are in iceland ask your colleagues to talk in icelandic and not in english except when you don’t understand. This will help you learn the language faster! For all the weather questions: always be prepared that’s my advice. It might look like it is ok now but in one hour the wearher can change drasticly. Food can be expensive if you want to eat like you would normally in your own country. Eat atlot of icelandic prodused food (mainly sheep and cow) and it will be a lot cheaper because iceland is expansive. If you want to know about the aurora borealis download the app called: My aurora forcast & alert. It will send notification if it is visable at your location and you can track whenever it will come, super handy app. And just enjoy thats my number 1 tip since it can be very hard. For me i moved to a farm so i cant really go anywhere nesrest town is like 30 min drive away but i don’t have a car here yet. Hou will get homesick but you have to get over it.
Because i am not gonna lie it is hard. I have cried many times because i don’t have any friends here and i don’t meet many people here since i am on a farm and sometimes i wish i was back home but i just need to remember why I came here in the first place
I just started learning Icelandic today. Ive only started with the alphabet and phonemics. But...I have to have one hour of exposure even if I dont understand. And I chose your videos to just listen to for an hour a day!

The Islandic language is so beautiful and calming! I wish I knew Islandic, it sounds like a waterfall. Please make more videos in Icelandic! Greetings from Poland!
I can't deny that I reaaaally love your voice when you speak íslenska
So much fun being norwegian and listening to you speak Icelandic and hearing how so many of the worlds are the same💗 You are beautiful!
Thank you for your positivity, your thoughts on brightening someone’s day with just a compliment or kind words, and for speaking in Icelandic. It sounds so magical and soothing when you speak it!
It was so relaxing listening to you speaking Icelandic👍😊🇮🇸
Listening to Icelandic is like listening to ASMR lmao love from Greece 🇬🇷

This sort of channel is what I love about the internet. Getting to learn about people and cultures from around the planet that we just don't get to learn much about in school here in America. I hope that came out the right way. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to make these videos!
i loved this video so much! And hearing you speaking icelandic honestly feels so relaxing because of your smooth voice haha
I just wanted to say, you are really great and I enjoy ur content. Even though I found you because I was looking for Icelandic related topics I definitely stayed because of you and your personality and not just because of Iceland... And you seem like really positive, kind, honest, down to earth and trustworthy person. Keep up being awesome I wish you all the best. Cheers from Poland. 🙃
P.s. Sheesh I almost never comment on anything and here I go writing an essay 😅
Would you please do more videos in Icelandic? I really enjoy them.
It's such a nice language though
Please do more of this!
The language is fascinating! I like all the tinges and accents. It's hard to catch phrases similar to English
Im an american learning icelandic, i love the way icelandic sounds
Listening to you speak Icelandic helps me with learning the language like the sounds and pronunciation. Thank you so much😁
I totally agree with the positivity/giving compliments point. On that note, I really enjoy your videos and I especially liked this one where you are speaking Icelandic. Big hello from Croatia! 🇭🇷
Do you listen to "Of Monsters and Men?" I love that band so much
Yes! Love them
I love them too 😍😍
@@Hrafna I love them too!! What's your favourite song by them??
Such a beautiful language and a nice person too. The things you said about others and that you make some compliments to people so they feel better is heartwarming.
I think exactly the same about those people who only see themselfs and don't care about others.
Hearing you speaking ìslensku helps me learning the language. I have to say that it is very hard for me to understand a word as beginner because you talk so fast but it is getting better.
Btw. congrats to your country's contribution to Eurovision. Daði Freyr (and also Hatari) made me curious about your beautiful country and your old language. Please make more content in Icelandic.
I've missed you Hrafna! Love you the most💘
When Elves start to vlog :-p
Hélio Solar omg 💀
I don't get it
SoLiTaRyBoNe If you’ve ever heard an elf talking in any movie they have this mystical archaic way of talking so basically he’s calling her an elf
@@crownedone200 ^^ Well it's not a secret that Tolkien was inspired by old Norwegian, Scandinavian, Finnish, Icelandic etc dialects ;-)
Yeah I thought of the elves when she started talking, it's awesome!!! Makes me want to conlang and teach my kids (if I ever have any), a secret language only we would share and make cookies and be like Keebler elves. Idk, maybe I need a head doctor, but sounds like a plan.
