- Crochet Toodie The Crochet Toodie is the concept of building a hood onto a cowl or turtleneck. Easy to do for any cowls or turtlenecks.
I am totally surprised at how warm this is to wear. This can be worn in different ways which makes it very versatile.

What a clever concept, Mikey!! Temps are dropping here in NC, it was 25°F this morning! I am putting this on my to-do list!! Thank you for this great pattern!! ♡♡♡
Z
Well Mikey, I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself with my excitement. I completed the cowl, I've done the round of sc's and now I'm onto what to me is going to be the most difficult stitch I've ever done. Had it not been for your video tutorial, I don't think I would have ever understood the instructions for the x stitch. I watched you do it several times before doing it while watching you do it. The dc that you go behind the other one with is truly out of my comfort zone, but I'm hoping that once I've made the first round, it might get easier. I've already done something I didn't think I could do, and I'm not going to quit with it only half finished. I messaged my sister who crochets to see if she was familiar with the horizontal bar or camel stitch and she had no idea what I was talking about. I can't wait for Christmas to show her what it is and how far I've come. I'll bring the pictures you've provided so she knows the entire project. I have some yarn that is a little bulkier and I'm thinking about trying it after I recover from this one!! Thanks for all the cool designs and the help you give!! Kathy
@@TheCrochetCrowd MIKEY!!!!! I MADE IT!!!!!! I finished it last night and I'm so happy with how it turned out. I can't wait to show my sisters on Christmas. When I asked my sister who has crocheted a lot over the years about the horizontal bar, she had no clue what I was talking about. I was so frustrated at just getting my first round, but by the 3rd or 4th round, I could see it was really working. Then when it came time for the hoodie, that brought a whole new challenge. I didn't even bother asking my sister about that. I just kept watching over and over where you demonstrated things. The hood got wider just like it was supposed to and when I put it on last night, my husband thought it was awesome. Thank you so much for your tutorial and the written pattern as well. I hope you have a very merry Christmas, Kathy
This looks great as a solid too! My daughter calls it her Ninja hood, lol!
haha... It kinda is ninja-like eh!
I need to make this for my husband. Thank you Michael for all you & Daniel do for us!
Our pleasure!
Oh my goodness, this is exactly what I was looking for!! I was so excited to see that you made this tutorial!! Thank you so much!!!!!
You are so welcome!
I really like this! This would have come in handy during our Texas “snowmageddon” we had last year.
What does that mean? haha I can just imagine.
@@TheCrochetCrowd February 2021 Central Texas got 4 inches of snow, we NEVER get snow here and our state was not equipped to handle such an “event”. We were out power and water for over a week, us Texans refer to this snow event as “snowpocolypse. Snowmageddon, Snovid” many pet names for the historic snow.
Laura, I live in Iowa. How much snow did you have for your snowmageddon? Our kids live in Oklahoma, and a quarter of an inch brings things to a screeching halt for them. BTW, I love the term you came up with, it's perfect.
@@survivrs We got 4 inches, and we don’t ever get snow just “dustings”. It was CRAZY for us southern folks.
@@MsIniquity Thanks for being sweet Laura, I was poking a little fun, and you gave it to me. I hope you have no snowmageddon this year!! We've been lucky on 2 separate years where we've been in Oklahoma when the only snow we got for the year happened while we were in Oklahoma, and when we got home it had melted. A couple of crazy winters. Take care! Kathy
I just learned to crochet a month ago I watched a lot of beginner tutorials they are good but your the only one I can follow without being frustrated thank you so much .

Call it anything your heart's desire. :) haha
Thankyou!!!! I suffer with a jaw condition that flares up and is very painful for sometimes weeks after being exposed to direct cold. I have been looking for something to keep my jaw and face warm. This just might fit the bill. Thanks again.
Youre welcome. I’m hope that helps.
i definitely WILL BE making this soon. Got a couple WIP's to finish first. i've been wanting one of these forever and have been dreaming and studying how to make me one.. Thanks for doing the brain work for me.. Mikey. You're such a zinger haha.

Awesome.
