Islands move, this has been taking place since the beginning of time. The wind blows the sand and over many many years it literally moves the island. This is why they had to relocate the lighthouse on the island of Cape Hatteras or it would still be in the ocean. This is not climate change.
This was one of the most beautiful and poignant videos that I have seen to date. The beautiful scenery and like music married perfectly into an absolutely phenomenal video. I couldn’t stop watching. Your photographic style is just perfect. Thank you for your time and effort for making my Sunday afternoon have meaning.
It's only been in the last few years that WHOMEVER cleared the overgrowth on Castle Pinckney. Until then, by viewing it from, or, a observation point , it looked like A BIG GREEN MOUND. I have pictures of when it was used as a Union POW camp after First Bull Run(Manassas). Always amazed me what used to be under that mound.😮😮😮😮
This video is perfect! I love all of the drone footage and I appreciate the short, but informative descriptions of each site. I too remember walking through Sheldon Church before the fence was placed. I was thinking a lot of these places would be nice for a wedding. Thanks again for this video.
Hauntingly beautiful. My favorite place is Saint Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Ruins. I visited there about 4 years ago. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for this hidden gem.
Poinsett bridge is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett of Charleston SC who was first Minister to Mexico, Chile and Argentina and who had dealings in Peru. The Christmas Poinsettia is named after him which he brought back from Mexico.
I remember visiting that concrete structure in the early eighties, almost 40 years ago. I don't remember any graffiti, only the places where the big guns used to be. There were no gates around the large holes as seen in your video. We had no idea what it was. Now I finally know. A coastel defense called Ft. Fremont. Never stop learning! ✌️
I'm really surprised there was no graffiti back then. It was even more overgrown back then. The gates around the gun mounts are a new thing. Hopefully you got the chance to go inside.
Forty years is a long time, but I do remember it being extremely overgrown. We didn't go far inside but don't remember any graffiti. Perhaps it was there but not like what I saw in your video. Way before google, so we didn't know what it was. But I do remember seeing copper pipes up in the wall.
Thank you for sharing ; the cinematography is quite stunning. I’ve visited most of these places but you’ve revealed some real gems that I’ll have to visit. The Beaufort Pickle Factory has piqued my interest - is it being restored?
Thanks. I think it's pretty unlikely that the pickle factory will be restored. I heard that the fire department had used it for fire practice, so the structure is unsound for rebuilding.
SC is more Southern in some ways than my home NC. Your video was very melancholy and the pacing was great and there was just enough information. Made me sad in a good way. Do more.
Great video and info on the places. This is what I miss about living in the south. I grew up in GA with this all around me and lived in FL years later. Was still around. Don't find any beauty like this in the southeastern parts of the Desert Souhwest..
There is such a long history down here. It's more a matter of what do you see rather than what is there to see. Glad you enjoyed the vide. Subscribed to your channel too.
@@wollwerthimagery6267 Thank you for the sub. Yes, as a kid in the 70's I have noting but great memories of running thru the woods and just stumbling on old abandoned mansions and buildings in the rural parts of Atlanta proper. Was so cool to see history just sitting there decaying sadly. But lots of history there and I hope they were able to preserve some of it over the years.
@@wollwerthimagery6267 I lived here most of my life and never knew about these places, they don't talk about these hidden gems except for that battery down by the ocean, the only other natural stuff that is frequently visited is the Huntington beach Palace up at Huntington beach across from Brooke green gardens maybe its that i live further North up at Myrtle beach.
Yes. There is so much history around. Some of these are fairly well known, but others I just stumbled across in my travels and had to look up what they were later.
This video is too fantastic not to see the graphics. Could someone do a quick edit and put a light background behind them. The videography is OUTSTANDING. CONGRATS.
Hey, Court. This is definitely something that's been brought up. Unfortunately it can't be reedited once it's in RUclips without starting over. I've definitely started doing the background in subsequent videos though. Thanks for the comments.
Until about 5 years ago, the Old Sheldon Church was totally open without the fence around it. Unfortunately, some young person thought it would be funny to chip away some of the bricks. Hence, the fence. I have actually attended weddings on the grounds prior to the fence. Don't know if they will allow that anymore or not.
What a great video, I am into photography both with DSLR and Drone and will be moving to the Low Country next year. These locations certainly provide inspiration for future photo shoots.
@@wollwerthimagery6267 could you recommend any locations that are accessible for night photography in the Beaufort Hilton Head area ? Coming from NY where the State Parks issued Nighttime Photography permits, we can access a number of ocean beaches around the clock. Not sure if there is anything like that in the low country.
@@andrewcraig3369 The darkest place is Hunting Island state park. Not sure what their hours are this time of year, but if they're open, you can shoot night photography. Otherwise you can reserve a camping spot out there and you have access to the beach all night. You should have come a couple weeks ago before the time change. There are also spots along the side of the road where you can get good night photography as well, even if you can't get into the park proper.
@@wollwerthimagery6267 thank you! I saw your video on night photography and the boneyard looks like an amazing place for some astro and long exposure photography.
we used to call Poinsett bridge camp old Indian and we used to climb all over that bridge and spend a lot of Friday and Saturday nights just hanging out
it was also known as southern industries but its not accessible at all. i’ve heard the cops are prone to arresting people if they see you on this one 😓
The various plans for this Morris Island Light wii, DEFINITELY, make you shake your head. One plan was to make the surrounding area into a subdivision. Another was to make the light a tourist attraction. From what I've been told, the current in that is VERY DANGEROUS!! A tour boat would catch hell trying to dock, and stay anchored at that dock. Another plan was to restore the light. A late reporter that I knew from the Post and Courier told me that the interior had rotted away, and, was now, an outdoor privy for birds and bats.😮😮😮😮
There are literally hundreds of abandoned places I didn't cover in this video. It just leaves a lot of room for future videos. I'll consider covering that one later though.
Oh! Let’s make this almost impossible to read by making the captions dark where the background is dark, and light where the background is light! Oooo, and make the captions thin too! Just put in a voice over!🫏
It's amazing how many of these places are being lost to the ocean.

