"Let's get started right here by this unsightly memorial." Ouch! 🤣🤣 Priceless! Hi Timothy! Pickens, NC's town center is very nice and large. From first glance, you would not think the town center is as large as it is. This is a nice walk and talk video of Pickens! Til the next time..... GOD bless!
Well yeah, l'm quite fascinated by your channel where you visit small towns more especially in Mississippi and South Carolina. Have been influenced by watching your channel l have started to the same our small dying towns in South Africa 🎉
Thanks for visiting our town! lots of history right here. Yeah, the fountain situation, im not sure. The church does own that lot. Bivens is an awesome hardware store. They have it all. When you cant find it at lowes or home depot, bivens probably has it. The Porkette restaurant used to be up the street one street off main. When you went through there it was right after they moved to that building. Their BBQ has always been excellent for decades. We appreciate you checking out the town.
That’s not too bad of a downtown but I agree about the fountain. I mentioned your channel in the Celebrating Appalachia channel and Tipper said she would check you out.
@@TimothyFrench I really enjoy you and your channel. Seem like a really good guy. I'm looking to buy, and I've explored the Greenville area but not as far out as Pickens, so I will be there soon. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
@broskibear9666 Pickens Is a very friendly town, not far from table rock state park. They have a mill at the end of town that has been repurposed for a shopping center. Lists of local hand made things sold there. Also near a town called Pumpkin Town. The BlueRidge power company is in the other end of Main Street and they have a tree that they put actual house light bulbs on at Christmas time and have been doing it for over 60 years. Also Pickens is not far from Keowee lake and the nuclear energy plant
my great great or great great great grandparents once owned most of pickens county.. a lot of my ancestors are buried at Bethlehem church. some were in the civil war. I think the court house land was given by my great grandpa.
Now it makes sense. 😀 They should put up better signage for the turtles so visitors like me don’t overlook them. We have pigs around my hometown of Lexington. Thanks for the info. 👍
The town has the money to fix it, they budgeted it and all. They found out right before starting work that the town does not actually own the fountain. The church across the street does. So now it is an awkward situation where the town cannot pay to repair and restore church property, while the church does not want to. I am not clear on how the church ended up owning it. Someone told me the church bought the parking lot and just no one noticed the fountain was included.
@@nosferatu7502 An interesting situation. You would think the church members would want to restore a memorial that they aguired or sell that part back to the towm. Thanks for filling us in.
I believe the main problem with the "fountain" arises from location. It being right next to McDonalds and just right up the road from what use to be the High School now the Middle school (that parking lot is probably the number one teen hang out/meeting place in Pickens) made the fountain more of a problem than it's worth. The students walk up after school and hang around it throwing trash in it and putting dish detergent in it to the point it can't be kept looking nice. Bad planning on the location and not that great of a looking fountain to begin with. I think a more conventional looking fountain with an older classical design, located in front of the Court House would have kept down A Lot of the issues with it and would have looked really nice.

It’s a good size for sure. And I found out the sea turtle is one of many different types of turtles place all around the town center area.

That’s awesome. Looking forward to seeing your towns 👍
I really enjoyed the tour. Thanks Timothy.
Thank you👍
My Hometown
I’ve always live here and still do
You have great hometown 👍
Fountain usually freezes during winter...probably why it has nothing in it. Suprise it does drop on occasion below 32.
Thanks 👍

And thank you for sharing your local knowledge. I like the hardware stores. The service is much better there vs the big box stores.

Would love to know why the memorial is empty.
At first I thought they might be preparing it for the winter. But it looked like it has been out of service for a while.

Is Lake Lure still your favorite town ?
Yes. I love the area around Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.
It freezes to much is why they took it down
Thanks for letting us know 👍

Lucky Pickens hasn’t been invaded by people from India,New York, and New Jersey Like Fort Mill and Charolette has.
Watch out, I’m from NJ and my family has our eye on Pickens 👀