Hi 👋🏾 loooove your channel
Se agradece infinitamente que esté traducido en español 🙏🏽 saludos desde México🇲🇽
Our pleasure.
Oh how I wish I liked wearing hoods. This is so cute. However, I don’t like my side vision cut off. Love your new zingers, btw. My favorite way to cook too. 😉💙🧶
Yeah... I think for certain applications I agree with having side vision being obstructed.
Where was this near 7 years ago when we had -45 degree temps and 15+ feet of snow dumped on us in 4 blizzards in less than 10 days.
wow... weather is really interesting on how it can swing.
I love it. Is there a way to make it so the front buttons closed... so it doesn't hv to be pull over head. Very interested!!!!
I am sure you could... I haven't done the research and development of that style but I am sure it's possible.
Have you done same concept with #6 yarn? I have tons so thinking how to convert.😊
Hey Mikey, can you do this in Tunisian crochet and make a tutorial for it? That would be really cool 😎
I’m sorry. I’m not that great at Tunisian.
Love this pattern. It worked up quickly and it was something I never would have attempted without your video. Quick Question, do you turn it outside right to stitch the hoodie together? It looks like you did in your sample in the video but it doesn’t state whether to do so in pattern. Thank you!
You attach to the cowl to begin so the cowl is inside out. So you are technically looking at the RS of the hood from that point. When the cowl is flipped up inside, then the RS of the cowl will show out from the front of the hood.
I could have used one this morning out deer hunting. Wind was brutal.
In orange
oh man! That time of year!
I love this! I saw on pinterest that there is one but not pointed. Is there a tutorial on that one? I plan on making both.
This is the only one I designed.
Wrong Side Facing= WSF is the term abbreviated, to make the directions clear of how to continue. Also Right Side, and RSF. If this helps :)
Great tip. I've never heard of that abbreviation. I will check with Yarnspirations.com design team to see if that's a thing that is standard.
@@TheCrochetCrowd RSF and WSF, RS, and WS are used in sewing. Not sure if they are dictionary standard, but it is a dressmaker/tailor phrase. If this helps?
@@adamarlem9863 excellent. I’ll inquire. 😊
If I wanted to make the hood much deeper than what the pattern calls for, would I just do an increase for every SC for the Row 3 repeat? I want to make this for my husband, but he likes very deep set hoods.
🙂🙂
Did you ever make a video of Nancy's crowhoodie with the rounded back?
Mikey, Could you do a pattern and video to make this knitting loom in bulky yarn
Actually Kristen at Goodknit Kisses is a looming expert. She may be interested in the challenge of that. I'm unsure how to execute that idea on a loom.
🎄🎄
YES!! I want this 😂. Unfortunately I pulled my trapezious muscle and in turn that caused tendonitis in my right elbow.😞 It better heal fast or I'll try being a lefty 😂. One day without crochet STINKS.
Oh that's horrible. I hope for a speedy recovery for you.
👏👏
Thanks.
I'm not sure if I'm to sc across the hood from the outside or inside of the hood. Looks like you did it with RS facing out; is this correct? Thank you
Mikey, I don't know if I love you or hate you. I really want to make this project but I worry that it's over my head. I've printed out the pattern, it's the only way to keep up without going crazy. I think for my sanity's sake I'll wait for January. I hope you have some happy holidays!! From Iowa (center of the U.S.)
Breathe... Breathe! One stitch at a time.
@@TheCrochetCrowd Hahaha!!! Thanks, that does help! I saw some guy do one of these on youtube before finding yours and tried to write the directions as he gave them. I have my notes, but they won't do. I'm happy to see yours, happier to see the written version I could print out. I'll get around to it. I've been crocheting baby beanies for over 2 years now and haven't been able to get them to our children's hospital yet due to COVID restrictions.
Providing a tutorial without written back up is a nightmare as the complaints come in fast and furious.
@@TheCrochetCrowd I can believe that!!! I absolutely love this project. While there are some fancy stitches I will possibly have difficulty with, my way of dealing with those is to put the project away and get out some booze. Try again the next day. Fortunately I don't have many stitches I can't do, I just haven't done them in a long time. I love the colors you've used in this.