Your correct, islands and the coast has to be dredged every so many years, they have been doing this for a long long time

Poinsett bridge is such a peaceful place to stop.
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

I love the splendid old trees surrounding these ruins. I would like to see them in the light of a full moon.
It is entirely possible.
Outstanding Video

Great video John, very informative.

So glad you liked the video. Actually glad I put this together when I did. Two of the sites are now gone.
Love the cinematography! You've got mad skills with the drone too. Well done!
Thanks Jason. Very kind of you. Getting better with more practice.
Hauntingly beautiful. My favorite place is Saint Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Ruins. I visited there about 4 years ago. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for this hidden gem.
Chapel of Ease is such a special place, and fortunately still pretty unspoiled with no fence around it like Old Sheldon Church.
Great video and footage of some really cool places in SC
Thanks Naomi. Glad you enjoyed it.
Cool video's, it gives me some new places to explore...Thanks!
No problem. There’s a lot more out there to explore. These are just the ones I’ve had time to film.
Nice!
A million thunbs up!!! I'm currently on an RV road trip and in the Greenville area right now. Hope I can find some of these as I travel!!!
A million! Wow, that's a lot. I only touched the surface of the abandoned places out there. Take the back roads and you'll find them.

We are the southern Wild West
Why wouldn't it be as it's further south and was flourishing during the colonial era when NC was barely populated.
I was raised in Cleveland, a few miles from the bridge which rests on calahan mtn.

The old Folly Beach Pavillion is now way out at sea with rows and rows of streets of houses in front of it long long gone.
Wish I could have seen that. It's the disadvantage of building on a barrier island.
Is this a different version of the song colors?
It's original music from a guy in the country of Georgia. Goes by Kai Engel.

Good video. In editing dark font should not be used on dark background. Much of the text cannot be read.

It’s a shame that some people deface these beautiful ruins with graffiti. I just don’t understand it. 😢
Poinsett Bridge looks like straight out of Lord of the Rings.
Poinsett bridge was a bit of a surprise for me. I was just doing an internet search while in the area and found it.
I live about 6 miles away from there,it truly is beautiful.
It’s like a feeling of wanting to go back to a world you never knew. I don’t know if that makes sense 😅.
It makes a lot of sense.
Should take a look at the Babcock Asylum in Columbia SC
Poinsett bridge is not the oldest bridge. It's the oldest still standing.
Well a non-standing bridge is not a bridge at all.
Nice photography. I can’t read what is on the screen. The letters are too dark and too fast. Never the less thanks for sharing.
