    That place in Hampton was an old Westinghouse Micarta division plant. It was the biggest employer in the county for decades until it closed down in the mid 90’s.

      Thanks for the clarification. I got all kinds of information on what the plant was, and I'm pretty sure most of it was incorrect.

      @@wollwerthimagery6267 You’re welcome ☺️ That plant actually had a pension plan for its employees (a damn good one, too) and I know several people personally who still get their retirement income from there.

      @lynnhoffman247 and @wollwerthimagery6267
      Lynn, you are correct that the water tower is located at the abandoned plant that used to be the Westinghouse plant from 1952 until 1995, but it did not close down in 1995. It was sold and became International Paper until it was sold again in 2002. It then became Nevamar until 2014 when Nevamar moved operations to Main or Massachusetts. I know because I am from and live in Hampton County and my mother and most of the people in Hampton worked at that plant. I, as many, were sad to see it go and miss hearing that whistle blow every hour on the hour. You could hear it for miles away.

    I used to live in Varnville town .Hampton and Varnville are right up against each other. I have been up and down Pocatello road alot and Cummins town. They film alot of Forrest Gump movie around that area right down the road too. A lot of historical places there .Sherman march from the sea trail is on part of Pocatello road. Also, like video you have old Westinghouse plant. Almost went to work there in 1991

    Do you ever find out why these places have been abandoned? Eg: last in family line died; some kind of illness/infection killed off last remaining residents; murders; war/conflict activity cleared out residents; place of employment closed down; incumbent died without heirs. Economy no good and resident(s) gone to find better employment/ dwellings..if there had been more than one of those circular installations at the end, it may have helped towards inowing what it was used for. Was there something below ground, underneath it. I did think of leather tanning but picturing the size of a cow, i can't see that it would be fit for that purpose. Anyway, while you were driving here and there, i didn't so much as see the slightest moo of a cow.
    You must have been quite near Alex Murdaugh's place, as you mentioned that you were in Collaton County ;😊😊