I love watching these! You have a delightful personality and I love hearing spoken Icelandic. Please keep making more videos!
I understood when she said Instagram throw me a parade #1
Thank you for this video. I am learning Icelandic and it helps to hear people speak it. Which is surprisingly hard to find online! Just people speaking the language and not instructing.
Listening to this doing university work not reading subtitles half the time just loving the sound of Icelandic
FInally got to watch this video!
I looove the sound of icelandic and I am proud that I even understood some fragments after studying icelandic for 1,5 years. It's going slowly but it's still progress. For me understanding people speaking is the hardest but I am so happy that I keep understanding a little bit more and more all the time :D
If you ever have the time to do another video only in icelandic it will be well appreciated :)
Takk fyrir myndbandið Hrafna!
Sounds really nice 😊 I'm from Finland and I understand few words similar to Swedish!
It's so relaxing hearing you speaking icelandic, more videos live this please!
You mean the Old Germanic/Nordic Religion
@@stoneghost2936 yes!
Your language is gorgeous ♥️😽
Thank you for your video Hrafna , always such a pleasure to watch. Big hug from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
As a person who is learning (trying to) Icelandic I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for going through the trouble of subtitling it.
Also, as a fellow and former English Literature student, your thesis sounds super interesting. Good luck with it!
Question:
Can you read and understand the Poetic Eddas and other Icelandic Sagas in Old Norse...
and can you understand Norwegians, Danes and Swedes when they speak??
Awesome Video!!
Your language sounds like music to my ears
Fiona GHD I'd like to translate your first sentence because I can understand that" I am with B2 professional for Icelandic in June and ......." Don't get the rest🙏🏼
til ykkar að læra íslensku: vel gert og haldið áfram! hélt ég var að lesa komment frá íslendingum...og endilega reyna að finna einhvern að tala við, .því það gleymist fljótt ef maður talar ekki tungumálið , ég er íslenskur, uppalinn á íslandi, skil og tala íslensku 100%. en hef ekki búið a Íslandi í yfir 12 ár, og eitt sem ég finn er að tala mitt eigið tungumál, stundum þarf ég að hugsa...maður blandar saman ýmsu frá þvi tungumáli sem maður notar dagsdaglega...hérna, sem komment á youtube er það ekkert mál, ég veit hvað ég vill segja og hef tíma að setja það niður á blað...ja eða skjá ;) en ef ég er á íslandi, útí búð eða eitthvað..svona spontant koma orðin kannski ekki rétt út.
Hrafna: þú ert góður fulltrúi Íslands á you tube, gaman að heyra þig tala íslensku!
Before CrossFit, weight is used as a definition or a judgement and usually, the hope is it goes down
After CrossFit, weight is something that you lift and usually, it goes up..
Great video and it is so cool it is in Icelandic, beautiful language :) Good luck with your thesis, it will be succesful for sure! I finished my thesis last year and I know how much time it would take haha so THANKS A LOT for the effort of adding subtitles :)
Takk fyrir :D
It's nice to finally know of someone who gets as annoyed at people not paying attention as I do lol. & you're spot on about the book thing, I can't always go do something fun or go see a beautiful place but I can I read about doing those things & it's like I'm there 💓
Your Beautiful, been to Europe but never Iceland. It quickly was add to my list after watching some of your Iceland videos.
I love hearing you speak in your language, so relaxing
I love it when you speak Icelandic. It's such beautiful language. SAY MORE!
You thesis seems so interesting! Best of luck with it!
Do you have a favorite exercise? Like bench press, flies, squats, dead lift?
I'm a Dane living in England, and I find Icelandic such a wonderful and musical language. Is Hrafna a nickname?
I think its a shortened version of her name, Hrafnhildur (sorry if i didnt spell it right)
ᚺᛃᚨᛚᛗᚨᚱ ᚾᛁᚴᛟᛚᚨᛋᛋᛟᚾ Thank you, and I like your runic font!