So love this two questions…
A. Where did you find the furry pompon?
B. How come you closed this hoodie with a sc and not a ss?
I bought them at Michaels. If you prefer to close with a sl st, by all means, do that. :) You can decide what you prefer the most. The patterns are just suggestions. It's what I wanted for my version.
This definitely is going on my to do list. It is going to be frigid some mornings.
Thank you so much.
I made my 70 chains, and the first round of hdc. I attempted the next round using the horizontal bar but felt I was flying blind, so I tore it all out and I'm starting over. I've watched other methods on the horizontal bar, and I keep hoping to "get it". I don't give up easily, so hopefully the next note I leave you will be more positive.
You can do it. 😊
@@TheCrochetCrowd Thank you, I love you and your enthusiasm!!!! I'm just staring at my 70 chains right now, arguing with myself if I should keep trying tonight or save it for tomorrow. I think tomorrow will win, but I am stubborn.
@@TheCrochetCrowd I lost count of how many times I tore out what I had started all because after 2 rounds it looked nothing like what you had. I also checked out videos on the camel stitch because of how similar they are, and I'm thrilled to tell you that because of my stubbornness and YOUR encouragement, I didn't give up. I'm in the middle of my 6th round on the cowl. It's not perfect, but neither am I, I just want to make this so badly to prove to myself that I can do something more difficult than a triple crochet or a granny square. Thank you! I will probably be back after the cowl because I will more than likely get frustrated by new stitches. We'll see!!
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a joke 🤭
Me: clicks on video thinking it’s going to be a comedy skit.
Also me: 🤭...backs away slowly.
Haha... are you a comedy writer... you have a way with words.
Question. I just have this thing about SC to join. Like my brain says it doesn't look right when I do it. So what are your thoughts on whip stitching or sewing the top together? Other people's experiences have value. So I wanted to know in advance if it is too weak for the hood, or maybe it's visibly different?
I won't be weak if you decide that. I was just lazy and wanted to finish it without sewing.
I have copied and posted the link for this so many times of FB!
Thank you.
WOW Mikey I love it ❤️ but I don’t know how to crochet 😔 would you happen to have it in a knit pattern? I know your site is Crochet Crowd 🙂
I'm sorry. I am not a strong knitter and haven't ever developed a knitting pattern other than loom knitting.
Mikey has great tutorials on how to crochet, I have learnt so much, and I only started 3yrs ago, now making all kinds of thing , give it to you'll not regret it a try I'm sure 😀🤗
I'm curious...can the hood also be used on the Modern Granny Winter Poncho? I love the idea of being able to add a hood to my ponchos and since the pattern has the turtleneck incorporated in it, would it be possible to also add the hood? On a side note: wanted to say thank you for this pattern and for the tutorial go along with. For your time, energy, and for everything you do in general! You are appreciated more than you could possibly know!!
Yes, you can apply the hood to mostly anything. The stitch counts in the first row will be the key factor.
Thank you for your trust to follow our tutorials.
@@TheCrochetCrowd Thank you so very much!! I'll definitely be using this technique on several projects that I've been wanting to add a hood to. *happy dancing* You're awesome!!
I bought Caron Colorama O'Go. Will that work? One is 228 yards.
I used two ogos of red heart super saver.
What yarn color did you use I love it!?!?
REd Heart Super Saver O'Go - Forest.
@@TheCrochetCrowd Sir Mikey, thanks so very much for the information!!!! I appreciate and admire you so freaking much. You are truly amazing and awesome!!!!
Mikey, do you really use a K hook for this? I haven't worked with anything bigger than an H, but I'm sure I can do it. I'll be running out of yarn is my only problem. Not to worry, I have a Hobby Lobby store about 15 minutes away. Their yarn is so much softer than Red Heart, so I don't use it for any projects that will be touching skin. l
Yes, I matched it to the HDC in Horizontal Bar. If you want to change the hook you can. Just keep your cowl in even counts like 60, 62, 64 and ect.