I don't speak Icelandic but to listen to lt bing spoken fluently was rather wonderful, thank you !
Great video, hope your thesis went well! Recently finished mine and my degree also :) While I can't answer what immigration to Iceland is like either, I listen occasionally to this podcast called "All Things Iceland" by Jewells, who moved to Iceland about 5 years ago now. Her podcast is nice and she interviews Icelanders and non-Icelanders from all walks of life
I'm in Iceland now, we're horseback riding tomorrow 😊 I've enjoyed the videos you made for getting ready to travel here! 💜
Icelandic is such a beatiful language, but I can't identify where a word ends and other starts! And as someone in the comments said, I'm "searching in the three drawers at the same time", trying to associate the sound in icelandic while reading the captions in english and thinking about it in spanish. Great video, Hrafna!
Congrats on all the wonderful things that happened for you in 2019, and your thesis. Your vids are the best, and keep getting better!!
Icelandic is a very beautiful language. It's very soft, even comforting.
Anyway, thank you for your videos, I hope you have a great day, and good luck finishing that thesis! ^^
I'm going to start to learn icelandic this summer, and when I have a decent level (in three or four years I hope) I'll come back here and practice.
Good luck, bro i was studying iceland but i gave up lol
Your voice speaking Icelandic sounds a little bit different, but it's still good, what a beautiful language haha I like it a lot. Great video, congrats 👏 Jesus continue blessing u 😊🙌
It's true her voice does sound different when she speaks Icelandic! I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices. 🙂
I love the Icelandic language (I am self-studying Icelandic at the moment) and really like it when you can make this kind of video in Icelandic only. I would greatly appreciate it if you can also make a subtitle in Icelandic so I can follow the words you are speaking. Thanks!
I decided to learn Icelandic 2 years ago and it’s such a fun and interesting experience
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video in Icelandic! I adore you. I just love when you can do what you love, and be your most natural self. I love the authenticity that comes with it. ❤️ Please keep making content you enjoy, we will be here for your content always!
This is the first time I see someone who's first name is Irish and family name is Icelandic
i LOVE this video and how honest you always are, could you please do another one only in Icelandic please please please ?💜
can you please make some more videos of you just speaking in icelandic with subtitles, im starting to learn icelandic from digging into my ancestry. and it is really cool hearing the language being spoken.
Takk æðislega fyrir❤️
Ég held að fólkið sem skila ekki Íslensku nota bara google translate til að skilja hvað við skrifum (fyrirgefið ef ég skrifaði eithvað rángt ég er ekki góð í að skrifa)
Sure 🤣 i was going to say the same 😆 i wish i was Icelandic 😅❤️
Wow very interesting, also, I remember that BBC has some "modern" representations of Canterbury tales, in case you are interested and maybe it could be of help to your thesis, I remember I added some weird youtube videos to mine haha. Thanks for the vids.
Such a beautiful language. What’s the most trusted method to learn Icelandic?
Just hope that duolingo does an Icelandic course soon
Duolingo doesn't have Icelandic, try Drops
I don't understand what you talk about.. but Listening to you in Icelandic, is really soothing.. i fell asleep for a brief moment..
Hrafna, respect from Georgia ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for the subtitles!!
I always comment before i watch couse i know its gonna be awesome!!
I understood the word 'video', 'market', and 'okay' in Icelandic 😊
I just started learning Icelandic today. Ive only started with the alphabet and phonemics. But...I have to have one hour of exposure even if I dont understand. And I chose your videos to just listen to for an hour a day!
How's it going?
As always. Love your video. and wanna speak Icelandic so bad. But I only know the basics and it’s so hard to learn. But I’m trying ❤️
I wish you would do more videos in Icelandic , it's such a beautiful language and I could listen to you speak it aal day
I'm half Faroese half Spanish, my first language is Spanish and I also speak Faroese and English with my relatives whenever I'm in Faroe Islands. Hearing Icelandic is sound so similar to Faroese even if I don't use subtitles I still can understand it.
Röddin þín er rosa mjúk og falleg :)! Haltu áfram að vera frábær Hrafna !!❤
love hearing you speak Icelandic 🇮🇸
